The world could not escape this misfortune that came out of the blue, so the System is still providing its inhabitants with entertainment. In addition to developing and constantly introducing new possibilities for the inhabitants of the planet, the System is also trying to complicate their lives. Who knows why that is? Maybe that's how some higher power is trying to make the survivors move forward, to become stronger and smarter. And to mobilize all their strength and forget about their boring and meaningless old lives.
As for Kasp . . . Kasp just wants peace and quiet. Maybe that's why the System chose him as the leader of a settlement and gave him a whole host of responsibilities.
But he is also a Ghost, so . . . No, he's not going to do that. He's going to vanish into thin air and fly away, leaving all that routine stuff for someone else to do. And do actually interesting things instead.
The series started strong, but now it seems to be meandering all over.
If you're at book four like myself you obviously like the story overall. And I also agree that overall it's fun. However this book started so slow, and meanders around with really no point. The goals overall of the main character are undefined even though in his inner dialogue, he over explains every situation he seems to be in, or will be in, or has been in. With the gaps in time of the books being released in the series, you really lose the flow of the story. I really wasn't that interested and had to force my way through this really out of curiosity where it was going. But it's getting harder and harder to care.
I received a review copy of this book. Well, looks like our main character is getting some real life experience now. Lots of things happen in this one, but can't say more w/o spoiling it. Interesting to see where this one goes, though I'm not sure I like where it looks like it's heading. Would be nice if they'd stop calling his favorite weapon a slungshot, since it's a slingshot, and although that irritates the **** out of me everytime I see that, it's a personal hangup, and it's likely most readers won't care about that. Other than that minor irritant, the story progresses well, we find new friends, create new allies (not always in a friendly manner), and of course, grow his holdings. It's a pretty good installment in the storyline, and despite some of the things happening, I'll more than likely read more books in the series.
I would have preferred more town building. Kasp 's irrational sociophobic behaviour is irritating. It is funny that all the females are supposed to desire him that badly given how he treats them.
Criticism and comments
The tower defense scene was way too long for my taste.
This series keeps getting better and better. The settlement is being built up slowly and is looking much better. Kasp is getting things done and is collecting many crystals.
