I Love a forbidden love story!!
Best Alien/Monster Sex Love story I've read in a while with fully developed characters and plot.
Some of my Goodreads friends love tentacle sex (I don't judge). I can honestly say I'm not a fan of tentacles.
The hero has tentacles but thank goodness this book did not have any tentacle sex. Just a good old fashion penis!
Too many books of this genre aren't fleshed out as a full novel, but are novellas with great sex but not a well developed storyline. The series has great world building and character development.
I look forward to more of this series!

What an unexpected little gem. Thank you, Melanie, for this find, because I think I will read more of this world.
It's been my first book about this kind of merpeople, but damn I liked it. It was well written, I liked the characters and their slow dance around each other.
Of course, as all the stories about aliens, it was totally fetishized, completely improbable and utterly unrealistic, but if you roll with it, you also get a sweet love story of two different yet so similar creatures, who are ready to give up anything to find happiness together.
So yeah, it was sweet, romantic and hot.

This actually turned out to be an enjoyable read! In the beginning, I wasn't the biggest fan. Our heroine gets caught in a storm and is rescued by a Kraken who keeps her captive. The two just hang out and it was kind of boring to me until they finally got off that island and decided to be together. Then, we finally got background of the dynamics between the kraken and humans and why the kraken hated humans so much. While the monster dynamic took a bit getting used to in the steamy scenes, I actually believed their romance and wanted them to be together. Once there was more world building, I really enjoyed this book and couldn't wait to see how the story would end.

She agree’s to go out on Camrin’s boat even though she hates going out on the water ever since she lost her sister in a drowning accident.
The Heroes: Jax - a Kraken. He is known as a wanderer among his people because he is a loner and has a need to explore and be out in the open. Though he is also a proficient hunter and helps his people on hunts.
The Story: Macy had loved the water when she was a kid. Her father was a fisherman and she had stayed away from the water for years, but Camrin had dreamed of having his own boat and finally had it and wanted to take Macy to see something. She was sure he was going to propose that night, so agreed to go out with him because it was important to him. Though a sudden storm hits and Macy is swept overboard and wakes up in a cave near an abandoned underwater facility filled with old items and a humanoid creature named Jax who speaks english.
The book starts out with the statement “361 years after landing”. But then doesn’t immediately explain what that means. Macy lives someplace called “The Watch” on Halora. I am not exactly sure what “The Watch” is or means, but it seems Halora is a planet. So it seems they landed on Halora for the purpose of colonization 361 years ago. It took me a bit to figure this out. I think it could have been explained better.
I have been reading a lot of alien romance lately so thought this one would be similar. Though sometimes when the alien or creature differs so much from humans, it is just a bit too hard to believe that a romance would happen. The story wasn’t bad, but I just couldn’t get into it like I do with most books.
The book was told in dual points of view with two narrators. Hollie Jackson and Ryan Turner did the narration and both did a fine job, but nothing was exceptional about the audiobook.

While I really enjoyed this book and look forward to future books in this new series I do have some concerns.
Let me start with the basic story, I loved it, a race of beings that were genetically engineered by ancient colonists, to be slaves are living fairly peacefully generations (centuries?) later after overthrowing their human masters makes this an almost automatic "I love that plot".
Jax upsets the balance of the human/kraken who are both living almost unknown of the others existence by rescuing Macy from certain death in a storm. The slow acceptance and evolution into a romance requires a small bit of insta-love/lust to move it along.
The story does not follow the direction you might think and there are some unexpected twists and turns which add to the readers enjoyment but there are some sex scenes that may or may not appeal to some folks since the kraken are "equipped" with all the needed equipment for sex they still have those tentacles so your mental image may vary.
Bottom Line: Aside from the mental images the reader might have the story was exceptional, the characters gripping and not cardboard cutouts but 4 Stars for seeming to overlook a few minor things that I might not have thought about if I had not been a reader of Grace Draven's "Wraith Kings" series. While it does have a small bit of Beauty & the Beast vibe it is totally unlike that story in pretty much everything other than the obvious situation. 4 Stars and maybe more but I want to read more of this world.

