Falling Hard At Pumpkin Spice Cabins : Love at first fall

Rate this book
When Maine bookstore owner and workaholic Tessa Monroe spots a social media ad for a Halloween-themed singles retreat at a remote lakefront campground, she signs up expecting cozy cabins, haunted hayrides, lakeside cocktails, and maybe a harmless October fling. Love? That’s definitely not on her fall to-do list.

Enter Rowan Kane—tattooed, brooding, and annoyingly mysterious—who’s holed up in one of the larger cabins on the property. But when a masked figure turns the campground’s haunted hayride into a real-life nightmare, Rowan is the first to jump in and protect her.

With the masked villain still on the loose, Rowan insists Tessa stay with him—for safety, of course. The cabin? Huge. The hot tub? Steamy. The bed? Just one. And Rowan? Six feet of inked-up temptation with eyes as sharp as his sarcasm.

A cozy, spooky Halloween romantic comedy where falling in love might just be the scariest trick of all.

A cute and cozy rom-com! This is definitely outside of what I normally read but I loved it.
The first comment is Rowan’s audacity with his “I’m not the kind of man most women fall for.” Then explains how he reads, cooks, and is rich. That was a good laugh at the beginning because who isn’t looking for that!? Also I have found my new favorite term: “emotionally constipated.”
This is also the first ever ARC I was approved for so it makes it extra special. Overall this is a perfect fall read and I highly recommend!❤️

Falling Hard at Pumpkin Spice Cabins is the ultimate cozy Autumn read. 🤎

Think Hallmark romance, with a touch of spooky Halloween vibes, sprinkled with just the right amount of spice… Pumpkin Spice that is 🎃

The slow burn between Tessa and Rowan is top tier.

Throw in a supernatural masked-man that threatens to terrorize their cozy cabin getaway and you have a solid spooky season hit!

ARC Review :
I wanted to love this book but it wasn't a top read for me, it was still an enjoyable story just feel like author tried to cram too many things into one book. Also trying to hit all the tropes in one book - Meet-Cute, Close Proximity, Second chance, Cozy autumn read with Halloween, Ghosts and snow storm, and trying to mention Instagram and popular books just seemed a bit much.
As much as I liked the slow burn and banter it was very heavy on the sarcastic banter which just felt forced. I think I would of enjoyed it a bit more if things were stripped back a bit.

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and will be voluntarily be giving my honest review. This book was phenomenal had that cozy but spooky feel. Loved it!! Had me intrigued and i actually felt spooked and some parts!! Loved how she incorporated the recipes at the end of the chapter for what the charters made. Love the dynamics of the FMC Tessa and MMC Rowan. My favorite quote from this book was “Hocus Pocus I need Coffee to Focus”!

Falling Hard At Pumpkin Spice Cabins is the ultimate fall romance read! 🍂✨

This book had everything I wanted for the season: cozy vibes, a touch of mystery, and a swoony love story I couldn’t put down. Tessa and Rowan meet by chance in her bookstore (love at first sight!) and later fate brings them together again at a pumpkin spice singles retreat – and that’s when the real magic begins. Their relationship felt so natural: reading together, sharing book references, and having the sweetest, funniest, and most heartwarming moments.

The Hallmark-style fall setting was perfection – I could picture every scene and almost smell the pumpkin spice. The subtle “ghost” mystery added a fun twist, and I adored that Tessa’s recipes were included in the book (perfect snack break while reading!).

Rowan was such a gentleman (protective, kind, AND he reads romance – total dream guy 💕). Maddie as the best friend/side character was hilarious, relatable, and the perfect balance for Tessa.

If you’re into cozy fall vibes, bookstores, pumpkin spice, and heart-melting romance, this is a must-read for your autumn TBR. 🍁📚

This book was so cute. It has hilarious banter, a sassy kitten and cozy fall vibes. It also gave me Supernatural meets Hallmark vibes. I love Tessa's fiery personality and where can I get myself a Rowan because he is the perfect book boyfriend.

A slow burn, forced proximity, cosy Autumn romance with a spooky twist. Told from dual point of view from main characters Tessa and Rowan. I enjoyed hearing both sides of the story from their different perspectives. However the chapters were very dialogue heavy and I often found myself getting confused by who was talking and having to go back to figure it out.

