I was born in 1962 in Coventry (scarily ancient, I know). I wrote my first picture book for my little brother when I was eight or nine. I loved making comics, too - pages and pages of picture stories, features and competitions.

I went to Art College in Liverpool, then got a job as fiction editor on the fab and legendary Jackie magazine.

I have worked as agony aunt on Shout magazine and also as an art teacher in the local primary & secondary schools, as well as as a freelance illustrator. These days, I am a full-time author.

I love my family, I love living in the middle of nowhere and I love my work. Of all my jobs, writing has to be the best - it's the perfect excuse to daydream, after all!

Je me suis beaucoup attachée à Cherry.

I am not familiar with the author, but the cover was very cute and tempted (pink, heart shape, chocolates, cute title etc, just see it yourself =9) so i tried this.
After stayed at my book pile for about 5 months, finally i decided to read this when i needed a light reading. And yes, this is totally light and fast reading (I read this about 4-5 hours at night =p).

The story mainly is about love and family, and full with lovable characters.

Cherry Costello is a cute, dreamer, and good girl (and wow she is half Scottish half Japanese), and she seems living her simple live with her father quite happily, but the main problem is she keeps lying to make herself looks good in front of others and she knows it. Although it doesn't make any harm to anybody, that personality flawed her cuteness and makes her looks pitiful. Thankfully the author didn't make Cherry's lying problem as the main issue for the entire story.

What is nice also how her new family happily accept Cherry and her father, well, almost all her new family, not Honey. I didn't like her at the first, she was a typical of popular-blonde-girl, often mad for no reason, egoist, and rude. But after read some chapters i knew her more and even sympathized her when Shay was 'snatched away'. Not Cherry nor Shay's fault though, because Shay couldn't take Honey's rudeness and Cherry was a nice and cute girl who was always there to heard Shay.

Shay had a player image and every girl in town liked him. I like how Shay slowly approached Cherry in many sweet ways *amused*.

I can't wait for the next book after saw the ending part. Very thrilling! If you like light, cute and sweet like chocolate's story, this book is fit for you.
I give this 4 star, despite of the simple story, i couldn't put it down and finished it in short time ;D

I hate it when a really light and short book takes me for ever to read.
This was an okay book. My favorite thing was the chocolate. I really got hungry while I was reading it. But I had a few issues. First of all Cherry was acting so childish. She is around 15 years old, but she was acting as if she was 5. And Seriously, she needs to stop making up so many stories. And I didn't like her father. I get it that he was trying to give Honey space, but what kind of parent makes his child sleep in the garden. Even though I don't like Honey I think that she has a right to be angry. I mean Cherry stole her boyfriend and her own family has nothing against it.

Having previously read Lucky Star by Cathy Cassidy and really enjoyed it I jumped at the chance to review this one. I am so glad I did because I really, really loved it

Taking a fairly simple premise Cathy Cassidy injects it with magic. Full of wit and charm it's a book that I know would have been one of my absolute favourites had I read it as a teen. Even now, many moons away from being a teenager, I read it in one sitting - just completely captured by all the wonderful characters.

I adored Cherry. She was kind and considerate - especially towards her dad. She was being asked to make big changes in her life but I don't remember her complaining. Yes, she did have a tendency to tell some white lies and be rather economical with the truth but she didn't do any of it to be mean - it was done more as a way to fit in and be liked. I loved all the other characters too - even Honey - who I thought was an interesting character and am really looking forward to her story. All the characters were completely fleshed out - even the parents who can sometimes be overlooked.

My favourite aspect of the story though was Cherry and Shay's friendship. It was extremely sweet and one that felt based on a true connection. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens between them in future installments. I'm so glad this is going to be a series of five books. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

