Before I begin, I would like to thank Madelyn Smith for allowing me to read a copy of her upcoming novella, Romance Isn’t a Country Song, which will be available on Amazon on July 2nd, 2025.
Shelby portrayed some details wrong in her latest western romance and decides to go to Carter Ranch to learn and fix her mistakes for the next one. She didn’t expect that the cowboy teaching her about life on the ranch would be grumpy, cute, short, and also happens to read her romance books. Tate would rather spend time with horses than people, but he’s not ashamed to admit that he reads romance books. He’s surprised when his favorite author shows up to the ranch, but discovers he actually likes her better than horses. Tate keeps messing up in their interactions due to nerves, and Shelby needs to learn about horses and ranch life. Can Shelby embrace riding horses and farm life as feelings for each other start to develop? Or will they go their separate ways with conflicted hearts?
This novella was charming. You have Shelby, a sassy, sweet, curious, intelligent, talented, and beautiful young author that writes romance novels and aspires to learn from her mistakes. You have Tate, a gruff, kind, reserved, considerate, and handsome young man that likes working in his family’s ranch and reading romance books. The interactions between the main characters were funny, sweet, and honest. I liked learning about horses and how they were an integral part of Shelby and Tate’s relationship developing. I also loved the titles of the chapters very much. Overall, if you like horses, cowboys, great food, and sweet city girl x country boy romance with low spice, then I’ll highly recommend this novella.
