Myra Davies owns her own contractor company and loves working in the city of New Orleans, but after her ex-wife left her for another woman and a more exciting life, she’s left feeling lonely and unsure of what to do with herself outside of work.

Elisa Benedetti finally had the courage to divorce her husband and tell the world that she’s gay. She’s ready to start over in New Orleans with her twins, who are about to go off to college. Unfortunately, the first house she’s ever bought herself needs a lot of work, and Elisa is surprised to discover that she just moved in right next door to a very attractive contractor named Myra.

When Myra and Elisa meet, it’s clear that there’s something there between them. Elisa has a lot to deal with, though, from her ex-husband to her kids and a new house that needs fixing up, and she’s not sure if Myra is willing to put up with all of it. Still, to Myra, Elisa is exactly what she’s always been looking for.

4.5 for this one. I loved seeing Myra’s story. She was really a side character in the other books, but the story of her connection with Elisa was really good. The angst didn’t come from Myra and Elisa, even though it could have. It was from Elisa’s family situation. The chaos of having new adult children, recent divorce, moving to a new city, and coming out wasn’t too overwhelming, and it could have been. Nicole crafts the story with a good flow and, dang, if Myra wasn’t so chill and undramatic, this could have easily gone sideways. On to September!

#8 in the NOLA series and it continues to deliver. In this book we get to learn more about Myra and her love journey. Kinda like in July with Jill who is original character since the first book, Myra has been around since the beginning as well but you never really dive into her character. You meet her because she is the contractor that helps Kyle with her home.

I really enjoyed how this story is different from the other couples because Elisa which we get to meet in this story has kids. Her kids are 18 and getting ready to go to college. It was nice to see them involved in the dynamic between their mom and Myra. There’s a ex husband which I’m not a fan of but it really has you routing for Elisa to find happiness. Even though Myra is the character you follow from the friend group I really like Elisa character. She’s a great addition to the NOLA family.

This is a story about realizing that its never too late to decided that you deserve to be happy and live your truth. Topped off with a little bit of spice! Can’t wait for September.

Pyland’s next release, August, is another one you won’t want to miss. Myra is a character who has been around since January, and we finally get to dive into her life. She’s always been work-driven and takes pride in her contractor company, a bit to the detriment of her personal life. However, it’s almost as if Elisa falls right into her lap when she not only hires Myra for a job but also lives next door. Elisa has kept her true self hidden for the sake of her children, but now that they are starting college, she is finally ready to start over fresh.

The two MCs show inspiring inner strength. You feel protective of them. I enjoyed that there were a lot of obstacles Myra and Elisa had to go through, but there wasn’t too much angst. Once again, the supporting characters in this book were amazing, and I’m very excited that one of them is the next main character in September. I was a little nervous that this book might be a letdown after the fan-favorite couple in July, but that was not the case. Be sure to pick up this book for your next read!

Meet/cute meets Girl nextdoor

With 8 books down in the New Orleans series, Nicole has yet to let us down.
This one is probably my favorite of the bunch so far.
August fits right in with the rest as a sweet, realistic, low angst romance novel. This one is just as (maybe even slightly more in my opinion) steamy as the rest and focuses on a single mother with college aged twins and a workaholic construction company owner. Elisa and Myra.
Mayra helps Elisa heal from her divorce and abusive ex-husband and teaches her what it's like to live authentically while Elisa shows Myra that there is more to look forward to in life than all work and no play. Together they are able to overcome their difficult pasts and find love again.
The side characters, like Gwen and the twins bring some levity and mild conflict into the mix but they are all interesting and likable.
10/10 would recommend if girl nextdoor or single parent romances is your thing. 10/10 if you are looking for something light and fun.

Another Great Story

People are parents too. That’s not a difficult concept for adults, but for kids, it can be very tricky. The story examines the coming of age of a parent as well as her twin children. The conversations between the siblings and parent are witty and hilarious.