"For her, anything."Now this is how you turn an 'I'm sorry, what?' story about a kraken and a human into an 'OMG, that was pretty wonderful! story about true love against all odds.

Even the thought of his tentacles caressing her made her shiver - not with repulsion, but with want.. . . it was mostly sweet, and involved a Hero who was devoted to his mate.
Instinct demanded he do anything he could to make her happy; her sadness was a blade twisting inside him.I really enjoyed Macy and Jax's journey and I'll definitely continue with the series!

Lots of hype about this book. Pity it's totally unwarranted ;P
This is NA, ergo pretty silly heroine, plot and setting too. Moving in space doesn't change anything, it's still stupid, unbelievable and insta everything. You just add the ick factor of sex with Ursula (some of it were ugh? His lower part are octopus, and how the heck does he breathe and walk on land???).
Get rid of the Aquaman hype: you see a teen oh so suffering because her family/society mistreats her, she's saved/kidnapped by enemy hero. As soon as the 2 see each other they fall in lust. She's from a village but her mind is open and doesn't scream bloody murder at seeing him.
Let me say that I skim read to 50% just because, at this point, I was damn curious about the sex, as I said Ursula... Honestly it's no way anything new. Just so you know :P Nor was it hot, as you damn well need to be involved to be interested in...
I haven't finished it, but I am pretty sure I know what it's going to happen...
It's KU or 4 bucks, and I was seriously tempted to ask those back. But I did get to halfway point...

Oh my gosh! If you love Eve Langlais and Ruby Dixon ... you are gonna love this story from Tiffany Roberts!
I really didn't know how I would feel about a hero that was so 'alien' from humans yet so very human! But I fell in love with Jax! He is wonderful and kind and sexy and different! LOL
"Because you are a treasure I plucked from the sea, and you are mine!'' Sigh....
And Macy is brave and adventurous and sweet and sexy. I just fell in love with both of them and you will too!
Wonderful world building and a story that is defiantly different!
These two lovers have to go through a lot to get their HEA but they come through and they get a baby too!

THIS WAS AMAZING! If you're a fan of Ruby Dixon's big blue aliens and dragons YOU WILL LOVE THIS!
Sweet hero, adorable heroine. Lots of action/adventure and allllll the swoons. Crazy hot and lots of detailed world building that tells me the authors were fantasy readers before they decided to write.
I'm totally jumping into book 2 because the supporting characters were so compelling I can't wait for their stories!

My preferred escapism seems to be romance with a twist or two.
This was an healthy and sweet romance but with a sea creature, a kraken. Interesting world building and information about the krakens. An engaging story but not a new favorite. 3.5 stars.

When I saw the cover and then read the blurb I thought "OK, it's not everyday that you get to read a book like this one" and so I gave it a try. I didn't really know what to expect but the story was more "normal" than what I thought it would be, with all the kraken creatures and the new world. I mean, I did wonder how they would have intimacy but it turned out pretty all right, well at least for the situation they were in. I don't know, it didn't weird me out or anything. So that's a good sign, right? As far as the plot, it did get slightly boring at times and the ending felt a bit underwhelmind, at least to me. I just wanted more from the story and characters. I didn't love them but I also didn't dislike them. To be honest the book was just on OK read for me. Not amazing but also not bad. I don't know, maybe some readers will love it, so I guess it's better to give it a try yourself and perhaps you'll like the story more than me.

A futuristic story where the current population is living like peasants and have forgotten the technology and history for some reason. This story takes place on Halora, with Earth’s ancestors as farmers and fishermen.
There are a few different species of carnivorous plant native to Halora. That one's the most dangerous. If it doesn’t get enough sustenance, it can actually uproot and drag itself to a new hunting ground.What? Nope, nope nope!
It’s a story of prejudices, historical mysteries, and unconditional love. A steamy tentacle romance done very well.

