Evermore: An MM Romance

Rate this book
River Hayes had spent years alone with the ocean, tracking the fragile recovery of a coastal ecosystem—and avoiding the kind of loss that once shattered his world. But everything changed the morning he found a letter sealed in wax, bobbing in the surf. It was addressed to him. Signed by a man named Finn. And filled with memories of a love River couldn’t remember living.

Finn Torres didn’t know why he kept waking up with ink-stained fingers and finished projects he couldn’t recall completing. Or why dreams of saltwater and green eyes haunted him with the weight of something lost. But when River walked into his bookshop carrying a letter Finn had no memory of writing, something inside him recognized the truth—even if his mind couldn’t explain it.

As strange messages, missing memories, and impossible familiarity pull them together, River and Finn must navigate the blurred lines between science and mystery, grief and healing, past and possibility.

Creative concept, solid writing, but the slow, drawn-out execution, lacking in relationship development and tension, left me bored and exasperated.

The story asks us to believe that River and Finn, through a phenomena not yet explained, have known each other for ages, but their connection on page never comes alive. It's a dull, lifeless, static thing - no passion, a few kisses, one short intimate scene.

Almost immediately, it's obvious that this book deals with . I've always been fascinated by the idea of time being fluid and dynamic rather than fixed and linear. Unfortunately, in Evermore, that premise is bogged down by repetitive musings and conversations.

The plot crawls by like a lazy tortoise on a scorching summer day. There are no highs or lows, no real emotions.

I stopped caring around 60% but skimmed through to the end. The story became even more confusing and disorientating as it progressed, like it was trying hard to be something but failing spectacularly.

I'm cancelling this author for evermore.

Finn and River find themselves in an unusual love story

Duel POV in the third person.

I'm trying to consult my notes here, but they're as hard to put together as this book was to read.
At first I thought maybe *I* was being brought through the "temporal stream" and the author was having us confusingly see different versions of Finn and River living slightly alternate lives.
They had very similar conversations over and over.
Between chapter 12 and 13, I thought they were giving up the research then suddenly they were in the middle of it again.
The timeline felt off which is why I thought it was on purpose, but I dont think it was.

Maya is a terrible person. She immediately attacks River. And she keeps saying "SHE" can't watch it happen again, like Finn's not hte one living it. Like, girl, what does hse want him to do?
AND she suggests Dr Voss then claims she's no good... what?

They lead up to Dr Voss constantly acting like a villain and she kinda has her villain moment, but then they let her back in like nothing happened. She would have been removed from the room and my life so swiftly SHE would have been traveling through time !

And then the "reveal" of all this.....
1) 17 is an oddly specific number. how does one LOOK 17 years old and not 20....
2)How did he even make any of that happen.

The explanation as to why River knows all these things about Finn when he's not the one traveling through time isn't really clear.

The overall message is to love your people for who they are regardless of their disease, disorder, mental health ect. You don't always have to fix them, just love them. I get it. But to get there was so confusing, all over the place and repetitive it was a tough read.

I've read worse so 2 stars.

thanks for giving me the opportunity to arc read this novel

I wish I had eloquent words to describe how much I loved this book but I do not. So I can only say it was almost perfection wrapped in a stunning bow. I thought I knew what to expect and how this would all play out and it was not what I expected.

Ken shattered my entire heart several times but then put it back together piece by piece. Love can be all-consuming, and when you love someone so deeply, you can lose sight of them as a literal being and only see the parts of them that make them whole. Love can conquer all but sometimes it makes the relationship a conquest and not small battles to be won.

River and Finn are strangers living in a beautiful seaside town. River is a marine biologist who is a research master because it's all he truly allows himself to do. Water caused a tragedy in his life but the water is also his safe haven. Finn owns a bookstore where he also does restorations of books, whether they be novels or personal journals. But their paths were caused by a note that River finds addressed to him by a man named Finn who loves him. Finn is utterly confused as the writing is definitely his, but he knows he does not know Rive, nor does he love him. When River assesses Finn as non-threatening, they begin to spend time together and find that they have real chemistry and this quickly blossoming affection that is quite confusing. Finn is still a bit lost after his own close loss, but River feels like a home he's never known, one where he is the most comfortable. When they start to get an answer to the connection it sets off alarms and becomes something that should be clinical. It will take truths, hardships, understanding, and unexpected tests to allow these men to live the life they've always dreamed of with a man their heart has claimed while the mind and the world catch up.

