Tess in Boots

Tess Dougherty plans every aspect of her life right down to the last detail. But she doesn’t plan on running her boyfriend off by bringing up the topic of marriage before he’s ready. And she doesn’t plan to lose her job on the day she’s set to receive a huge promotion. So when her perfect world unravels, Tess makes a new plan: disappear.

Tess packs her bags and leaves her city apartment for a remote vineyard in North Carolina. At first, she’s put off by the slow pace of small-town life in the South. She’s especially irritated by Thatcher, the vineyard’s smart-mouth, dimple-faced farmhand. But she soon begins to appreciate the area’s charm, and Thatcher’s charm, too. She even swaps her trademark heels for a pair of cowboy boots. As Tess spends more time getting to know Thatcher, she finds herself loosening her grip on her old life little by little. Unfortunately, things on the vineyard aren’t as simple as they seem. There’s a secret here, and when the truth comes to light, Tess is forced to reconsider every plan she’s ever made.

Do you ever get a feeling you're going to love a book before you even start? I sometimes get "book vibes" before I start a book just knowing I'm not going to want to put it down.

This is one of those books that you can't say much about without giving things away. I liked that as I was reading I didn't know what was going to happen. I had my ideas, but I had to fight to not jump ahead to make sure I was right. I love that in a book! I was easily sucked into the story and Tess, our heroine, was easy to like and root for. The book opens with Tess about to be proposed to, at least that's what she thinks is going to happen. Things don't go as planned and soon her well ordered life is turned upside down. I liked the journey her character goes through and how she is able to really take a look at her life and who she has become and who she wants to be. I also liked seeing her reconnect with her twin brother. I love reading about close sibling relationships, since it reminds me of my own brothers.

There is a bit of a love triangle, but its handled really well and uniquely. You're not really sure what will happen (and again I had a hard time NOT peaking to see how it would end) and it was fun to see how each relationship evolved. Is that vague enough?

Overall, a very engaging read. I will definitely read it again and look forward to seeing what Ms. Gager comes up with next! Go grab a copy...right now! Make it an early Christmas present, you won't regret it!

Let me start out by saying I know there are a lot of people who are going to disagree with my rating on Tess in Boots and that is totally fine. I really, really wanted to love this book because so many of my friends have read it and absolutely loved it! But alas... there were just a few things that kept me from really loving this book.

Tess has to have every aspect of her life planned out. She is overly organized and everything has to be perfect. When her longtime, non-spontaneous boyfriend, Logan, calls in the middle of the day to say they are going to go out to dinner she just KNOWS he's going to propose to her! But when he presents her with a "congratulations on your promotion" cake, Tess ends up giving him an ultimatum... propose by the end of the summer or we're over. Logan shuts down and says "we'll discuss this later" and takes her home. The next day he leaves for his business trip without another word to Tess.

While Tess is trying to deal with the aftermath of her non-proposal/ultimatum, she gets thrown into another loop. The promotion she was supposed to get will not happen. In fact, she ends up losing her job! She decided it's time to disappear and the answer comes in the form of her twin brother, Jake, who's wife has just inherited a Vineyard from her Uncle Carl. They are in need of a Marketing Director to get the Vineyard back up, running and turning a profit.

Soon after arriving at Carl's place Tess meets Thatcher. She tries her best to stay away from him but there is just something about Thatcher that draws her in. She gets to know him and the more she does, the more she likes. In fact, she just might be falling in love with him! But there's just so many secrets and no one is giving away any information. No matter how hard she tries, everyone is keeping their lips sealed.

Tess has a hard time adjusting to the slower pace life but it eventually grows on her and she gets to the point where she just doesn't want to ever leave. She's finally getting to figure out who she is as an individual and what she really wants out of life. But just as she's getting to where she wants to be, life throws her yet another loop and confuses her all over again. Who does she really love? What direction is her career going in? Should she take the easy way out? Or should she reach for higher and better... even if that path is harder?

All in all this was a cute read. I did enjoy it but like I said earlier, there were just a few things that kept me from really loving this book. The secrets for one thing. They got old after awhile and I ended up rolling my eyes when I discovered what some of them were. Also, I had a hard time connecting with Tess. I am not sure what it was but I did have a hard time with her. I ended up skimming over some parts just to be done with it. Sad... I know. Maybe it was my mood? The last thing that bothered be was the book just ended! And for those of you who know me, know how much that really bugs me! I wanted just a little more... I need closure! Lol. *sigh* Oh well!

