Evie Hunter is actually two authors Caroline McCall and Eileen Gormley who met at a creative writing workshop in Dublin in 2010. On discovering that they shared a passion for erotic fiction, they became the best of friends. In early 2012 they got a chance to co-write a series of erotic novellas for an American publisher. When they completed the second one without killing each other, they decided to take on something bigger. Eventually, they emerged into daylight, clutching THE PLEASURES OF WINTER, saying 'Never again' ... until the next time.
Dirty Secrets by Evie Hunter is a gangland thriller about Callie, a woman who’s finally had enough of the life she’s been living. She’s married into the con game, and getting out isn’t exactly easy; but Callie is smart, determined, and willing to play her own game if it means freedom.
Her husband, Gavin, has finally left her back home once too many times to deal with his shady associates while he enjoys himself on the run. Or is he? I must confess that I did enjoy watching his fall from societies grace.
With the help of a few unexpected friends and some clever manipulation, she finds a way to leave both her husband and that dangerous lifestyle behind.
Evie Hunter’s writing pulls you right into the story. I could picture every moment, the tension, the risks, and the small victories. The story moves fast, but not so fast that you miss the emotional parts. You can really feel Callie’s struggle to break free, and it makes you root for her even more.
I liked that this book wasn’t just about crime or revenge; it’s also about taking control of your own life when the odds are stacked against you. The author knows how to build suspense, and she gives you just enough heart to balance all the grit.
It’s a well-written, engaging story that keeps you turning pages, and I couldn’t help but hope Callie finally gets the peace she deserves.
A gritty, emotional ride about freedom, friendship, and finding your own power. Crime fiction fans won’t want to miss this one.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the advanced readers copy of the book.
It’s great to pick up where the second book ended, and Gavin has finally crawled out from under his stone, and wants revenge. Another gripping read from Evie Hunter.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with this ARC.
Loved this one! Callie is estranged from husband, Gavin when his business partner George is murdered. They had just developed a video game, Asteroids, that can also be played out in real life. Things get messy as there's little evidence, offshore accounts, and affairs. I raced through this as it begs to be read quickly! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I love this series !! So much ducking and diving Gavin is now shacked up with Jackie, after having some business dealings with Ryan o Keefe Jackies dad.... The family arnt impressed, would you want to cross that family???? Callie is enjoying time with her long time friend Dawn after she found out Dawn had had an affair with Gavin resulting in a son... Will Callie take down her husband? Will Gavin underestimate his wife?? Lots of grit and determination, great read, most definately would recommend
Thank you to author, Evie Hunter & publisher's, Boldwood for allowing me access to an e-read ARC of this book via NetGalley.
Dirty Secrets is the 3rd instalment in this series and is a direct continuation of book 2. With Gavin's big deal being scuppered and the murder of his man he left to follow it through, things are looking grim for the gangster. There's plenty of people on the hunt for his blood, but the longer he hides, the less influence he has over others. Wife Callie is well and truly onto him, and determined to make him pay, but she going to need more than her assistant Darren's help if she hopes to get back at Gavin.
Callie has really came into her own and I loved seeing her step up and show people what she's made of. Her relationship with Darren is lovely to see as it changes from a working one to a friendship and possibly more in future. The downfall of Gavin is amusing to witness, with a couple of scenes in particular that made me laugh. This series is perfect for fans of Jessie Keane and Kimberley Chambers, and is one I definitely recommend to those who like to read gangland crime thrillers. I've really enjoyed reading this series and I'm looking forward to checking out Evie's other books.
