Genevieve Edwards never expected to see Oliver Sinclair again. When he finally returns after seven years, they both find themselves straddling the lines between hatred, passion, love, and scandal in a new London Season.

Genevieve does not trust people easily. Growing up in a cruel home, her only solace had been the strangely kind little boy who decided to be her friend. But when that boy grew up and left to travel the world, the heartbreak of his abandonment stayed with her. Now, he’s returned on the eve of her first Season, and she finds herself full of bitter resentment…and something far more unexpected for the handsome and charming man Oliver has become.

Oliver returns to England unaware of the animosity his childhood friend now feels for him. The broken little girl he’d befriended, cared for, and spent years building trust with is now a grown, spitfire of a woman he’s not sure he can stand. Except her beauty and fierceness cause his blood to stir in more than just anger. Which is why, against his better judgement, he follows Genevieve to London to join the Season.

But when their history and intense attraction put Genevieve and Oliver in a compromising position, can they let go of their hurts and doubts long enough to find their way back to one another?

❣️“I swear, not another day will go by when I am not with you, Genevieve. From now until we die, I will stay with you, be with you, each and every day. We will live and leave this life together.”

Okay, I was utterly entertained, absolutely enamored, and irresistibly charmed by these two, their graces, the Sinclairs, their friends and this whole little world created by KP March.

This book found me at the right time, and I will never not smile when I think about it. I'm not sure if this book is a hidden gem but a gem it surely is. And it shone so brightly under the sunlight. Now, excuse me, as I go back to read the Duke's story.

Thank you to the author and Torch Lit Ink for the digital arc of this book. These are my honest thoughts after reading The Gem.

I love a good Regency Era romance. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book and I'm a sucker for books with that vibe. The Gem by K.P. March is a solid book that I enjoyed reading! The characters had a reasonable amount of depth for the length of this book, and honestly probably have even more if you read the first book in the series. Genevieve and Oliver are such a good match. Some of the "drama" was a little overinflated, but that is the tendency for Regency Era novels, so it didn't bother me too much. Overall this was a good story that was mostly low-angst with some tense moments and a happily ever after.

Thank you to K.P. March and Torch Lit Ink for the advanced copy of "The Gem". This book will be released on August 14, 2025.

This is the second book in the Foxgloves series, but can be read as a standalone (though obviously reading "The Mistress" first is recommended).

This story follows Oliver (MMC) and Genevieve (FMC) as they navigate their childhood friendship and adult relationship. After living near each other at a young age, Oliver is able to pull Genevieve out of her shell, only for him to leave her for many years. Without any contact, he suddenly returns and she is livid. What will unfold when they have to go through the London season together???

I loved the length of this book (216 pages) as well as the short chapters (44 chapters). It was easy to read in a day!

I think this author has grown in her writing from her first book to her second. I enjoyed the plot and pace of this book more than I did the first book.

I loved that Oliver called Genevieve "The General" and his "Gem". I also loved the meaning of the foxgloves at the beginning of the book and the end. (I don't want to say too much and spoil anything).

My only negative comment about this book is that it's in third person, BUT that's just a personal preference that I have while reading.

If you're looking for a quick historical romance read, totally pick this one up!

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars!

Sigh. 🤭
I think I’ve found my new guilty pleasure. Not just regency romance but K.P. March’s regency romance! I want to read every book she writes!! I adored Genevieve and Oliver 🥹
Their history made an instant connection later in life not feel like insta-love. And I’m soooo thankful that a miscommunication trope was not long lived! She is masterful at this!! I truly hope there are more stories coming so I can keep in touch with Genevieve and Oliver!! I can’t share any quotes for fear of spoiling it for you. This is a super sweet, quick read with spice! If you like regency romance then you need to read this!

Thank you to the author and TorchLitInk for the eARC. This voluntary review is my honest thoughts and opinions about the book.

