Did Not Finish
July 1, 2026This one wasn't for me. There's nothing wrong with the book, and the writing was pretty good. I actually really enjoyed the first 10-20%, but from there on I figured I won't enjoy the rest of the book.
I expected something else, and what I got isn't really my cup of tea. The plot isn't bad, just not something I like to read about. Which has nothing to do with the dark romance or knife play aspect—in fact, this was pretty much the only thing I did enjoy.
I liked the main characters and found their past interesting, but I didn't feel much chemistry between them. It was all pretty rushed and I didn't find their relationship believable.
In the end I decided to dnf at about 80%. It's not the book, it's me. The reason I kept listening is the narrator; he did a great performance. Although I liked the characters and the writing, I wasn't entertained by the story itself.

I was looking forward to this one, and overall I enjoyed it.
Lorenzo was in the first book as Luka's best friend, basically, and he was small and pretty but fierce and deadly.
When he was just 7, the South American Director of the Pantheon, Dionysus, 'bought' Lorenzo from a human trafficking ring to bring him into the Pantheon to be trained to be a killer. With him the day Lorenzo was 'bought' and given the name was Rafael, his 11 year old son. That day, Lorenzo bit Rafael, marking him forever.
20 or so years later, they meet again in the craziest of ways. While Dionysus was off doing his stuff, Rafael was practically taken in by the church and raised to be a priest. Only now Lorenzo is there to kill Rafael's mentor - who it turns out was not as good as he seemed, of course - but then before the. man dies completely he presents Lorenzo with a Judas coin (a coin that can never be ignored or rejected and has to be carried out).
It turns out the one who put the hit out on the priest was Dionysus, and the man was basically as close to a father as Lorenzo could ever have. And he and Rafael meet again for the first time right after he's killed the priest, and they fight. Lorenzo gets away, but not for long.
There's a true hatred there at first for Lorenzo from Rafael, as Rafael was close to his mentor and doesn't know the dirty deeds the man did. Then he and Lorenzo meet on neutral ground, but Rafael stabs Lorenzo for what he did.
And then after all that is resolved, a few days later Lorenzo has to go and kill Dionysus, who already knows what is coming and is prepared for it. Rafael has his own complicated relationship with his father, mainly negative, and wants to hurt him and kill him himself, but Lorenzo does it and so there is that fact...at the end of the day, his father is dead and Lorenzo did it.
But there's attraction and want between them anyway. A connection that can't be ignored.
And when it turns out a high figure among the church has fucked Rafael over - because he dared to question if the priest Lorenzo killed was truly bad - and Rafael had to kill the men holding him to stop from being executed, the church AND the Pantheon are after both him and Lorenzo.
Because while Lorenzo couldn't ignore the Judas coin, it is also punishable to kill a Director at the same time.
They both seem between a rock and a hard place, and have to go on the run together, barely getting a few moments to breathe before they're fighting for their lives at every turn.
And the man in the middle of all of it (who we find out is a much bigger player than he seems at first) is after them, never letting up.
The only way out of it is if Lorenzo can get three Director coins from directors themselves, and with those he can challenge the man chasing them to a trial by combat and if they win, if they make it out alive and having killed the man after them...THEN any charges against Lorenzo and Rafael could be dropped and they'd be free...
They just have to go through absolute hell before their HEA can happen. I tagged HFN, because it's only a few months after the main events at the end so they're only a bit into a relationship, but it was a pretty strong HFN. The plot, though, is still left open ended. They all have to still deal with this mysterious Zeus figure, whoever it is (I'd love if it turned out to be someone they all know that we've gotten to know in these books...i just don't know who that'd be at all if the author decides to do that juicy of a twist).
So I felt it fitting to tag this HFN even if it's pretty dang close to a HEA.
My only reason for a star off is that...well, this was slow for a long while. While I liked these two, they weren't grabbing my attention and adoration. I did eventually come to love them, but that was near the end when it got good and fast paced and really interesting.
I don't know, the plot was all well and good - until it got real good near the end - but it wasn't super exciting all the time and these two just didn't have a whole lot of time to breathe and get to know each other and really fall in love in a way that felt truly authentic.
I was immersed in these two as a couple by the end, but it took a long while to get there for me.
Like at least with Luka and Vincent, they had days and days in the neutral ground place to get to know each other and have some time to breathe before things ramped up.
These two didn't have that option for several reasons I won't get too into to avoid spoiling much.
So they were just constantly on the run, and....I'm blanking on the names of the two guys who were also in the first book who will be the MCs of the next book. But they're in this a lot, on the journey with these two for a lot of it, so they're not alone a lot of the time as well...
It just wasn't always riveting and it took a while for me to connect with these two as a couple.
But it did eventually really pick up and the last 40% or so of this I really read a lot faster than the first 60% of it.
I still recommend this, it was still solid overall and very enjoyable and there was chemistry. Lorenzo and Rafael had me by the end too, I was feeling the feelings between them when their lives were on the line but they had to work together. The climax was so tense but so well written.
So yeah, this wasn't perfect, but still pretty good overall. I will definitely be tuning into the next book whenever we get it.

