Even as the Shinobi Alliance’s resolve begins to falter in the face of Obito’s overwhelming power, Naruto refuses to give in. But how can he turn the tables with the odds so stacked against him? Can Naruto and Sasuke work together long enough to lead the ninja world to victory?!
Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.
Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.
Talk-no-Jutsu at its finest. Many poke fun, but I have a soft spot for Naruto being able to talk literally anyone out of doing literally anything. But I can totally understand the grievances. Naruto should be focused on killing Obito, not becoming his therapist.
The War arc has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, this volume being no exception, but it could've been a really good finale if the series ended up right here and now, with the sealing of Madara. Guy could have had his Eight Gates moment right after Hashirama had failed to stop him. It could have been such a great moment to have the entire Allied Shinobi Forces work together one final time and finally end this war.
But Kishimoto or his editors or both had to fuck it up and keep dragging it on and on because they still wanted to give Madara his final boss moment. It doesn't even make sense how tf he can use the abilities of the Rinnegan if he doesn't have the damn eyes. A great volume ruined by its last two chapters.
This volume finally brings to an end (sort of) the ultimate battle with Tobi with a lot of dialogue exchanges allowing these characters to reflect on their dreams and the reason why they act as they do. My favourite moment is the flashback scene implicating Rin and how well it was captured. Probably the best "romantic" moment in the series so far. The battle in itself isn't as impressive as it could've been, relying too much on a super-mega-ultra tug-of-war that bordered silliness...
We finally have the final battle between Obito and the co, he is overpowering them but when it seems like all is lost, Naruto stands by his convictions and attacks him thereby gaining an even upper hand and when they are all able to connect, he is able to pull the Bijuu's out and communicate to Obito and reminds him of his former self, not to give up, reminds him of the promises he made to rin and dreams of becoming hokage and sorta redeeming him and finally able to rescue and defeat him but the threat of MADARA persists and he is back in full power, the final shinobi war starts now! This volume was good presenting an insight into Obito and kinda redeeming him in a good way and shows why Naruto is just the best!! The art here was impeccable and we enter the last portions, next up: THE THREAT OF UCHIHA MADARA!

Surprisingly emotional! And as the war starts to reach its final conclusion/end battles, I gotta say — I’m a little exhausted! This war has been going on for ages and although it’s *very* good, there have been multiple point where it seems like “oh we’re almost done” and then boom it’s 3 volumes later and we’re still in it.
Good stuff, felt like the series was easing into its finale but then slams on the gas to launch into another climax, which I know isn’t the true climax bc I’m pretty sure in the remaining 4 volumes they’re supposed to fight [SPOILERS] or whatever.
Anyway, where has tenten been? I remember when she first popped up at the chunin exams and her power of being able to summon weapons from her big scroll was so cool. Where is she?? Will tenten have a moment to shine in these next 4 volumes??
Naruto managed to unite the army again and raised their hopes which ultimately resulted in the extraction of Tailed Beasts from Obito. Then, Madara revived himself by forcing exhausted Obito to use 'Rinne Rebirth.' Looks like the Shinobi Force isn't out of the woods yet.

The shit has just hit the fan!! Obito has been defeated but Madara has regained his body and most of his strength!!! The Fourth Great Ninja War has just met it's toughest foe yet!! Also I have finally made it to where I am at in the anime in the English dubbed version (jumps up and down)!!!!

Once upon a time, the spirit of an evil Nine Tailed Fox wreaked havoc on Konohagakure; the Village Hidden in the Leaves, killing hundreds of honorable ninja in the skirmish and leaving many children without homes or parents. The Fourth Hokage (leader of the village) unleashes a forbidden jutsu (magic spell/ninja ability) to seal the spirit of the evil fox into the body of a newborn baby named Naruto at the cost of his own life. He did this in the hopes that the boy could one day learn to master the power of the demonic spirit and use it to protect the village and become a great hero of the people.
