Rogue Faction Part 1

Rate this book
When a Russian neuroscientist develops a cutting edge tool to aid in the treatment of Alzheimer’s patients, the breakthrough could be a modern medical miracle. This technology will allow doctors to record and examine the memories of patients, offering insight into a disease that was previously only the stuff of science fiction. Unfortunately, as with every ‘creation’, the bad comes hand-in-hand with the good. The ability to record thoughts and memories directly from a person’s mind becomes an even more valuable process when utilized as a weapon…for espionage.

Fledgling agent, Cyrus Cooper, is ordered to infiltrate the facility developing this powerful new process. His duty: protect the secrets of this dangerous new system and the mastermind behind it until work has been completed. But as Cyrus soon learns, news of the medical breakthrough has leaked. There are now organizations that will stop at nothing to acquire it for themselves. And his own team, the Coalition, just might be among them.

Matters are complicated further when Cyrus’s past catches up to him in the middle of the operation. He’s left struggling to do his job while trying to protect secrets from his own background that will jeopardize his very life should they reach the wrong ears. Through the mayhem, Cyrus never sees the dangerous, faceless stalker who is determined to cause him mortal harm. The action intensifies and the mysteries mount as Cyrus Cooper is put to the ultimate test in, Rogue Faction Part 1.

After a career spent in the realm of computer programming, much of Xander Weaver's early work focused on the development of custom online shopping systems. An accomplished web developer with more than fifteen years of experience, his childhood dream remained the same: to become an author and take readers on thrilling adventures. That dream was realized when he introduced the action/suspense character of Cyrus Cooper to the world. His love and passion for technology are often found at the heart of his books, because, as he professes, "I write the kind of stories that I love to read."

Xander now lives in Northern Illinois with his wife and overindulged turtle. Having come full circle, their home is just a few short miles away from where Xander grew up--the home where his imagination began to shine.

I really enjoyed Xander Weaver's first Cyrus Cooper thriller. Mr. Weaver had kicked it up on all cylinders for Rogue Faction part one.The action starts from the very fist page and builds non-stop till the the stunning cliffhanger ending! I can't reveal too much so I don't spoil the fun, but if you love thrillers, this will make your day!
I can't wait to see what happens to Cyrus in part 2 and hopefully many books to come.
Excellent job,Mr Weaver!

Another excellent book by Mr. Weaver. Can't wait for the next one. I'll be wondering what Cyrus is up to next. He can get himself into so many situations.

Cyrus Cooper is back and already getting himself into and out of trouble. As with the first book, Dangerous Minds, you are hard pressed to tell that Xander Weaver is a new author, the writing is seamless, action-packed and intelligent. So many books in the thriller genre rely on lots of action and no real story, that is not the case with Weaver, he sure knows how to tell a story. It is one of those books that keeps you enthralled for the entire time you are reading and makes you keep turning the page long after you should have put it down to do more productive things. I cannot wait to read Rogue Faction Part 2 and see where this story continues.

*I just wanted to add a little side note - the only reason this book took me so long to read was because I've been sick and unable to read more than a couple of pages at a time. Had I been fit and well, I'd have managed it in a day or two, it is that good. So please don't let the start and finish dates put you off reading this fantastic book.

This book combines Tom Clancy action with a very well done thriller. Some people are not fans of action stories so do not overlook this book just because of that. The bulk of the story is a well done thriller that is very hard to put down. I am not just saying that, I was way past my bedtime but I had to find out how certain plot developments ended. What I like best about this book is the character development and dialog. Weaver does a great job of shaping the characters quickly, why still leaving the reader room to make their up their own minds as how to perceive them. And there is no phony or forced dialog here and I would say this is Weaver’s strongest point. I hate stories in which the character’s either speak in a manor not found in normal situations or when the author loses you in the back and forth between speakers. The Cyrus Cooper lead character reminded me a bit of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher. Smart, tough, and has an amazing ability to read people and situations. Now, thanks to Xander Weaver, I have a new respect for my drum sticks.

When the book opens in the middle of a mission, Cyrus Cooper is his coolheaded self once again as he continues to work for the Coalition. He is becoming more intriguing as the story unfolds and in this book we have a tiny insight into his past but the full story of who he is remains to be revealed. Rogue Faction is action and mystery, definitely a page turner for me. And then.......it's a cliff-hanger, but I am assured that Part 2 is to be released very soon, so there is more to come from Xander Weaver.

Xander Weaver's second Cyrus Cooper thriller starts off in the middle of a mission and you need to be alert to get everything that's going on. We learn a few more things about Cyrus Cooper's past in this new story and Weaver's good about not giving up too much. It is a suspenseful novel and a thinking man's thriller. Part one is also a great setup for the action coming up in part two. Brace yourself for a bumpy ride.

My first spy thriller and I did enjoy it.
The story is fast paced and there are 'things' that even 'Q' would be proud of. Cyrus is a likable hero and I look forward to reading more of his exploits.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. It's a rare occasion that Cyrus gets to pick his own assignment, this time he does, and has his own agenda. Trouble just seems to follow Cyrus and this mission is no different. As it unfolds we learn more about his past. As with the first book, the characters are very unique and suits the story very well. There is a nice combination of suspense and humour and I'm looking forward to Part 2.

To be honest I am a little disappointed with this book because the first book is very great and I really love it. It open very slow and most of it confusing and I just skimmed it until the end hoping that it will become much more interesting.

Anway, it still intrigued me with its plots and interesting characters. And I feel big things will happen. Cannot wait to read the second part.

Rogue Faction Part 1 is a crazy start to a new Cyrus Cooper story. Xander Weaver spins some sweet action scenes with his Cyrus Cooper. The beginning is very intricate and needed rapt attention, but eases up after the opening act. I enjoyed this as much as his first Cooper book, Dangerous Minds. I'm looking forward to part 2! If you want a good action story, here you go.
