Finding Jensen: A Path to Empathy Through Understanding

Rate this book
Finding A Path to Empathy Through Understanding is a story of becoming — and a guide to deeper connection.

Through personal stories that explore identity, belonging, and the courage to live authentically, Jensen invites readers to discover how empathy, language, and compassion can shape stronger relationships — with others, with ourselves, and with the communities we call home.

Each chapter offers thoughtful reflections and practical insight drawn from the author's lived experience. You'll explore how language can build connection, how boundaries can protect it, and how even the quietest acts of kindness can create space for growth.

This book is for anyone who believes empathy can be practiced, not just felt — and who’s ready to begin, or continue, that practice with intention.

It’s a reminder that even what feels broken can still carry purpose, and that growth often begins in the moments we feel most human.

It’s about seeing and being seen, choosing kindness when the road gets hard, and finding our way forward, together.

Jensen Dee Parker Chappell is a writer, software engineer, and advocate for empathy, inclusion, and honest connection. She shares life with her wife and two daughters, who remind her every day what love and resilience look like.

A brief personal journey into Jensen’s transition, this book shares stories that help readers truly empathize with her choices. She then invites readers to explore empathy itself—what it means, why it matters, and how we show respect for others. As a teacher, I’ve always believed empathy was one of my greatest strengths. I feel deeply. I do my best to see the world from their place. Yet this book revealed aspects of empathy I had never considered, opening my eyes to new ways I can strengthen my relationships with students, friends, colleagues, and, most importantly, family. This is a book I will share widely, but first with the people I love most.

Truly a book that will help guide you with being more empathetic, and in doing so, be more ever present for those you care deeply for. It is also a book that will have you looking deeper into how you interact with others. Take the time to go along with Jensen on her journey, and see what you can learn about yourself, and others, when empathy is in the forefront of all you do.

This will be a book I pick up over and over when I need to be reminded how to gently navigate boundaries and healthy communication in relationships. It’s a delightful read and beautiful memoir of the trans experience. As a cis person it was an important reminder and read for me. Thank you Jensen for telling your story.

Empathy Is Something We All Need

I have known Jensen through part of her journey, she is one of the smartest and kindest people I have ever worked with. This book is a window into her mind and soul, and its one I am glad I had a chance to look through. Read it, digest it, think on it. You'll find the words resound.
