Burn: Some say love heals all wounds - but this one devours.

Rate this book
You know that old saying, "Love heals all wounds"? Well, whoever said it clearly never met Lex Donnelly or Adian Liberty.

Lex learned at a young age not to believe in second chances. Adrian, on the other hand, learned how critical they can be.

The problem is that he has boundary issues, and she's stubborn as hell.

What do you get when a strong-willed, fiercely independent woman crashes into a controlling, possessive, and obsessive man?

All-consuming, all-devouring fire.

Now they are forced to navigate the wreckage of the fire, quite literally. They're each a loaded weapon in their own regard, and the deeper they fall, the more they risk losing the thing that matters most to each of them.

Lex cannot lose herself.
Adrian cannot lose her.

It's not love, it's survival.

And if they're not careful, it too will be lost to the fire.

This is the sequel to Choke, and it really shouldn't be read without first reading the original. Burn is 120K words, and you're strongly encouraged to check the trigger warnings before diving in!

I read this in one evening. I could not put it down. A great continuation of the Lex and Adrian story. Lots of spicy scenes mixed with amazing storylines. I was captivated the entire time.
Also happy to see there will be more in the series with different characters as the focus. You’re killing it, Meg. I love your writing.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Burn by Meg LaForge
Thank you Meg for the advanced copy of Burn, you know I loved it!!

First of all, if you haven’t read Choke yet, you’re seriously missing out! 💜So, go do that, and then come back and immediately start Burn, when it releases in about a week! 🖤

Burn starts off exactly where Choke left off, and immediately pulls you in. You continue to see two imperfect people figuring out how to make what they have work. It’s messy, and real! Adrian fucking Liberty and Lex are absolutely perfect! But low key, if my friend was into Adrian I’d tell her to run, but for some reason, this book makes me root for him!

I truly loved both characters back stories, and would truly love more! This book is nerve wrecking, heartwarming?, spicy, and full of so much emotion I can’t handle it (in a good way)! I am so excited for this new release, and can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy!

First off I loved choke and have been consumed with anticipation of this book so to be able to read this before release is so exciting!

This book pulled so many emotions, from fear, anxiety, joy, love, need… I probably couldn’t name all the feelings I felt because it was such a rollercoaster. Adrian is everything Id advise a friend to run from, but I am constantly rooting for Lex to run to him throughout the book. I almost wish there was more backstory on both Adrian and Lex in their youth as I loved both of those stories.

I love the character development from Choke to Burn and how they both grew as the book went on. I wish the last chapters were a little more drawn out, I’m not sure if its because it didn’t feel complete or if Im selfish and just wanted more of Adrian and Lex…

“He’s everything,’ my poor heart sobs. ‘He’s dangerous,’ my brain hisses.”

A girlie after my own heart putting those chapters in again at the beginning 🫡🫡

I LOVE the way the chapters are set up, it really made me gobble up the book and not want to stop. All in all this is a beautiful book. The dialogue makes you feel immersed in the story. Knowing things that happened to both Adrian & Lex helps puts things into perspective about why and how things happened in their lives. The ending making my heart sing and eyes tear up. Love is not always perfect, it’s messy and takes a lot of work.

P.s. Not me dying at all the firefighters reaction to Mildred when they rescued her and not knowing what she is 😂

Donovan snorts, glancing at the cat and back to me, “Her? That’s a ‘her?’ Is it supposed to look like that, or did the fire f*ck it up?”

I can’t help but laugh, which makes me cough and wheeze, “Yeah, man. It just looks like that.”

“What should we do with it?” He asks as Harrington approaches us.

Harrington leans down, then rears back, “What the f*ck is that?” He chokes.

Donovan grins broadly, replying “It’s a cat. It just looks like that”

I LOL’d over this cat! She’s my fav

Meg has once again crafted perfection and a true HEA.