This wasn't as anticipated, luckily doesn't really have any terrible and problematic content, but ultimately it was underwhelming for me.
This sort of weird thing makes my recovering-weeaboo self think of tentacle hentai, but what we have is more along the lines of an alien erotica and not what I imagine when I think of tentacle hentai, though I suppose "alien" isn't the right word because the kraken didn't organically develop on an alien planet but are the creation of human scientists on an alien planet. I'm not sure how to categorize that so I'm just going to say alien.
The kraken aren't just random sea monsters on Earth, which was what I was personally anticipating, they're human-octopus genetic spliced creatures made by humans as a labor force on an alien planet that humans colonized ages ago, so that means that kraken and human are genetically similar enough to have traditional penetrative sex and procreate.
There's nothing especially weird going on despite the authors' attempts to make the male lead rather inhuman; like he's a bald slit-nosed human torso with color-changing skin and claws and sharp teeth on top of a mass of tentacles. His dick just retreats into his body when not needed and when he's aroused it slides out. Typical alien/sci-fi erotica kind of stuff, nothing new.
I suppose I'm somewhat desensitized because alien erotica is a genre I've dived into multiple times and it's easy to see a pattern with their execution so I look for things that are unconventional and different, but this ultimately reads much like a lot of other alien erotica stories.
Ultimately, it's good that it's not traditional tentacle hentai because it often becomes very aggressive rape and sodomy with lots of restraint of an unwilling victim. This, thankfully, features consensual sex that's pretty standard of erotica; they are both willing and it's ultimately depicted as being enthusiastic and affectionate with Jax calling Macy his mate and feeling monogamous devotion to her and wanting to protect and provide for her and Macy forgoing her life amongst humans to be with him and embrace his life.
In all honestly, Jax's tentacles don't do much more than like wrap around Macy a few times and like stroke/suck at her clit and there's mention of him using the suction cups to taste her (since octopi have the ability to taste with them). There's no penetration, which I suppose is a missed opportunity. Usually when a monster or alien in an erotica has an additional appendage it's used within the context of the sex scenes to a pretty high degree (like in Rapunzel and the Dark Prince the darklings' tails are commonly used to penetrate their partners and in Ruth's Bonded the Gandrys' fuzzy tails are utilized for a variety of sexual purposes). I wonder if the authors decided against it because they wanted to distance their series from typical tentacle hentai or if it was just incidental that they didn't take full advantage of all the tentacles in this story (there's like 4 other books in this series so maybe it occurs in those).
One thing that I will say is that this erotica has over a lot of others is that there's a fully formed plot. A lot of erotica is a very short and direct tale where a general sort of premise is established but the only real intention of the plot is to work in as many sex scenes as possible. This erotica, while it does have a few sex scenes, also focuses on the relationship development, the world building, conflicts, and maintains a somewhat full story line. The sex scenes do not completely overshadow the story, which is good! I think this book probably performs very well in a lot of readers' hands because of it.
I just wasn't impressed personally; I've read a lot of things that are similar to this that I liked more so it's ultimately just sort of "thank you, next" for me as a reader.
I'm giving it like a basis 2.5-3 rating because while I personally didn't really care for it there's not much I can point out about it being bad. A lot of my personal criticisms have to do with the logistics of the octopus-man creatures and the fact that Macy really easily resigns herself to being with Jax after a matter of a few days. Though luckily it didn't take mind-blowing alien sex to convince her; like they don't have sex until she's already promised to stay and be with him which I personally found refreshing. I really dislike heroines who orgasm and then lose their minds and become simpering idiots who only think and act in pursuit of more orgasms.
This sort of weird thing makes my recovering-weeaboo self think of tentacle hentai, but what we have is more along the lines of an alien erotica and not what I imagine when I think of tentacle hentai, though I suppose "alien" isn't the right word because the kraken didn't organically develop on an alien planet but are the creation of human scientists on an alien planet. I'm not sure how to categorize that so I'm just going to say alien.
The kraken aren't just random sea monsters on Earth, which was what I was personally anticipating, they're human-octopus genetic spliced creatures made by humans as a labor force on an alien planet that humans colonized ages ago, so that means that kraken and human are genetically similar enough to have traditional penetrative sex and procreate.