This was my first book by Courtney Rice Gager and I will definitely be adding her to my authors to watch list. :)

This casting was a bit on the difficult side for me. I was about halfway into it before any kind of description for Tess was mentioned! So this one might not be perfect but it's who I eventually saw while reading. :)

Believing she just sent her relationship with her boyfriend down the drain, Tess Dougherty jumps at the chance to help out her brother in North Carolina launching his vineyard. Tess is confused after not knowing where she belongs, her boyfriend or ex has yet to call or text her, her job just went down the drain, and now she seems to find herself in the company of Thatcher who gets under her skin. Thatcher is a bit of an enigma and Tess knows she should not even be thinking about another man with her life in limbo, but there is an instant chemistry she has never felt before and Tess has to make some important decisions about her future before she can take the next step in her life.

Entertaining read. Tess is a hoot and manages to find herself in situations that make you laugh. Loved Thatcher, he has that kind of good ol boy with a naughty side about him. Look forward to more books from this talented author.

3.5--I wanted to love this one. I liked it, I just didn't love it. It's hard for me when I see such high ratings/ great reviews because I automatically go in with really high expectations. Don't get me wrong, it's not like it's not worth reading--it is! I just think maybe if I hadn't read any reviews I might have liked it more. Sounds weird, I know. ;)
Anyway, I had a hard time with the heroine at first. The story begins with Tess thinking she was going to be proposed to, and when she wasn't, she gives her boyfriend an ultimatum. I really don't like when a girl gives a guy an ultimatum. I feel like if he's ready to get married, he'll ask. If he's not, you don't want to force him into it! Or maybe some girls do, but that's just not my thing. Ok, enough of that tangent. The only reason I brought it up was because I thought I was going to have a hard time liking and connecting with Tess because of that. While I couldn't completely relate to her, I didn't dislike her either, like I thought I would. It actually seemed more like an accident/speaking before she thought than a planned-out ultimatum.
Anyway, I really liked Thatcher--love the name, too! Loved how they first met...and everyone thinking she was a stripper throughout the book was hysterical. I cracked up when she saw her name on the prayer bulletin board or whatever it was! Back to Thatcher--I appreciated that he didn't want to move in on Tess while she was still in a relationship, but he was still human enough to admit attraction. I liked how he teased her, and their relationship seemed natural and attraction was believable.
Towards the end of the story, I got frustrated with Tess when she couldn't just end things with Logan. I know this is fiction, but I've seen it happen over and over again in real life. I'll never understand why a girl stays with a guy who is obviously not the right guy for her, simply just because it's comfortable or they've been together for so long. But Tess redeemed herself in the end. :)
I have to admit, I didn't think I'd like this one at the beginning of the story...but once it got going, I found myself wanting to pick it up and find out what was going to happen. I'll definitely read more from this author. Although I needed an epilogue!! I personally think that should be a requirement for HEA romance books. :)

Tess is a very organized person--one who very well in the business world. When her boyfriend of seven years takes her out for a very special dinner, she expects to end the night with an engagement, but comes away with a cake for her new promotion, which ends up with her losing her promotion before it begins. Deciding to get away for awhile to figure things out, Tess goes to North Carolina to help her brother and sister-in-law with a new business venture. Tess immediately encounters some interesting situations and rumors, as well as some interesting people...namely, Thatcher, which results in a mild love triangle. There seems to be a lot of secrets and mysteries going on in this small town, especially with the people close to her, but it's nothing she can't handle.

I loved the relationship between Tess and her twin brother, Jake. They are so different, yet they are able to relate to one another and help each other out. Tess is a very take-charge person and I loved seeing her let her hair down. When her perfectly planned life goes awry, she comes up with alternative plans. She's not a person to sit back and let life happen. I loved the side characters, especially some of the small town old-timers. They were funny and stereotypical. I had my favorite man--the one I was rooting for, yet even with all that happened, I was still taken by complete surprise by the ending. Don't get me wrong--I love a good surprise, so it was fun and I had no idea how it was all going to work out, but it did.

This is an author to keep an eye on! The story had a great flow, with really fun characters.

5 BRILLIANT ROMANTIC PUZZLE STARS!

description

This was such a lovely and surprising story. When I first read the blurb and even when I started reading the book, I was anticipating a sweet story that I would most likely enjoy but soon enough those expectations were surpassed because I got to more than enjoy this book, I loved it! This story was so funny, vibrant, charming, but most of all it had a brilliant puzzling plot that totally captured me and kept me reading and reading.

Tess' story starts with some conflicts as the blurb mentions. She has lost her job and she has scared her boyfriend away by bringing up marriage into the relationship. At a lose of what to do, when the opportunity to go away for a while presents itself she realizes she needs to take it. Originally this gateway was meant to be all about helping her brother with his new vineyard business in North Carolina and also a chance for her to figure out how to get her life back in order but things didn't turn out that way. She never expected this little vacation would bring her one of the biggest challenges she's ever taken and that she would enjoy it so much. Moreover, she never expected meeting a new man and much less one like Thatcher James. He makes her feel all sorts of new emotions that both confuse her and excite her at the same time.