Title: The Gem

A special thank you goes to Torch Lit Ink for providing me with a copy of this book. Please know that this does not influence my rating or thoughts on the book itself.

tw: parental death, child abuse

I don’t even know where to start with this book. I truly struggle with writing about books I love. Because how do you even convey just how much you enjoyed the book? Everything about it was just so perfect, and it was exactly what my heart needed. I needed a book like this to warm my heart. I was craving it, and this book fed my soul in the way I needed. It was like getting a hug from my boyfriend. Everything just felt good. I felt happy after this book.

I don't think there is a better trope than childhood friends to lovers. Sure, enemies to lovers is great (especially when they finally admit their feelings for each other that have always been there), but there's something about two childhood best friends who have always been there for each other and realize they are perfect for each other. It truly hits. I just truly enjoy the trope, and that’s one of the reasons I requested this book.

Oliver and Genevieve were so adorable. I think one of my favorite parts about the book was the bits of childhood lore we got. We got to see just how Oliver and Gen grew up together. You could tell they were destined to be together, whether they knew it or not. The way Oliver has always cared about Gen makes my heart melt. Even when he didn’t understand the abuse Gen suffered, he was there. He never made her talk about it unless she wanted to. He was the perfect gentleman in every single way. And as for Gen, she was a feisty one, but I loved her. I loved that she knew she was being foolish and owned up to it. She didn’t let her traumatic past prevent her from growing. She knew when she was acting a certain way and apologized for it.

Overall, I just truly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed seeing Amelia and Gideon again. I like how the books are interconnected, but you could technically still read them as standalones. But they are better read as a series. I can’t wait to continue with this series. I love this world so much, and I love the characters just as much. I can’t recommend this series and this book enough.

The Gem is the second book in the Foxgloves Regency series and it lives up to the expectations of its predecessor The Mistress. I for one found this plot line to be very intriguing and we got more of Genevieve's backstory as she had such a small role in the first book. I found Oliver to be a very outstanding character what with him being a very good friend to Genevieve during her very traumatic childhood. Overall this second book was very good!

Genevieve spent much of her childhood living in fear of her abusive father. Her only friend was Oliver Sinclair who eventually left to discover the world. However, just as she is about to start the dreaded London season Oliver makes a surprise return. Will thrse two be able to rekindle a friendship that was so dear from long ago or will it ignite into something more passionate?

You can read all of my reviews at Nerd Girl Loves Books.

This is a sweet Regency romance and book 2 in the Foxgloves series. The book alternates between the current time when the main characters are adults and the past when they were children. Lady Genevieve is the daughter of a Duke who is a horrible person that abused her her whole life. She finds solace in Oliver, the second son of the rich businessman that owns the house on the other side of the lake. The two form an unlikely friendship that ends when Oliver, who is older than Genevieve, leaves to travel the world, become a man, and find his own fortune. His leaving breaks Genevieve's heart.

While Oliver is away Genevieve's brother returns home after their father's death and is the new Duke. He brings with him a loving wife and two children, making a loving, happy home for Genevieve. Years later Oliver returns having grown up and found his fortune. He's excited to reunite with Genevieve and is crushed when she lashes out at him and says she wants nothing to do with him. Confused and not understanding how deeply his leaving and lack of communication with her over the years hurt Genevieve, he thinks he can brush it off and continue on with life. Ha! Not gonna happen.

Because the families are close, the couple are thrust together often and when it's time to go to London for Genevieve's debut into society, Oliver follows. Despite their outward disdain, the couple can't keep their eyes off each other. What starts out as verbal spats quickly turn into hot make-out sessions. Oliver believes because he's not a noble, he can never be with Genevieve. Despite this, he can't get her out of his head. While everyone around them sees they are perfect for each other, the couple is clueless until they aren't.

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from Torch Lit Ink. All opinions are my own.

Oliver was Genevieve's safe place as a child, and then he left, and she didn’t think she would ever see or hear from him again. Seven years later, he shows up and turns her world upside down. Genevieve has to battle her trust issues from her upbringing and see if she can forgive the crush from her childhood, and Oliver has to adjust to this new Genevieve, who is no longer a scared child. Through the London season, they are continuously drawn to one another, but how will that bode for both of their futures?

