In this sequel to the Galactic Hellcats, sex-positive robot Andrei teams up with the space biker gang to rescue his robot sister, kidnapped by the evil queen for helping aid the Hellcats in book one. Heists, hijinks on exotic new planets and a worker rebellion ensue.
"Andrei and the Hellcats has all the tenderness a sex robot should lack, all the warmth that space promises to steal, and all the trust an adventure can abuse and then reward. A no-brakes thrill ride for your heart." – Meg Elison, author of Number One Fan

This is a sequel to Galactic Hellcats. Both books are far-future SF with feisty characters, found-family, humor and heart. I raced through this and especially enjoyed the many sections narrated by Andrei, a fashion-conscious sexy android. Indeed I believe I could happily read a whole set of novels narrated by Andrei. Ki and Margot were also favorite characters.
I was also delighted by the utopian attitude of one of the planets the gang visited, which provided a happier contrast to the grim planet later on (where workers are effectively badly-treated prisoners).
The ending felt a little rushed to me, but maybe I just wanted more time with these characters. Fingers crossed for a third book!
Four out of five couture stars.
About my reviews: I try to review every book I read, including those that I don't end up enjoying. The reviews are not scholarly, but just indicate my reaction as a reader, reading being my addiction. I am miserly with 5-star reviews; 4 stars means I liked a book very much; 3 stars means I liked it; 2 stars means I didn't like it (though often the 2-star books are very popular with other readers and/or are by authors whose other work I've loved).
Not many things make me happier than an intricate heist. And who doesn’t want their own space motorcycle? Marie Vibbert’s new novel, Andrei and the Hellcats, delivers so many of my favorite things—fast and crazy action, characters that are by turns goofy and brilliant, and an anti-authoritarian subculture that warms my punk heart.
The story’s point of view rotates among all the characters, building tension while deepening the reader’s understanding of key relationships. Once the story gets going, it is a non-stop thrill-ride with just enough underlying danger to make the high points sing. I found myself smiling throughout the book, and laughed out loud several times.
Andrei is a sequel to Galactic Hellcats, but this new novel easily stands on its own. I bet you’ll want to read them both.
“Could we go a week without someone picking at their tracker?”
Explosive implants can be funny.
Actually, pretty much anything can be funny in Vibbert’s universe. Andrei and the Hellcats is the follow on from a first book that I hadn’t read, didn’t need to, but am definitely going to.
You know those TV series you watch because there is something about that particular group of characters together which is like your most messed up mates all out on the same night? Like The Good Place or Brooklyn Nine-Nine? That’s Andrei and the Hellcats. Read it - it’s fun.
I didn't think it was possible, but Marie's writing is getting stronger! I felt even more engrossed in the Hellcats' universe than the first book. A symphonic balance of geeky sci-fi with humor and characters that feel like your childhood tulpas, I couldn't put this book down. Personally I wished for a little bit more of Ki's persceptive (bc I share Andrei's opinion: she's my fave!), but honestly, the book is well-balanced the way it is. I'm already hankering for book 3 and what satisfying (and well-deserved) takedowns it may bring!
This book is refreshing and so much fun. I read the Galactic Hellcats and did not want to leave these awesome characters, so I was excited to see the sequel. I adored the perspective of Andrei- he kept everything fun and light but moving quickly. I can’t wait to read the next one and I’m already missing Andrei, Autumn, and the Hellcats. I need more glimpses into Marie Vibbert’s galactic world building and I love being with the rebels who are taking down the bad, especially in corrupt governments, whether intentionally or accidentally. SO. MUCH. FUN.
A great read. It was so much fun following Andrei through this adventure.
This book was just as good, if not better, than the first Galactic Hellcats. It's a direct continuation, so touched on the same topics of physical abuse, sexism, and self-determination, while adding depth and complexity to Vibbert's universe.
There is a subtle sapphic romance side-quest, but by no means is romance a major plot point.