MAS -TER - PIECE!! I didn’t think this world could get any better after book 1 which was epic but boy am I happy to be wrong. This is the best example of a delicious dark romance done fantastically well - addictive characters, edge of your seat plot twists, layers of agendas unravelling and unveiling, morally grey lines becoming easy to cross, epic toxic codependent love, smidge of new kink unlocked and massive amounts of action and fast paced gripping story telling.
Can you tell I loved it!!
From that first meeting Lorezo and Rafael are bound! And when they next meet it’s a dance to the death. Want enemies to lovers, want to kill and hump each other at the same time. I digress
Here is what the author promises: “we're dealing with religious trauma, violence that'll make you wince, and two men who literally try to kill each other before falling in love. The chemistry is scorching, but it's wrapped in blood, blasphemy, and more moral ambiguity than you can shake a rosary at.” Rest assured they deliver big time. Not to mention epic world building, lore and traditions, good vs evil, the underworld and the Vatican. Phenomenal.
I could not put this book down, I loved the adventure the invincibility of the MCs despite the hurt and pain, the deeper dive into Zeus, loved Jasper and Diego can’t wait for the next book. The prose is perfection full of drama and gravity and absolutely setting the perfect stage for this action packed tale that is also extreamly, extreamly scorching hot. These two have chemistry (and repressed stamina) for days!
Highly recommend giving it a read, check the trigger warnings and if they work for you buckle up!

I was super invested in the action vs. the romance, which is weird since the first book balanced both better to me. I adore Lo, but I didn’t feel that much chemistry between him and Rafael. Also, these two love biting, marking, and blood play lol.

This was pure action from start to finish, with no breath between the chase. Because of that, the relationship between Rafael and Lorenzo felt a little bit rushed and very lust-heavy. Buut they started their relationship with almost killing each other so what do I know? 😂 I did like them at the end. I did however missed some of the comedy from the first book, but did understand why it wasn't so much here.
I also love the story in these books, I always love Greek mythology and Religion together.
I'm excited for Deathless, where we will follow Jasper and Diego and from what I have read, it will be a very different book from Ruthless and Godless.
Also, calling someones dick "holy rod" when said person is a priest... too funny for me 🤣

This is a dark, MM, assassin x priest, with enemies to lovers between Lorenzo and Rafael with an absolute killer of a story that you can totally immerse yourself in. I’m absolutely loving being in this world, with these dark and complex characters. Now that I’ve discovered L’s books, I will be back for more!!
L’s writing is so well done, and their storytelling is extremely well thought out with so much attention to detail. I was totally blown away, and from start to finish I was enraptured. Lorenzo and Rafael’s dynamic intrigued me, and I was hooked on their banter. Lorenzo lives to get Rafael’s skin and I’m so here for his antics. 😂😂
Ryan Stone performed in single narration for this book, and I have to say.. he’s juggling so many characters and personalities, and he pulled it off big time! He did an amazing job of highlighting characteristics with his voice acting and hats off to him cause there’s so much going on in this world and he managed to balance it all. Kudos for sure to Ryan!!

