Redemption Lane

Rate this book
Sometimes the past bleeds into the future.

Bess, a wild party girl running from herself, literally falls victim to her demons when she collapses in the most unexpected of places.
Lane, a tightly wound, up-and-coming CEO who can’t seem to stop enabling his brother, doesn’t know what hit him when Bess falls at his feet and into his life.

It was a night she doesn’t remember, and one he can’t forget.

But rather than stay and help the needy college coed, Lane decides to teach his brother a long overdue lesson––a decision that later comes back to haunt him and only adds fury to the transgressions of his past he is already fleeing from.
Years later, Bess and Lane meet again. She doesn’t know him, and he doesn’t share that he knows what happened on that ill-fated night when she almost died. After all, he has a web of complicated lies from his own youth to protect.

Both are seeking salvation in the arms of others and ignoring the truth—that the only road to redemption lies in confronting your past.

When the past and present collide, is there any chance at redemption?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Redemption Lane (stand-alone). Two broken souls face painful pasts on the road to healing & love!

“Amazing how two people, both stuck in despair, could come together and emerge stronger from the darkest of times.”

Books in Crossroads duet are stand-alones:
Book 1: Redemption Lane - Lane Wrigley
Book 2: Absolution Road - Jake Wrigley

Redemption Lane (stand-alone) opens up to the past, a chance encounter between then student Bass William and college graduate Lane Wrigley that ended up changing the direction of their lives.

Fast forward four years when they meet again. Waitress Bass is unaware of her connection to the handsome stranger. She has come a long way but in many ways has become a prisoner to her fears, failures and demons.

CEO and business owner Lane, on the other hand, never forgot Bass. He has since achieved success, but his structured and controlled existence is him running away rather than facing his demons.

Redemption Lane, told from dual POVs, is a romance centered around two broken souls teetering on the narrow road of redemption. Coping with trauma and addiction it’s a long journey of life lessons learned, soul-searching, facing painful pasts and taking chances. A true testament to the empowerment of forgiveness and healing power of love.

Up next book 2, Absolution Road about Lane’s twin brother, Jake Wrigley.

5 - "I shouldn't have ever left." Stars!

Its no secret that I have fallen out of love with the overly dramatized, angst fests that some authors release nowadays. You know the kinds of books I mean, where everyone in the main characters past/family has died, There are demons are aplenty, addictions abound and just when you think it cannot get any worse, something else is dumped on the pile just to depress the plot even more.

I do however still love drama and angst when it is well written, relevant to the story, and actually adds something to the plot and the relationship between the characters it is about. Rachel Blaufeld hit that balance perfectly with Redemption Lane.

The story between Lane and Bess is intricately woven and exquisitely written. It's unpredictable in the directions it takes, and the author pulled everything together in a way that I could never have predicted when I started reading.

"I shouldn't have ever left."

A love story in the truest sense, it isn't rushed, in fact 5 years passes between their first and second meeting, and a lot has happened to both of them in those years. Bess isn't the woman Lane remembers from their brief meeting. Bess doesn't even remember their first meeting...

My heart was on autopilot until I met you, and you made it beat steady and strong again.

Told from 3 points of view, I got pulled into this story, the reconnection between this couple takes time, the story builds, and every secondary character has relevance, nothing is glamourised and everything is developed so well that you see the story in your minds-eye as it plays out, even better some of that relevance of certain things you do not realize the importance of until the latter stages of the book.

There was solace in the time I was left alone with my memories.

And absolutely outstanding read, this is my first book by the author, and I am moving straight onto the next book in the series; Absolution Road I enjoyed it that much!

4.5 Redeeming Stars!

This books was so good! It has been in my TBR pile for quite awhile and even after meeting the author at an event I still overlooked it...DUMB ME!

This book is so beautifully angst ridden. It is solemn and wary with snippets of light. It is the making of a love story in the middle of two lives paused. Not only did I find myself completely attuned to the characters but I also really appreciated the writing and flow.

Lane Wrigley was not the perfect alpha hero. He was not a Chrstian Grey type presence. He was a man haunted by his past and even more by mystery woman whose total break affected his life. Bess Williams survived her lowest and made a good life structured with isolation and mundane. She had no idea her self tragedy would bring a man into her life forever altering her world!

This was a total push and pull. Everything was heightened with lust then reality. Lane and Bess are not a match made perfect couple but yet they belong to one another so deeply. I truly enjoyed the fighting emotions and the "i cant stay away" feels....so good! So, while I was completely enraptured with Lane and Bess and their passionate connection, I was equally caught up in the lone twin...Jake Wrigley! I am completely looking forward to his own redemption as the road does not seem so clear!