Evie Hunter's "Dirty Secrets" isn't just a thriller; it's an inferno. From page one, you're plunged into a cutthroat world where loyalty is a commodity, betrayal is a given, and survival requires ruthless cunning. Callie Renfrew is a captivating character, caught between her manipulative husband Gavin and the savage underworld he inhabits. She's not just a pawn; she's a strategist, playing the game by her own rules. Hunter's portrayal of Callie is sharp, fierce, flawed, and utterly magnetic. The tension escalates with each chapter as Callie navigates treacherous family rivalries and bloody deals, always under the shadow of betrayal. The writing is sharp and cinematic, balancing grit with a touch of glamour. If you like Martina Cole and Kerry Kaya, you'll love Hunter's raw energy and emotional depth. "Dirty Secrets" is the kind of book you devour in one sitting, leaving you breathless. If you crave fast-paced, character-driven thrillers, this one delivers in spades. Thanks to Evie Hunter, the publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.
The premise of the story sounded really good and interesting, but when starting the book the first 50 pages were filled with too many names and details of the previous books, it just made me feel like information overload!!
The story for me wasn’t that gripping, the writing style was ok. I think if you have read the other books in the series it would probably a more enjoyable read but as a stand alone story, sorry but it was for me.
Dirty Secrets is the 3rd in Evie Hunter's series and this one pulls the reader deeper into a whirlwind of tangled relationships and power struggles.and by now the characters feel well, developed making it easy to cheer for some but absolutely detest others. Gavin is such a despicable man he acts as though the world owes him something, and that makes him both frustrating and fascinating at the same time. Callie, his estranged wife, is strong and independent and has come to the realisation that she needs no man to succeed in life, and her growth has been centre stage in all the books. I did find the ending a little rushed, even though it managed to round things off neatly, and with plenty of drama and tension to keep you hooked, this was a solid addition to the series. Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the Arc.
This is the 3rd book in the Frenchurch Fall series. Callie is a successful businesswoman in her own right, but it was her husband who financed her spa. Since Gavin disappeared, Callie has been taking charge of their home and her businesses.
Gavin is in hiding from various people her has double-crossed. He is surprised when Callie finally finds a backbone and stands up against him. He has very few friends or colleagues who will help him. Callie, on the other hand, has acquaintances who are more than happy to stand by her side.
A lot is going on in this story, and the author does give a good amount to summing up the previous books. This was good for me because somehow I had missed reading them, so I dived into this one without realising. I was soon brought up to speed and in the midst of the action before I knew it.
There is a lot of animosity between various characters, but it is Callie who needs to stand up and be seen as a person in her own right. She wants nothing to do with her estranged husband, she is not naïve, so she knows at some point she will be standing face-to-face with him. Not something she wants, but can she wrangle things so it is on her terms?
This is another brilliant gangland crime thriller. The author has given the reader a story that flits between characters, dangers, and trying to figure out what is going on. There are switches of allegiance, seeing people in a new light or different perspective.
If you are a fan of gangland crime books the you will probably already have this author on your list. It is a fast-moving, twisty story that keeps the characters on their toes and makes for addictive reading. Very happy to recommend this one.
Evie Hunter’s Dirty Secrets is a gritty, high-stakes gangland thriller that doesn’t just simmer—it scorches. From the first page, you’re thrown into a world where loyalty is currency, betrayal is inevitable, and survival demands cunning.
Callie Renfrew is a woman on the edge, caught between her scheming husband Gavin and the brutal underworld he’s tangled in. But Callie isn’t just reacting—she’s plotting, calculating, and ready to play the game on her own terms. Hunter paints her with sharp strokes: fierce, flawed, and utterly compelling.
The tension builds with every chapter, as Callie navigates rival families, blood-soaked deals, and the ever-present threat of being double-crossed. The writing is punchy and cinematic, with just enough glamour to offset the grit. Think Martina Cole meets Kerry Kaya, but with Hunter’s own brand of raw energy and emotional depth.
