I was tempted to DNF this because it took four hours to even start getting to the meat & potatoes of the story, but none of the build-up is compelling.
The main character, Eden, isn’t like the other girls. She actually eats and can’t figure out why people find her attractive, even though the description we’re given of her suggests she’s conventionally attractive.
Aside from that, the plot is too convoluted to be believable. The mom kills the dad for his fortune, convinces his cousin (whom she had an affair with) to pretend to be him, poisons him, her step-son & maid decide to hold her hostage, Eden comes to be a caregiver to the cousin, finds the mom, happens upon her childhood crush, who also happens to be an FBI agent, who happens to be investigating the family Eden works for for money laundering pharmaceuticals because apparently the only way the mom can get Thallium is through money-laundering (i also think some of the details on thallium poisoning are inaccurate, but i didn’t feel like risking getting put on a list to confirm my suspicions lol). Then it turns out the son is in on the plot, the daughter has no idea her mother is still alive & living in the house, and the step-son & daughter have no idea their dad has been replaced by his cousin.
And then the epilogue…there was SO MUCH that was summarized that could’ve been expanded upon and made the plot interesting. But instead, we’re left with a clunky epilogue that sounded more like an outline than a conclusion to the story

I got to 25% and just couldn’t go any further.
The entire first 1/4 of the book is just her describing the house over and over and over again. Nothing scary or spooky happens and it is extremely hard to get into the book because of the lack of thrill or anything at all interesting taking place.
The writing is extremely juvenile in nature and dull.
Horrible, I’m sad that I wasted as much time on this book as I did.

Did Not Finish
August 28, 2026I used to not update my currently reading shelf until I was about 50% through something, sometimes even further. Simply put, I am a very picky reader and my mood changes what seems like constantly. What worked for me one day might not be something I'm in the mood for the very next day.
Truthfully, I don't know why I'm like this. I used to be someone who could pick a book based on if it sounded good or not, and if it sounded good, I would just read it. Period. I hardly DNF'd books, not because I didn't want to, it's just because I was not as picky of a reader years ago as I am now.
I think I'm this way because I'm 30 and have so much more responsibility than I did in my early 20s. Time is precious to me, especially my reading time. So, if something doesn't grab my attention in the first few pages, I move on. If something grabbed my attention one day but the very next day I'm not in the mood to read it, I move on. It's annoying being this type of reader, but, hey, that's why I rate my books so high because if I stick with it, it's a good book for myself, ya know?
All this is to say...this is the case with this book. I've just grown bored with it. The audiobook is fine, the actual plot is fine, the characters are fine...but, see, everything is just fine. And since I have to keep the Did Not Finish shelf, I might as well use it.
So, perhaps expect me to start adding more books to this shelf? I'm usually pretty good at sticking with something once I know I'm fully into the story and know I want to continue with whatever I'm reading at that time. Just, sometimes, it'll be a case like this. Predictable yet convoluted and poorly edited. There should be a drinking game for each time the author writes the redundant “bread rolls” , “clutch purse” or overuses terms like “messy bun”, “low ponytail” or “something seemed off”. Come on, we expect more from publishing house staff in an edit.
The slow pacing - when is something actually going to happen? - introduction of a pair of superfluous characters halfway through and the return of the clumsily foreshadowed “boy from childhood” trope made this novel a mess. Skip it.

For fans of the Only One Left by Riley Sager, you will love this story!!
Eden takes a job at the Covington Manor to care for Victor. He starts whispering to her to “help him” and that’s “he’s sorry”. What is he sorry for, what does he know, and what is he hiding?

A true page-turner! The suspense was well-paced. The ending kept delivering surprise after surprise, making it impossible to put the book down. Plenty of unexpected twists at the end.