I especially enjoyed the conversations between mother and son about things like choices, boundaries, and letting go of the comfortably familiar. I think many college boys would benefit from reading this story.

It takes some sad turns, reviewing loss of relationships and past struggles, and figuring out how to avoid the same issues going forward. Fortunately, Nicole Pyland is able to wrap it all together in a fun and enjoyable tale.

And with an ever growing circle of friends, no one can despair for too long.

The book has a slightly different tone froym the others in the series. I enjoyed the perspectives of women in a different stage of life.

This is the 8th book in Nicole Pyland’s New Orleans series and Nicole has written a great book that I very much enjoyed reading. In this book you get to find out more about Myra, who you meet briefly in the first book as the contractor that Kyle's hires to fix up her house. Myra appears a few times in the other books, but now its time for her story to be told.

Next you have Elisa who has made the difficult decision to finally be true to herself now that her kids have grown up and she no longer feels like she has to stay in her marriage for them.

These two women had quite a bit of baggage, however, they just clicked and were both supportive of each other . I appreciated the change of pace with this book and the chemistry between Myra and Elisa. As I read more of the books in this series it keep thinking okay this one is my favourite and then read the next and think the same thing. So far this book has definitely tied as one of my favourite of the series so far. I truly recommend reading it.

I have enjoyed all of Nicole Pyland’s books, but this was a refreshing change of pace. This book featured two middle aged women with more than the usual baggage. One is a recently divorced, newly out lesbian with twin teenagers and the other is a workaholic with an ex wife who cheated before divorcing her. They are not a typical couple but they just clicked together. Brought together by proximity and coincidence, they quickly filled a void for each other. They seemed to fall pretty quickly, but it seemed like they were both exactly what the other needed. In some ways this story seemed more real than many HEA books where everyone is almost too good to be true.

I highly recommend this story and this series. It’s sweet, romantic and funny. It was good to check in with the others as Myra introduced her expanding group of friends to Elisa. And of course, we got a visit from the fortune teller which is always a fun addition.

The Best So Far

“August” is Number 8 in the New Orleans series, and may just be the best, so far! Featuring mature women facing real, life-altering challenges, Nicole Pyland has introduced us to Elysa and Myra. The ladies meet because of mold and a leaky roof. As contractor Myra puts her repair skills to work, Elysa begins to navigate life as a single, and newly out woman. Getting to know one another brings its own challenges, like Elysa’s twin teens, and narcissistic ex-husband. Can Myra put the house in order as Elysa faces her challenges and puts her life in order? The plot is a good one, and the story is so well-written, it feels like the reader is part of the NOLA group of friends - all of them introduced in earlier NOLA series episodes. Don’t feel you have to read them in order, just read them! Enjoy!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finding love when you aren’t even looking is special. This book we get to know Myra who has been around as a side character through the NOLA series. Myra is a workaholic contractor, which was one reason she was single.

Elisa is fresh from a divorce with two teenage kids. A lot is going on in Elisa’s life after divorce. She gets to be her real self. The house she bought needs work and so she makes a phone call for a contractor and connects with her next door neighbor Myra.

The Elisa and Myra connect almost instantly, like they’ve known each other for a long time. Myra agrees to fix the issues at Elisa’s house and as they spend more time together so do their feelings.

Another beautiful love story of re-discovering yourself and letting yourself love and be loved.

Annnnnnnnd another great story from Nicole Pyland! I can’t imagine what an undertaking it is writing a book for each month of the year but she is knocking them out of the park!

August focuses on Myra and Elisa’s story! Myra has been a side character in many of the books in this series and Elisa is brand new to New Orleans! She’s Myra’s new neighbour in fact! Myra is divorced and Elisa is newly out. When Myra helps her new neighbour she ends up with a lot more than a bit of work…she finds her person.

I was previously concerned about the amount of characters and how Nicole would deal with this but it’s honestly not too bad. She’s written them in a way that each is almost a stand alone book that just has a bunch of side characters. And I’m still really wanting to go to NOLA!