I loved this book. I didn't want to put it down and go about my day. I needed to know how Genevieve and Oliver’s story played out. They are both so strong-willed and passionate, and I think that they end up complementing each other perfectly. They both also struggle with feeling like they are worth it while their family and friends watch them from the sidelines and encourage them to go after what they both clearly want. The passion and tension in this is perfection. The London season is becoming one of my new favorite locations for a romance read. I cant wait to see more of them in future books and see how their story continues to unfold. I’m so grateful that I was gifted an ARC of this book 🥰

I just finished The Gem by KP March, a Regency romance, rich with detail, with a perfectly cozy pace, that left me feeling contented. This quick, delightful read follows childhood sweethearts Genevieve and Oliver, reunited after years apart, each secretly pining but also harboring unanswered questions and resentment. The result is a tumultuous love story that is sweet and heartening in turns, with a happy resolution.

What sets this book apart is Genevieve’s journey. Seeing PTSD (though it isn’t labeled as such) clearly represented in a romance this way was one of the things that drew me to the book, and for the most part I feel like it was well executed by the author. Abused as a child, Genevieve’s past shapes her connections and reactions, leaving her wary and prone to miscommunication. March weaves her recovery from this pain into the story with care as stronger symptoms of PTSD emerge, integrated right up to the end, including one of the more intimate scenes. It’s heavy stuff, but handled with grace and it doesn’t weigh the story down or dim the bright and joyful tone overall. Oliver’s protective and sweet demeanor seem to shine a light on the path to wellbeing, as he recognizes her independent resilience, calling her General, while also seeing the tender desire to be loved, as his Gem. He seemed to have a much better understanding of her than she did of him.

The constant mixed signals between Genevieve and Oliver, likely meant to reflect her trauma and their age gap, sometimes felt overdone, leading to a few too many crossed wires that had me skimming in frustration. Still, it’s a minor quibble in a story that’s otherwise quite charming.

The highlight of my read was the world building. March paints every scene so vividly I could practically dip my toes in the lake, watching sunlight ripple across the water, or stroll through the London Season as a debutante. The lake, especially, feels like a quiet character in itself, framing some of the book’s most tender moments. It’s unforgettable. Such lovely setting descriptions are a feat for such a brief novel.

I also enjoyed reading about Genevieve’s bonds with other women, from her sister-in-law to other neighbors and new friends, are pure gold that spans generations. Those scenes in London sparkled with warmth and wit, and I only wish we’d gotten more of them, especially with her sister-in-law. Conversation covered everything from deep heartfelt advice to chatter about dresses and wedding plans. I would love to sink into more of this dynamic, drinking tea with the ladies.

While the female friendships added warmth, the romantic heat between Genevieve and Oliver occasionally felt less balanced. The open-door scenes are loving but, for me, a bit much and not always in sync with the emotional tenor of the situation. Some of the steamy language clashed with the Regency setting for me. The abrupt change in tone from sweet romance to vulgarity pulled me from the story, and I skimmed scenes that I may read otherwise. I know many readers love these scenes, and it’s easy to skip, so it didn’t dim my love for the story. The characters are so well-crafted, even in this short novel, that I was fully invested. The Gem is a breezy, heartfelt read that’s perfect for a relaxing day, and I’d happily revisit Genevieve and Oliver’s world. If you love Regency romance with depth and a side of sisterhood, this one’s a treat!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️

Genevieve Edwards never expected to see Oliver Sinclair again. When he finally returns after seven years, they both find themselves straddling the lines between hatred, passion, love, and scandal in a new London Season.

The chemistry and tension between Genevieve and Oliver was brilliant - I immediately became invested in their relationship! ❤️ There was a lot of history between the two of them. Oliver helps Genevieve to heal and learn to trust in an almost older brother role before their relationship evolves into romantic love when they meet again as adults. K.P. March slowly reveals the history between Genevieve and Oliver through well-placed flashbacks which allowed the story to move along at a good pace.

The introduction of new side characters in this book was something I also enjoyed. It really helped to expand the world for the reader whilst also hinting at possible couples that could be the focus of future books in the series.