The Woods Know Everything by Sabrina Wade. 4.5⭐️.
this book surprised me. i got this for free on my kindle and sometimes im iffy about free books…. they’re usually indie authors, which i have no issue with some are literally the BEST and some are just eh.
BUT THIS ONE … do not judge this book like this cover …. it’s very simplistic , but gorgeous in my opinion. i loved the fall leaves and the GORGEOUS mansion.
eden is a nurse that took a job to take care of a rich old man, who we think is basically an invalid , when suddenly he whispers a single sentence and the whole book blows up !
i throughly enjoyed this book. it was a WELL crafted , immersive thriller that had sooooo many secrets and chills!!!
the atmosphere was creepy and had the hairs on the back of my neck sticking up for most of the book.
if you have a kindle find this book ASAP (if it’s still available)

Not a bad book, interesting at times. But too obvious and slow moving. The narrator seemed to try hard to make it more interesting by blatant foreshadowing, which I really didn't like. Wouldn't recommend.

Very predictable and also very slow. I also really did not care for the narration. It made Eden seem/ sound like a nurse in her 60’s, with the rest of the staff being teenagers.

In WHAT world do you find a woman locked on the 3rd floor against her will and decide you’re not going straight to the police?! Im always willing to suspend disbelief for the sake of fiction but come on. You literally speak to a women who tell you she’s been locked up for a long time and instead of immediately calling the cops you text your best maid friend that you can’t wait to “catch her up” on what you found tomorrow??? What the hell?? Then the next morning you contemplate having some cinnamon bread before going to town where the driver asks if he should to the station but you and bff decide “no then they’ll know it was us and we’ll get in trouble” WHAT?!?!? THERE IS A WOMAN BEING HELD UPSTAIRS?!? Girl are you worried about your jobs????? There is literally no meaning for this action. I refuse to read further because this is absolute ridiculous nonsense.

Listen—when a rich, creepy family hires you to take care of their silent, possibly spooky patriarch in a giant manor surrounded by sinister woods… maybe don’t take that job. But Eden Wells does, and THANK YOU, MA’AM, because this book is juicy!
What starts as a quiet nursing gig turns into a full-blown gothic mystery buffet: secret tunnels? Check. Whispering old man? Check. Forbidden floors? Creepy woods that know things? Check, check, and CHECK. The pacing grabs you by the collar from chapter one and never lets go. Sabrina Wade’s writing is lush and eerie with that “just one more chapter at midnight” energy. Eden is a tough, relatable heroine with trauma to unpack and courage to spare, and the supporting cast (shoutout to ride-or-die Greta) is just chef’s kiss.

Ugh, I really hate not finishing books but life is too short to spend it with junk.
Incongruous timelines - the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction was "last year" (2004) but the assistant is walking around with an IPad (which weren't widely used/popular until circa 2012ish... The editor should have reviewed the continuity more closely.
Dialogue written like ESL AI tries to make a whiny, clueless young woman sound likable.
^^unlikable and unrelatable protagonist. "Gee, I'm going to be broke and homeless if I lose this post but let me sneak around the mansion and snoop for no reason my first few weeks on the job!"
Tired plot of an elderly/non-communicative ward giving clues to some dastardly deed...
Introduction of a milquetoast potential love interest (but who I suspect may actually be a bad guy) in the aforementioned iPad loving assistant. (He's from Nashville but don't worry- he's cool because he only "secretly" loves country music- "especially Shania!") Please lord, send me patience... just writing this review is difficult as I have to recall the "plot."
Then Eden finds there's a woman locked in the attic (no surprises there! No delicate foreshadowing, and instead the author was obvious about what's to come.) ... but doesn't ask who the woman is and doesn't immediately call the police.
Yeah, that's where I stopped. Honestly couldn't care less if the trapped woman was Jesus in the tomb, I can't suffer through more dialogue between Eden and her insufferable sidekick (two gossipy maids who seem to have the work ethics of dung beetles trapped on their backs) to find out.
There are a lot of good mystery thrillers out there. This ain't one of them.