This amazingly dark series started off the Luka and Vincent's book, their story introduced us to this world full of crimes, assassins, judges, and juries. In Rafael and Lorenzo's story we get more of a look behind the curtain of both the Pantheon corporation and the Church. Both awful in their own rights but one way worse than the other..
It's so difficult to write this review without giving away spoilers but I'm going to try my best here. Lorenzo and Rafael are most comparable to oil and water, they aren't supposed to mix. These two were at each other's throats, quite literally I might add, for a good portion of this story. Which considering everything they've been through, all the things they've experienced at the hands of those who tried to control them, is understandable. My favorite part was when these two exposed their soft underbelly's to each other after 'hating' one another for so long. That was the crucial moment in their dynamic in my opinion.
These two men did not have an easy road, and while they DO end up together, their fight is far from over. We learned who else Zeus was working with, but we still don't know who Zeus is, or why he's so determined to destroy certain people over others. There's still quite a bit of mysteries yet to solve and I'm very eager to continue reading this series. Yes, it is a dark series, this book especially so, but it is so much more than being dark romance. There are nuances to this series, as well as having significant messages within the pages too. I really am quite intrigued by this series and I'm so excited to see who's story we get next.

Ryan Stone absolutely shows out in this audiobook. This is a single‑narrator production, but it genuinely sounds like a full multicast. He shifts accents, tones, and emotional weight so naturally that every character feels distinct. Even the animals have presence. I kept checking the credits because there is no reason one man should be able to do all this.
He doesn’t just narrate Lorenzo and Rafael he embodies them. The tension hits harder. The violence feels sharper. The longing feels dangerous.
The book is strong, but the audio takes it to a completely different level.
📘 Plot
Rafael is a priest raised by some very unsavory people. He loves his father, but he never wanted to become the man his father was. So he builds a life around faith and service, believing he’s doing good… but the deeper you go, the more you realize he might not be serving God at all.
Lorenzo, on the other hand, grew up in a cage. He was bought, trained, and shaped into a weapon. He follows orders because that’s all he’s ever known.
When their worlds collide, everything blows up their beliefs, their loyalties, and every lie they were raised to trust.
💭 My Thoughts
I absolutely loved this. For me, this book reads like a cautionary tale about blindly following orders about having absolute certainty in what you’re told to do, never questioning the source, and mistaking obedience for control. Both Rafael and Lorenzo think they’re doing the right thing. Both believe they’re protecting the people they’re supposed to protect. And both of them are completely wrong.
The plot is genuinely interesting, and the suspense is what hooked me. I’m not usually a dark‑romance reader, but this one worked for me because the tension stays high from start to finish. These two spend half the book running from bullets, dodging danger, and being chased by people who want them dead and somehow still find time for humor and banter, which I loved.
The heat is definitely there, but what really stood out to me is how plot‑driven this story is. The action keeps the book moving, the emotional stakes stay high, and the relationship feels layered in a way that fits the darkness of the world they’re in.
This is the second book in the Ferryman series, and while it works as an interconnected standalone, I can absolutely see the threads that make me want to go back and read book one and continue on to book three. It’s na happy‑for‑now ending, but I’m invested enough that I need to know what happens next.
Dark, dangerous, suspenseful, and unexpectedly addictive I’ll be continuing the series.

