It's hard to pick yourself up. It's even harder when someone else is determined to crush you.

The Mooney family is sort of a big deal. As the largest witch family in town, and a coven in our own right, we do our best to keep supernatural peace from our seat in Mooney’s Pub, the family legacy that is also my baby.

Now a smug witch has knocked on my door and threatened to put us out of business. But this rival coven isn’t just opening their own bar. They're up to something that hints at a dark, malignant power draining the city’s supernaturals.

I’m tempted to handle things on my own, wanting to prove my worth after having my life's dream destroyed, but if we don’t find out what evil reigns at The Siren's Last Call, we’ll risk more than one lost life.

It’s up to me, my chaos demon bartender, and the entire Mooney clan to get answers and save our city – and our pub in the process.

Witch Remade is the riveting prequel to The Hour of Witches series.

This is the prequel to the Hour of Witches series. I love Alyssa and Trace, so the prequel focused on Alyssa’s Mooney family coven was something I’ve been looking forward to. I enjoyed getting to see more of Simon before he met Reverie. And oooh, the Firestone Coven is extremely unlikeable and I could not wait for them to get theirs.

I received a free advance copy of this book from the author.

I thought I would start this book in the few minutes I had before tackling some chores. However, no chores were done while I devoured Witch Remade. Instantly relatable, the protagonist, Alyssa, is struggling to overcome her past and establish herself in the present. There is another coven in town with some different ideas, however, and this prequel is all about that situation. The action and tension ramp up as the book proceeds; it is no wonder I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see the rest of the books in this series after such an amazing beginning!

I’ve come to really love this author, and even if I am not a fan of prequels, and I had to read this. I was immediately drawn into this latest tale of Alyssa, Simon, and her family trying to save their friends, their business, and their friends. I felt right away that I knew all the characters as well as if I had known them personally, and that they were all ones I’d love to get to know better. This author has a great talent for that, and I can’t wait to see what comes next in the next book. Wonderfully well-written, engaging, keeps your attention, and a great time, this book is not to be missed! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I enjoyed this first in series book. The characters are interesting and the plot kept me wanting to read more, even made me want to take a trip to Ottawa to see if I can find Mooney’s Pub. I can’t wait to see what is coming next for Alyssa and the rest of her coven!! She shows it is possible to rise above perceived failures to find where you are truly meant to be.

Once you've read this prequel, you, like me, will be shouting, I MUST READ THE ENTIRE SERIES NOW!!! It was THAT good! But am I surprised? No....Krista's writing is THAT GOOD! And guess what? You have the next 3 books already available to buy and read....

So, the story starts with Alyssa and Simon getting Mooney's ready for a grand reopening, with her at the helm. So far, so good. Well, except for the feelings Simon evokes in her, she really wants to, the attraction is off the charts but the combo of their magic is... explosive, and not the corporeal kind, the REAL eruption kind. To make matters worse, Simon has a similar... affliction, he'd be all over Alyssa if he could! Ms Walsh is extremely talented at tapping into the realism of relationships, both the romantic kind and the friendship kind, so tangibly, she has one's emotions churning and crying out at the injustice! I adored Simon, he's not a DEMON demon, you know, all nasty and evil as one would assume a demon to be, he's so sweet and caring and protective and completely yummy! These two could definitely ignite an inferno, and almost do, but realise their strength is in their friendship, their dedication to protect one another and what they have is the real deal, a forever friendship with genuine love behind it.

Alyssa is a great MC, she's a dichotomy of emotions, she's trying to find her place within her family and seeking independence, she's trying to not let the past affect her, she's trying not to act on her impulses and guess what? She's failing on all fronts... initially, that is. I loved how uncertainty filtered through every thought she had, don't we all second guess our actions? Well, Alyssa has more than enough reasons to. She's part of the Mooney family, a strong coven of witches, dominant in Ottawa. She failed in her attempt to be a healer, as her mother is, so she grasps at a chance at redemption, at proving herself. Not to her family, THEY are confident in her ability, she's the one who has doubts. One minute she worries if she can pull it off, the next she literally squares her shoulders in determination. But running a successful bar is her ultimate goal. I felt her every musing, she's so personable, likeable and real. And headstrong. And smart and a heck of a problem solver. When another coven decides to infringe, nah, more oust the Mooney's, it's a team effort to solve this deadly dilemma and boy does Krista inflict real heart stopping moments with her incredible, believable action. My goodness, it really was touch and go for a while, I almost needed "scare goggles" as my grandson would say when watching a scary movie, I wanted to see it, yet dreaded it at the same time. See??? Krista brilliance!