My Thoughts - Story
I originally rated this a 3.5 stars but then the more I thought about it…the more the story stayed with me and I just had to up the number of stars.

This isn’t a book that will grab you from the beginning, this is a book that grows on you – it slowly unfolds as we take a journey through one girl’s addictions and her struggle to hold on to her sobriety. Along with that she must learn to live and love – and make choices to benefit her future.

As I read this story…it touched a part of my personal life living with an alcoholic and children who are struggling every day to stay sober. NA meetings, sponsors and everyday obstacles are a part of my life. I put my daughter in Bess’ shoes and prayed that her life could mirror the heroine’s.

I think that is what grabbed me from the moment I picked up this book and I easily could relate with Bess. The book didn’t just center around her addiction but it was a big factor with everything else going on. Yes, there were times that the story got slow and I found myself skimming but overall it was a deep and meaningful read.

Re-Cap
Bess is a recovering addict who feels isolation and hard work keep her sober, until one day a stranger (to her) shows up in her life. This stranger is wealthy, drop dead gorgeous and has a secret. Bess is overcome with desire for him and vice versa but this isn’t a happy, easy go lucky relationship. Lane and Bess must deal with obstacles such as: past demons, sobriety, secrets, long distance, and lies. Not to mention a problem with a certain “ex” who can’t let Bess go.

Read about how these two learn to open up and let go of the past.

"I needed to be saved from myself. I needed redemption."

So I discovered the Crossroad Series when I practically inhaled and loved the second book of the series, Absolution Road and was immediately intrigued with the other Wrigley twin, Lane so I knew I had to read Redemption Lane right away. And once again, I found myself devouring this book as Rachel Blaufeld spellbinds her readers in yet another poignant, touching, emotional and beautiful love story.

#RedemptionLane

The best gift in life is the second chance we are given everyday. Everyday is the opportunity to start all over. To leave the past, the regrets and the mistakes behind. But what happens when two broken strangers have their lives intersected and each realized that there is no going back once you past the point of redemption and love. In this tale of fated lovers, Ms. Blaufeld tugs all the heartstrings as she showcases the beauty of two flawed characters who were able to find redemption, solace, hope, love and comfort with each other.

When Lane Wrigley attended a yoga class on behalf of his twin brother, he never expected this one class would forever alter the course and change his life when Bess Williams collapsed on top of him.Bess was in no state to do yoga when she attended the class high and inebriated. When she had to get wheeled off to the hospital to get her stomach pumped, Bess decided to take charge of her life when she entered rehab. Fast forward five years later, Bess is now sober and living a simple life where she focuses only on work and her dog, Brooks. Call it destiny or a twist of fate but when Lane Wrigley stumbles upon Bess working at a hotel in which he is in negotiations of securing a business deal, he couldn't help but be drawn to the woman whom he couldn't stop thinking about for the past five years. Seeing Bess awakened something in Lane and he couldn't help but feel a connection to her. With no recollection of who Lane was, Bess couldn't understand why she felt this draw to Lane.

"I was like a blind person feeling my way home, touching each and every plane and surface I encountered, finding my way to comfort. And paradise."

As Lane tries to get to know Bess, he couldn't help but feel this sense of invisible tangible bond connecting them. It was like they were meant to have their lives intersect. As for Bess, Lane awakened something inside her and stirred this new passion and desire. As they begin to get to know each other, both Bess and Lane begins to let their walls surrounding their heart to crumble. Slowly, they soon find themselves in a deep, passionate love affair where there was no going back. As they begin to fall deeper in love, will Lane's demons ruin their chance at love and happiness? Is Bess strong enough to shoulder the burden of Lane's demons? Can a once broken woman be the redemption and salvation that Lane Wrigley needs? Can love really piece the broken pieces of a heart?

Redemption Lane was an emotional, gripping, and beautiful portrayal of a raw and realistic love story. It was a story where love was not rushed and instant. The story of Lane and Bess took years and months to develop. Through this period, readers were able to see that love slowly healed and pieced the broken and emptiness of Lane and Bess's heart. I loved that the author was able to weave such beauty and raw emotions as she highlighted elements of love, second chances, forgiveness and redemption throughout the story. I have to applaud Ms. Blaufeld for an amazing job as she told a heartwarming and touching tale of healing. I loved Lane and Bess's character. They were written in such a profound way that showed readers a vulnerable and realistic side. Readers were able to feel every fiber of raw emotions coursing through the page. We felt the hurt, the disappointment, the loneliness, the heartbreak, and most importantly the intense love of Lane and Bess. So if you love a story that speaks volumes on healing and second chances then I highly recommend you to read Redemption Lane. This book will pull all the heartstrings and have you begging for more of Lane and Bess.

