Book 1: Bel Lamington Alone in London, orphan Bel creates a garden on a rooftop and a new life as a secretary. But when an artist crashes, quite literally, into her world, everything is upended. Bel must decide between the safety of solitude and the thrilling newness and vulnerability of love.
Book 2: Fletcher’s End Newly married, Bel prepares to make a crumbling country cottage their new home. But rural life proves anything but peaceful — between mysterious neighbours, a house full of secrets, and the challenge of rebuilding more than just walls. With her usual quiet strength, Bel must learn that love, like a home, takes time, care, and a leap of faith.
Book 3: Katherine Wentworth Widowed young and raising a stepson alone, Katherine Wentworth lives quietly on the edge of Edinburgh, balancing grief with grace. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets a Highland laird — but love is never simple, especially when family legacies and social divides are at stake.
Book 4: Katherine’s Marriage Now Lady of Ardfalloch, Katherine has a new life, a new family — and a fresh set of challenges. Between strained relationships, meddling relatives, and the lingering ghosts of her husband’s past. As more secrets unravel and tensions rise, she must find courage in herself and in the strength of love to keep her new family together.
Book 5: Sarah Morris Remembers Told in lyrical flashbacks, Sarah Morris looks back on her childhood and youth with warmth and unflinching honesty. Recounting the upheaval of evacuation, the complex relationships with her family and the bittersweetness of first love . . .
Book 6: Sarah’s Cottage Seeking freedom and a place to call her own, Sarah finds herself in a rundown Scottish cottage surrounded by beauty —and challenges. But the hills are alive with possibility, and soon Sarah is caught up in community dramas, new friendships, and a romance that may test everything she thought she wanted.
PRAISE FOR D.E.
‘Lively and charming.’ Sunday Mercury
‘A story to delight and satisfy Mrs. Stevenson’s many readers.’ Coventry Evening Telegraph
‘A mistress of her romantic art.’ Bristol Evening Post
Dorothy Emily Stevenson was a best-selling Scottish author. She published more than 40 romantic novels over a period of more than 40 years. Her father was a cousin of Robert Louis Stevenson.
D.E. Stevenson had an enormously successful writing career: between 1923 and 1970, four million copies of her books were sold in Britain and three million in the States. Like E.F. Benson, Ann Bridge, O. Douglas or Dorothy L. Sayers (to name but a few) her books are funny, intensely readable, engaging and dependable.
I loved walking through a good part of the lives of these three women. The times were early 1900 s. The men and women so much more respectful in their behavior toward others. Yet their heartaches and joys were as real as yours or mine, intriguing and sometimes suspenseful. A really good read
The stories in these books were totally enthralling in a peaceful and pleasant way. Loved every chapter. All the characters were interesting in their own way. Feel good stories.
Books 1 & 2: Bel Lamington & Fletcher's End - read 11/18 - 11/22 Books 3 & 4: Katherine Wentworth & Katherine's Marriage - read 12/9-12/13 Books 5 & 6: Sarah Morris Remembers & Sarah's Cottage - read 1/1/26 - 1/6/26 I was not as big a fan of the last two books featuring Sarah - a lot of it was during the War - not my favorite time period to read about. Probably would not read again but they were lovely for a nice light wholesome read during the holidays.