My goodness was it an awesome build up! This author, I might have mentioned, somehow, magically produces magic herself whenever she puts pen to paper. She takes me through her creative contrivance, always leaving me with a desperation for more! Every book of Krista's I've read had me glued to my screen from beginning to end. This was a unique read, this was a read that I alternated sniggering in delight, writhing in angst, scrunching up my face, doing lots of "aww", and thoroughly enjoying every moment of it all! Found family is an entrenched trademark of Krista's and in this book, it's biological family that stands together, supports one another, strengthen each other. What a warm and wonderful family too, all completely diverse characters, different in approach and personality, cleverly delineated. There's intrigue, there's mystery, there's action, there's angst, there's emotional turmoil, secrets and lies, everything I've come to expect and admire about this talented author and this book was just so much fun too!

CW: some violence, anxiety, death, some others

Thank you to the author for the ARC! “Witch Remade” is available now!

We do love a good prequel.

Before a bounty hunter came crashing through her door, Alyssa Mooney was just a regular pub owner. And a witch. And she had a sneaking suspicion that her new competition was up to something shady.

Okay, I loved this look back at Alyssa’s beginnings. We’re dropped in just before her takeover of Mooney’s Pub is complete, and it’s a solid starting point. Our FMC is still a little broken from her failed previous career, and it’s haunting this new chapter in her life. I don’t know if I’d call her burnt out, per se, but she’s definitely struggling, and it’s depicted well.

Naturally the Mooney clan is there, and they’re every bit as fiercely loyal as you’d expect. 10/10 family support system; no notes. Simon also pulls his emotional weight, though this is before he and Alyssa have settled into the dynamic we see later in the series.

Speaking of the later books, I actually recommend reading this book after 1-3. You could probably squeeze it in after book 1, but for full Easter egg-ish enjoyment, I’d vote for after number 3.

As always, a solid plot that keeps you hooked from page one. Bonus points for a lovely little twist and even more points for making sure we got the whole backstory in a reasonable, clearly laid out manner. I’m a sucker for an explanation.

I don’t know what else to say; it’s 160ish pages of delightful urban fantasy escapades. Why are you still here? Go read it.

Absolutely love this new series and world created by Krista Walsh! I fell in love so quickly with the Mooney family and coven - their strong familial bond was so incredible and something that drew me into the story. Their loyalty to one another and how quick they are to defend and have each others backs was so admirable and something I’m sure we all desire in our own lives. I fell in love with Alyssa and her history in change of occupation really struck a chord within me - although she seems to love her current job and is paving her own path in the pub.. it hurts knowing she was forced to change from something she seemed to be passionate about and so good at doing. I am SO EAGER to follow Alyssa and Simon’s story - Alyssa, being a witch, and Simon, being a chaos demon, don’t have compatible magic which makes starting a relationship tricky - but I’m secretly hoping they can somehow make it happen because the little heat we get from them is AMAZING! I need more! I cannot wait to follow Alyssa and the Mooney Clan in more stories/adventures. I absolutely loved this magical world and system that Krista created.

What does a coven do when threatened by another coven? They take the war to them! This is what happens in Krista Walsh's Witch Remade, the prequel to her new series, The Hour of the Witches. Ms. Walsh's newest starts out with a bang while she introduces the reader to the Mooney clan and the supernatural community they will fight to protect. Witch Remade promises to continue the same amazing storytelling we've come to know from Krista's previous books. It is a great beginning and I can't wait to see what comes next.

I loved this little novella to get some background on Alyssa and her family. The Mooney family dynamics was one of my favorite things about the Hour of Witches series so I really enjoyed getting to see more of them! (and the way I Squealed every time Trace was mentioned!) The tension between Alyssa and Simon, knowing how things end up was also kinda fun to read. This was a short fun time where I got to hang out with my friends and family just a little bit more. Loved it!

Just finished Wich Remade Arc, really easy reading, smooth as silk. I enjoyed the “forbidden” sexual tension between Alyssa and Simon. It’s inconvenient but keeps the erotic tension high. Gramps, Mom, Dad along with the siblings and cousins are fun to read also, I can see more adventures from this clan, with Mooney’s Pub at the center of the celebrations.

This was a quick and charming read. I really liked that it takes place in Ottawa and I enjoyed reading about places around the city but in a magical setting. I really want to know more about Simon and his relationship with Alyssa. I thought this was a great introduction to all the characters and the pub and I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes!

A fun book to read, quite lighthearted and interesting.
I'm not normally a huge fan of witch novels, yet thoroughly enjoyed this - I think it was more about personal challenges, family life and physical attraction, than purely magic.
However, I do think that anyone interested in magic or the paranormal would love this intriguing book!