I quit this at 25 percent.

Book God #1: We should be careful about breaking Obsidian Blue. I mean I think one more bad book she's going to be off books for a month. Maybe longer.

Book God #2: Hey, we didn't tell her to buy this book. It's not our fault none of the reviews mentioned two loathsome leads who would make her go and down a quick glass of wine and go off and play The Sims for 20 minutes to forget how riled up she got.

Book God #1: Yeah, I mean it's not like we wrote this book. I mean if I had my druthers everyone everywhere would just read Jane Austen all of the time. Not Sense and Sensibility though.

Book God #2: We have discussed this repeatedly, you need to let it go, Sense and Sensibility is fantastic!

Book God #1: Alan Rickman was a damn treasure but that does not make the book version any better.

Obsidian Blue: I really hate both of you right now. Like a lot. I mean if I ever meet you in person I am punching you both in the noses.

So 21 year old Bess is stuck in cycle of drunken hookups and drugs. Apparently because her mother left when she was young, and her father was emotionally absent, that meant she obviously need to be drug addicted.

Lane is a 20 something young businessman who keeps getting his twin brother out of scrapes because he feels responsible for him since their parents died in a car accident when they were young.

Lane meets Bess in a yoga class when she collapses after what I guess was another instance of her taking a lot of drugs.

Years later they meet again in a secluded resort in Pennsylvania and Lane feels like he has another chance to redeem himself by seeking out Bess.

I am trying to just give you bare bones because the actual story is just awful

Bess sucks. I don't mean to be unsympathetic towards a character, but Bess's justifications for why she takes drugs is crap. And it doesn't get any better when she gets clean. Her father gives her a house when she gets out of rehab, and she thinks that is the least she deserves since he was emotionally absent. I mean come the hell on. Apparently the man stayed, raised her the best he could after his wife left him and her. There is never any thought process by Bess given to that, and since I quit at 25 percent who knows if she gets her head out of her ass and stops blaming him. But to me, you are not well on your way to recovery if all you think about is how the world wronged you.

Lane is a freaking horrible person. Do you want to read about women's "tits" because Lane talks about them a lot. Or you can read about how he's a bad guy because he has long hair (yeah the thought process on that one eludes me). And we get his resentment of both his brother and also his grandparents even though they took him and his brother in. And we also get his resentment of the women in his brother's life, though it's not enough for him to not go in for his brother's "sloppy seconds." Sometimes authors can pull off having a piece of crap as the main love interest be redeemed, but sorry, I am not in the mood to see how the heck Lane gets redeemed.

We also have a third person introduced, AJ, Bess's sponsor who is going around calling Bess "his" and saying that it is pretty much her rehab place's fault for introducing him to her because they had to realize what his reaction would be. God. And don't get me started because he's just as bad as Lane with how he sizes up women.

The writing is distracting because every time it switches to Lane you get to read about some woman and her "tits" and him despising women for using him for his money, but apparently him using them for sex is somehow better? I don't know. I don't care.

And for me it took too much for me to believe that Lane years later is haunted by Bess and wishes that he had done more. The guy up to now has been as deep as a crack in a sidewalk. It makes no sense. When he meets Bess years later he doesn't reveal that he knows her and about her past. Instead he uses his position to get her to go to dinner with him. I hated the whole scene with them at dinner and really hated Bess's job for forcing her to go out with him. To me this wasn't romantic. And I have no sense of chemistry between them at all. To have Bess a chapter later start obsessing with Lane for no reason that I could see was too much for me.

We've already had one sex scene with Lane and someone else and God. Nope. I am out.

The flow is awful and the timeline has jumped twice now and I don't care enough to continue.

I really love the city of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania in general and I wish the author had actually showcased the city and state better than it being cold and dark all of the time.

5 "...make it extra good for you." Stars

This story was just a little different than my usual reads making it more interesting and easy to get lost in. Redemption Lane tells a coming-of-age story wrapped in romance with much self deprecation. It's a story of growing and maturing in order to become a person whom when you look in the mirror you can be proud. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to experience Redemption Lane.

