Breaking Curses

Rate this book
When one curse follows another, breaking them becomes a whole lot more complicated.

Helena is lost. Cursed into the form of a duck, she's been ripped away from everything she knows, and has no idea who's responsible or why this has happened. After months surviving on a hillside, she's starting to lose hope that she'll ever be human again.

The last thing Helena expects is for Nick to show up in the middle of nowhere and find her. This could be her chance to get back home and break the curse. But Nick has a secret – he's cursed too, and he won't survive if they can't find a solution in time.

The bad news is that breaking these curses may unleash a greater evil than they've ever known. Helena must choose between saving Nick's life and keeping this evil at bay. Can she find a third option before time runs out?

I live in Ireland with a husband and three insane cats, teach English, and enjoy cocktails, Pagan gatherings, superhero comics, shopping, and penpalling. Not necessarily all at the same time.

Swords and sorcery is where I like to live, but I hope to do more actual writing than staring at a blank screen and daydreaming. Watch this space!

If you're joining me for the ride, welcome, and I hope you enjoy it.

I really enjoyed this! I usually read epic fantasy which are obviously large tomes so it’s nice to have an Irish centred story to get lost in between them. Carla did a fantastic job of dunking us right into the story and characters from the outset. Helena was likeable and a relatable young witch who finds herself cursed, told by her teacher Daragh that her magic wasn’t strong she now finds herself lost in duck form with no magic.
Perhaps it’s the Irishness but I was reminded slightly of the story of the Children of Lir, this book has some witty moments but also some tension and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done Carla, you should be very proud.