I enjoyed the slow burn romance between Tessa and Rowan. Their characters did complement each other well and I enjoyed watching their story unfold. Styled as a rom com, I did chuckle out loud many times but personally I felt that it was trying to be funny a little too often. Tessa and Roman were constantly teasing each other and being sarcastic and at times it felt maybe a little repetitive. I wasn’t a fan of Tessa’s best friend Maddie either as she just seemed obnoxious. I did however adore Pixie. Who doesn’t love a sassy little kitten.

I enjoyed all of the current pop references in the book, it made me feel like I was in their world too which was fun. It was very descriptive and really set the scene for a cosy fall aesthetic. Without giving away any spoilers I did enjoy the spooky side to the story too. My only complaint was that it felt a little thrown in there and unfinished. I wish we had gotten more from it. Even in the epilogue we don’t really get any real answers.

Overall I give this book 3 stars. It was a fun fall romance but I wouldn’t want to read it again. I always encourage you to read the book though to decide for yourself as this is just my opinion and I didn’t find the writing style to be my cup of tea.

Title: Falling Hard At Pumpkin Spice Cabins
Author: @moremysticalthantypical

Release Date: 09/15

Tropes
🍁Forced proximity
🍁Cozy Fall vibes
🍁Bookstore owner
🍁Campground romance

I would like to start off by thanking @moremysticalthantypical for this gifted ARC and the opportunity of being part of by far one of the best street teams ever!!

The book:

Taking place in Bedford Harbor, Maine this story follows bookstore owner Tessa Monroe. After Tessa’s father died she took everything he left her and built Happily Ever After. One late evening Tessa finds herself sipping on whiskey and talking to a cardboard version of Henry Cavill when a stranger walks into Happily Ever After. This being her first of many encounters with Rowan.

A change in events happens when Tessa books a cabin at a Halloween themed singles retreat. Once there, she bumps into Rowan sparking a cozy and spooky campground romance full of libidinous banter and a "steamy" hot tub.

My thoughts:

Ohh boy!! Did I love this story? Yes!!! I was a sucker for all the flirtatious banter and that hot tub had me wanting to book myself a retreat… I just need me a Rowan lol

In all I absolutely adored this story and recommend it to all my bookish followers

Happy Reading!!

I picked up Falling Hard at Pumpkin Spice Cabins hoping for a cozy, autumn escape, and in many ways, it delivered. I loved the pumpkin-scented cabins, crisp fall air, and small-town charm. It really made me want to curl up with a blanket and a warm drink. The romance started off sweet and slow, with little moments that felt genuine… though I have to admit, some parts felt a bit rushed, which was confusing given how much the story emphasizes taking things slowly.

Then, around 60%, things suddenly took a turn toward thriller territory. I wasn’t expecting it, and honestly, it never fully went anywhere before flipping back to romance. That shift felt a little jarring, like the story couldn’t quite decide what it wanted to be.

Even so, I still enjoyed the cozy fall vibes and the cute moments between the characters. It wasn’t perfect, and the pacing threw me off at times, but it was still a fun, seasonal read. Overall, I’d give it 3.5 stars: pleasant and charming, just not quite as seamless as I hoped.

Okay, yikes..This was actually so hard to read and 2 stars may be generous. I actually had the hardest time reading this and had to force myself to finish it.
Structure/storyline: Lacked consistency..our MCs meet outside of the pumpkin spice cabins only to end up at this singles retreat together, only end up spending time with each other, there is barely any mention EVER about the retreat and any activities and then they end up on a camping trip at a haunted lake to try and decipher some unknown murders that took place there decades ago?
Weird. It just felt all over the place and very unenjoyable.

Side note, very early into the book, the first night our MMC stays in the same cabin as our FMC during a snowstorm, he stays on her couch and he gets himself off thinking about how hot our FMC is and gets it all over her blanket and tries hiding the evidence the next morning, only to end up confessing to what he had done?! Gross. Weird. Immediate turn off.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🥵 some moments between the two were way too spicy for my liking and seemed really cringey.

Writing: Felt like it tried too hard to be relevant to today, too much mention of books, movies & lingo taking place that were a turn off for me. I read to forget about the real world and feel immersed/forget where I am. I don’t want to read like I’m in the real world.

Redeeming factors: took place in fall and they did read some fall books, watch some Halloween movies and attend a costume contest at the very end. That was fun!

ARC REVIEW!

This book really was a delight to read - the banter is honestly unmatched.

Things I enjoyed A LOT: the cozy cabin vibes, the found kitty, that the spice was hot and well earned and I adored the way our MMC and FMC interacted.

Things I wish I had more of : answers! I still have so many questions.

All around this was a fun, cozy book that I would absolutely recommend to all my book besties.