Where do I even start?? I need a moment to recover from the emotional rollercoaster that is Lex and Adrian. The push and pull between them had me flipping between heart-racing excitement and pure frustration. The backstory? A masterpiece. Every new detail leaves you wanting more. And Rosie? She needs her own damn book STAT. If she doesn’t get one, I’ll riot. The girl has a story to tell, and I am ready to devour it.

Meg does it again with *Burn*. 5/5 stars? More like 10/5 because I’m OVERWHELMED with all the feels. Seriously, I have no idea how I’m supposed to wait for the next one. Please send help.

I loved reading it! I really think the Millie bits are quite hilarious especially when the guys have her and want to use her to scare the shit out of the others at the base it made me laugh out loud.

I love the friendships, I love their toxic love story, I liked the childhood aspects.

My only criticism is that I wish that there were more flashback chapters that were throughout the entire book, including her mom and whatever happened to his dad.

You know you reeeeally shouldn't root for them. You know she should run away as fast as possible. Yet here I am, licking up every ounce of toxicity.

Meg has written some of the most relatable characters of any book I've read. Turns out I have about 7 personalities, and they are each a character in this book.

The imagery she paints with words is honestly impeccable. You feel like you're part of the nightmare, the chaos. You see every single inch of skin she so thoroughly describes.

It's deliciously hot.
It's emotional chaos.
It's so beautifully fucked up.

The perfect ending to a riveting series. It's amazing how Adrian made some mistakes that I would typically be like, "Eek, run girl. Run," but the whole time, I still found myself rooting for him. Rooting for him to be better and for Lex to forgive him. I love this book couple, and it's even more inspiring to know that they actually exist. Love isn't dead 🙏 Thank you, Meg!

YES. YES! YESSSS!!!

ADRIAN FUCKING LIBERTY!!!

Adrian Liberty is the book boyfriend I didn’t know I needed until I found him. This man can do no wrong in my eyes… 👀
I must have read these books wearing rose-coloured glasses, because I didn’t see any red flags 🚩 in this man’s behaviour! (All jokes obviously- but this man is just… *chefs kiss*!)

If you are interested in:

• Smokin’ hot firefighters 🚒
• Hockey players with nice butts 🍑
• Books that come with a menu (a.k.a. A content/ trigger warning list) 📖
• ‘Touch-her-and-die’ attitude from the MMC ☠️
• And deliciously satisfying spicy scenes 🌶️🥵💦

…then this book (and its accompanying first book of the series/duet) is for you!!!

So happy I stumbled across both of these books the other night! (When I found them and looked them up in the kindle store, they were only $0.99 to buy! However they are both also available on KU as well.)

*Side note: this book more than makes up for anything that was lacking from the previous book!! Just gotta put that out there! This was a noticeable improvement on the authors behalf from the previous book to this one. And I mean that in the best way, as the highest compliment. You can very clearly tell by all the hard work and dedication that went into making this book that she put her heart and soul into it. It very clearly shows in the finished product of this book. All around, an amazing job! 👏🏻

This was just as captivating as the first and I actually gasped a few times while reading. The spice again 👌🏻 The character transformations were fun to see and isn’t it every girls dream to tame the beast. It’s still very dark at times, so if you aren’t a dark romance reader please don’t read this and then give it a shitty review because you can’t handle it 🤪 but if you are, then you need to read this series!!
A handful of sentences felt repetitive but other than I have no feedback on the writing.

“I’m fucking trying, but if you want the bad guy, I’ll gladly play the villain in your story.” I tremble. He stands to his full height and reaches for my face. His grip is gentle as he runs his thumb across my bottom lip, his gaze dropping to watch the movement. “But, remember, you asked for this. Standing here in my fucking shirt, in my fucking house, you asked for my darkness, and I’m all too happy to oblige.”

Never been a religious man, but if there is a god, then he did top-tier work in building me a woman, because this couldn’t be more perfect.

Burn by Meg Laforge picks up exactly where I needed it to with more Lex and Adrian. If Choke had me hooked, Burn completely wrecked me (in the best way). The chemistry? Still electric. The tension? Off the charts. And the emotional depth this time? Even better.