The Gem was such a fun read, filled with all the glamour of the Regency era and some delicious spice! 🥵 It’s the second book in a series of interconnected stand-alones, and is a must-read for Bridgerton and historical romance lovers.

Congratulations to K.P. March on another great instalment in the Foxgloves Series, and thank you so much to K.P. March and Torch Lit Ink for my ARC.

Thank you to KP March and Torch Lit INK for this gifted e-ARC of The GEM.

This story about Genevieve and Oliver, childhood best friends. Genevieve went through some trauma with her father and Oliver was the only one she trusted to talk with. When Oliver left to find himself and who he wanted to be as an adult and make his life better Genevieve was hurt.

I loved Genevieve’s spontaneity and love for fun, along with her joy for music and using that as a healing tool.

I also loved how Oliver was so trusting, calm, patient and overall nice guy.

This story was about figuring out their relationship as adults. This story gave me Bridgerton vibes which I really enjoyed that show. I love that time period.

There was one area that I did not appreciate how Oliver spoke with Genevieve near the end, knowing her past, not sure that was necessary for the story but overall I really enjoyed this story.

I thought the length of this book was just right and I love the short chapters making it flow.

If you like Historical Romances you will enjoy this story.

Genevieve was the victim of awful abuse from her father until he died when she was a teen. Nobody except Oliver knew what happened to her. He befriended her at age 5 until he left when she was 12. He returned 7 years later expecting to renew his friendship with her. She's furious at him. He still doesn't quite understand why his abandoning her felt like a betrayal to her. The abuse is told through flashbacks.

Of course they quickly move to lust. She's a passionate kisser for somebody whom I assume has never been kissed. She's also quite sexual (including a blow job before she's no longer a virgin) which also makes no sense. Saying and doing things that are very modern. "You'll have to tell me what you like."

There isn't any real depth or suspense to the story. She starts her London season. Lots of ballroom and party scenes as they dodge one another but give in to their growing love. Then they are caught. Then she tells Gideon, her brother, all that happened to her. Then they marry.

Oliver befriends lonely and abused Genevieve as a child. Slowly their friendship turns into her first crush. But of course Oliver does not feel the same way. She is just a child and he is becoming a man. A fact that is hard to deny when he leaves to explore the world for 7 years and she hears nothing from him. Left alone to navigate her abusive father's death and her brother's entry into her life and his role of Duke. When Oliver finally returns and immediately finds Gen, he is shocked to find himself longing to have her. The young girl he loved as a child, grown into a fiery young woman. The two of them denying their feelings and labeling them wrong. Everyone around them can clearly see the truth but they are so buried in their own lacking, they cannot see the truth. "Scandal" arises but only Gen seems to care. The rest of the family delighted at the outcome though not thrilled by the means. Yearning and passion and misplaced anger makes this book so much fun to read.

When he returns after seven years, can he handle her anger and see who she has truly become?

The Gem is a sweet, endearing story about childhood friends who are forced to face the fact that they have loved each other all along.

Genevieve met Oliver when she needed someone else more than anything in her life. Oliver just wanted to make the girl next door smile and trust him like she did no one else. As both grew, Oliver left to become the man he thought would be worthy to be seen with a duke’s family leaving Genevieve to her own life. Now, he’s back and is seeing a grown woman that seems to hate him.

Genevieve and Oliver’s story is one of young love that never went away. The story the March tells is one of trauma as a child and healing through the love of family and friends. There’s pining, banter, and heat as these two see each other after so long apart.

The Gem is a great read for your weekend, and you’ll love Genevieve’ feisty spirit and Oliver’s soft strength.

childhood best friends turned marriage. yes please. she was his best friend when she was little. he was not only her best friend he was her savior. she was abused by her father. he turned those dark days into good.
speed up with current life. he's back after seven long years touring the continent.
this book was so much what I read romance for. especially historical romance. it had it all. the angst, the repressed love the realization that yes they were supposed to be more than friends.
how can you not love a read that makes your childhood best friend and savior into the man you knew you always needed and wanted
very well written historical romance with all the romance this romantic heart 💜 needed.