I knew from the start that this book would be a 5 star read. The way the author made this entire story so personal had me clinging to my kindle and not wanting to put it down. I loved the hallmark fall vibes and the way she described everything so I could actually picture it. Tessa & Rowan were the essential hallmark happily ever after romance that I needed to kick me into gear for the fall season. I absolutely loved all of the book references and the funny banter between the FMC and MMC. This book was *chefs kiss*

Grab your favorite drink and blanket and get cozy to your couch because this one is such a fun to read.
This is the ultimate fall vibe read that you don't want to miss. It got everything that I ever wanted in one book. Think Hallmark romance, with a touch of spooky Halloween vibes, cozy cabins, pumpkin spice goodness, farmers markets, dreamy autumn décor, haunted hayrides, a steamy hot tub moment🫣🤭, and of course, a totally swoon-worthy romance... Then this book is definitely yours!

“Hi. I’m Tessa Monroe. I’m here to test the limits of my social battery and possibly meet my future mistake.” Me too, girl. Me too.

I loved so very much about this book, so I'll just get right to it.

4/5 stars | 3.5/5 spice

- Our FMC, Tessa, owns a romance bookstore. She references books I bet most of you know and love, and as this is a book in the Meet Cute series, you can expect a fun and flirty meet cute moment with our MMC. Tessa's narration is humorous and endearing, and the banter and relationship building between MCs is enjoyable.
-- "Flannel pillows were casually tossed and above the couch were two built- in bookshelves that practically moaned, 'Fill me with your smutty romances.' Challenge accepted."
-- "Naturally, I did what any totally chill, non- obsessive woman does when she likes someone: I Googled him."

-Our MMC, Rowan, is romance reader's dream come true.
-- " 'I’m asking if you’re hungry,' I said. “'And if you’d like to spend time with someone whose greatest red flag is that he alphabetizes his spice rack.' "

-Eventually, you'll also meet Pixie, the cat, who was the purrrfect companion to these two.

- The plot about going to Pumpkin Spice Cabins for a singles retreat was new and unique to me, and the subplot of mystery/danger and potential paranormal mayhem was especially exciting.

As I read the ARC, I can't be sure what may change before the book is published. I would have loved to have seen more details resolve about the paranormal subplot and the witches at the campground. The buildup was excellent, so my expectations for the resolution were also pretty high. I was also a little confused by Rowan wanting to take it slow and be friends with someone before being in a relationship but seeming to rush things at the end of the story -- I think the takeaway is probably that he intended to take it slow and did try, but Insta-love had other plans 😉

The spice was spicy, for sure. When comparing spicy scenes to non-spicy ones the characters changed a bit. They were far less inhibited, which, is honestly pretty realistic and a cool twist, albeit a bit jarring. I was surprised to see the characters in a different light, but appreciated that they could be their authentic selves in the bedroom.

Tropes:
- Spooky season
- Singles retreat with forced proximity
- Protective, millionaire MMC
- Entrepreneur FMC and MMC
- Romance reader MCs
- Paranormal activity

Thanks to the author for gifting me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Romance

Synopsis:

When Maine bookstore owner and workaholic Tessa Monroe spots a social media ad for a Halloween-themed singles retreat at a remote lakefront campground, she signs up expecting cozy cabins, haunted hayrides, lakeside cocktails, and maybe a harmless October fling.
Love? That's definitely not on her fall to-do list. Enter Rowan Kane-tattooed, brooding, and annoyingly mysterious-who's holed up in one of the larger cabins on the property. But when a masked figure turns the campground's haunted hayride into a real-life nightmare, Rowan is the first to jump in and protect her.
With the masked villain still on the loose, Rowan insists Tessa stay with him-for safety, of course. The cabin?
Huge. The hot tub? Steamy. The bed? Just one. And Rowan? Six feet of inked-up temptation with eyes as sharp as his sarcasm. A cozy, spooky Halloween romantic comedy where falling in love might just be the scariest trick of all.