💭 My Thoughts
I absolutely loved this. For me, this book reads like a cautionary tale about blindly following orders about having absolute certainty in what you’re told to do, never questioning the source, and mistaking obedience for control. Both Rafael and Lorenzo think they’re doing the right thing. Both believe they’re protecting the people they’re supposed to protect. And both of them are completely wrong.
The plot is genuinely interesting, and the suspense is what hooked me. I’m not usually a dark‑romance reader, but this one worked for me because the tension stays high from start to finish. These two spend half the book running from bullets, dodging danger, and being chased by people who want them dead and somehow still find time for humor and banter, which I loved.
The heat is definitely there, but what really stood out to me is how plot‑driven this story is. The action keeps the book moving, the emotional stakes stay high, and the relationship feels layered in a way that fits the darkness of the world they’re in.
This is the second book in the Ferryman series, and while it works as an interconnected standalone, I can absolutely see the threads that make me want to go back and read book one and continue on to book three. It’s na happy‑for‑now ending, but I’m invested enough that I need to know what happens next.
Dark, dangerous, suspenseful, and unexpectedly addictive I’ll be continuing the series.

Overall, I had a really fun time with this read. I always love an MM romance, but I do have a few thoughts for improvement.
I wish there had been more tension and buildup between Rafael and Lorenzo, especially considering Rafael’s chosen life path and how forbidden their relationship is. He gives in to his feelings almost immediately, and it didn’t feel entirely believable for his character. I wanted to see more of an initial internal battle before he acted on his attraction, especially since he continues wrestling with those feelings throughout the rest of the book.
I really liked them together, and the chemistry was definitely there, but the emotional progression moved a little too quickly for me. It felt like they shared some tension, acted on their attraction, and then suddenly cared deeply about each other as if they were already in love. I could’ve bought that if they’d spent significant time together as children, but they only met once before being separated for years. Because of that, their level of devotion didn’t quite feel earned yet.
Ryan did a good job with the audiobook narration overall, but I occasionally found myself confused about whose POV I was listening to and, at times, who was who. I think part of that was because the voices weren’t distinct enough from one another, but I also think the writing itself contributed to my confusion.
As the story went on, I started feeling like Rafael and Lorenzo’s personalities were blending together. Some of the traits and actions that I thought made sense for Lorenzo ended up belonging to Rafael instead. Rafael has spent his entire adult life as a priest, yet once they’re in the labyrinth, he’s suddenly the one taking charge and leading the way through dangerous situations. Meanwhile, Lorenzo, who was literally raised to survive, fight, and kill, is often following his lead. That dynamic felt backwards to me. On top of that, Rafael had only recently been struggling to function after losing an eye, so seeing him suddenly running through the labyrinth and navigating it with little difficulty felt inconsistent.
Even with those moments of confusion, I was never bored. There was always something happening, and the plot kept me wanting to know what would come next. The story balanced darker moments with some genuinely funny ones, “God protects you… fire helps.” absolutely made me laugh.
Overall, I had a great time with this despite my frustrations. I think it could’ve benefited from one more round of edits to strengthen the romantic buildup, make the character motivations a little clearer, and smooth out some of the inconsistencies. But even with those complaints, I was thoroughly entertained and will definitely be continuing the series.

This is a 4.25 for me. I love the way the author writes the relationships of their characters. They are usually balance one another out as opposites or sometimes they are just what the person needs. With this couple their relationship and the start of it just felt raw and real for the characters. There was honesty and truthfulness from the start and ego and secrets didn't come into play to build up tension between the characters, and it was something I really enjoyed, and it fit their situation so well as well as they were very complementary of one another. I wouldn't call them opposites personally, but they were the same in a lot of ways that complemented one another. You have Rafael who is a priest but has dark desires he has had to suppress that with Lorenzo he can now express, and Lorenzo is a contract killer who grew up in darkness who is fine with the darkness bc it's what he knows but is a man of loyalty and principles. I Just loved the two of them together (they had some amazing chemistry and pice) as well as individuals.
Now for the plot I loved the strong John Wick vibes of this book but with this series there is corruption within the organization because of a character named Zeus and we delve into that a bit more in this book along with seeing the intricacies of this organization. Again, I just loved the vibes then you combine with it the strength of this organization that is rotting from the inside out and is coming after our MCs who are just trying to do what's right. Very David and Goliath esq. There are some side characters that are really important to the MCs survival, and I hope we get their story soon.