The Chocolate Box Girls: Cherry Crush
Life for Cherry isn’t easy. She lives in Scotland with her Dad and has no friends at school. In an attempt to fit in, Cherry lies about her life- but it all backfires when the truth is revealed. One day, her Dad meets up with an old art school friend and they fall in love. Cherry’s Dad has dreams of running a chocolate business instead of working at McBean’s Chocolate Factory and he and his new partner, Charlotte are going to make those dreams a reality. Cherry and her Dad move to Somerset to live with Charlotte and her four daughters, Honey, Skye, Summer and Coco. But, when Cherry falls for Honey’s boyfriend, Shay, and her Dad proposes to Charlotte, there’s trouble. Cherry Costello’s life changes forever. Her dad re-marries and they have to move to Somerset, where a new step mum and her new step sisters wait. And on cherry’s first day, her life is ruined by the gorgeous Shay Fletcher. All she can think about is shay. She’s never been so in love with someone, Shay is her first crush at Somerset, but that is all changed when she finds out Shay has a girlfriend. And his girlfriend is her new stepsister, Honey. Cherry knows that her friendship with Shay could potentially ruin everything, but she still risks it. Cherry’s mum died when she was only four, leaving Cherry with very few memories of her. The only way she got by was telling herself imaginative stories, giving herself new stories and new stories to pretend to live in. A step-family is never easy; Cherry has always felt different with her straight dark hair and olive skin. Not having a mother around didn’t help either, particularly when the girls at school realised that she would always make tales up, and lie, because nothing interesting was happening in her life. The Tanberry family were quite a close bunch, with fourteen year old Honey, Skye and Summer the twelve year old twins and eleven year old Coco. As Cherry was thirteen it was hoped that she could share a room with Honey, but Honey makes it quite clear that she has no intention of doing that – and she doesn’t like that Cherry's is always around, she likes to show him his not welcome. It's three years since her parents split up, but Honey in convinced that her father will be coming back home sometime, but he’s really not.

Well.
It was okay. I was quite disappointed, if I'm being perfectly honest. The characters weren't believable enough for me. Cherry was nice enough, but it's not like she was a strong heroine or anything. she just ambled along, taking the flack from her awful stepsister-to-be Honey Tanberry.

That character was ridiculous. I didn't believe in her one bit. How could somebody be in such denial about the state of their life? She was completely cracked and a stuck up cow. I don't know if that's the impression that Cathy Cassidy was going for, but whatever.

And Shay? He was annoying too. Contrary to what he believed, the weight of the entire world did not rest on his shoulders. He didn't have to be responsible for Honey. He was just a complete drama queen.

Yep, didn't enjoy that one.

Five full stars for this one. Also, this is my new favourite book. And the greatest book I've read in 2018 so far.

So, this is the first installment in the "Chocolate Box Girls" series, called "Cherry Crush". Cherry is a newly-high schooler girl that lives only with her father, Paddy. We only know that she grew up without a mother. At first, we don't know if her mother just ran away or else.
We see her collegue Kirsty McRae, a bitchy mean chic that slowly ruins Cherry's life. We also see that Cherry is a great story-teller; she has an incredible imagination and lies almost everybody with stories about her boring life to make it look greater. I don't dislike her for that.

Meanwhile, Paddy starts talking to an old collegue of his, Charlotte. She is a blonde woman, always laughing and so kind. He works to a chocolate fabric called McBean and sorts the Taystee chocolates. It's not really a great job. So when Paddy asks Cherry to move to Somerset together with Charlotte and start a chocolate business, Cherry agrees. Only that she finds out that Charlotte is divorced and has 4 daughters of her own. Knowing that she is awful when it comes to social relationships, Cherry is a bit frighten.

When they get there, Cherry meets the four sisters: the younger one, Coco, having a personality identical to boys, cute, redhead who loves animals; the twins, Skye and Summer - Skye loves vintage stuff, especially dresses and Summer loves ballet and wants to be a professional dancer one day; and last, but not least, the older one, Honey, the mean one, the blondie, temperamental that still sufferers for Greg, her real father and thinks that he will come back one day, and has the most cutest boyfriend, Shay Fletcher.

Of course, Honey is even more evil than Kirsty McRae and acts so awful around Cherry and Paddy.
Cherry falls for Shay, the guy with black winter cap (even if it was July) and the blue guitar.

Will they manage to start the chocolate business? And if they do, will it work? What will happen when Cherry's lies are being discovered by the new family members? Or when Honey will find out about Cherry and Shay?

Well, if you want to know the answers, just READ THIS BOOK! Trust me, it's amazing!

I've cried, and the ending was so shivering. And no, it doesn't end in a cliffhanger. And there is no love triangle.
The book is written in the first-person view, so we can actually see what the protagonist sees. Besides that, it is written in present time. The chapters are somewhat short, so it doesn't get boring. It's easy to read and I emphasized with Cherry so well.