"There it was again. That gentle voice. I couldn't quite place the way it made me feel; intrigued, in a way, but also nervous."

So Tess is all busy working hard on having everything perfect and ready to accomplish this huge task that would help her brother's business. In doing so, she meets people from the town that tend to be a little too gossipy about things yet very secretive about others. That's how the puzzle of this story slowly begins and the fun right there starts. Tess is constantly trying to figure out the rumors of the town and what people really mean but nothing is ever clear. Then there's Thatcher who is always near her distracting her thoughts as he also has some secrets of his own. And if that wasn't enough, even more pieces of the puzzle get mixed up when people from back in the city give Tess some surprising news that just complicate things even further. . .

“I came here because I thought it would help me get my life back on track. But now I was more off course than ever.”

I'm stopping here with describing the story because I don't want to give anything away. Something I really enjoyed about this book was the element of surprise and I want to maintain that with this review. ;)

Reading this book was so much fun. Trying to figure out the big puzzle behind the secrets, rumors, and confusions along with Tess was so entertaining. Tess was really funny and the things that happen to her were hilarious. I got to like her character a lot because she wasn't in any way perfect; she was just a woman trying to make sense of her many crazy situations and figuring out what was really important for her in life. Now Thatcher James, well, he was something else. This man was direct, incredibly charming, and irresistible with words that he totally captivated me. He made me laugh and sigh too many times and I loved him for Tess. He was exactly what she needed in her life.

"I'd been unchanged by knowing him. He saw my strengths, encouraged me, and held me accountable to who I was. He didn't try to make me into someone else."

Again, just a lovely and fun read this one was! If you're looking for a story that makes you smile, laugh, keep you guessing, and by the end leaves you very happy, then Tess' story is sure for you too!

I seem to have a thing for cowboy and cowgirl boots and the types of characters associated with them. You have laid-back (at least in Tess's eyes) Thatcher who just spells trouble for Tess, and this lovely town full of quirky, sweet, and fun small-town characters. I loved how this sweet romance took a city girl, Tess, and let her unwind, add a little spunk, and become a little bit country. She traded in her high heels for a meaningful pair of cowgirl boots. It took her some time to figure out their meaning, but when she did, it changed her life.

I really, really liked these characters! I loved Tess and her twin brother, Jake, and his wife, Sarah. I loved Thatcher. I loved how the characters interacted and especially the sweet moments between Tess and Jake and Tess and Thatcher. I loved how Thatcher challenged Tess and made her take a good, long, hard look at her life back at home and who she really was. I loved how Tess came into her own.

I liked the way the story revealed so much about these characters as it went on. There was heartbreak and some bittersweet moments and memories, but those were balanced with friendship, humor, and love. It was a perfect balance. There was plenty of tension where there needed to be, including in the romance which developed over time and didn't take over the story. There were also some inspirational parts, but they felt so natural and just enhanced the story.

Tess in Boots was a sweet and heartwarming story that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. I loved the characters, the plot, and the dialogue was fabulous! I'd definitely recommend it to sweet and/or inspirational romance readers.

Tess in Boots is a honestly refreshing light romance. Tess Dougherty is a true planner, from the clothes she chooses to wear and the wedding she has planned since forever. One problem is her boyfriend Logan doesn't seem to be in a rush to propose. Her breaking point is when she believes he is going to, she is once again let down on her hopes of getting married.
Tess's twin brother Jake uses his twin abilities, sensing something is off with his sister and begs Tess to help him out briefly with his new Vineyard venture. After packing up her so-called life and heading to Jake's remote vineyard, she believes it will make Logan miss her and really WANT to marry her. Once there she is met with Thatcher, a frustrating, sarcastic friend of Jake's and his wife Sara. Tess makes a vow to herself that whatever that tingle she is feeling is just an innocent crush. This once high heel wearing put together girl, switches things up for a pair of cowboy boots, and planning weddings for other brides.
Will Tess ever have her own wedding with Logan? Or, will those tingles for Thatcher be the start of a new planning path for her? Once she is able to figure out all the secrets that are being kept from her, she will know what the next move in her plan should be.

Sweet,fun read!

An adorable, funny, and endearing clean romance.

Tess feels like her world is falling a part....and she sets off on an adventure of survival. Little does she know her dreams might just possibly come true. Problem is, once things begin to fall into place, her dreams aren't all they were cracked up to be. I loved this at times hilarious, sweet romance. Such a light, quick, fun read. I couldn't put it down.

I really enjoyed this city vs country romance. Tess had my sympathies right from the start – what a terrible twenty-four hours she had! Still, the lesson here is that sometimes it takes major unplanned events to uproot and set us on a path we wouldn’t normally choose – especially when we’ve convinced ourselves we have the life we want.