Meg Laforge really delivered on the continuation of their story. We got more answers, more backstory, and more of the chaos that makes these two so addictively readable. The smut, once again, did not miss, but what hit hardest were the quieter moments: the healing, the raw vulnerability, and the feeling that despite everything, these two were always going to find their way back.

If you loved Choke, Burn is the payoff you were waiting for.

I was so disappointed with the ending of this book! I loved Choke and read through it so fast so I was hoping Burn would be just as good but found it lacking. I thought there would be a little more depth into Adrian and Lex actually getting to know each other but it was very superficial. What really killed it for me was the epilogue where Lex announces her pregnancy. Ugh. It would’ve been so much better to end their story without it. Pregnancy doesn’t always make the story a happy ending. I purposely avoid pregnancy/single mom or dad tropes so having that at the end of a duet I actually liked ruined it for me.

I wasn’t expecting Burn to turn into such a mushy love story—not in a bad way, just softer than I anticipated! That said, I genuinely enjoyed it. The story kept me hooked, and I found myself craving even more of the characters’ backstories.

One line that stuck with me:
“He’s everything, my poor heart sobs. He’s dangerous, my brain hisses.”
It perfectly captures the emotional tug-of-war this story delivers.

Meg Laforge writes with heart and beauty. I’m so thankful I got the chance to read this. Meg, you should be damn proud of yourself—you’ve created something really special.

If you love your romance with a side of darkness and a whole lot of heat, Burn delivers in spades. The second in its series, this book brings together two beautifully broken, imperfect people who somehow manage to become each other’s salvation. It’s raw, intense, and tender in the most unexpected moments. The love story is shadowed by pain and past mistakes, but those flickers of light they bring to one another's darkness? Pure magic. And yes — the smut is chef's kiss level lovely. A worthy, addictive follow-up from this talented author. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

If Choke was a roller coaster, Burn was the whole amusement park because it’s an even more wild ride. A beautiful real love story that proves everyone deserves love and their own version of a happy ending! I love these two fucked up souls and I’m so glad they found each other. Fantastic writing that flows, so easy to read and get lost in the world. And the SPICE 🥵 girl knows how to write a sex scene that is for sure. Obsessed is an understatement. Gonna think about this one for a while!

“If nothing else, the guy is tenacious and he’ll burn the world for you, if you’ll let him.” 🔥❤️

Burn totally lived up to its name—I flew through those short chapters like my Kindle was on fire. Lovable characters, a plot that hooks, and for her second novel? Color me impressed. Meg’s not just writing books, she’s lighting them up.

The pacing? Perfect.
The drama? Delicious.
The writing? Chef’s kiss.

But also, I want to throat punch whoever Aaron is.

Lastly - that nurse Taylor character flirting with Adrian. Dead

So many emotions as I read Burn. After reading Choke, I could not wait to continue Lex and Adrian’s story and Burn did not disappoint. Theirs is such a raw, passionate love story. As unhinged at their relationship is, you’re a little envious of how powerful the draw between the characters really is.

I loved learning more about Lex and Adrian. Excellent character development. Oh and let’s not forget if you like spicy, Burn has just what you’re looking for!

Meg!! God damn it!! I loved this book so much, so much more than Choke. This was a rollercoaster of everything you want and need. I adore the fact I see your life on Instagram and know bits and pieces of your love story. I can’t wait to read more of your books. I absolutely loved this, I truly have no words. The ending stole my heart and ran away with it! Just the right about of spice and dirty and then lovey dubby silliness at the end. 🖤 forever thankful for being a cliterature girly

I absolutely LOVED this book! I couldn’t deal with the cliffhanger of choke, and as soon as I was given the opportunity to pick up where I left off (in withdrawal of course), I did! I couldn’t put this book down. I felt so many feels throughout this book, and it turned out the way I’d hoped for them. My kinda book!
