Nick Caine #5

Secret of the Loch

Rate this book
After briefly eluding Yassir Ali’s ruthless assassins in England, Nick, Marie, and Ishi have fled north, where they hope to track down a forgotten cavern in the Highlands of Scotland. The cavern is linked to the Ambrosius Amulet, and is said to contain the greatest treasure of gold, jewels, and other artifacts ever amassed by the ancient druids….

Finding this sacred place won’t be easy—especially when those trying to kill the forlorn trio are hot on the trail again. Meanwhile, Nick and his cohorts’ search is limited to details from a conversation Marie had with her father prior to his murder a year earlier. Complicating matters is that the Ambrosius Amulet can only tell them when they have found the right location—not how.

Relying on Marie’s memory of landmarks and coordinates given by her father, the task of searching Loch Ness, Loch Lomond, and Loch Morar quickly becomes a hazardous affair. Will one of these famed locations prove to be home to this fabled treasure of the early Brits? Or, will this be one myth that can’t be solved, either by fate or bullets from a ruthless enemy closing in?

These questions, and more, are waiting to be answered in the Secret of the Loch….

Acclaim for the novels of Aiden James:

"The intense writing style of Aiden James kept my eyes glued to the story and the pages seemed to fly by at warp speed. ...Twists, turns, and surprises pop up at random times to keep the reader off balance. It all blends together to create one of the best stories I have read all year."
--Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Devil's Paradise"

"Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one."
--Bookfinds review for "The Forgotten Eden"

"Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that "Cades Cove" snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit's interaction became prevalent with the family... The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae's (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we've seen before in horror and ghost tales."
--Evelyn Klebert, author of "A Ghost of a Chance" and "Dragonflies"

"Aiden James has a keen eye for detail and an uncanny knack for scaring the hell out of me. We are watching a master at work. "The Raven Mocker" is a nearly perfect thriller. Ghost stories don't get any better than this."
--J.R. Rain, Bestselling author of the "Vampire for Hire" series

"As with the previous titles I have read by this author, I found the author's writing style to be silky smooth and the main plot line to be extremely creative. The fertile imagination of Aiden James definitely knows what today's readers want to see in their stories."
--Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Vampires' Last Lover"

How about a Wednesday Morning before I workout review? Its a god one!
Secret of the Loch (Nick Caine Book 5) by Aiden James Author
Synopsis: After briefly eluding Yassir Ali’s ruthless assassins in England, Nick, Marie, and Ishi have fled north, where they hope to track down a forgotten cavern in the Highlands of Scotland.

His last wish was for her to complete the task he couldn’t, and was the main reason Marie hired Nick as her archeologist guide: to first find the Temple of the Jaguar in the Honduran jungles, and then eventually move on to the United Kingdom to complete Daddy’s failed quest.

Now, after being chased relentlessly through Europe by Yassir Ali’s hit men, they finally possess the key to finding the druid treasure. Yet, the Ambrosius Amulet can only tell them when they have found the right location. The task of locating the correct ‘marked’ Scottish hillside must be handled on their own, using natural means.

My Review: I have come to see Nick, his Love Maria and Ishi his dear friend and cohort in Treasure Hunting , well maybe a little treasure robbing too but its all good as REAL people , people I want to hang out and have a drink with and hear their stories told! In this installment of the series Nick, Maria and Ishi are looking for Maria's Father's discovery of "The Treasure of all Treasures" collected by the Ancient Druids In a Long forgotten cave in Scotland and leading them is the Ambrosius Amulet , a magical Amulet They discovered in another of their adventures ! HOWEVER Treasure Hunting is never easy in itself let alone when you have Yassir Ali’s evil, EVIL assassins trying to cut you down at every move! And Poor Ishi, all he wants to do is see his family for Christmas! Will they find the treasure? Will they all survive? and what else lies in this cave? Aiden James weaves a tale that is a treasure itself! The imagery and Magical powers he reveals in these books ? how can you NOT believe? I highly recommend this Entire Series! If you loves Adventure with some laughter, some tears and a LOT of Magic.. This is for you! I give this Book 5 Ambrosius Amulets! Think of the magic we could find with 5 of them ! Well done Aiden James.. Well done!!

The story of Nick, Ishi, and Marie instantly drew me in. This was my first Aiden James novel and my first Nick Caine novel, but I was very easily able to pick up the overall themes of the previous Nick Caine novels. A fast paced audio book I was instantly engaged with their trip though England and Scotland in search of Marie's father's treasure.

It may have been my first novel by James, but won't be the last.

'I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review'

Just when Nick and Ishi think that they can finally leave and go to America Marie springs another one on them. Now that they have the Ambrosius Amulet she wants to find the forgotten Cavern in Scotland. Their enemies are still after them and if the three of them stay in Europe they are going to succeed in killing them. But now Marie says she has to find this for her father before she "takes the amulet to the museum." According to Marie they have to visit three Loch's and the amulet will show them the way at one of them.

But things are not going to be easy for them when they do find the right Loch because the Loch holds many secrets. Secrets that can be the best and worst things to ever happen to Nick.

My Opinion:

This is another 5 star read to me. The Nick Caine Series is one of my favorites and I have never been disappointed. There is danger as Nick and Crew are still being chased by Yassir's men and now they have another group of people chasing after them too. The Loch holds dangerous secrets. Aiden James always takes you on a thrilling adventure with each new Nick Caine Adventure. My only issue is with Marie. I started to really dislike her in book 4 and my dislike for this character has just grown with this book. In my Opinion she treats Nick like crap and it disappoints me that Nick who could do better takes it. It is definitely just a case of dislike of a character in my case and is nothing negative about the book in general. I would definitely recommend reading however you do need to read the first 4 books first!

Oh my goodness! Aiden has done it again with this well written adventure. As usual, his unique style and riveting plot makes this one, if not the best, one of the best of the series. The book picks up momentum from the start and engages the reader until you just can't put it down. It is one of those books that throughout there is drama, humor and a touch of romance along with action packed adventure. However, at one point, the reader is saying "Really???? Surely not!" This is a fast-paced book and I recommend giving yourself an afternoon with nothing else to do because once you start you won't want to put it down. Aiden has left the story wide open at the end for more adventurous tales of Nick or even another series. I highly recommend this book!.

I just finished the audio version of this book, and what an excellent adventure it was! Nick Caine, Ishi and Marie are back and finding trouble wherever they go. This was quite a task that they set for themselves this time and it was fun to go along for the ride. Yasser Ali's evil assassins are still on their trail, which hampers their ability to search for a specific cave in the Highlands of Scotland.
The audiobook was narrated by Graydon Schlichter, and he did a masterful job. The irreverence of Nick Caine really shines through with his narration, and the voices are easy to distinguish throughout the story. I am already looking forward to the audio version of the next book in the series!

Nick, Ishi and Marie are back, and back with a bang, thinking they have outrun their Egyptian enemies they head to Scotland in search of the Druid hoard, then the action really starts. A great read very entertains and a nice twist at the end.

While Nick is still an excellent read, this is definitely the Aiden James version of paranormal fiction. I am interested to see where he goes from here and might read one of his other books but I missed the influence of JRRain. I haven't read a Rain book yet that I didn't enjoy thoroughly.