There were some great moments in this book (I shall avoid fire stations with full car parks at all costs) and great characters. I laughed out loud in several places.

I liked Tess very much. She came across as realistic, complete with flaws as well as endearing qualities, and a vulnerability that made me want to take her under my wing.

And as for Thatcher, well, I don’t blame Tess for being attracted to him. Those blue eyes had me hooked too, but it was more his gentle way of dealing with her and his cheeky humour that had me hoping things would hurry along.

Which of course, they didn’t.

As Tess gets busy organising a new venture for the vineyard it becomes obvious her brother Jake and his wife Sara are hiding something. And Thatcher has his secrets too. And what’s happening between Tess and Logan, the boyfriend she left behind because she wanted to teach him a lesson, the one she occasionally forgets because Thatcher just plain makes her giddy?

Tess in Boots is an entertaining, light-hearted romance with a subtle Christian element. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the significance of the boots 

Tess in Boots by Courtney Rice Gager
I was so excited to get my hands on this ARC. I remembered when Courtney was pitching this book during twitter pitch parties. She caught my attention a long time ago. The day I picked up the ARC I devoured it. I hid in my room reading and reading. If you want a satisfying light romantic read, this book is for you. The content is clean so teens can enjoy Tess in Boots too. I love all the characters, but you're going to have to grab a copy yourself to find out why. Watch out though, you may find yourself fangirling over a certain young gentleman.

This is a really great refreshing read. This was a clean fun story for me.

When things go tits up for Tess her twin brother asks her to help him set up his vineyard. She's hoping that her boyfriend Logan will her enough to propose. She doesn't take into consideration meeting Thatcher.

This is a great light romantic read. There are some really good laugh out loud moments that I enjoyed.

What a fun read! Unexpected life changes, heart break, self-discovery, brand new challenges, beautiful scenery, not having enough info, renewing family relationships, crazy small town gossip, and an absolute hottie. This was a great story. (I do wish there was a little more with Thatcher though.) I'll eagerly watch for more from Courtney Rice Gager.

Ok super cute read! I just loved Tess from the beginning from really finding herself and not being someone that everyone wanted her to be. Thatcher- could you just be the nicest guy ever? My favorite part when he gave the Cowboy boots. Lots of surprises and what's going on here? moments. I wanted their story to continue.

2.5 “Chin up, buttercup” “Boots” “When you know, you know” Kisses

I hate writing reviews like this…I hate writing or thinking about the things that I didn’t like or didn’t work for me in a book. I know I’m throwing a pitty party right now, but work with me here. It’s not that I disliked everything about Tess in Boots…but the things that bothered me were enough to take away from my enjoyment…and that’s a bummer. Alright…I’m over my pouting, let’s rip off the band aide.

Tess Dougherty…*sigh*…Oh Tessy…what am I going to do with her. She’s not a bad girl…she’s nice and sweet, in her own right…she’s got a lot going for her, she’s very driven, got her future all planned out - almost 30 and nothing is going to stop her from living her perfect little life. Except when she drops an ultimatum on her boyfriend and doesn’t get the response she wanted. Don’t get me wrong, I think the girl has ginormous balls to do what she did…and especially the way she reacted to it…but I wanted her to be more sure of her decision and that she was doing it for herself, not to get a reaction out of him. So she packs up and heads to North Carolina to spend some time with her twin brother and get away…and in the process…she finds a sexy man, a pair of boots and herself.

‘He laughed. “Wow, Boots. You’ve given this some thought, haven’t you?”
“Nah.” I waved my hand in a dismissive motion. “I just made all that stuff up.”
“You’re pretty fast on your feet,” he said.
“Only when I want to be.”
“So…do you really like vanilla? Or did you make that up, too?”
“No, I really do.” I tilted my head. “did you really have me pegged?”
“I did.” His chin lifted so slightly it was almost imperceptible. “It suits you well, you know.”
“Huh?”
“Classic. Pure. Delicate.” He leaned forward and lowered his voice. “Exquisitely subtle.”
This is his idea of a warm-up question? What’ve I gotten myself into?
“I think you’re a lot of things, but I don’t think you’re boring Boots.”’

Thatcher Bartholomew James…honestly, I did not get enough Thatcher…not even close. Thatcher is…a complete and utter surprise. Every time I though I knew what I was getting with him, he’d do something else and throw me for a loop. Don’t get me wrong…they were awesome loops, I loved that he could keep me on my toes like that…it made him all the more fun. He’s cute, smart, funny…total package deal but I really felt like I barely scratched the surface. There are so many more things that I wanted to know about him…and I was a little unsatisfied with not getting all that I wanted from his character.

‘There was a silence for a while, except for the steady chorus of crickets increasing in volume all around us. He was right. There was so much I didn’t know about him. And the more I found out, the more I wanted to know. I wanted to be closer to him. Physically closer. I knew it was wrong, but I couldn’t deny it.’