There's nothing especially weird going on despite the authors' attempts to make the male lead rather inhuman; like he's a bald slit-nosed human torso with color-changing skin and claws and sharp teeth on top of a mass of tentacles. His dick just retreats into his body when not needed and when he's aroused it slides out. Typical alien/sci-fi erotica kind of stuff, nothing new.
I suppose I'm somewhat desensitized because alien erotica is a genre I've dived into multiple times and it's easy to see a pattern with their execution so I look for things that are unconventional and different, but this ultimately reads much like a lot of other alien erotica stories.
Ultimately, it's good that it's not traditional tentacle hentai because it often becomes very aggressive rape and sodomy with lots of restraint of an unwilling victim. This, thankfully, features consensual sex that's pretty standard of erotica; they are both willing and it's ultimately depicted as being enthusiastic and affectionate with Jax calling Macy his mate and feeling monogamous devotion to her and wanting to protect and provide for her and Macy forgoing her life amongst humans to be with him and embrace his life.
In all honestly, Jax's tentacles don't do much more than like wrap around Macy a few times and like stroke/suck at her clit and there's mention of him using the suction cups to taste her (since octopi have the ability to taste with them). There's no penetration, which I suppose is a missed opportunity. Usually when a monster or alien in an erotica has an additional appendage it's used within the context of the sex scenes to a pretty high degree (like in Rapunzel and the Dark Prince the darklings' tails are commonly used to penetrate their partners and in Ruth's Bonded the Gandrys' fuzzy tails are utilized for a variety of sexual purposes). I wonder if the authors decided against it because they wanted to distance their series from typical tentacle hentai or if it was just incidental that they didn't take full advantage of all the tentacles in this story (there's like 4 other books in this series so maybe it occurs in those).
One thing that I will say is that this erotica has over a lot of others is that there's a fully formed plot. A lot of erotica is a very short and direct tale where a general sort of premise is established but the only real intention of the plot is to work in as many sex scenes as possible. This erotica, while it does have a few sex scenes, also focuses on the relationship development, the world building, conflicts, and maintains a somewhat full story line. The sex scenes do not completely overshadow the story, which is good! I think this book probably performs very well in a lot of readers' hands because of it.
I just wasn't impressed personally; I've read a lot of things that are similar to this that I liked more so it's ultimately just sort of "thank you, next" for me as a reader.
I'm giving it like a basis 2.5-3 rating because while I personally didn't really care for it there's not much I can point out about it being bad. A lot of my personal criticisms have to do with the logistics of the octopus-man creatures and the fact that Macy really easily resigns herself to being with Jax after a matter of a few days. Though luckily it didn't take mind-blowing alien sex to convince her; like they don't have sex until she's already promised to stay and be with him which I personally found refreshing. Holy crap. This was such a good read!
I mean. Hello. It had everything. Plot, sex, tentacles, danger, a little bit of capturing, keeping her prisoner….and every single element was just done so well.
This takes place on a completely different world, many centuries in the future. Though the humans live very similarly to how a small farming community would on Earth, the terrain is different. The tech is much more advanced. Everyone has their job in the community. Everyone contributes.
Macy herself is a gardener though she helps out wherever she’s needed.
And then she gets rescued/captured by Jax, and she’s brought into a whole different side of the world she’s never known even existed.
Jax. Oh my god.
Look. TB Trepagnier showed me that Kraken could be hot in her Monster Whisper trilogy. Hell she showed me pretty much any monster could be hot.
But Tiffany just fucking confirmed it.
He is so curious, and a bit cautious at first. Then he turns possessive and protective and gets even hotter.
The sex was absolutely explosive between these two. Not a ton of tentacle play involved here. Though they do tease, there is no penetration, which is fine. It was hot either way.
The plot was well thought out. Exciting. Never a moment where I thought that this book wasn’t moving along exactly in the way that it should.
The characters were well developed. Evolving still throughout the story. Even the side characters we meet along the way experiencing growth. Which was so satisfying.
The world was built beautifully. There’s language, culture, politics, history, and plenty more to learn so the next books will hopefully have some answers and the world will expand. The history will deepen.
I was just so fucking pleased with everything I just read.
I will definitely be reading the next book. I can’t wait to see what more is uncovered. Plus I need to see Arken and Aymee get their HEA.