Very much loved this book. First person narrative isn’t usually so well written but Krista does it well. Subtle hints throughout the book but still the outcome isn’t easily guessed. I’m excited to read the next book in the series.

This is the first introductory book in a new series The Hour of Witches. We are introduced to Alyssa Mooney and her family and her friend Simon. We learn about her families magical power and how they protect their magical community from evil doers who want to take over.
I can't wait to see what happens in the next books that will come in this series. Witch Remade was fun and exciting to read and I loved the storyline and all the characters.
So, if you love Magic. Defending your Home and Magical Battles then this book is for you.

If you've read this author's Ghostmaker series, you're already a little familiar with Alyssa Mooney, owner of Mooney's Pub, a home away from home for supernatural folk in Ottawa. If you haven't read Ghostmaker yet, you can jump right in to Alyssa's story, but I do recommend you read Ghostmaker - it's a great series!

This is a quick read full of magic, family, mystery, and more family. I love that Alyssa's very large family is so supportive of her in so many ways. When a new coven moves into Ottawa and one of its members gives Alyssa a few not-so-thinly-veiled threats, she calls the troops in. Can they figure out what's going on before the magical landscape of Ottawa is irrevocably changed? Read to find out!

Witch Remade is the prequel for Krista Walsh's latest series so we get a fully-loaded, no-word-wasted 120 pages of amazing!

It's a new world so there's a lot to get comfortable with. I like the Canadian settings this author uses, just because they are not the run of the mill and I find the 'Canadianess' appealing! The FMC, Alyssa, is part of a big family and the author writes these dynamics incredibly well. There is so much potential for high jinks, banter and genuine family love and support; I hope we get more of the extended Mooney clan.

I liked Simon, Alyssa's would be boyfriend/business partner/chaos demon. He seems like a lovely guy with his own troubles but he and Lys present as a strong, balanced team. There were mentions of his magic going rogue and turning tables into dragons and floors into quicksand! I really want to see that!!

Alyssa has had a bad experience in her first career which has left her with anxiety issues. She explained it as - " Anxiety was my constant companion. I had a bad habit of trying to eliminate it by running into my problems headfirst just to get them sorted... ". I can only hope she builds her confidence and finds her place in the world as the series progresses. She is written as a likeable character with grit, pride in her heritage and determination to do right by her family and community. She is someone I would enjoy spending more time with.

There was a lot of tension in this story from the beginning right through till the end - business and relationship pressures, new rivals and their unknown but harmful magic, political manoeuvring. I've never been disappointed by how Krista paces her stories to keep me fully engrossed in the goings-on, and that was what happened in this story too.

This is a high energy story and sets the scene very well for the rest of the series. A definite recommendation!

Alyssa Mooney is a young witch from a powerful family. Coming off the heels of a "failure" in her previous choice of careers, Alyssa is taking over the family pub with her friend and business partner, Simon. During the renovation, a new coven comes into town and announces the grand opening of their new bar and Mooney's competition - The Siren's Last Call. After several family members and other supernaturals get sick after visiting The Siren's Last Call, Alyssa knows something is wrong and must convince her family to help her get rid of this new coven before it's too late.
Alyssa is a wonderful MC. Although she is young, she is organized, determined, level-headed and ambitious. She has the personality to take over the bar and make it all her own, if only she can let her self-doubt go. And there is no better way to do that than to take down a rival coven and save the city! If only she could tackle her romantic issues as "easily" as she does the invading coven! Every time Alyssa and Simon kiss, sparks fly! Quite literally! With opposing magic, every time they get close to acting on their feelings, their magic goes haywire. But maybe that is just fate telling them they have other things in store!
I love how the magical system works in this story as well! I love that her family can see colors of magic! And that even the mundane can be infused with supernatural magic and be hidden, even from the Mooney's (at least for awhile!). This was an amazing read and the story flowed perfectly! There was never a dull moment and I am excited to read the rest of this series! Krista is one of my auto-buy authors and after this prequel, I know this series will not disappoint!

Interesting fast paced prequel novella with the promise of much more to follow. Alysia is the owner of the Mooney family pub and shows strong characteristics when threatened by the Firestone Coven who owns the Siren's last call. The mystery deepens when people get sick. Alysia is fired up to get behind the tug of the Siren. A vicious magic fight had me panting, but the Mooney family stands together. Simon, her barman and half demon, and Alysia have strong vibes, but his chaos magic and hers is a huge clash. Unfortunately this revised book tell us... Their magic clashes, but I what is lined up for them?? Get a copy asap to be enlightened.