Lane and Bess meet under circumstances of duress during a period of time in each of their lives when each of them battled inner demons. Some years later they reconnect unbeknown to Bess that they've connected once before. A tortured hero describes Lane best. He's carried the weight of his own world for years, drowning in guilt and regret chasing it away with work and fast women. Bess shadows herself with herself in order to maintain stability. She's a strong heroine given the events leading to present day. She knows what she needs in order to maintain the quiet life she needs to be healthy. Her crutch is working and avoiding the intimacy of friendships and relationships. Upon coincidence of meeting again, an inexplicable connection forms. As the secrets between them begin to accumulate, so does the feeling of passion and control they get from each other.

In Redemption Lane we also meet Jake, Lane's identical twin brother. I'm so intrigued by this character I cannot wait to get inside his head in the next book in this series. I have this feeling about Jake that his story is going to rock me.

What I love about Rachel Blaufeld's writing is that she doesn't hide exactly the kind of people her character's are from the reader. You know first and foremost, thanks to fantastic inner dialogues and humility from her characters, exactly what struggles they have. You get to know their persona's intimately yet you're still cloaked in the mystery of the plot. It's not a thriller, don't read me wrong, but subtle caveats and nuances of weaving past and present sneak up on you as your reading providing more depth to the story.

I'm so glad I've had the chance to read and fall in love with this author's work. Her writing is poignant and focused. Her story-telling consuming and precise. She draws your attention to her characters and tells you a tale of hardships and beauty through the eyes of real people struggling for solace in their chaotic minds. Redemption Lane is not to be missed.

Favorite Quote(s):
"I think it's a reminder for anyone who cares for you to make it extra good for you. All the time, extra good. In bed, out to dinner or lunch, or just sitting and watching TV, everything in your life should be a little bit better than for everyone else because of what you went through."

Overall Opinion: I have had this book on my tbr list forever, so when I saw it was free — I snagged it and them jumped right in! It wasn’t what I had expected. I actually had to go back and read the blurb after a while because it was so different from what I was expecting. I thought the h was associated with the H’s messed up brother somehow...but no, I was just wrong. It’s funny how those expectations we unintentionally set for books can really effect the way we experience them. I wouldn’t say I hated it or anything, it just wasn’t my favorite. It felt a little too slow, a little too back and forth, and it’s just not going down on my favorites shelf. Overall, it was an okay read for me.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Bess and Lane’s story. Lane and Bess meet unofficially on the day Bess hits rock bottom before going to rehab. Years later they meet again, but Bess doesn’t remember their first encounter. Lane pursues Bess and she is hesitant because she is comfortable in her well controlled new life, but she also cannot deny the pull she feels towards Lane. There are some secrets revealed, some sexy times, and some drama...and they get a HEA ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Bess and Lane’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Alright. I never skimmed but I thought it felt slow at some points and was tempted.

Instalove: No, they connect instantly but I wouldn’t classify it as instalove.

H (Hero) rating: 3.5 stars. Lane. I liked him but I also didn’t like the secrets he kept from the h. I felt like he was really inconsiderate of the possible backlash for her with her past that might come if he hurt her.

h (heroine) rating: 3.5 stars. Bess. I liked her at times, but others I felt like she was a little too self absorbed — which made me conflicted because I felt it was also understandable in a way because of her past.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: Yes

Cheating: Not IMO

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had some closure with what I would call a HEA ending, but I was bummed that the epilogue was mostly spent with a teaser for the next book instead of giving us more of their HEA!

Safety: This one is probably either Safe with exception or Not safe for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

5 Emotionally Charged Stars!

Wow, I am completely blown away with the emotional intensity of this book! I have to be honest, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Bess and I had held out for quite some time on reading this due to my preconceived feelings. Well let me tell you......wow, I was completely blown off kilter with her character. Talk about making a premature and might I add, "idiotic" decision on my part, lol. Bess's character blew me away, she was unlike any character that I have read about and I loved every single flawed and beautiful part of her:) I can't even begin to describe my feelings about her but let me try... She was tragically flawed, she was beautiful but yet oh so broken, she was strong but yet felt the weight of the world on her shoulders, she was just, ahhhhh, I connected with her completely and understood her every thought, her every emotion, she was perfectly imperfect. She was a character we don't get to read about, she was far from privileged, she was very far from perfect, she didn't have the model career with the model friends and the perfect arm candy. Bess was a TRUE woman, she worked hard at everything and it was not easy on her but damn, this girl, she was just so.....REAL in every sense. She was a girl, that most all of us know in real life, whether it be a friend, a relative, a co-worker, you name it she was just the most relatable person and for that I applaud the author!