This story provides twists and turns and characters who love fiercely both our MMCs and their family/friends. This even gets a little paranormal, I would say, but honestly, it just feels like its own category. At times, I felt emotionally overrun, but the payoff is so wonderful and worth the struggle to get there. Love is certainly not linear, and if it is for you, then you are actually doing it wrong. Love is so beautifully portrayed in this story and shows why the hard stuff is necessary to live fully and completely in love.

I just finished my ARC for Evermore by Ken Sanchez, and let me tell you, this book was such an experience! I became invested in the characters and plot immediately within the opening pages. There is so much intrigue, heart, and emotion woven into this story. I was invested the entire way through. And my desperation to find out what was going to happen only grew the further I got. By the last 50 or so pages, I was reading at the speed of light, anxious to learn whatever resolution the author had in store for me.

The best way to describe this book, without spoiling anything, is it has strong Interstellar vibes, but with a MM romance. Saying anything more to elaborate on that would only spoil the experience. Just trust me when I say this. You want to read Evermore!

Some of my favorite quotes to further entice you to give this book a try:

“I’d rather risk everything for love than accept safety without it.”

“Even if love couldn’t cure neurological conditions, it could provide the stability and comfort that made difficult circumstances bearable. And sometimes that was enough.”

“Whatever happens in there, whatever this does to my brain, I need you to know that loving you has been the most real thing in life.”

“Only River’s voice kept him tethered to any version of reality, calling him back from the temporal storm with love and terror and absolute refusal to let him disappear.”

Thank you to Ken Sanchez for giving me an opportunity to ARC read your newest book. I absolutely loved it!

“The thing is,” Finn said, finally voicing the fear that had been eating at him for months, “I think I might be developing the same condition. The memory gaps, the lost time, finding evidence of things I don't remember doing. What if it's genetic? What if I'm going to end up like her?”
“Then we'll figure it out together,” River said, his voice firm with conviction that took Finn's breath away. “Whatever's happening, you don't have to face it alone.”

I loved this book. I was intrigued by the unique plot and had to read it. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both River and Finn. They had a connection, but there was mystery and suspense. I got really invested in the two of them and hooked to the story. 5 stars.

When marine biologist River found a message in a bottle, that seemed to know everything about him, and when he found the man named Finn who wrote it, he had no idea he did. He suffers a neurological episode and so, their relationship begins. This book is an emotional roller coaster that really reaches deep. As someone who has neurological issues, and other medical issues I know the pain of dealing with health issues that have been dismissed. This book resonated with me on so many levels; my review would be to long. At the same time, I think that this book has a lot of universal things people deal with, like Finn and Rivers relationship hardships and good time. It also is engrossing, entertaining and all-over well-written book.

A unique romance story that keeps you guessing what will happen throughout 🖤

This book gives "Interstellar" vibes but with MM romance!!

Love is not lineal. It is not something that's easy to describe.

Love is beautiful chaos. It both holds you tight and challenges you to do better - be better.

In this book we go on a journey with River and Finn. How they find each other from a bottle washed up on the shore with an eerily accurate letter inside. And how love can cause us so much fear if we get blindsided by our own desires, if we don't just appreciate it enough for what it is.

It's paranormal, yet realistic. This book is pure magic in every sense of the word.

Fav Quote:

"Because sometimes love didn't follow reasonable patterns or conventional timelines. Sometimes, it arrived in the middle of impossible circumstances and demanded that you choose between safety and connection, between protecting yourself and opening your heart to someone whose presence made everything else bearable."

A marine biologist and a bookstore owner. This story was really interesting in a way that I was not expecting. It made me think and stayed with me even after I was done. It was layered and I will read it again.

Amazing story of River Hayes, marine biologist and Finn Torres, a bookshop owner who's with disturbing dreams(?). The complexity of this book is amazing to read, yet the love story is as simple as two people who are perfect for each other. Couldn't put it down.

This was a mind trip of the ages.

The characters take a step out of reality and take you on a sometimes sad, disturbing and even loving trip.

You have to try it.
