She wanted the greenest, grumpiest monster on the menu. 💚🧌🍽
Clara joined Monster Dating Agency for one reason to piss off her monster-hating father with a single fake date.
On her “ABSOLUTELY NOT” list? Green skin, sports, and men who grunt more than they talk. So of course, she made sure to leave those exact boxes unticked.
Then she matched with Thorn. 💘🏒
Seven-foot-six of tusks, grit, and barely leashed aggression.
Silent. Staring. Built like sin in a hockey jersey.
Hands like shovels. A growl that makes her knees go soft.
One fake date. One family dinner. With an orc • Breaks bones on the ice and does delivery runs at night 🚚 • Refuses to speak unless he’s pissed 😤 • Shows up when no one else does. And never makes her ask 💪🖤
He’s nothing she wanted.
But maybe... everything she needs.
Because when he growls, she forgets it’s all pretend.
And when he holds her... she doesn’t want it to end.
Big tusks. Bigger stick. One bed. No rules.

This is the second book of this series I've read and both books, nearing the end feel rushed and clipped. Some of the dialogue I'm not even sure the author knew who was speaking because I sure didn't. I think the italicized parts are supposed to be inner thoughts yet a lot of times they're just describing the scene. Parts of the story feel really out of place happening way before they should. It's rushed and slow at the same time. They talk about things like the couple has been together for months yet the timeline of the actual story is only a couple of weeks. There are themes through both this story line and the previous book where there is literally no foundation laid at all. It's chaotic and all over the place. I want to love the stories but I keep getting thrown off by things that are thrown in that seem to happen behind closed doors or have seemed hit the cutting room floor.
'This is heartbreaking. Those kids are just trying to learn dance. I've seen that academy's recitals. The monster children are beautiful dancers. Councilman Whitmore just destroyed his own daughter on live TV. What kind of father does that? The kind who values political capital over family. The kind who sees his granddaughter's happiness as acceptable collateral damage. The kind who would rather destroy his daughter than admit she might be right about something.'
I loved this book so much! I was drawn in from the premise- I can be petty when warranted and enjoy reading petty revenge stories, so I had to read this book. But it turned out to be so much more than I'd pictured. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Clara and Thorn. I was absolutely furious and seething after Clara's father not only hurt her, but publicly humiliated her in front of a room full of people and broadcast it on live TV. She was probably too stunned to react- I certainly wouldn't have been able to be so outwardly calm. I actually needed to stop and step away and breathe for 5 minutes before starting again. And of course I was completely hooked.
Clara wasn't going to just back down. She was going to make a statement of her own against his bigotry against monsters- and the monster children who just wanted to dance in her studio just like any other human child.
'My father just humiliated me on live television, destroyed my business, and attacked everything I've worked to build. He thinks he can control me with money and public shame, force me back into the neat little box marked "acceptable daughter." What if I proved him right about everything he fears? What if I walked into his next public event with exactly the kind of monster he's been warning people about?'
I loved Zee's enthusiasm when she got Clara's application!
“Go get him, scandal ballerina.”
I absolutely loved Thorn. He was sweet, but insecure from his fear of turning into the violent monster his father was. It weighs so heavily on him despite reassurances from his sister and Clara. There are so many levels of prejudices in this book that feel so parallel to what the world is becoming now. And I wanted Clara and Thorn to fight through them and win, supporting each other together and the people who still believed in them. The children were absolutely precious and held love and equality without bias as children do and should.
I was absolutely hooked to the story and completely invested in these two. This is only my second read from Kira Fire, and I can't wait to read more! 5 stars
Clara has one dream—to protect the dance studio she built from the ground up, a safe haven where her daughter and other “monsters” are free to express themselves and belong. It’s more than a business—it’s her heart, her home, her legacy. But when her powerful, bigoted father publicly strips her of funding and quietly exiles her from high society, Clara decides she’s done playing nice.
Fueled by fury and defiance, she signs up for the Monster Dating Agency and demands the most terrifying match they can offer. Enter Thorn—massive, green-skinned, and carrying a quiet storm behind his solemn eyes. He agrees to a date, but neither of them are prepared for what sparks between them.
What starts as a scandalous photo op turns into something beautifully unexpected. Thorn is used to hiding his gentleness behind muscle and menace, convinced he's too broken to be loved. But Clara sees straight through his armor—to the protector, the nurturer, the man who's never stopped fighting to stay in control of a rage that isn’t his fault.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Clare needs to embarrass her father because he just shamed her on tv and in front of the elite of L.A. so she signs up for the Monster Dating Agency. Throne sister signed him up because he’s so lonely. When they meet she at first scared but after a bit she finds she likes him but still slightly using him tell her father causes trouble again. Thorn is afraid he’s to rough he’s an Orc big really big green and with tusks. But Orc are know to be aggressive. But thorn isn’t like that tell pushed. So enjoy the read and see what happens and how these two and Clair’s daughter make a family!!
I absolutely lovedddd this book. This was probably the first time I ever read a book in one sitting. That’s how amazing it was. The story was 10/10 as well as the characters. I was so emotionally invested. I cried. I laughed. I felt love and hate. A whole roller coaster of emotions for this book. That’s how good it was. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I recommend this book if you’re into monster love. Also, the spice scenes were veryyy good. The only thing I would say is that some of the language is repetitive, but besides that, it’s really good.
There’s so much wrong with this story. I don’t even know where to start. There is no flow, it jumps from point A to point G to C then to point M. Don’t know who half the characters are, they just randomly show up. The ending was weird. Second to last chapter, somebody was tased outside the ballet Academy, then last chapter was out of left field. There needs to be some major editing happening in order to make this more readable. Took me three weeks just to finish this.
Don’t let the title fool you, this was such a sweet and heartwarming read. Not at all what I was expecting, but so glad I took a chance and read this story. Two people from two different worlds trying to navigate through societal pressures, prejudices, and strengthening their love for each other.
She wanted to get even with her father and his prejudices, but ending up falling for her date. Their attraction grew through their differences and bigoted roadblocks. Enter her daughter who taught them acceptance and childlike trust. I enjoyed the way they moved every prejudices to get their HEA.
This story really hits all the feels for me. Starting with this couple having a lot of emotional baggage and daddy issues. I couldn’t put this book down once I started because I just wanted this couple to succeed despite all the road blocks they endured. Join Clara, Thorn and little Emily on their journey to happily ever after. Enjoy!
I love these Monster Dating Agency books. they are not too short, but not too long. Perfect, I love how they come together from different species. Where can I get a green Orc. Lol
It was okay. Some parts were rushed, and there were some parts where I was left wondering if I missed something or it was omitted. The characters were likable. It was a cute story and a quick read. I’m going to give at least one more a chance.