Unknown to the citizens of the Leaf, the Nine Tailed Fox was being controlled by an even more powerful adversary, a legendary rogue ninja that plans to wage war against the entire world from the shadows. The identity of the mysterious ninja that attacked the Leaf Village using the Nine Tails died with the Fourth Hokage, and he used what remained of his life to gift Naruto with the power of one day being able to stop this evil ninja and a clan of outlawed S-rank criminals called the Akatsuki from committing mass genocide against the many hidden villages and clans of the world.
Because of the evil spirit sealed inside him, Naruto grew up hated by the other children of the village because they believe him and the Nine Tails to be one and the same. They believe he’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, waiting for the perfect moment to kill them all just like the Nine Tails killed their parents and families. Shunned, dehumanized and treated like dirt, Naruto vows to become the greatest hokage the world has ever seen so that he can receive the love and acknowledgement he never got as a child.
On top of the Nine Tails power and the will to never quit, Naruto also possesses the uncanny ability to turn everyone he meets into a potential comrade. He brings out the best in his peers and tries his hardest to make his enemies see the errors of their ways. He disobeys the rules and ignores cultural traditions to try and make changes to the world and break the eternal cycle of war and hatred through his own methods. His determination is infectious to friend and foe alike. He earns himself the respect he deserves by overcoming one impossible obstacle at a time.
Naruto encounters many fascinating and terrifying ninja over the course of his journey to become hokage. Among them are Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s best friend and rival who is driven by the vengeful lust to murder his elder brother after he wiped out their own clan in cold blood. Sasuke warms up to Naruto, but his hatred and trauma are dangerous forces that threaten to break his moral code as a ninja and destroy his reputation among his peers.
Kakashi Hatake is a notorious copycat ninja that survived one of the most brutal and devastating wars in history as well as the Nine Tails attack on the Leaf Village. He becomes Naruto and Sasuke’s mentor and teaches them a great number of valuable lessons about surviving in the dangerous world of rogue ninja, bloodthirsty assassins and clans ruled by corruption.
Jiraiya is a perverted yet wise sage who taught the Fourth Hokage everything he knew and he’s regarded as a god among shinobi that’s famous for his heroic actions in the second great ninja war. He takes an interest in Naruto and raises him as a father figure to carry on the legacy of the Fourth Hokage to prepare him for the many dangerous people that want to use his power for their own nefarious purposes.
The Akatsuki is one such group of wicked ninja. Among them are Sasuke’s brother Itachi who murdered his clan and possesses many dangerous techniques involving illusions, psychological torture and elemental manipulation. Sasori who controls poisonous puppets with magical threads, Orochimaru who mastered the forbidden arts of reanimation and quasi-immortality, Deidara who fights from afar using detonating clay and many other deadly foes.
The entire series chronicles Naruto and his fellow ninja comrades growing through countless trials and tragedies. There are hundreds of unique jutsus, clans, and techniques which lead to some very intense, creative and strategic battles between skilled ninja with diverse abilities that don’t always match up evenly. There are clan based abilities such as the Aburame clan’s ability to control insects, the Yamanaka clan’s ability to jump into other people’s minds and control their bodies and the Inuzuka clan’s ability to bond with wolves that learn to mimic their master’s battle skills. Then there’s ocular genetic abilities such as the sharingan which allows the user to create psychological illusions, copy their enemy’s abilities and manipulate elemental energy. The byakugan allows the user to read their enemies vital points and detect their spiritual energy from faraway. The rinnegan grants control over space and gravity and so on.
On top of having countless unique abilities, nearly every character has a tragic backstory that makes them sympathetic and relatable, even the nastiest of the villains have well-explored reasons for following the paths they do and becoming the way they are. One of my favorite aspects of the series is how well it explores the physical, emotional and psychological effects war can have on society and culture as well as the survivors and future generations that are forced to live in them. How it breeds racism and cultural disputes, how it inspires hatred in orphaned children and war veterans robbed of their homes toward foreign nations, as well as how this eventually leads to further death, war, poverty and destruction. Learning to forgive the ones you hate to prevent further conflict and damaging the world for future generations even further is a major theme throughout the story.