Tess and Thatcher were…cute. I loved their banter…I love that he picked on her and she made him happy. They meshed well and I just really liked them when they were together. The problem is…I didn’t get them together enough. The few times that Thatcher and Tess get some serious one-on-one time are awesome…I ate up every word…I was getting all sorts of feels…it was great stuff. But it wasn’t enough. I needed to see more development…more of them bonding and connecting. Then, when she started declaring her feelings for him, I’m scratching my head wondering where I missed something cause…I didn’t get it. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted her to…but it didn’t logically make sense to me, it felt like a few steps had been skipped. It all seemed a bit rushed, which for the part of the story, I understood but…if that was the case, it wasn’t worth it.

‘“A lot of those branches died a long time ago, but the grapevines still hold on. They don’t want to let go of what’s comfortable. Know why?”
I shook my head.
“Me neither,” he said. “But I have my theories. I think some of ‘em are too proud and stubborn to admit when a branch ain’t no good anymore. And others are afraid they’ll be left with nothing at all if they let go. In any case, there’s only one way to let in the sun. Do you understand what I’m saying here, Boots?”
I nodded. I did understand. I understood he wasn’t talking about the grapevines anymore.’

The other problem I had was certain ways that Tess found out information about Thatcher and what was going on (I’m doing my best to be vague so as not to spoil…so bear with me)…clearly Tess and Thatcher are still getting to know one another and there are some pretty big revelations that are made about Thatcher and his past that we don’t get from Thatcher at all. We don’t even get his input on anything, except for one issue regarding his grandfather towards the end and even that, I wanted more. I felt like those were great opportunities to give us more insight on Thatcher’s character and it almost made it less impactful that I wasn’t getting input from him at all. I guess this also ties into what I said earlier about not getting enough Thatcher…

“You okay? She asked, as she was touching up my mascara.
“Yeah. I’m just thinking.”
“About the wedding?”
“No. About how I wish I had some of your courage. And about whether it’s true.”
“Whether what’s true?”
“When you know, you know.”
She nodded. “I think it is. At least, for me it is. I don’t necessarily think love has to take forever to be love. Sometimes, it just is. Sometimes you can’t help it.”

I think TiB reads more like chick-lit to me than contemporary romance because Tess figuring out who she is and what she wants is more of the focus of the story than the romance. There really wasn’t that much romance overall…which is fine, but not exactly what I was hoping for. In the beginning I thought it might be a bit of a love triangle…which, in a way, it kind of was…but without the angst. I can’t say it was a completely horrible experience reading TiB…it wasn’t at all – or else I wouldn’t have finished it. I did enjoy Courtney’s writing…I would have liked a little more emotion coming from the characters, but the problems I had didn’t stop me from completely enjoying what I was reading. With the way TiB ended, there is a total and complete opportunity for Courtney to write a sequel continuing Tess and Thatcher’s story…so I guess I’ll wait and see if that happens.

I love the lightness and at the same time growth in this story. I also love the sibling bond Tess and Jake (her twin) have with each other and the funny way the country side was portrayed. The only reason I couldn't give this book a full on 5 was that I was not completely sold with Tess and Tatchers' insta-love story. I was looking a for a deep connection. More background about Tatcher. I mean something aside from, "when you know, you just know". Oh well... over all, I still loved this book and how immersed me and gave me good vibes even if the day took a bad turn for me. This book is perfect when someone is looking for something interesting, light and fluffy to read.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: http://bookbriefs.net**

Tess in Boots is a clean new adult contemporary romance. It is a starting over story, where the main character needs to get away from her current life. Tess lost her job right before she was supposed to get a big promotion and her boyfriend was being all "dud-like".  Not wanting to move forward or do much of anything after being together seven years. So when her brother calls her up out of the blue and tells her he needs her help with a vineyard in North Carolina, she figures it will be a bit of a much needed vacation for her. What it ended up being was a fresh start. I love these kinds of books. Where the main character does something completely different with their life. Those are the books that are completely about them finding themselves, or reinventing themselves into the versions they wanted to be in the first place.

Tess in Boots was a really cute read. It has a nice romance in it, even if you don't always know which way  it was going to go. I couldn't get enough of Thatcher. His feelings for Tess seemed a little abrupt but he is the kind of sweet genuine guy that can pull that off. I loved all of Tess' marketing ideas for the vineyard. Plus the whole small town vibe feel of the book with all the overly nosey townspeople, were perfect for the book. I love small town settings.

