After a successful career as a commercial artist in advertising, Todd Lockwood was astonished to be told that people were willing to pay for the fantasy and science fiction art he vastly preferred to create. That discovery altered the course of his life, and he is now one of the most widely respected fantasy artists of our age. Known worldwide for his depiction of heroic and stirring high fantasy imagery under the aegis of TSR™ and Wizards of the Coast™, he also creates work of astonishing sensitivity and beauty in quieter styles. This book, with its revealing text by Hugo-nominated writer and journalist Karen Haber and by Lockwood himself, contains well over a hundred paintings from all areas of his fantasy creation.

The number of still to be collected Papertiger books is ever decreasing (though sadly will never be complete consider the price of those outstanding currently command). However I was able to add this to my collection and I am so pleased I did.
The quality of the artwork is amazing - and considering there are several name drops to other artists (more in praise of their support in Todd Lockwoods early career) you can certainly see their influence especially from one of my all time favourites Michael Whelan.
The book is a real delight and certainly benefits from the improved print and paper quality of the later editions (the early ones pretty much struggle from falling apart when you read them). So yes a wonderful artwork book from a true fan of the genre
This is a book of artwork by Todd Lockwood, who has been doing d&d stuff for years, and is now doing the artwork for Steven Erikson's novels, which brought my attention to this book. Anyway, it's all standard fantasy with many dragon paintings which are very good but not spectacular. The one thing of note is when Lockwood goes dark, he comes up with his best artwork. Someone in the horror field needs to pick this guy up. The book also has a history of Lockwood, and how the artwork came about, and some teachings for other artists. All-in-all a pretty good book. The artwork is amazing!