Being a massive 700 chapter series, it’s not too surprising that there’s some plot holes and consistency issues. A rule might be stated regarding the requirements and usage of a certain jutsu or ability only for that rule to be repeatedly broken 400 chapters later. Sometimes the characters and rules contradict themselves, sometimes the chronology of certain events and historical facts don’t match up perfectly, the lore and general backstory go through several retcons that change the philosophy and power scaling of the characters and the scope of world-building; the final arc especially drags on and breaks a lot of the logic and rules that the story spent the whole series setting up, etc...
Naruto’s far from perfect, but I remember it very fondly for being one of the first series that introduced me to things like manga and Japanese entertainment in general. It was one of those childhood classics like Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin. The series grew up with me and I can’t help but feel grateful to it for introducing me to hundreds of other franchises that I’m still a huge fan of to this day and I continue to find many new ones on the regular. Naruto's journey from a clownish, disrespected outcast into a talented, well-loved and admired hero is a memorable one.
This volume is feels on top of feels on top of feels. Naruto has been building up for a long time and, somehow, in the middle of this huge battle, the story slows down, so you have time to appreciate every little thing that happens as it happens. Volume 68 is a chance for readers to see how much our favorite character have grown up. I got a little misty eyed seeing them all want to stand at Naurto's side and be worthy of him. Just when you think it's impossible, they outdo themselves. You can also look forward to looking back--you'll get to see some memories of figures from the past. Seeing history repeat itself...It's really something.
god I can't believe how many times this stupid series has made me cry lmao it's embarrassing. But anyway I especially loved chapter 649; and it was nice how Obito redeemed(-ish) himself by the end.
Shikamaru is such a great friend. He's on his deathbed but he's not going quietly because he's got a job to do. He's already vowed to be there for Naruto as his advisor because Naruto makes him want to do things, to not just let life flow by. I adore Shikamaru. I always remember the scene where he speaks with his father. It was deeply heartfelt. If he can be acknowledged by and inspire the laziest boy in the village, he can get anyone to do anything.
Sasuke and Naruto take a leaf out of the history books in cloaking Kurama in the susanoo. It looks even better with it being the Kurama chakra than his physical body. His friends helping out with the multiple rasengan was a beautiful touch. His heart truly was filled with comrades. He wasn't going to lose against Obito.
I understand why he's doing it, but I'm really sick of hearing Obito whining. He's been regurgitating the same sh*t for the past volumes and I'm honestly so bored of him. I get it, he lost hope and needed to know if he was WRONG to go down this path by watching Naruto take a different one. I'm glad Naruto's given up on the soft approach. He's also had enough of Obito. He basically orders him to "stop whining, stop dragging the rest of us down, stop daydreaming, you're going to come back to Konoha and repent for your sins; now shut up and hold my hand!" Even when Obito gives it one final go, trying to strangle him, Naruto gives him such a simple wallop to the face. It's very effective.
It was more emotional to see Obito have that conversation with his former team. Kakashi and Minato understand more clearly everything Obito has gone through and what, who he lost. Himself and Rin. Kakashi also went through the depression that led Obito down this path so he can show him what helped him out of the hell hole. Being a teacher and guide to the new era of heroes, Minato's son and living for the people he loved and lost.
When it seems it's all over because Obito is down, Madara's sealing is all that's left, but it's not that easy. I wonder if Sasuke feels any kinship towards Obito and Madara as Uchiha. He's all about the clan, but he's eager to kill the two. Even before he knew someone helped Obito, he didn't seem to feel much for Tobi. It must just be the clan he knew as family, not just any old person who shares his blood. There's so many Naruto's and Sasuke's in this story and they all fail. Except for the last two, they've got to save each other.
The bijuu were dragged out of Obito through a game of tug-o-war with the help of everybody. Now the bijuu want to help take down Madara. Shukaku is my second favourite bijuu: he's cutely round, has a terrible personality and an evil little laugh.
Madara has now forced Obito to perform the Art of Rinne Rebirth so he's back. I love his menacing and excited face during all this. He's here for a good time before he gets his sh*t done. This is the corner Masashi Kishimoto drew himself into and from here the story derails further. But there's a brilliant fight still to look forward to.