Now, the next book in the series is "Marshmallow Skye", from Skye's point of view. Can't wait.
Plus, the covers are so gorgeous. And you can't stop drooling when you read about all the desserts there. I really recommend the series!

I literally read this in two hours and forty-seven minutes and in that time I felt about a million different emotions going round my head. I've always admired Cathy Cassidy. When I was younger I used to love reading about the things going on in her books; reading her books taught me a LOT. I'm so glad she finally decided to write a series (five books altogether), after much demand!

The Chocolate Book Girls: Cherry Crush is the story of Cherry Costello. Cherry lives with her dad and her little fishy Rover in Glasgow. But now, they're moving out of their little flat, and moving in with her father's girlfriend, Charlotte (and her big family), in Somerset. Charlotte has four daughters; Honey, Sky and Summer (who are twins but nothing like each other) and Coco. They're about the same age as Cherry and she's feeling excited, they could be like the sisters she never had.

The eldest girl, perfect, gorgeous Honey, is very complicated. Still sure that her parents are in love and her father is going to come running back very soon, she's horrible to Cherry, and she doesn't understand that Charlotte is now in a serious relationship with Cherry's dad. Eager to please her new family, Cherry's coping with Honey's dirty looks by telling stories of her life. Stories that aren't necessarily true. But she can't help it - they just seem to come out...

I loved Cherry. She was a very sweet girl. When Cherry's dad told her they were moving, I don't remember her complaining about it. And that was a really big change for her. And, okay, she told a few lies, but it wasn't in spite of anyone! It was because she was afraid her new sisters wouldn't like her; She tried and even though it probably wasn't the best way to blend in, I admire her for trying because not mnay people ven bother to do that. All the other characters were interesting too, very well thought-out.

I really like how Cassidy transformed the simplest storyline into something completely charming and fun. Cherry Crush is the start of an amazing new series and I can't wait for the next book in the series, Vanilla Skye!

Oh and the cover is very pretty. There are some actual images of chocolate. Yum. Some beautiful illustrations inside (at the top of each new chapter) too.

W zamian serwuje młodszym czytelniczkom opowieść dziewczyńską, taką, w której odnajdą się wchodzące w świat dorastające dziewczyny, słodko-gorzką, pełną sercowo-rodzinnych problemów, kobiecych konfliktów i wirujących hormonów.

I really loved this first book in the series. The main character referencing email and MSN as a way of 14-year-old friends keeping in contact long distance threw me right back into my childhood. I was impressed that despite the situation of sibling crushing on her sister’s boyfriend it managed to steer clear of any cheating whatsoever. I felt like the romance was a bit off – the two characters make out as if they have chemistry when they really don’t… or at least haven’t had enough time to develop any.

But aside from the romance I really loved the coming together of these two families. Both the mother and father characters are previously divorced and have decided to try blending their families – and now they are all stepsisters. I loved the passion and ambition that the dad has as he wants to make homegrown chocolate business. Then we have the mum running a B&B in part of the estate. And then all the girls have their creative hobby that they want to focus on and nourish. I loved Cherry’s wild creativity and what she chose to do with it in the end.

Of course, the merging of two families isn’t smooth sailing. I liked how that storyline doesn’t end in this book – it’s clear this is going to be something that progresses throughout the sequels as well. I like that it gives the book room to grow those relationships because it would take time in real life too. Also, the place they live is called Tanglewood and it sounds magical and idyllic. I would love to live there!

Cathy Cassidy is yet another prolific UK children's author I'd never read until now. I'm not going to lie: I've always thought her books looked too young, which is why I avoided them. Pretty bad, I know. I'm really surprised by how much I enjoyed Cherry Crush, as I had no idea it'd be so fun or addictive.

This is the first in a brand new 5-book series, which I believe is Cassidy's first, and came about due to fan demand. It's the story of Cherry Costello who, along with her father, moves from Glasgow to Somerset to be with his new girlfriend, Charlotte, and her large family. Charlotte has 4 daughters - Honey, Skye, Summer and Coco. They're all roughly around the same age as Cherry, and are like the sisters she never had. I liked all the sisters, though Honey left something to be desired. I know I'm supposed to sympathise with her situation, but I can't be doing with people who behave like that. She's the only aspect of the book I really didn't like, but I can see that her emotional journey was an important part of her family's lives.