This story wasn't just a typical romance novel, oh no, it was SO MUCH more than that! It was about self discovery, it was about addictions, addictive behavior, it was downright heartbreaking, so much so, that my heart literally felt so "heavy" at times during this read and not just for Bess but for Lane as well. Lane, oh Lane, hmmm where to begin with him. He was such a complex character, he was just a shell of man living on "auto" pilot for most of his life until he stumbled once again upon Bess but don't let that fool you into insta-love, and happily ever after right away, oh no, it was a long and tough journey that took me on the most beautiful yet most heartbreaking roller coaster ride and I was totally and fully invested in these two. Lane, let me tell you that I could have smacked him with my Kindle a few times and I mean it! He made the MOST infuriating decisions and the hurt I felt for Bess, I can't even begin to describe. I cried a few times and my heart was so heavy that it hurt but in the end, it was SO worth it. My dear Rachel Blaufeld, as usual, mended my very broken heart with such tenderness, such care that it was as if it never broke in the first place:)

Oh my....... I started this yesterday and finished last night before bed and yes, huge mistake, lolololol, I didn't get much sleep, of course, this story just played through my mind all night long! This story had so many dimensions to it, it was such a fulfilling journey, albeit tough at times, it just had so many levels of complexity and yet it all fit together perfectly!!!!

Author Rachel Blaufeld, you delivered another brilliantly written novel, one that played on every emotion possible and I thank you. Congrats and I cannot wait to delve straight into Jake's story because I just need to know, my heart needs to know that he will be ok too:)

AMAZING, AMAZING, Did I tell you this book is AMAZING!!!

Another hit series for Rachel Blaufeld. I instantly feel for both Bess and Lane and the struggles they were holding onto in their pasts.

Bess was the party girl who lost herself to drugs, alcohol and men. Lane was the brother trying to keep his brother out of trouble, only digging a deeper hole for the two of them. Lane was at the right place and right time to save Bess. But when he put her into an ambulance to fend for herself, the guilt was eating away at him, even years later.

Bess has no clue that Lane was the one who saved her that fateful night. So when he shows back up in her life, she feels a connection but has no clue as to what it is or most importantly why.

Lane and Bess are emotional and raw. You feel their pain, their fears, their joys and sorrows. Rachel makes you feel every feel in the best possible way, giving you a full on experience leaving you wanting more.

A bit of a slow starter, but if you'll stick with it you'll find it worthwhile. There's a fast-forward type timeline and sometimes it feels a little off-balance. Here again, it's not enough to throw the whole game out of sync. I trudged onward and became interested in the lives of broken people who survive sorrow, addictions and loneliness.

All in all, not a bad read.

Redemption Lane... Ohhhh...OH just another hit it out of the park, home run from Rachel Blaufeld!

Absolutely Amazing. The perfect mixture of romance and mystery!!! Each chapter was like a cliffhanger leaving me wanting more... more.... More!!!

This story is slightly different from her previous two releases, but each book she writes is even more emotional than the last. Hands down Rachel Blaufeld is one of my favorite Romance Authors.

I found myself immediately drawn into Bess and Lane's story. I don't know any recovering addicts personally, but every single emotion, thought, and physical reaction Bess had in the story made complete and total sense for me to understand the mind of a recovering addict. She is strong in the way that I like all my female leading ladies to be - tough and able to stand on her own!

Lane is a successful businessman living in Miami - far away from his past in his home town. He is an epically beautiful tortured soul, a man who was wrestling with demons of his own, but on a different level than Bess. All of which makes his painful secret all the more gut-wrenching to watch unfold in the manner it did. Lane is caring, romantic and thoughtful - attentive to Bess and what she needs, and that is SO SEXY!

The writing style is impeccable and flows beautifully from scene to scene. Told from multiple POV's, I absolutely love the way each character's voice really shines through from chapter to chapter. Blaufeld's writing is exceptional with descriptive details - especially in the way she emotionally connects you to her characters. I actually ached for both Lane and Bess. I loved the twists and turns. Something Rachel is extremely proficient in is keeping her readers guessing. You'll be asking yourself, "Oh, how will it all pan out?!!"

Redemption Lane will tug at your heartstrings and leave you wanting MORE! A five star must read - not to be missed!