Nicole Pyland's "August," the New Orleans series book eight, highlights Myra, a character who's had some minor scenes in previous stories.

Myra Davies, 40, divorced, runs her own contracting company and spends most of her time focused on work. The focus seems to shift, subtly but noticeably, when Elisa Benedetti and her children move into the vacant house next door. With the children now college age, Elisa has decided she will no longer hide the fact that she is gay and will live the life she craved.

This story masterfully combines heart, giving you characters to root for, and heat, in scenes that shouldn't be read on a bus! The chemistry between Myra and Elisa is electric and addictive, definitely a page-turner.

I received an ARC for my honest review.

Myra, Kyle and Melinda's contracter from the first installment of the New Orleans series, meets Elisa, who was with her ex-husband, Archie, for almost 20 years. It was a loveless marriage to a selfish man, where Elisa was primarily a housekeeper and stay-at-home mom to the twins she had nine months after her first time having sex, with Archie. However, Elisa has her own needs, that have been sitting in the closet with her for more than 20 years. So Elisa lets loose, which results in quite a few very sexy scenes. Elisa's twins also play a large and enjoyable supporting role in this book. The rest of the now-growing group of friends formed in the previous installments also make brief appearances. I thoroughly enjoyed this installment in the series.

NOLA is becoming one of my favorite series. I love these characters and am seriously invested in them. The only issue is I have to wait another month for September.

Something about the second chance romances that many of these feature is so adorable that I can’t help but get teary eyed.

I also like that our antagonist (ex husband) wasn’t redeemed. Homophobia and sexism aren’t things that I want resolved so quickly and it often feels like Pyland and other authors want to resolve all their conflicts by the end of the book. Glad it didn’t happen here.

Also when we hit December, it’s gonna require a flow chart to remember 24 different people and how they relate to one another.

August-What a great way to start off the month. This book was a really great read. Myra and Elise are sweet and have got some major chemistry. This troupe is one of my favorites as well. This series seems to have it all so for! I laughed a lot. I also got mad at the ex husband. The kids are sweet. I love that Adele was coming into her own as well, and has the support of her mother. Elise is a strong woman who is finally able to be herself and literally wastes no time finding her person. Myra being that person has waited a long time to find Elise. They are perfect for each other.

August is another excellent addition to Pyland’s NOLA series. In it, we meet Elisa and learn more about Myra, who was introduced earlier in the series. The book focuses on Myra and Elisa’s story. It has everything I've come to expect from Pyland. It’s funny, serious, and heartfelt. It has an adorable meet-cute, and Pyland does a lovely job of balancing the light-hearted moments with the serious ones.

Nicole Poland just keeps these sweet love stories coming!

Myra is a workaholic business owner, lonely in the love department. Elisa is a very recent divorcee who has decided to come out of the closet as her children (twins) graduate from high school and are preparing for college. Elisa’s ex is a not pleasant cardiologist who is concerned more with his image than his family. Let’s just say, when Elisa and Myra meet; wowza magic! Thank you Nicole for another great read.

I absolutely loved this story! Myra and Elisa are both strong, relatable women starting fresh in their own ways, and their connection felt real from the start. I love the New Orleans setting more and more, with every book. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow through all the ups and downs—messy houses, past relationships, and big life changes. It’s sweet, romantic and hopeful.

I loved reading Myra's and Elisa's story. I was totally thrilled that Myra got her story told.
The chaos that Myra and Elisa endure from Elisa's kids brought out gasps, what? and ooppssss from me. What a loving journey it was and so excited to see how far they go. Each month the circle of friends grows which is such fun seeing how each couple is doing. Can't wait for September.

Of all the contractors she could call in New Orleans, Elisa happens to call Myra. Not only that, but they are neighbors! Elisa is be new to exploring her long repressed sexuality, and she is all about balancing the needs of her twins who are preparing to head to college. As you’d imagine, all of these factors make for some interesting moments in August!