There were times while reading Tess in Boots that I genuinely had no idea which direction the story was going to take. It could have gone any number of ways, and that was part of the appeal. Now when we got down to the end of the book, I did know what I wanted to happen and I still wasn't even sure if it was going to or not. I think I would have been disappointed if it didn't turn out the way I wanted to. I'm not going to say what way that was, or if it happened. But you might be surprised because there is no "good guy" and "bad guy" in Tess in Boots. Logan was a pleasant surprise to me. And Thatcher had so much more going on than I initially thought. Tess is one lucky lady, that is all I will say.

The most satisfying part of the book was not the romance. It was the growth that Tess discovered within herself. I loved the new direction she took her life in. And I would love another book or novella to check in with her and see what she does with it . If you are looking for a really heartwarming and sweet clean new adult/adult romance, check out Tess in Boots.

A fun, low maintenance, sweet romance. That are the words I'd use to describe this gem of a book. The book starts off immediately with a story and does a great job at making the reader smile, laugh, and even sigh a little too. Anyone of us can probably relate in some way to Tess. She's not looking for everything, just something and someone she can call her own. She wants what every girl wants, the dream. It's not much to ask, right? Well, apparently it is.

Our story starts with Tess and her boyfriend, Logan having dinner. It's not just any dinner because Logan makes sure Tess knows he has a BIG surprise for her. Tess jumps to the conclusion that she is FINALLY going to be a Mrs instead of the dreaded Ms her whole life through. She gets all excited and makes sure she dresses just right. When the BIG moment comes, Logan has the waiter bring out a cake that says "Congratulations" on it. Tess is a bit confused, because after all she hasn't said yes yet. She finally realizes that Logan had no intention of proposing and instead wanted to congratulate her on her new promotion at her job. Tess is frustrated and tries hard to hide her anger but winds up asking that inevitable question girls like to ask "Where is this going?" Logan doesn't take this well and leaves Tess at her front door perplexed as to when she will see him again. If that isn't enough, Tess arrives at work the next day only to find out that her company is closing and everyone is fired. Now tell me that isn't a very bad day!

This story captured my heart from the get go. The writing style and instant love of Tess was a true seller for me. I loved the way the author made Tess strong willed but also a bit insecure on the inside. She seems to be a free spirit that is really good at finding herself in funny and precarious situations. I loved the humor involved in this story and the way the author was able to switch the tone of the story seamlessly.

After the bad day that Tess has, she decides to join her twin brother Jake and her sister in law with their new business venture. She knows she could use a vacation and Jake is so convincing that she agrees. The dynamics between Jake and Tess only adds more to the story. Although very different, Jake and Tess have a great relationship with each other and I loved seeing these two interact. It was so much fun to see Tess out of her element and able to be more carefree than she is used to.

The best thing about this book....... THE SURPRISE ENDING!

Honestly, I am a very careful reader and can usually see things coming but I never guessed on this one. To me that is what makes a great novel. Hands down, a great read for romance lovers like me!

OK … So you’ve been dating this guy for years. He takes you for a walk along the waterfront and then into a “quaint little candlelit café” overlooking the Hudson. He announces he has a surprise. What are you thinking? Exactly what Tess Dougherty thought. He’s going to pop the question. He doesn’t. It’s a congratulatory cake to celebrate her promotion. Well, for Tess, this was the end of the line. A few words are exchanged and then she does it … she gives Logan an ultimatum.

Now have you ever noticed that when one thing goes wrong, usually a few wrong things follow? The next day (even after the promotion), Tess is laid off. So, after some thought and encouragement from her twin brother, Jake, she sets out from New York to North Carolina to stay with Jake and his wife, Sara. Sara had recently been the heiress to her uncle’s vineyard. It had been in disarray for several years and they are now trying to build it back up. Jake wants Tess to help with marketing. She begins to think what a beautiful venue the vineyard would be for weddings. So that’s how she wants to promote it. Shortly after she arrives, she meets Thatcher James. He has knowledge of the wine industry and is there to help Jake and Sara get everything up and running. He’s a very blunt and no-nonsense type of man and immediately Tess and Thatcher are at odds with one another. Yet she discovers he does have some good points. But, she doesn’t want to like Thatcher – not in that way. After all, Logan is going to realize the big mistake he made and call her any day now.

This is a very charming romance novel and Tess is a very charming young woman. She wasn’t naturally a strong person, but she had the ability to think on her feet and fooled a lot of people into thinking she was organized and on top of things. I liked her personality. Even though she and Thatcher are at odds with one another quite a bit, I really liked him too. Their interaction was cute as each one was in denial of their attraction to the other. I rated Tess in Boots at 4 out of 5.

Tess in Boots is a charming romantic tale that takes readers on a journey of self discovery, second chances, and ultimately love.