Well okay! This was completely out of the norm for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. When you think of tentacles and…sex, well you know. However, this was so much better than I thought it would be. I absolutely loved Jax and his extreme protectiveness over Macy. Add in his jealous possessive tendencies and he rocketed himself up my hero list. Gotta admit, the tentacle thing did detract a bit from it all but the further into the book I read the more I adjusted to it.
This was a very well written, very well developed story with two characters that both hungered for freedom. And well, yeah, of course the gaining of it is the big conflict. There were some rough patches for this couple to get through in order to find their happy ever after.
With a fast pace, some great secondary characters I’m sure we’ll see again, and plenty of steam, this is a great book to try if you’re a bit adventurous in your reading…which I am usually not. I’m glad I took a chance and tried it and I’m sure I’ll move on to the other books in the series as well.

I never expected to like this book so much. It was a nice surprise that it manages to capture a great deal of the characters aspects without it dragging on for too long.
It was rather refreshing to read an adult romance fantasy book that doesn't focus only on one thing like so many other books do. It had everything, body and soul, a good story structure, strong leading characters, interesting supporting characters and closure.
It felt real and down-to-earth. I never once thought it exaggerating nor did I find it strange bringing these seemingly different races together. This book brings a fresh vibe to what we all know today as racism. Regardless of colour, shape, religion, we are all the same and what matters is that we embrace all natures, individualities and diversities.
I just loved how the author has managed to point out the qualities and characteristics of her main characters that distinguish them from the others. The love and fear for the mighty sea; the need for freedom and adventure, the sense of responsibility and family; the need to love and to be loved; not having been taught what love is and yet recognizing it for what it is once it is there.
This story was just beautiful and for a change it was simply amazing to read a book with detailed sex scenes without it being crude or too much. It was romantic and sweet with a rather calming sense of adventure.

Fabulous read by Tiffany Roberts! Imagine getting rescued from certain death by a sexy as sin sea creature with tentacles.
Macy is a nice young woman plagued with guilt for a childhood mistake which led to the death of her sister. Convinced she must do penance, she devotes her life to the good of others and trying to please her parents at the cost of her own happiness. When she meets Jax, her world is turned upside down and she's forced to face her demons, her true desires, as well as the past of her colony she knew nothing about.
Jax breaks so many rules of his people for her but she fills the void that has isolated him from them. They truly are soulmates and I love how the relationship grows between them. I especially loved how the author addressed more serious topic through the story such as tolerance, forgiveness and the "sins of the father" where you shouldn't punish someone else for the crimes of others.
Nothing irks me more than a cliché villain whose being a dick just because your story needs the drama. So I was really happy to see Tiffany didn't fall into that trap. The characters were well-rounded and even when I didn't necessarily agree with their choices, they made sense based on their personalities and situation.
I can't wait to read Arkon's story!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Terrific world-building, a super-relatable conflict for a scifi romance novel and. aheeo with tentacles. I mean, what else could a girl want? Seriously, you'd think the part-cephalopod hero would be played for shock value, but he isn't. It's ultra-romantic with lots of suspense and interesting twists and turns. I really liked how it explored every aspect of the couple's relationship, including his society, hers, the takes of men, women and children and the journey of the couple itself. I'm going straight on to the next one and hoping this husband and wife writing duo write many, many more books!