Wowie! I think this volume just reinvigorated my interest in this arc. I was really worried that the battle against Obito as the Ten Tails Jinchuriki was going to go on for the rest of the series and would be really drawn out, but thankfully we get to see the conclusion to Obito's arc in this volume. This volume was heavily centered around the question of what it means to be Hokage. We get to see the first ever Gokage Summit and Hashirama shows the Allies his what his dream for the future. He gives a speech that riles everyone up once more just as the current Kage join the battle. As Naruto fights against Obito, he's subconsciously healing his fallen comrades, including Shikamaru. We get to see more of Shikamaru's insight to his relationship with Naruto and it just makes me wish that we could've seen more of Shikamaru throughout the series. He's been one of my favorite character's throughout the series and I would have loved to see more of Naruto and Shikamaru's friendship. I'm surprised that the Gokage didn't have a bigger part in this volume since they finally made their way to the main fight, but I assume they're going to play a bigger part while fighting Madara. There's something that's been bugging me for a while about Madara and Obito's plan, though. Their plan is to project a Sharingan on the Moon and put the entire world into a dreamlike state, but the only feasible way for that to work is during a full moon with a clear sky. What would happen when the Sun comes up and the Moon sets? Or when there isn't a full Moon. Wouldn't the genjutsu be released? And I assume that the world Naruto is set in is similar to Earth, so wouldn't that mean that half of their world would be unaffected? I have so many questions about the Infinite Tsukuyomi, but I don't think we're going to see the affects of it. Seeing Naruto and Sasuke work together with their Susano'o Biju was so cool and Naruto lending his chakra and jutsu to his comrades was so fun to see. Seeing inside Obito's mind and what could have been was the highlight of this volume. His life could have been so different and seeing what could have been is absolutely tragic. I kind of wished that everyone saw Obito's feelings during the tug-of-war, it seemed like no one else saw it except for Naruto, Minato, and Kakashi. Seeing everyone work together was really nice because if feels like a lot of the minor characters were pushed to the side and haven't really been able to fight alongside Naruto. I wasn't expecting Obito to change, but I'm very happy he did. He's been compared to Naruto since his reveal and actually getting to see those comparisons and having Obito see himself in Naruto was just perfect. I really wish we got to see Obito try to make up for it, but it doesn't seem like he's long for this world since Madara used him to perform the Rinne of Rebirth to bring him back to life. I really love that Obito acknowledges Nagato's 'betrayal' and how he never expected to do the same thing, but Madara just had to ruin the fun and take over his body. Now, Madara is back from the dead...yipee. I know that he wants his plan to succeed, but I think coming back to life was the wrong move. Now, he has the chance to die again and while he's seemingly all-powerful, he is still mortal. I really wished that Obito got to atone for his sins, though.
What I am about to say is going to sound quite odd. When I first read this volume, I felt like it reminded me of things that Jesus taught about it and some principles that are in Christianity. I think it was the part where Naruto is talking about paths and the role of a Hokage. While I read this volume before I attended church yesterday, I am writing this review after church. The readings for this past Sunday was about shepherds and what they should do for their sheep. The readings concluded with the Gospel reading from Mark, where Jesus mentions the people are a sheep without a shepherd. Then to go along with this the priest had a homily about how shepherds are supposed to sacrifice themselves and give their entire being to their charges. This is very much what Naruto sounded like when talking about the Hokage. "A Hokage is the fellow who walks ahead of everyone else, swallowing his or her pain. Thus a Hokage never walks over his comrades' corpses." That sounds like sacrifice to me. We also see Naruto acting like a shepherd going after a lost sheep. Remember, Naruto doggedly try to get Sasuke back otherwise known as a lost sheep.
The other thing I want to mention is the relationship between Sasuke and Naruto. This volume reminded me that their relationship is similar to Izuku's and Bakugo's relationship. Before someone brings it up, I want to say ignore their personalities. The personalities do not match at all if you try to do this on a one-to-one comparison. You need to focus on the relationships themselves. Izuku's and Bakugo's relationship and Naruto's and Sasuke's relationship are equal ratios to each other. Look how they talk to each other and how they view themselves as rivals and maybe friends. When you look at that I think you will find that they are the same.