Eden Wells takes a job as nurse to the old patriarch, Victor Covington. But things are really strange when Eden hears weird tapping on the ceiling from the third floor, Nobody is allowed on the third floor or the feeling she is constantly being watched. Something is not right here, especially she can't help but feel that something is wrong. Many of the staff are too quiet in a sinister way and then Eden's Vincent talks for the first time in a long time. When he was coming out of his nearly vegetable state, he grabs Eden's arm whispering "They buried the wrong body" What in the world does that mean? It is obvious to Eden that she can't trust anyone there except her girlfriend, Greta. So she and Greta feel they have to figure all the strange things out. Even the woods holds secrets with graves found deep in the woods. This book has so many twists and turns and thrilling things happening, you are kept on the edge of your seat turning page after page until the amazing ending! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put the book down! If you like well written thrillers that grab you and hold you until the end, this is the book for you! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

THE WOODS KNOW EVERYTHING is a standalone thriller by Sabrina Wade. I've read three books by Ms Wade and enjoyed the character development and world building in all three. You'll find family drama, secrets, betrayal and nail-biting situations, and suspense. There are so many unexpected plot twists that keep you turning the pages.
Eden grew up in a mansion as the daughter of staff. Beau, the owner's son, was her only and best friend. Life was great until it wasn't.
Now she's in another mansion caring for the ailing owner. This is not a happy place. She's made a couple of friends, but they all feel an oppressive air about everything. There is no laughter, people pass without speaking, and there are so many rules. Then there are the whispers about the third floor with no access, secret passages, and even secret burials.
I highly recommend getting a copy for yourself. I received this book as a member of the ARC team, and the above is my honest review.

The Woods Know Everything is one of those stories that completely surprised me. If I had judged this book by its cover, I might have skipped it, but I’m so glad I didn’t. What looks quiet on the outside turns out to be a richly written thriller that plays like a movie in your head as you read.

So this was actually a pretty good mystery. I liked the premise and the plot kept moving forward with action and adventure. A home-care nurse is taking care of an elderly patient, who cannot speak or move, in his sprawling mansion…..which happens to be in the middle of nowhere, and his adult children reside there with him, as well as an entire staff of “help”. When he suddenly grabs her wrist and whispers “They buried the wrong body” before falling back into his unresponsive state, she begins a crazy story arc of dark family secrets, drama, twists, and murder. There are a smattering of side characters that are incredibly endearing and help to bring the mysteries to light. However, many things seem a bit far-fetched, and the MC has no survival instincts at all. Despite the glaring plot holes and over the top drama, it’s a fun mystery to get wrapped up in and did have some pretty good twists.

Being the private nurse for a wealthy man in a mansion who is non-responsive doesn’t exactly sound like the most exciting job but when the family is weirdly secretive and the third floor is off limits (oh, and there’s no access to it because a whole wall was build at the top of the staircase making it so no one can get there) but you hear tapping coming from the ceiling over your head .. from the third floor- you may get a bit curious. Eden could have bailed on this job but that’d be way less fun. Instead her and her new bestie, a housekeeper, Greta, decide to secretly investigate.
So many twists. As soon as you think the twists are done and the story must be concluding- there’s additional twists and the story is still moving along fantastically.
Anyways, I’ll definitely be checking out more by this author! :)

I absolutely loved this book! Sabrina Wade kills it in her longest book to date. The characters are charming and charismatic, you will connect with them as if they’re your close friends.
Eden Wells is down on her luck and needs another job. She applies to work as a private duty nurse for the prominent Covington family. She begins to have unusual interactions with her patient, Victor Covington. Working in this peculiar environment, with this strange family, Eden is about to experience just how bizarre things can get.
I would be elated if I could read books like this everyday! Wade is my kind of author, and I need more books from her immediately! I’m definitely a lifelong fan now!

This time, we’re with Eden Wells, a nurse just hired to care for the sick patriarch of the Covington family. However, Eden soon discovers that not everything is as it seems at Covington Manor and there are secrets upon secrets, all hinging upon one person. I really do enjoy reading anything by Sabrina Wade, and this story is no exception to that. The way she builds up the fear and terror and ever so slowly releases a bit of the plot at a time keeps my interest held. Sabrina Wade is a talented author of the thriller genre and I highly recommend her work!