Rafael is a priest who because of the actions of Lorenzo has been excommunicated from the church. Rafael should hate him for a multitude of reasons but for some reason he can't and is instead hiding him and keeping him safe when Rafael should be turning him in. They will have to work together as they try to survive against those who have plotted against them and are now turning the resources of the Ferrymen against them to cover up their corrupted influence. But as they are forced to work together the more Rafael starts to fall and drift away from God that he wonders if redemption is possible and even worth it when the other option is Lorenzo and his touch.

This is a 2nd book in the series. I loved the first book, but liked this one. I received the audiobook ARC and am leaving my honest review. The narration is top notch.
I did like this story, just didn’t love it. I do like the continuation of the storyline. Loved Lorenzo in the first book. Was looking forward to his story here. But his sass was much less in this book, which is kind of what made him who he was.
I liked the addition of Rafael. There were a few twists I honestly didn’t see. This book also seemed longer than the first book, with more missions. And the addition of more Jasper and Diego was great. Can’t wait to hear them next.
Introduction of more directors, some deeper characters, more judge interaction. All great additions to this series in this book. But it was a more subdued story in a way. Even though there seemed to be, from my thoughts, more danger and violence and injury, it was weirdly subdued. Where the first book was fast paced, this one was definitely not. Maybe I just lived their all consuming passion and the humor in the first book? That wasn’t present much in this book for me.
I do have to say that I absolutely LOVE Diego’s captain speech for Certain Death Airline. Funniest shit I’ve heard all week. I was cackling listening to this, walking to my car after work while listening with earbuds, and probably looked like a lunatic.
There was a scene where Lo was running and almost fluidly dance fighting with an animal and it was so well written I could almost feel him and his fluidity for that scene. 🤌
I was not the biggest fan of the depth of the full-on biting and blood during sex. But that’s a personal preference. If that’s your thing, it was definitely written well, I would think. Just goes a bit too far past just marking up, which I’m good with.
Was a HEA.

Unfortunately, this book just wasn’t for me. Typically, with audiobooks, I can go through them fast, but I had to force myself to put this on multiple times. I just wasn’t a big fan of the plot; it seemed a little all over the place in my opinion, and at times, hard to follow.
The relationship progression with the characters also happened way too quickly for my liking. Usually, with these kinds of books, I can suspend my disbelief a bit when it comes to the transition of hate to love, but the speed and intensity of the change in this book were at neck-breaking levels. The spice was the best part of the novel, and for me, in particular, that’s not something that can outweigh plot or chemistry. I think if we were given more time for their relationship to develop, and in turn time for us to connect with the characters, I could see myself enjoying the book a lot more.
The narrator did a good job with the voices. My one gripe is that I wish there were more distinction in the voices between the two main characters. Many times while listening, I had no clue whose POV I was in. Whether that is entirely on the narrator or some fault is on the author, I am not too sure.

This guy has been helping funnel children into the same program Lorenzo was in so Lorenzo has no issues taking him out. But shortly after it is done Lorenzo is stopped by a rival assassin for the church who turns out to be none other then Dionysus's son Rafael. These two go head to head until they finally realize that someone is pulling both their strings and this was more then just some hit that was busted, it's a game for power and control. Rafael has to come face to face with every decision he has made in his life and figure out how to move forward and Lorenzo has to learn how to lean on others and that he is so much more then what he was made into.
Guys this is the most bare bones slightly obtuse review I can give you without spoiling things 🤣 This was twisty turney and there were secrets everywhere so I really don't want to give anything away. Rafael and Lorenzo were just 2 very broken boys who got used by the system and are now taking revenge on the people who thought they could play them. This was just nonstop action from the beginning and was just as amazing as the first book. If you haven't started this series this is definitely one to jump into!