While we know Naruto is one of the classic manga with great acclaimed, you could make the argument that My Hero Academia is Naruto's heir. Yes, I know there is Boruto, but the story is not the same or even remotely similar as Boruto keeps reminding us ad nauseam. My Hero Academia is an equal ratio to Naruto. They are both different, yet the same.
Verdict: Overall, this was a good volume even though I already know what happens next.
Seru seru seru.
Obito tuh bantalannya sedikit jika jatuh. Neneknya, Minato, Kakashi, dan Rin. Bantalannya sudah dia anggap bolong semua ketika jatuh. Maka dia langsung lebam.
Berbeda dengan Naruto. Bantalannya di tambah terus. Awalnya hanya Iruka, lalu Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura; kemudian Neji, Gaara, Rock Lee, Shikamaru, Kiba, dst; selanjutnya Jiraiya, Tsunade; dan terus bertambah sampai seluruh desa bersedia merahasiakan keberadaannya saat Pein datang.
Dia memang jatuh ketika Sasuke, Jiraiya dan Neji pergi. Tapi bantalan dia masih empuk dan tebal. Jadi dia bisa bangkit lagi tanpa terbentur lebam. Tokoh Black Zetsu tokoh yang diam-diam buat sebal setengah mati.
This is one of those series that I'm still reading because I've gotten so far, and am so close to the end, that I'm committed to seeing it through.
We are STILL in the middle of the war, I'm not sure how many volumes it's been at this point. A big baddy is defeated, finally, only for the other one to step up stronger than ever. So like, two steps forward, one step back. Naruto is giving it his all. And apparently everyone else is too? Shikamaru actually had a couple of lines which I liked. I've always had a soft spot for the lazy genius though. Gaara also had a few lines that moved me. But I've always had a soft spot for him too.
Kakashi and Naruto's dad had a moment. To be honest, I'm sure I was supposed to feel something for Obito in all of this, but I just didn't. All of the adults in this series are disasters, to the point of being almost irredeemable. And characters like Naruto paid for their mistakes/selfishness/just general suckiness.
Every time someone mentions the importance of being together and supporting each other, I'm reminded that Naruto didn't have that when he needed it most. Gaara didn't have that when he needed it most. It was only after they got stronger and older (the worst of their neglect and abuse happened from the time they were babies) that people started treating them somewhat decently. It's disgusting, and does not give me warm fuzzy feelings towards their abusers (apparently that's what I'm supposed to feel?).
I'm just ready for it to be over at this point. Naruto ends at 72 volumes, and I have no plans to read Boruto at the moment, so thankfully I'm almost there.
Y funciona maravillosamente.
This felt kind of like the story's climax to me, especially in terms of Naruto's character development. The way he and Obito compared and contrasted was probably the most profound this story gets in terms of what it means to choose to pursue your dreams and create a community in a world that is unfair and unkind. The sentiment might seem a little cheesy, but Naruto's character really sells it. He's not brilliant or blessed with the best gifts or talents, but through perseverance, his strong relationships and staying true to himself, he becomes an inspiration. It's just a really solid coming-of-age story, and I think it holds up. So many young boys get sucked into this story for the ninja battles, but they come away understanding what it means to value friendships and a positive sense of self. If any parents worry about their sons or daughters reading weird violent comics, trust me when I say Naruto does a lot more good than harm.
Pros! I really enjoyed Naruto and sasuke teaming up to fight Obito. The part where they fused together was awesome. Plus the artwork of sasukes susonoo on Naruto’s fox kiajo mode was so cool.
Obito becoming the sage of six paths was awesome and the whole fight with they and Obito in this form was great.
I also really liked how we got a “what if” part. And it shows us what could have been if Obito has stayed good. Really loved how Naruto and Obito were so similar and they are opposites of one another. Obito as a character is what Naruto could be if he was evil, and Obito vise versa.
Cons.
As much as I liked a lot about this volume, I do wish the fight between Obito as the sage of 6 paths and Naruto and sasuke would have lasted a little longer. Obito is only in this form for a little before he is essentially beaten.
Over all great edition, Madara is back! Can’t with to jump into the next volume!
