When Nicolas Drago arrives at the gates of Blood Keep, the most feared castle in all of Christendom, to deliver a letter to the reclusive Lady Isabella, nothing could have prepared him for what meets him. Riding a warhorse named Lucifer and wearing armor with the infamous Demon Lord’s sword at her hip, Lady Isabella is nothing like any noblewoman he’s ever met. When Nicolas learns King Edward has ordered her to wed him, his surprise turns to horror. Can a man of honor and a woman with secrets build a marriage and survive the evil lurking in the shadow of Blood Keep? Or will the castle’s legacy of death and betrayal destroy their dreams for a better future?
This book started out good. A weary, battle hardened hero delivers a message for the king and finds himself a bridegroom. The heroine was equally skilled and they clashed as the hero tried to adjust to a capable woman. But about halfway through the book, the hero who was the king's champion was suddenly an incompetent idiot who couldn't see a possibility of an ambush or fight his way out of a paper bag without the heroine rescuing him and everyone around her. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a tough heroine. But if she can do it all, why even have a hero?
A story full of action, secrets, betrayal and love. I will save this book to read again. Isabella and Nichols are true hero and heroin where love is strong and true and defeats evil.