I really enjoyed this audiobook! Ryan Stone did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. His distinct voices made it easy to tell Lorenzo and Rafael apart, and the pacing felt natural without ever sounding rushed. He also captured the emotions of each scene exceptionally well, making the tension, fear, and vulnerability feel even more impactful through the narration.
Godless is the second book in the Ferrymen series and follows Lorenzo and Rafael. Lorenzo is tasked with assassinating a cardinal at the Vatican, but when the mission goes horribly wrong and the coveted Judas Coin enters the picture, he finds himself hunted from every direction. Rafael, the son of Dionysus and someone with a complicated history with Lorenzo, is sent to kill him. As the two uncover that they’ve both been manipulated, they’re forced into an uneasy alliance to survive.
I really enjoyed the development of both Lorenzo and Rafael throughout the story. Lorenzo and Rafael? PEAK enemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity, only-one-bed, “I might stab you or kiss you” vibes. Honestly, half this book is tension and the other half is me whispering “sir… you cannot use stabbing as foreplay” — and yet here we are.
This story is dark, bloody, unhinged, and somehow still stupidly romantic. Lorenzo is a feral assassin who’s never belonged to anyone, and Rafael is a celibate priest trying so hard to do the right thing… right up until he’s hiding a wanted killer in a church basement. Love that for him.

The story follows Lorenzo, who was abducted as a child and raised to become an assassin. After completing his latest assignment, he receives a Judas coin, meaning he must carry out that mission. His target is Dionysus—the man who raised him and who was Raphael’s father. Dionysus’s death sparks a bitter feud between Lorenzo and Raphael. Raphael knows he should hate Lorenzo for everything that’s happened, yet he can’t ignore the undeniable attraction between them. Instead of seeking revenge, Raphael chooses to protect and hide Lorenzo while they work together to uncover the people who orchestrated the events that tore their lives apart.
I really enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, especially because they were forced to work together. As they spent more time together, their relationship developed naturally from mutual distrust into genuine affection. Their connection became much deeper than physical attraction, making their romance feel believable despite their complicated history.
The story was action-packed from beginning to end, with plenty of suspense, danger, and twists that kept me engaged. I also loved the found family aspect and how the bonds between the characters added emotional depth to the story.
If you enjoy dark romances with high stakes, morally gray characters, and intense chemistry, this book is definitely worth picking up.

The story follows Lorenzo, who was abducted as a child and raised to become an assassin. After completing his latest assignment, he receives a Judas coin, meaning he must carry out that mission. His target is Dionysus—the man who raised him and who was Raphael’s father. Dionysus’s death sparks a bitter feud between Lorenzo and Raphael. Raphael knows he should hate Lorenzo for everything that’s happened, yet he can’t ignore the undeniable attraction between them. Instead of seeking revenge, Raphael chooses to protect and hide Lorenzo while they work together to uncover the people who orchestrated the events that tore their lives apart.
I really enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, especially because they were forced to work together. As they spent more time together, their relationship developed naturally from mutual distrust into genuine affection. Their connection became much deeper than physical attraction, making their romance feel believable despite their complicated history.
The story was action-packed from beginning to end, with plenty of suspense, danger, and twists that kept me engaged. I also loved the found family aspect and how the bonds between the characters added emotional depth to the story.
If you enjoy dark romances with high stakes, morally gray characters, and intense chemistry, this book is definitely worth picking up.