It’s the kind of book you devour in one sitting, then sit back and think, “Well, that was a ride.” If you’re into thrillers that are fast-paced, character-driven, and unapologetically bold, Dirty Secrets delivers in spades
With thanks to Evie Hunter, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
This series is an action-packed, thrilling saga from page one. Unfortunately, I somehow didn't realize this was the third book in a series when I signed up (whomp, whomp - how do I keep doing that?!). And when I started reading, I could absolutely tell I'd missed a ton. I had enough time, I decided - it was early this week or late last week - to read all three of the books. I'm a goof, because that was a bit of a marathon read - and I had a lot of stuff to do (it is still Halloween here). But at the same time, what better time to binge a thrilling series than Halloween week?
And, I couldn't put them down! I was absolutely excited to get to this third book! I'm not sure if it's the final one - it wrapped up nicely, but there are also absolutely some things lingering that could come back. That's the best way to wrap up something in my mind - always leave it open, just in case.
The main ladies are absolute boss ladies! They are kicking butt and taking names. Callie and Dawn are just absolute firecrackers. They have every reason to hate each other - don't want to get into any spoilers - but if anything, the story just seems to bring them closer. Friendship goals! And Gavin is a walking, talking #metoo violation. Darren is a delight. He's book boyfriend material, almost too good to be true!
I'm not a huge gangster book person; I'm quite selective. But I'm glad I picked this one up. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough in this one, though. And the tale shows so much growth for our main heroines.
I can't wait to see what comes next out of this author's exciting mind!
"Dirty Secrets" is the third book in the series by Evie Hunter.
The story takes a little time to gather momentum, but once it does, it becomes an excellent crime novel. It primarily revolves around Gavin and Callie Renfrew. Gavin, an increasingly manipulative husband, has left Carrie to navigate the fallout from his dubious business dealings and his latest romantic entanglement. He is involved in numerous illicit activities and commands both fear and respect whenever he enters a room.
Tired of being walked all over, Carrie decides it's time for a change. She begins by emptying Gavin’s bank accounts and changing the locks on their home.
Callie, a strong character, has built her successful spa from the ground up. With the help of her devoted assistant, Darren, they plan to take action against Gavin; it's time for payback.
Gavin's many transgressions are utterly unforgivable. The book features a manageable number of characters, allowing readers to engage deeply with the story.
This gripping novel is filled with gangland intrigue and gritty scenes, making it impossible to put down until you reach the final page.
With her lowlife husband Gavin's last hustle blown to hell, Callie Renfrew knows it's only a matter of time before he comes crawling back, hungry for revenge. But before he can strike, Callie's got a few brutal scores to settle. But if her plan is going to work, she'll have to cut deals with the kind of people who deal in blood and - rival families who play by a whole different set of rules. One false step, one missing word, and Callie could find herself double-crossed. Unless she can use every dirty secret she has on Gavin, and finally claw her way out from under his shadow, once and for all.
This is a gritty gangland thriller. I was pulled in from the first page. There are characters you'll love, and others you'll love to hate. This is a well-written and tense read. The pace is fast. My only complaint, I felt the ending was a bit rushed.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #EvieHunter for my ARC of #DirtySecrets in exchange for an honest review.
This is actually the third book in the Frenchurch Falls series and I totally hadn't realised this was part of a series.
I normally do hate reading series books out of order and this did mean I struggled to get into this book at first.
There were definite references to previous books and I'm guessing that this third book followed on directly and continues a gritty storyline with returning characters.
I did really like the characters here, who were clearly well developed through the series.
Callie featured heavily in this story and I'm assuming that she's maybe taken more of a back seat in previous books, being impressed by her gangster husband, Gavin.
Gathering that his deals have gone awry and he's now in hiding, Callie takes the reins and wants her revenge.
I loved the relationship between Callie and Darren and their blossoming friendship, but is his help going to be enough?
I really do like a gangland thriller and this was well written and lacked with tense moments.
I definitely feel like I'd have enjoyed it more had I read the books in order though, so another lesson learned and another 2 books added to my tbr list so that I can catch up on what's happened so far!