My thoughts:

First off want to say thank you to Persis on giving me the opportunity to read the arc. Loved this meet cute! Book 2 of the meet cute series but can be read as a standalone. I really really loved the dual pov! Like yesss give me Rowan’s thoughts, I want to see how things in his perspective. I think that really tied the book together. And those spicy scenes from Rowan’s pov 😏😏. It was just the right amount of spice. Tessa and Rowan are instantly attracted to each other and they met at her bookshop! He loves to read..ahhhh I love it. But they magically happen to be at the same place around the same time…the cabins retreat. Tessa figured that’s where he’d be and honestly same because if I would’ve done the same thing and cross of places were he could possibly be. They’re both at a singles retreat and you can just feel their attraction/pull towards each other. While they both want to jump their bones they don’t but wait it out as much as they can. I did like that they waited a bit to get it on 😏. I think I want a tad bit more yearning. I really enjoy a book that has yearning like yess make me wait for them to get together…though they did wait compared to other books where it’s instant. It’s such a cozy read just in time for the fall. Had some spooky cabin vibes for Halloween, think hallmark and spooky. I can’t forget about Pixie ! Loved that sassy cat. In all their banter was so cute, I personally enjoyed the book references and authors that were mentioned. Rowan such an amazing book boyfriend. Tessa an amazing cook. I liked how when Tessa cooked something in the story Persis added her recipes on how to cook it with ingredients and step by step. I thought that was genius, maybe a note I think I would have preferred to have those recipes at the end of the book so it’s easier to just go to the back and have it there rather than search for the recipe in the middle of book. I definitely want to try out some of the recipes. If there ever is another story with a similar cooking interest there definitely should be more recipes. *Side note* Honestly Persis I would love to see a cookbook with your recipes. I can’t wait to read your next book.

Would I recommend?
Yes perfect for the season!

*Thank you to the author, Persis Lassiter for providing with E ARC, in exchange for an honest review*

I am in love.

There is so much more I could say about this story, but I don't want to give too much away. This fantastic story has completely blown me away. Last night, one more chapter turned into finishing the book because I couldn't put this book down; I needed to see what would happen next with Tessa and Rowan. I'm still thinking about the story and the characters because I can't seem to get them out of my mind; it's everything I love about rom coms. I even told my best friend about it, who loves reading, and I probably will be talking about it until it is released.

I adored Rowan and Tessa. I loved how the two of them met and how their relationship developed. I couldn't help but smile when Rowan took care of Tessa; he's the kind of guy every girl dreams about. Every page and scene left me wondering what would happen next between the two of them. If I had more time, I know I would spend the entire day reading this book. I loved how the author described everything in the book; I could picture it in my head like a movie. I loved Persis’s first book, The Layover That Changed Everything, but I loved Falling Hard At Pumpkin Spice Cabins even more, and I am already looking forward to her next one!

After reading Falling Hard At Pumkin Spice Cabins, I felt compelled to read another autumn-themed book. I enjoyed the book references in this book, especially since some of them were books that I had read. This book made me hungry. I intend to try out the recipes mentioned in the book. I highly recommend adding this book to your to-read list. I already know that Peris Lassiter will be an instant read author for me.

I had mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the book references—Tessa owns a bookstore, so there were plenty of nods to Romance novels. And then there’s Rowan, the millionaire. Who can resist, right? At the same time, I felt Tessa’s sarcasm was a bit overdone. Almost every sentence had it, and it got tiring after a while.

The story flows steadily. I wouldn’t call it a slow burn because things picked up pretty quickly after the halfway mark. And yes, it’s definitely spicy. What I liked most was that it showed a matured relationship, with the usual dilemmas—one character dealing with grief, the other consumed by work.

I liked the cabin description too—it made me feel like I’d want to take a short break there just by myself.

The conflict itself wasn’t heavy. It mainly revolved around whether they could make time and commit to the relationship. There was also a touch of mystery or spooky elements, but it wasn’t resolved properly, which left me hanging.

Overall, a decent read that I still found enjoyable. I also think it could have been shortened to about 290 pages at most.

Thanks to Persis for the ARC! This review is voluntary and reflects my own thoughts.

Gorgeous, cute autumnal romance based around Halloween giving all the vibes of spookiness and supernatural happenings.

Tessa, owns a small town bookstore, Happily ever After, and a year after losing her dad, decides to take herself off to the Halloween Singles Retreat, if only for some relaxation

Rowan, arrives at the bookshop looking for a new book to read. He is already camped out at the retreat, unknown to Tessa.

Her eyes fall hard on him

He loves all about her he has seen so far

Love at first sight?

They end up as neighbours at the retreat and let’s just say magic happens…

I loved the banter between the main FMC and MMC. The whole fall feel, atmospheres both in and outside the camp ⛺️

I knew this was going to be one of those ‘have it all’ romances and I couldn’t fault anything

Looking forward to more of the Cute Series
Thanks to BookFunnel and the author for the early opportunity

Falling Hard at Pumpkin Spice Cabins had me hooked from page one, but when Rowan and Tessa end up at a campsite with only one bed… let’s just say the heat really turned up. 😉 Rowan insisting Tessa stay with him “for safety” had my heart racing and my cheeks burning in the best way.