If the first book was giving the Duke and I vibes this book is more like Colin's and Penelope's story... or at least I think so!

Genevieve is a shy girl with an abusive father who finds comfort and friendship in Oliver, the boy next door. She is younger than him and when he leaves to make something of himself she feels the sting of being abandoned by the one man she hoped would never leave.

Seven years go by before he returns and she is no longer the little girl he left behind. She had grown into a beautiful woman and Ovlier is helpless to his heart. But she isn't going to make it easy for him. Scandal ensues but in the end, love wins out.

If you loved the Bridgerton series this for sure needs to be on your tbr!

This was such a wonderful story, that gave those Bridgerton vibes, but had its own wonderful characters and story. Towards the end I felt like it moved very quickly from our two main characters just on the edges of speaking again to they’re suddenly getting married and it had me feeling like I missed a whole bunch of the book.
The love story was sweet though! Oliver was sweet, caring, and always willing to wait in order for Genevieve to get her thoughts in order especially in the beginning when she was quite angry with him. Genevieve is a wonderfully written strong, female lead who still deeply desires the sweet and romantic side of things. Overall, I really enjoyed this book!

Three stars from my shelf to yours!

The Gem was a book that I was unsure if I would like it , but I absolutely loved it. It kinda gave me that Pride and Prejudice feel. This was a historical regency romance. I loved the characters Genevieve and Oliver. I have not read the first book in this series but after reading this I would definitely go back and read it. This story was emotional yet heart warming. The way Oliver felt so protective of Genevieve during their childhood was spectacular to read. This was a relatively short read but after reading this, I would definitely like to read more from this author. This was a four out of five star read for me.

Another easy and enjoyable Regency romance. The Gem is the second book in the Foxglove Regency Romance series, and I found myself liking this one even more than the first.

The story moves quickly — at times you may catch yourself thinking, “wait… it’s only been three days?” — but given the friends-to-lovers trope, that pacing actually felt fitting. You always know where the relationship is heading; it’s just a matter of watching how they get there.

Overall, this was a fun, light read with just the right amount of spice. Perfect if you’re looking for something fast, romantic, and entertaining.

I love stories of childhood friends that meet again later in life and realize there's been something more than friendship there after all. Oliver and Genevieve are so perfect for each other and I love the way they banter back and forth. I also enjoyed getting to see more of Amelia and Gideon, and how their relationship has progressed. Gideon and Genevieve both finally have the family they always wanted and needed, and the loving spouses they deserved.

I loved how they worked through their anger about what happened to understanding and love. I really love their story and the way they opened up to each other. This Historical romance series is starting to become one of my favorites and I can’t wait to read more.

Thank you to Torchlit Ink and author KP March for a gifted copy of this ebook.

I loved this. Again KP gave us a story of romance and yearning. The FMC was a survivor or mental and physical abuse at a young age and found solace in her friend the MMC. He left to travel and do what he needed to do to overcome his own insecurities as a second son. When he returns 7 years later, we get this story of second chances.

So good!

I really struggled to like book 1. It was good to see the Duke and duchess settled in this one but I didn’t love a whole lot about that book. But, book 2 was a joy! I really enjoyed every second. I didn’t find myself frustrated or disappointed about anything and no grammatical issues either. Just a true 5 star book!

The Gem followed Genevieve(Gideon's sister) and her childhood best friend, Oliver. Oliver has returned from his travels and has returned to his home. He cannot wait to see Genevieve and share his travels with her, but she is hurt that he left seven years ago and never wrote to her once.

I loved the development of Oliver and Gen's entire relationship. It was nice to see how/why they became close as children and Oliver continues to be just as kind as a grown man. There is a twist that throws Gen and Oliver together and it kept me on my toes and moved the plot along. There are some darker themes in this book dealing with abuse, but I thought they were handled appropriately and were well written. It was also great to read about Amelia and Gideon and see what they have been up to!

Honestly, I cannot get enough of this Foxgloves series and cannot wait to see who the next book will be about!