Wowzers
If you liked the last book and also enjoy depraved…tender moments, then this is for you. It’s intense, kind of like if the last book had way more carnage and the protagonists had not a single moment of relief or rest. A LOT happens here, but I was captivated the whole time. As a smut junkie, I actually found myself skimming the smut (chef’s kiss premium smut, mind you) towards the end because I needed to know what was gonna happen. You know, with the plot where they’re met with danger at every turn and not smearing jazz and red body juice all over each other.
The insta love is severe, which was perhaps my only (very surprising) qualm. They went through SO MUCH together due to their undying love, but it was hard to discern when the switch happened. From wild sox to risking life and limb happened quite suddenly. Insta-love/lust feels a bit different when lives are at stake I guess. I wouldn’t have minded just a bit more work getting them to “I’ll risk my life and the lives of all of those dear to me” status. It was giving fated mates real hard, but since this isn’t a world where fated mates are a thing, and since there was actual incredible plot, it was a bit jarring.
But that’s barely an issue and easy to move past. The story was incredible and I look SO forward to Zeus gettin’ got. Feels like we have at *least* 2 more couples to go and I cannot wait.

Godless is the second book in The Ferrymen series, and wow, what a ride. Ever since Lorenzo appeared in Ruthless, I’ve been dying to know his story, and this book absolutely delivered.
Lorenzo is everything you expect from a contract killer: lethal, controlled, and loyal to the man who made him. Until that loyalty becomes his undoing. When he’s set up and forced into an impossible situation, he ends up needing help from someone he never thought he’d see again, Rafael, a fallen priest with secrets of his own.
The dynamic between these two is electric. Rafael is the perfect counterbalance to Lorenzo: a man of faith who’s been living with dark desires, and as the story unfolds, those desires come to light in the most deliciously tense way. Watching Lorenzo give Rafael space to take what he wants? Absolute perfection.
This book isn’t just about heat (though there’s plenty of that). It’s packed with action, betrayal, and moral greyness, but it also gives us moments of vulnerability and growth that make their relationship feel earned. I really didn't think that it was possible to surpass how much I loved Ruthless and then I started Godless and immediately fell in love with both Rafael and Lorenzo. I hadn't even made it through the first chapter before I was sold on these two men.
It's a book filled with traumatic pasts, chaos, graphic violence, and murder birds. It was just nonstop with immaculate pacing. When the action slowed down, the romance picked up and vis versa. The dynamics between Rafael and Lorenzo were pristine. It certainly felt like an enemies to lovers situation, albeit it wasn't long lived. Lorenzo was pretty obsessed with Rafael after he got his ass kicked in the cathedral. I like the fact that Rafael actively tried to murder him, and came pretty close.
It was just a really great time. This is the kind of dark romance that I love. The relationship isn't abusive (once the murder attempts stop) but the plot is very dark. We're dealing with an assassin and a priest involved in a twisted murder plot with people actively trying to kill them. It should be violent and graphic, but it doesn't need to be abuse and thankfully, Eveland doesn't do that here at all. The pacing is wonderfully done. The characters (sides and mains) were well written and perfectly fleshed out. By the end of the book, you'll be rabid for the sequel.

4.5 ⭐️ If you thought book one was good , Lorenzo and Rafael will have you in a chokehold just you wait . This is a very intense, dark , MM romance between an assassin and a fallen priest with very traumatic pasts and chaotic internal battles . While I truly loved book 1 of the ferrymen series , it doesn’t hold a candle to book 2 .
This book is absolutely addictive, full or blood and violence , and so emotionally damaging . Absolutely loved their chemistry , the enemies to lovers , sacrilegious type vibes . I am all here for a hot romance while desecrating the not so holy . Stabbing as foreplay ?!? Yes please .
Now hiding an assassin in the church basement , totally giving dare devil vibes lol which made it that much hotter . This was absolutely a delicious read , if you love trauma, chaos, blood shed and morally questionable characters I highly recommend this series. As for me , I cannot wait for book 3 to come out !