This book mixes cozy fall vibes with just the right amount of spice—bonfires, autumn leaves, small-town charm, and tension so thick you can feel it. The chemistry between Rowan and Tessa is undeniable, and that one-bed moment? Chef’s kiss. 👏

If you’re looking for a romance that’s both sweet and steamy, with plenty of fall magic, you’ll fall hard for this one. 🍁❤️🔥

Like I told the author and the team, I need a Rowan in my life stat please. Who wouldn't love a guy who loves to read, likes to stay in and enjoy reading time, and makes you feel like an absolute princess no matter what you are doing? Yeah, I need him in my life. This story was so amazing to read, 2 people who went down to have some time at the cabins and had the stay of their lives. Besides the other things that happened, they enjoyed their time so much that neither one of them wanted to leave. I mean I don't want to spoil anything, but man this book has had me at the edge of my seat in the best way, laughing, giggling, swooning, and wanting to go meet these 2 in real life. Plus who wouldn't want a friend who owns a bookstore♡ ahh love every second of this book and I didn’t want it to end ♡ 100% recommended.

4.5 ⭐️ perfect fall cozy read with a little bit of suspense and a lot of laughter.

Rowan - can all men be like him? Rich, unapologetically himself, caring I could go on and on. Also, a man who likes reading some romance, fantasy and thriller?! Yes please! Also up for anything whether it’s an adventure outdoors or a game of jenga.

Tessa - she is my spirit animal, I adore to be like her. Boss babe who owns a book store, becomes a fur mama, and has such quick wit to literally everything!

This book is a whole fall vibe, from a cozy cabin, delicious recipes, fun adventures, a farmers market I wish I could shop daily and banter that will have you giggling so much!

I don’t think I’ve ever said this in a review but I wanted the story to keep going!

Thank you to the author, Persis Lassiter for providing me with an ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

Falling Hard at Pumpkin Spice Cabins is the perfect blend of cosy autumnal vibes and spooky suspense. Tessa and Rowan collide in Tessa’s bookshop and it’s love at first sight. What follows is a story full of lodge dinners, snow covered forests and fun filled banter between the FMC and the MMC.

The book was a slow burn which I really enjoyed, as it allowed the characters room to breathe and grow. It also allowed other parts of the storyline to develop without focusing on an immediate relationship between the FMC and MMC. As their relationship grew, the spice levels grew and when the inevitable happened, I was actually disappointed. Not that it had happened but because the language used by both of the main characters seemed to completely change. I’m no prude, but the language was fairly coarse and seemed completely out of character.

The only other part of the book that I didn’t like was the whole blanket scene at the start. I don’t want to discuss any further as I’m not one to provide spoilers, but it seemed unnecessary to the storyline and I think the book would have been much better without it.

Other than that, I actually really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect cosy read, with cabin vibes, pumpkin spice and a dash of suspense. The perfect book to kick start the seasonal reading!

If you’re craving a cozy fall romance with a sprinkle of mystery, then this book is a must! I devoured it!

It was love at first sight. Rowan a wealthy 6’4 man who owns 7 car dealerships stumbles upon Tessas bookstore ‘Happily Ever After’. In its own mysterious ways, fate brought both of them to The Pumpkin Spice Campground for a singles retreat.
Their relationship turned into the most magical love story. They shared interest in books and cooking. All the flirty banter. I absolutely loved that all the recipes that they made were included in the book! I may have to try them out myself!

Tessa and Rowan are Hallmark couple goals!

This was such a fun read. Pausing on life to take a reset at a cabin. Stumbling upon love, mystery, and a kitten. My absolute favorite part though, was the inclusion of the recipes cooked in the book! I absolutely love that they were added!

I love when I read an ARC and discover a new author to follow! This is my first time reading anything by Persis Lassiter, but I loved it and I definitely want to read the rest of the series now! It's a cozy fall-o-ween vibe meet-cute that was the perfect start of fall read for me! Definitely recommend 🧡

ARC review

If you weren’t already in the mood for autumn, this book will definitely bring you allllll the vibes. This was such a cute, wholesome autumnal/halloween romance.
I loved the banter between the FMC and MMC, references to populair books and the double pov. And just when you think it’s getting a little TOO cute… You’re wrong.
It has a little spooky/paranormal side to it as well which hit me out of nowhere and I are. It. Up.