Tess likes the security of her life. Everything seems to be falling into place, everything that is except getting her boyfriend of seven years to propose. After giving her boyfriend an ultimatum, Tess leaves the city and heads to the backwoods of North Carolina to spend time with her brother, Jake. Arriving at the small town vineyard her brother and his wife inherited, Tess decides she'll just stay long enough for Logan, her boyfriend, to come graveling back. In the meantime she busies herself around the vineyard and gets to know the occupants in the town. One in particular has caught her attention and he seems to have a way of getting under her skin. At the same time there's something about him she finds appealing, but the more she learns about him the more questions she has and if the townspeople know anything they aren't talking. Tess begins to rethink the path her life has taken and just when she thinks she has it all figured out something unexpected happens.

Tess In Boots is an enchanting story about the importance of never losing who you truly are, even for love. The author does a wonderful job of creating enjoyable and colorful characters. I especially liked the townspeople and how everyone knows everyone's business. I spent many summers in a small town and the author couldn't have been more accurate in her description. I liked that this wasn't a sappy love story, more of a pilgrimage of sorts to rediscover ones true self with the bonus of love thrown in. Beautifully written, Tess in Boots will pull at your heartstrings and make your heart smile.

Tess Doughtry plans everything. She has her life lined out just the way she wants it. Her boyfriend of 7 years, Logan, is about to propose, she’s getting a big promotion she’s worked so hard for tomorrow, and she couldn’t be more happy…..
Until the bottom drops….
Logan doesn’t propose, her company sells out and she’s out of a job, what will she do?
“Go be Tess” Her old boss Jim tells her….but the only problem is Tess doesn’t really know who she really is anymore.
She decides to ‘run away’ from her troubles for a while and go visit her twin brother Jake and his wife Sara and help them with their newest venture of a Vineyard.
In this escape from reality, Tess begins to find herself again. With a little help and prodding from a new (attractive, male) friend Thatcher, that is. She realizes she enjoys the leisure pace of the county life vs the big city, she has opted daily for the pair of boots Thatcher gave her instead of her heels, and she is also realizing the career path she’s been following and striving to for the past 7 years, may not even be what she wants to do.
Will Tess choose the easy way and go back to the “normal” and planned life she is used to, or will she choose to listen to her heart?

I enjoyed this read. This was a very sweet book that reiterates the ‘ol tale in life that you need to follow your heart. I liked the banter between Tess and Thatcher. I could feel Tess’ pain and frustration when your brain is telling you one thing and your heart is telling you another. I laughed and worried with Tess. I hope that Courtney plans for another.

I sat down one night around 11:00 with the intention of getting started on this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it around 3am.

Tess seems like someone I could be great friends with. The day she finally gets promoted to Marketing Director at work, her company is closed by the feds. She also finds herself at odds with her boyfriend and she just wants to get away. Tess is "rescued" by her brother with an offer for a temporary job at his new vineyard.

Almost immediately after arriving at her brother's place, Tess meets Thatcher. She finds herself drawn to him in a way that is completely unexpected. Apparently he feels it too and he gives her a pair of cowboy boots to wear around the vineyard.

Soon, Tess finds herself hired to conduct a "high profile" wedding at the vineyard. Given such a short time frame, she completely forgets about her old life and boyfriends and dives head first into this new town, lifestyle... and Thatcher. She also soon discovers that there is a story behind the boots. Everyone in town seems in awe that she is wearing Thatcher's boots, but no one will tell her what is going on.

The two things that kept me from putting this book down - the boots and the revelation of the mystery bride and groom - were the backbone of this entire book. The author did an amazing job of keeping the secret right until the very end. And the secrets - AMAZING!!

I loved this book. I loved the story. I loved the boots. And I loved the ending. This is a must-read for anyone looking for a great love story. You don't want to miss it!

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Tess Dougherty has the perfect life: handsome long-term boyfriend who’s about to propose, and a job as Marketing Director in a swanky New York office. Then she doesn’t. He doesn’t propose, she gives him an ultimatum, and then her entire firm is closed overnight. She retreats to North Carolina where her twin brother and his wife have just inherited a vineyard.

What follows is a fun romance full of confusion and secrets, starting with Tess asking for directions at what turns out to be a bachelor party, and getting mistaken for someone else. This is just the first of many misunderstandings and secrets which drive the plot forward. There’s also plenty of tension with Thatcher, the mysterious and handsome vineyard helper the local ladies warn Tess against. But why? And what is the significance of the boots?

At about the three-quarter mark I was starting to get worried. I was really enjoying Tess in Boots—like, Really Enjoying—but there was still this huge secret hanging over the plot and I was worried it might all fizzle out when the secret was revealed. (I’ve read novels like that before, where the tension ramps up and up and up at the thought of the secret, and it’s a huge let-down when the Big Reveal comes.

I had nothing to worry about. The secret was big enough, and somehow managed to ramp the tension up even more—in fact, I think this would be even more fun to read the second time around, knowing the secret and looking out for clues. Recommended for fans of fun contemporary Christian romance by authors such as Becky Wade, Denise Hunter, Carla Laureano and Angela Grigg.