Eden is hired as a private nurse to talk care of the head of the secretive elusive wealthy Covington family. However once Eden is at the estate she can't help but feel that something is wrong. So many of the staff are too quiet and then Eden's patient talks for the first time in forever out of the blue. Vincent, coming out of his nearly vegetable state, grabs Eden's arm whispering "They buried the wrong body". No Eden has no idea what this is about or who she can trust besides her friend Greta. But Eden along with Greta's help has to figure out what is going on at the Covington estate. This is a fast paced story with a ton of twists and turns including the final one. Fantastic book.

The Woods Know Everything doesn’t deliver the suspense, spookiness, or thrill that it implies. The writing and characters both had a juvenile feel— for example, the MC is preparing to investigate something and dig into the Covington family secrets, and responds with “now we have a team.”
The first 80% of the book was too drawn out, then the climax and thriller rushed into the final 20%. It felt disjointed.
The other downfall of this book was too many characters. Eden, Greta, Charlotte, Parker, Jocelyn, Roxanne, Sophia, Brooke, Clayton, Reed, Meredith, Beau, Jay, Ray, Jason, Josh??? I nearly needed a map to keep them all straight.
Needless to say, I wish I had the hours & hoopla borrow spent on this back.

Overall, this book was just okay for me. The ending saved it slightly because I was not expecting the twists at all.
The first 70% of the book was very slow for me, and I felt like not much was happening. I can see how that portion of the story helped set the stage for the twists at the end, but I still think the first half could have had more substance to keep me engaged.
The writing also felt a little juvenile at times, and I found myself getting irritated on more than one occasion. I did enjoy the twists and thought the ending was well done, but I struggled to stay engaged for most of the book.
This was my first Sabrina Wade book, and despite my issues with this one, I’m looking forward to picking up another one from her.

This book was 700+ pages and could easily have been about 300 if the author hadn't spent 400 of them describing every single detail, movement, & thought the main character made. Dear, let the reader imagine. I got the concept....and the author ALMOST conveyed it...but it was bogged down. Overuse of words like "calculated" or needing to repeat phrases over & over again. Building up to something only to have it fizzle out. I felt bad for the main character because the author made her so annoying. And it wasn't just that the main character was annoying but the author's portrayal of her. Don't get me started on the title and how it really had no major past in the book.
This is definitely a DNF book but I made it through thanks to the audiobook!!

I can forgive a lot of things before I take off stars like this, but I just, ughhhh. It was entertaining enough but that’s it! The storyline made no sense, I kinda resented the author’s constant reminding of what characters were from where EVEN IN THE EPILOGUE! 😩 like sis we read this thing cover to cover, we KNOW who Hans is, we KNOW who Wallace is. Jesus.
It’s also not explained why the story takes place in 2005, but somehow they have this access to this super high-tech security system. Normally if the story takes place an even number ago, like 20 years, it means the author is going to advance to present day and uncover the secrets.
But no. It stayed confusing. It stayed not making any sense. 2/5

Suspiciously tense!
Eden has been given a job opportunity to start a fresh at Covington Manor as the nurse for old Victor Covington.
When she arrives, she is in awe of the house and grounds, but there is a strange feeling she gets walking the halls. Like being watched perhaps?
The longer she stays there the more stranger things become and she knows there are secrets buried there. So why can’t she shake the feeling that she must get to the bottom of this mystery.
This book kept me guessing the whole time. A page turner right to the end! Great read!

Wow!!! Get this book.
This book will give you chills over and over. I felt like I was watching a movie. I got so involved in the story I didn't want to put it down. I will tell you its a long book but you won't realize it because this is so hard to put down you'll probably stay up late. I did and sure wasn't disappointed a bit. You won't any distractions because you don't want to put it down. Lock your doors and just enjoy. This is, in my opinion her best one yet. Don't miss out and enjoy it and tell your friends. They won't be disappointed either and you can talk it over later with them. I read a lot of books but this is at the top of my list.🤓