I didn't realise that this was the third book in a series and haven't read the previous two. Unfortunately for me this book didn't work as a standalone and I found it took me a while to grasp who was who and what had happened previously. This possibly wasn't helped by the main character having the same name as the main character in my previous read! An annoying coincidence.
Despite that I enjoyed this book once I got into it. I love a good gangland thriller and this one ticked the boxes. It's a world I can't even imagine, but Hunter has managed to make me feel like I could. I loved seeing Callie's personal development alongside the thrilling and gritty world she’s part of.
I would definitely recommend reading this, but start with book 1 and read them all. I'll be going back to the start and reading from the beginning.
Dirty Secrets is a great addition to the authors Frenchurch Falls series. Gavin is back but is Callie glad to see him? And what does he want from her? This book gets off to a great start and has everything I like in a gangland thriller - good writing, characters I either like and root for or just loathe and a gripping plot line that grabbed my attention and interest and held it all the way through to the last page. This quickly became a very moreish read that was hard to put down mostly because I felt so invested in the characters and their lives and cared what happened to them. If you're a fan of gangland thrillers I would recommend this book although you need to read the series in order to know the characters from the start.
Dirty Secrets by Evie Hunter is the third book in the excellent Frenchurch Falls series, and was another excellent book within this series. Finally Gavin who is a estranged from husband, to Callie has finally crawled out from hiding and now he wants revenge. But, Callie is better that this and she is determined to play him at his own game........Good on her! I loved her character and she isn't one to mess with! Dirty Secrets is full of brilliant secrets that so many characters are hiding from each other, but we all know these secrets have a way of bubbling to the surface and they are just doing this.
❤️ I loved reading this series and I highly recommend it. ❤️
I loved this gritty gangland crime thriller, I hadn’t read the previous 2 in the series and it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of this book but I will be getting them asap as the writing is so good. Callie was such a great character I loved her strength it really shone through, the way she took control of her life and determination to make sure her estranged husband gets his comeuppance. No punches held, secrets to find and exploit this book didn’t hold back and it was quite the ride, loved it. A new author to me but I will certainly be reading more
This is the third book in the Frenchurch series about the gangster Gavin Renshaw. In book two we saw the collapse of Gavin’s hope of making big money with a new game. Gavin is now on his uppers hiding out with his enemies daughter while his wife Callie is living life as normal with his business and house all in her name. Gavin was sure he was safe with Callie always doing his bidding, but unfortunately his secret son was a secret too much for Callie to stand by him anymore. This gritty read follows both Gavin and Callie as they try to move forward with their lives but who will come out on top. If you’re into gangland reads then this is a great series for you.
Dirty Secrets by Evie Hunter. Frenchurch Falls Book 3. This was a good read. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I got into this book straight away. I liked the writing style and the story. I read this in two sittings. I couldn't put it down. I wasn't sure how I felt about the characters. Although I know I didn't like Gavin. Although Callie and Darren grew on me. I didn't trust him. Full of action. I do hope there is more to come. Recommend.
I really enjoyed this fast paced, gritty and exciting gangland thriller. The tension builds right from the beginning as Callie negotiates family secrets, betrayal and loyalty. It was certainly a bit of a ride and well worth reading for fans of the genre. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm a big fan of Evie Hunter books; this one was no exception, a well-plotted, gritty gangland thriller—a recommended read.
What a brilliant and gripping read that follows on from the previous books about Callie and Gavin Renfrew. With her husband still in hiding Callie knows it’s only a matter of time before he saunters back into her life expecting her to just welcome him back. However she has scores to settle and that will take mixing and doing deals with some very unsavoury people. With an inner strength and determination she goes in with her eyes wide open prepared to do whatever it takes to seek revenge. She needs to protect herself and to not let Gavin walk all over her ever again. This is gritty, a real page turner and has you hooked from page one. There is nothing predictable about this and the characters are brilliantly portrayed. I thoroughly enjoy Evie Hunter’s books and this is no exception. Gritty but not too graphic they let your imagination fill in the gaps