Tess has planned her wedding to Logan. They have dated fro seven years, and she knows that he is finally going to ask her to marry him at a special dinner. But, it doesn't happen. He congratulates her on a job promotion and then leaves for a business trip right after she gives him an ultimatum.

He missed the fact that she was laid off from work the next day and received a surprise invitation from her twin brother, Jake, to help him out on a vineyard he and his wife just inherited.

Her time away to sort out her life leaves her more confused. She has a boyfriend, whom she loves, but Thatcher is a magnet. She can't stop thinking about him and she feels tingly when she is near him.

This was a fun book for me to read. I enjoyed the characters. Tess is a sweet woman who has a lot to look forward to. She has lost herself in her career and trying to be the perfect girlfriend. In this story she re-discovers who she is and how she wants to live her life. She figures out that there are parts of herself she let fall to the wayside that she wants to recapture.

Thatcher was a hoot. His quirky personality kept Tess on her toes. He has traveled a hard path through life and become a better person for it. I loved how he helped Tess be herself.

Tess's other relationships in the book were for the most part supportive. I loved reading how she and her brother interacted. The way she dealt with a small town that loves to gossip showed integrity.

There were many great thing in this book. This is a clean romance book.

This wasn't an extremely long book but it was an enjoyable one. Tess is your typical city girl who is at a point in her life where big decisions are abundant. She is easy to relate to because almost every girl has had to deal with these types of decisions and we have all big dreams and our hearts broken. I rooted for Tess right from the beginning and hoped that she would find her happy ending. Just from the type of book this is, I could tell from pretty early on how the story would end but that didn't take away from the fun.

Tess went from being organized and focused to being a bit of a hot mess pretty quickly. As soon as she arrived at her brother's house, she and Thatcher had immediate chemistry. There were however, a lot of bumps in the road as they slowly started a relationship, some of these bumps had me laughing out loud and others were more sad or serious. The fact that almost everyone in town thought Tess was a stripper due to a misunderstanding when she first arrived in town was quite amusing and the back story about the boots was touching. The story itself was very sweet and leaves you feeling good when you finish it. It is racy and it was nice to read a clean book that still held my attention to the point where I didn't want to put it down. I would definitely read another book by this author in the future.

I really loved this book! Like, a lot. A hot cowboy is always good, right? And a hot cowboy who also happens to be awesome and sweet and romantic? What can make that better? The fact that he is slightly tortured by his past just makes him way more intriguing.

I also really admired Tess. Who hasn't wanted to run away and escape when things suck? I know I sure have, but have never had the guts to actually do it. She hopes to get away for a few weeks to clear her head and reevaluate her life. But what does she find? New love? A new career? Or do things just get worse and worse, making her realize how good she actually had it? You’ll have to read to find out what actually happened, but I can tell you it was an awesome read filled with romance, humor, mystery, and a few twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book. I usually have very low expectations when it comes to new authors, but I was pleasantly surprised! Tess in Boots really drew me in right from the beginning, and I couldn’t put it down. That is always a good sign. The ones that keep me up reading until 2AM when I have work the next day…a GREAT sign. Needless to say, I was walking around like a zombie the day after I finished this book, but it was totally worth it. Absolutely put this one on your TBR list!!

Oh. My. How I loved Tess in Boots. It was a just right kind of read; not over the top, but enough awwwwe moments. My romantic heart was a happy camper reading this book.

I loved Tess. Loved. Her. Like so many of us (okay probably just me) she seemed to have it all together until she woke up to discover she was a mess. In this case, that turned out to be good. She decided to take a chance, some risks, and let go a bit. I think there are times to follow your head and times to follow your heart. I loved that Tess reminded us of that.
Then there’s Thatcher, ‘the vineyard’s smart-mouth, dimple-faced farmhand’. Wow. Two leading characters I loved. Thatcher warms my heart. Even though he has his own issues, I love that he sees Tess. The witty banter between the two is happy. The author drew me into Thatcher by making him a flawed but teachable character.

Finally, we have the boots. Good golly Molly what a fun addition they make (uh, you’re gonna have to read the book cause I’m not ruining that for you). Clever. That’s my take on them. (Sigh)

*I received this book for review from the publisher. This in no way affects my thoughts expressed in this review*

I was so excited to read this book ever since I helped reveal the awesome cover a few months ago! I’ve always loved those Hallmark type movies that have someone from a ‘big city’ visiting a small town and, well, not liking it at first but eventually falling in love with the town and its people. So, this book based on the synopsis sounded right up my alley – and it was. I really enjoyed reading it!

Tess and Thatcher were just such… adorable characters. I loved reading about them. This book combines great contemporary and a bit of suspense that makes for a great story that will leave you wanting your own pair of cowboy boots!