Cherry Crush has a great sense of family values, which is what I loved most about it. I'm really close to my family, and seeing that portrayed in books always makes me smile. Family is the most important thing after all, and Cassidy effortlessly shows that with her story of change and self-discovery. Of course, Cherry Crush wouldn't be complete without a little romance, which comes in the form of Honey's boyfriend Shay. He's sweet, supportive and struggling with family problems of his own. He instantly connects with Cherry, and the way their friendship develops is subtle and unassuming.

Cassidy covers so many themes here that it's difficult to mention them all. Loss, truth and acceptance play a big part in Cherry's story, but there's so much more waiting for you within these pages. It's an absolute joy to read, and I think teenagers will love it - if I'd read it when I was 14, I'd have thought I'd won the book lottery. The next instalment, Vanilla Skye, is published in September 2011, and I can't wait. If I could read it now, I would!

The amount of positive reviews and the 4.02 average rating that this book has made me expect that this would be such a great book but I was only disappointed.

Sure, it was nice enough. The cover was cute, the title was cute, and the premise was good- cliche but still nice but I really didn't like it that much. Maybe I'm not part of the target audience? I don't know.

First of all, Cherry is a very sweet and good hearted person but she didn't really come off as a strong character. Most of the time she was just there .Not doing anything, not much character development going on either. Also, there were times when I wonder if she's actually in her preteens.

I think Honey was also a bit of a weak character. I know I'm supposed to feel sorry for her because of her current situation but I can't even summon a bit of sympathy to her not only because she's acting like a drama queen but because I think her problem is stupid and if I was one of her sisters I'd probably shake her head just so I could get it to jump-start.

And Shay. Oh boy. Shay.

I just couldn't see what made him oh so desirable. Is it because he's hot? Without that pretty face and blue guitar of his, I don't think you guys would like him either. This guy was willing to stay with Honey for a long time but one look at Cherry he's like, "NOPE! Gonna switch gfs" . I didn't even see the chemistry he had with her.

I also think he's even whinier than Honey and that's saying something.

Overall, this book isn't entirely my cup of tea but I did manage to finish it then again, the book isn't really that long so it wasn't that difficult to finish it immediately.

Would I recommend this to other people? I won't stop you if you would because honestly, apart from the flaws mentioned earlier, this book is also about family and a bit about self acceptance. I think the book did good with those parts but if you like slow-burn and poetic romances this book doesn't really have that.

It's a nice book though.

I can see that I will be the one misshapen Taystee Bar in a family of perfect chocolate-box girls. Great.

I went up to Scotland before Christmas last year and it has completely ruined me. Why would you ever want to come back to England after that. Anyway,

This was very light-hearted and cute! Cherry DOES have to move to England but her new home is this bucolic B&B overlooking a cliff and a beach in rural Somerset. HELLO!!!! And her new family comes ready-made with the 4 Tanberry sisters, but best 3/4 because Honey, the oldest sister, is only interested in trying to see her estranged father. Also Cherry's a bit of a liar, but we're all allowed a bit of embellishment my dude.

Let's start with the pros: CHOCOLATE. Cherry's father Paddy and Charlotte (Mum Tanberry) go into chocolate-making business together and actually start making something good. And I loved seeing all this come together. It's also when Cherry feels more in sync with everyone around her and not as on the edge of things as she keeps saying. I liked that despite all the shit Honey gave her, it's pretty striking how alike Honey and Cherry are, except that they choose to deal with their negative feelings very differently. They're definitely the most standout characters of this book and it's honestly what I think I'll be continuing the series for, if not already for the sweets.

The cons: YES, I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A YA BOOK THAT CAME OUT IN 2010. I CAN SMELL IT. As justified as Shay was to not like the way Honey was treating him, I don't feel enthusiastic about how the climax of this book was handled. He WILD!

Life is sweet but also very difficult. No one understands that more than a writer of YA. And since I read Coco Caramel during one of my secondary school years without knowing what it was and yet retained it in my mind the whole time, why not go the extra mile and get myself the whole chocolate box? And also a great big bottle of Irn-Bru.