What you think happens happens with extra steps. There were so many times I wanted to stop. I found ten billion other things to do but read this. It was so forever taking with so many constant unnecessary forgettable events. Too many times I thought this is stupid, please end, how am I only halfway, how is there still a hundred pages?
Injuries are forgotten - buddy jumps off a building, catches himself on a metal fire escape banister with hands that were stigmata'd like a couple days ago (did I read that wrong?), they are up and running from a plane crash and then infiltrating a secret facility and then night snowmobile rides and then and then and then, stabbings and dislocated limbs are barely a setback just another thing that happened.
I was laughing at the labyrinth antics, I don't think I was supposed but by then I was a lost cause.
The characters blended together for me I barely recognized Lorenzo from the first book, and I liked that book! But I dnf'd the last book by this author so I pushed through cause normally I like them, some of favorite books are by this author. This one just wasn't for me.

Lorenzo was introduced as small, pretty and deadly dangerous. At the age of 7 he made an impression on Dionysus and Rafael his 11 year old son, who Lorenzo marked and Lorenzo was bought to be trained for the Pantheon . Now 20 years on Lorenzo and Rafael's paths cross again. Lorenzo is the trained assassin and Rafael is now a priest.
From the start there is action and I just knew that is was not going to be easy for Lorenzo, but even I did not expect what Lorenzo had to go through. The moment Lorenzo and Rafael crossed paths there was that love/hate, not knowing whether they would kiss or kill. They had to learn to trust each other and others, with some characters being a surprise. I was at the edge of my seat wanting to know if they survived.
There is a scene later in the book concerning Rafael and without giving anything a way I could identify with as I had the same frustrations completing the simple task and I had to stop myself commenting out loud the best way to do it, which in my case took me months to complete successfully.
With more of Jasper and Diego in this story, I am looking forward to reading their story, as I have some questions which I hope will get answered.

Somehow this is my first book by this author despite being book 2 in The Ferrymen Series. This will be rectified soon though, particularly if Ryan Stone narrates it because his voice is just yummy.
There is so much depth to this book. Two ruthless and unforgiving killers pitted against each other amongst deceit, lies and misguided beliefs. You feel like you're right there, experiencing all the pain endured and passion felt, especially in the maze. It has your heart pounding in your throat, hanging on every word. You can physically feel the darkness crowding in around you, close and suffocating.
Despite this book being seriously dark with many trigger warnings, it is also hilarious in places which lift the mood just enough so it doesn't completely consume you. I particularly like Diego's wit.

The excitement I had for this book was well rewarded. Lorenzo and Raphael just stole my heart, and I don’t want it back. They can keep it.
Lorenzo is an assassin and Raphael is a priest. These two should not work, yet they’re beyond perfect for each other. With a bit of religious trauma, a secret society of assassins, humor, and spice, I couldn’t put this down. These two drew me in. They both had internal struggles to get through, so their journey wasn’t easy. Raphael’s struggles with religion and his role in the church, and Lorenzo being forced to hunt down the man that raised him. Add in external obstacles and it made it even harder. But they found each other exactly when they needed to. Their relationship was raw and messy, but it was also so beautiful.
And just like with the first book, the whole secret society has me so intrigued. I love the customs, the way things work, and the symbolism.
I’m so excited for Deathless, and can’t wait to dive even further into this world!

nice follow up to ruthless. it follows the events of the previous book but with another couple. i really like the assassin world built and all the hierarchies of it. it definitely builds off of what we know from the previous book, and like the other one, it feels like it runs a bit longer than i’d like. i wish it was a bit shorter or had more of a background of the two main characters. they met as children but we don’t get much after that. i wish they had more history with one another and build off of that. instead, they just knew of each other and suddenly fall in love??
i’m also not too crazy about the timeline and how all the couples are falling in love after 3 weeks. i wish we had more of the relationship development along with the plot so it isn’t so random.
although i like ruthless just a bit more, im still hooked enough to want to read the next book when it comes out.
i definitely recommend giving the audiobook a try. ryan stone did great!
