One Liner: Fast-paced

Kat, a 34-year-old, wants to get married before she hits 35 and is devastated when her fiancé dumps her for a 21-year-old life coach.

Freddy is a ruthless marketing guru, confident that he can sell anything, and thinks love is transactional. He promises to make Kat the most sought-after woman in London if she allows him to buy her struggling company.

Thus begins Project Marriage. Only time will tell if Freddy can keep his promises or if love will surprise them both.

The story comes in Kat’s first-person POV and Freddy’s third-person POV.

My thoughts:

I heard great things about the author’s (Probably) The Greatest Love Story Ever Told and had high expectations from this one. Guess that affected my reading experience a bit.

The book has a terrific pace. No denying that. Also, it will keep you hooked from start to finish. I read it in one sitting (and stayed awake longer than I do).

The dual POV, with one in the third-person, is a wonderful choice. Not only do we get both their perspectives, but we also have no confusion about the voice.

Another plus point is that the FMC has Multiple Sclerosis. Relapsing-Remitting MS, to be precise. She can do anything on a good day, but stress and anxiety can screw it up in a few minutes. Living with MS is not easy, and we see clearly how it affects a person physically, psychologically, and emotionally. It has been seamlessly integrated into the plot.

Let’s just say that my liking and disliking of the MCs was like a Sine wave. As the story progresses, more aspects come to light. What we see at the beginning is not what it is. However, what we see in the next few chapters is also not what it is.

The FMC is a total despo. Cringe-level max. But this is deliberate characterization. Readers are not expected to agree with her always. Rather, we are to see her strengths and flaws and hope that the bulb will ding over her head and enlighten her. It won’t be easy liking her when you want to knock sense into that brain and wonder just how naïve someone of that age can be.

The MMC is okay. Shows promise and stays true to his arc, which means he will also annoy us quite a bit. It’s almost like a contest – who will exasperate the reader more, lol! This should have made me dislike the book, but it had the opposite effect since it was done intentionally.

There’s a QR code in the last quarter for those who want open-door spice. The author got 50-50 votes on whether to include spice in the book. So, she inserted it as an optional choice (kya kya karna padta hai, to keep all readers happy). Of course, I read it, but later, after finishing the book. There’s also an option to sign up and get a bonus epilogue. You know I can’t resist an epilogue!

There are some funny moments too. Despite everything, I can’t say I enjoyed this a lot. It was fun and interesting, but that’s it. I wouldn’t sing praises about it, though.

Maybe if the backstories were a bit more detailed or the characters (especially the FMC) spent more time introspecting the toxic patterns in her life, it would have worked better. That would have changed the genre from rom-com to rom, but methinks it’s worth a shot.

To summarize, Love or Your Money Back is a quick and lighthearted read with some heavy themes that don’t weigh down the plot or narration. It should work as a beach read or an autumn afternoon read.

Thank you, Rachel’s Random Resources and the author, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

4.5*

Kat is stuck a rut, she covers up for her rabble of a team, she goes for the same sort of douche bag… or rather the same douche bag as a life partner, she’s not bought new clothes in years … she’s going to need a miracle if she wants to be married by the time she turns 35 which is literally weeks away!

Enter Freddy a self confident (slightly arrogant) marketing expert who Kat takes an instant dislike to! This is going to be interesting!!! Can Freddy win Kat around to take his advice?! This pairing are like chalk and cheese but as they get to know each other, things are quite they seem on face value.

I was swept up in Freddy’s valiant attempts to rebrand Kat, her reluctance to embrace his requests but oh some of the results – hilarious. The trip to the fashion editor, the office move, Ascot… just everything. It was wholeheartedly entertaining to watch, well read from the sidelines.

This is a glorious read. Cast members going on their own journeys of self discovery and improvement. I have to agree with the likening to My Fair Lady (I watched that film a few times as a child not that I remember the ending). I’ve enjoyed Quinn’s novels before, both her light hearted rom coms and her darker thrillers. Love Or Your Money Back is no exception. Loved it!

I want to start this review by saying how much I ADORE Suzy, she is an outstanding writer, I have loved every book of hers! She is my absolute favourite author 😍 she takes the time to reply to comments and interacts with readers in ways not all authors do 🥰 Getting a happy birthday from your favourite author is one of the best feelings ever 🥰

Now for the book!

It didn't take me long to finish at all, I was hooked from the get go! As someone who deals with pain on a daily basis with my Fibro, it was really great to be able to relate to a book in a different way than I usually do! The struggles that come with dealing with pain but still having to carry on because you don't have a choice!

It was lovely to see how Kat progressed from not wanting to ask for help and get the pity treatment, to actually accepting that it was okay to need others! And Freddy's change of heart too 😍

Another really great addition to this book was the option to read the spicy scene via a QR code, some people aren't that big on reading those kind of scenes, me... Of course I am so I went straight to the code 🤣 just another way that Suzy really does care about her readers!