This was excellent, I'm a huge fan of this author team and this totally delivered for me and was such an easy and enticing read. The romance was a beautiful one and I appreciated that this was not a high angst romance, these two fall for each other practically instantly, though the physical part does take a while to evolve, mostly because of just how different they both are.
It's set on another planet so technically you could class this as belonging to the sci-fi genre, but honestly, it didn't really feel that sci-fi. It's set on the planet Halora, 361 years after landing and not much is known of the past and just how this has all come to be. But the main point is this isn't Earth and the humans are descendants of the earlier colonists. Macy's home is called the Watch and her people are basically Hunter-gatherers, fishermen and the like and they do also seem pretty low-tech.
Macy has been putting off her joining with her childhood best friend for years, she just doesn't feel the same way as him, but the time has come when she can no longer drag her feet, a decision has to be made. On the boat trip out to finalise everything they are hit with some bad weather and Macy thinks it's the end, she's swept away into the ocean and loses consciousness. Awakening in a cave she's surprised and shocked when a humanoid male who is quite obviously very different reveals himself as her rescuer.
Jax is a Krakkan he's a human and octopoid hybrid something Macy had no idea even existed and they've been living on Halora hidden deep beneath the ocean for as long as the humans have occupied the planet. There's also a violent history between the two races that makes him naturally suspicious and he's adamant that even though he has saved her life he cannot allow her to go home to her people, as this will place his people in danger of discovery.
This was such a feel-good read the romance between Macy and Jax was so sweet and heartwarming. They have a lot to overcome including the prejudice of both of their people. There are also some who are naturally disgusted seeing their bond as unnatural.
This was well-written and had such an intriguing story and I'm excited now to read the other books in the series. I recommend this if you like your romance heroes very alien-looking as Jax doesn't have legs but tentacles and is as alien as they come. He's also a complete poppet and adores Macy even willing to go against his own to protect her from harm.
I also loved that this was dual POV so you get an insight into both of their mindsets this was especially crucial and appreciated when they are falling for each other. Overall this was an emotive read that I highly recommend for all my monster romance girlies.

What? A KRAKEN hero? Oh yes. I knew I had to file this book away to try sometime. I decided now was the time. I have disliked pretty much everything I've read. Some have been okay, but I haven't had any 5 stars. I needed to break out of HR, maybe. Everything was the same. How different can you get? I told my husband I had a kraken lover and he repeatedly asked me questions about the book. I think he's jealous. Lol.
So this planet is not Earth, though it's basically earth like. Humans colonized it long ago, but much of the history has been lost over time. The village Rose lives in has a very historic feel. A lot of the book takes place in a cave where Jax and Rose get to know each other, obviously very rustic, though she does find a device that plays music for one of the scenes. They also go to Jax's colony home and there is running water there and some devices/computers.
Macy lives a boring life in their village as a gardener. She's been friends with Camrin since childhood and he has been courting her for 6-7 years. She knows the time has finally come to tell him she's ready for the joining, even though she knows he's not right for her. He is like a brother and she has no sexual feelings for him, but doesn't have the heart to tell him. She's convinced herself she will develop feelings after their joining. Macy lost her sister at sea years ago and has avoided it since, so she's extra hesitant when Camrin requests to take her out on a boat for the special night. She puts her fear aside and joins him. Once on board, it's not long before a storm hits and she is tossed overboard. She's rescued by Jax, the kraken.
Jax is known to his people as the wanderer. He helps when needed but his heart is outside their colony, always exploring and collecting things. Once he collects Rose from the sea, he knows he must stop her from returning to her people. But he finds it's more than his people's protection that he forces her to stay with him.
I had NO IDEA what to expect with this book. And I rather loved a lot of it. I've heard it referenced as erotica, but I don't think that fits. There are a number of explicit scenes but they happen later in the book. There's plenty of plot, danger, problems to solve, sexual tension, and human kraken sex. But sex definitely isn't the focus of the book.
My complaints about the book are mainly Rose. She cried a lot and that always annoys me. At least it was pointed out that she cries a lot haha. But overall I really liked it. Would I try another? Fuck yes.