If the ratings went higher than 5 ⭐ then this would absolutely be more!

Anyone that hasn't read any of her books yet really should!

Kat and Freddy . . .

The goal of this story is to consider marketing as a means of finding love. In this situation, Kat will hire a marketing expert, Freddy, to help her get married before her 35th birthday. This could be the perfect shopping trip… or a budding disaster, depending on how well Freddy can “sell” his services to the recently dumped Kat. Grab your copy and enjoy the ride as these two test out a theory that Freddy is sure will satisfy his client…

Kat is running out of time to reach her marriage goal. She turns 35 at her next birthday and just got dumped by her fiancé Chris who instead chose a 21-year-old life coach. So Freddy, a ruthless marketing guru, is ready to step up. After all, “love” is merely a transactional interaction and the right marketing tools can sell anything. He can make Kat the most sought-after woman London has ever produced, certain to achieve marriage this time, in return for letting him buy out her struggling company and raise it up beyond success. Will he succeed in selling the lucky lady’s heart? Or is love a bit more complicated than clever marketing?

Kat is 34 and has her own publishing company, which wins awards, but is not a commercial success. She wants to have a partner in life and a family, but winning in love is not as easy as having a successful career. When Freddy buys an interest in her company, his views are an antithesis to Kat's, and she resists his changes. Until he makes her offer, she can't refuse. Is love just like any other commodity or service, something that is achievable if the person is marketed right? Freddy thinks it is. Kat isn't so sure, but she's desperate and takes a chance on Freddy and his marketing expertise. It's a lighthearted, well-paced story with complex characters that you believe in. Kat has many facets; she is ethical and sometimes opinionated, but her motives are pure. She also faces constant health battles, which make life challenging. I invested in Kat. Freddy appears to be living the dream, but he has hidden depths that make him worthy of Kat. I enjoyed the couple's banter, Kat's self-deprecating humour and the romance.

Kat is the 50% owner of a small publishing firm in London. Her life is in an upheaval because the man she dated for 7 years is marrying a 20-year-old. She meets Freddy, a millionaire who has purchased 50% of her company and wants to upgrade everything from her coffee machine to the office's location. Kat and Freddy clash at every turn until they don't. Great story with a lot of clever, funny dialogue.

Love isn't fairy tail.
All is fair in sales.
Marriage with a lifetime guarantee.
And - nothing is impossible with good marketing.

Loved this book so much. 3 "P" approach and you can marry out her to any millionaire. Unless you want to keep it.
It was so funny, entertaining and you can't put it down. It is well written. Enjoyed it so much.
One the best I read this year.

I won an e-copy in a Goodreads giveaway.

The premise was fun and had potential, but I struggled to connect with the main characters. Freddy came off as unlikable or hard to root for especially since he doesn't really change his views though he's falling in love with Kat. While there were moments of sharp humor, the story didn’t fully land for me. A quick read, but not as engaging as I’d hoped.

Another reader commented "I want to start this review by saying how much I ADORE Suzy, she is an outstanding writer, I have loved every book of hers!" - and was what I was thinking while reading & finishing yet another book by an amazing author! Another romantic comedy light hearted read despite the intense emotions and characters. Emotional but fun and uplifting all at the same time - nothing should stop you in this crazy world!

Suzy K. Quinn delivers a spirited tale of transformation, self-worth, and the commercialization of romance. With a clever premise and emotional depth, the novel offers plenty of sparkle, though not without moments that may divide opinion. I enjoyed the witty banter of the writer and equally the warm ideal. Recommended.

Okay

It's a bit of a stretch to compare this to Emily Henry. It's an okay story but not comparable in terms of humour or emotion. I might have cracked a couple of smiles but definitely didn't laugh. The best part of the story was the last chapter.

Couldn't put it down!

I have read so many romance books over the last year and most of them seem to keep repeating the same story, just with different characters. Everything about this story was unique and refreshing, I couldn't put it down...thank you!

Quinn's Bad Mother's series will always remain one of my absolute favourites. Love Or Your Money Back comes in at a close second...

It's a pacey read and I quickly became addicted to the story. I've never come across a romance like it before...can you REALLY market love?

There are two great characters at the helm...Kat our hapless heroine and millionaire Freddy...their repartee was gold!

Such a fun read!

A fun read!

This is a well written story with quirky characters that make it a fun read and difficult to put down (housework can wait!). Deducted 1 star because there is one short gratuitous sexy scene that was not needed; I prefer closed door romance.

surprisingly funny and hopeful!

Almost a parody but not quite. Extreme characters but almost believable after knowing their backgrounds and disappointments! I enjoyed the trip! In general very upbeat I look forward to. Her next book!