I would like to start with pointing out how beautiful this cover is! One look at it and you want to just snuggle up on the couch and not stop reading.
The story line is very different from anything I’ve read before. This story has 3 POVs; Bess, Lane, and AJ. It deals with a girl who was out of control with partying, drinking, and drugs. Its emotional, it’s a story of loss and love and finding a happy ending. Bess is an addict and you read about her struggles with staying sober, finding herself again, and finding love. You then meet Lane. He has all sort of baggage he is running from. He has a past that ties him to Bess and you take this journey with them. Will secrets, past nightmares, and coping with the struggles of life lead them to a happily ever after? You will want to read this book to find out!
I really enjoyed this book. It was passionate, heartbreaking at times, and made my heart feel happy. I really recommend reading this book. It takes contemporary romance out of its box and gives you this wonderful story about 3 people working through life and all its craziness. I totally recommend this book and this author. This is the second book I have read from her and they keep getting better and better. The next book in this series is Absolution Road which follows Lane’s twin brother Jake. In the end of Redemption Lane you get a little sneak peek at this book and it pulls you right in! I can’t wait to start the second book.

Redemption Lane... a very suitable title for this thought provoking story. Two people doing the best they can to cope with the demons that haunt them from their past. A touching story that you need to read all the way to the end to truly appreciate.
The Bess we meet in the beginning of the book is on a path of self destruction. I didn't like her and that's okay because she finally hit bottom when she collapsed and found herself in rehab. The evolved Bess that we meet a few years later is one that I highly respected. She definitely owned the mistakes of her past and re-built a life that enabled her to keep her addictions under control. The author did an amazing job with this character. The steps that she needed to take for her to finally be able to fully embrace all that life had to offer was not an easy one. She continued to make mistakes as she bravely took steps forward but always owned them and tried to learn from them. I was proud of her for always reaching out to her support group for help instead of reaching for the quick fixes that she did when she was younger. It showed that she was dedicated to her recovery. This is not easy to do, I have relatives who struggle with addictions. The temptation is always there and it takes a strong person to keep it at bay. When you've done terrible things that you are ashamed of, quite often you feel like you do not deserve redemption or happiness. Forgiving ourselves is the hardest part of this process. I was proud of Bess for allowing herself to finally embrace happiness.
Lane wasn't recovering from any addictions, but he was haunted by a tragic event from his past. He and his twin brother Jake had a very toxic relationship as a result in which Lane bore most of the emotional burden. Call it fate, or karma... but, Lane just happened to be there when Bess hit bottom all those years ago. He didn't know her, but was always haunted by this young woman who was so beautiful on the outside but clearly had demons haunting her. He was also riddled with guilt that he didn't do more to help her.
Where Bess had built a life of isolation around herself and pretty much had decided that she was destined for a life of loneliness. Lane had isolated himself by throwing himself into his work and constantly coddling his brother through his many, many shortcomings. I despised his brother Jake... truly despised him. I wanted so badly for Lane to walk away from this toxic relationship.
Bess and Lane cross paths again quite by accident years after their brief meeting during her breakdown... and, there was an instant connection. Long story short... he became her reason to move forward and embrace something real and she was his reason to finally face his haunted past. I love how they both found a way to help the other find redemption.
The only reason why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I would've preferred this to be less sexually driven and had more focus on the tender and emotional moments they shared. If I were reading erotica I would expect a lot of lust filled pages, but for some reason I just didn't feel like the erotic scenes fit with this particular story, I feel it needed a more fade to black approach. I skimmed through the sex scenes because I was more interested in their emotional journey. That is of course just a personal pet peeve and something that might not bother anyone else. :)
I also did not care for the inclusion of A.J.'s POV... I didn't like him and I hated his internal dialogue. He was a vulgar, awful man that degraded women in his thoughts. His character did play a pivotal role in Bess's story, but I didn't really need to hear what was going on in his head. I didn't want her anywhere near that guy.
The next book in the series is called Absolution Road... it's not out yet... but, will focus on the story of Lane's brother Jake. I'm going to be honest... that's gonna' be a hard sell for me. If the author is able to successfully redeem that character I'm going to be highly impressed! So, yep... I'll be giving that one a go just to see if she can do it. :)

Nice story overall and one I would definitely recommend...

Two individuals inflicted with past mistakes. Mistakes that altered lives. Mistakes that ended up providing devastating results. And, how do you go on? One day at a time. Picking up the pieces as they lay scattered around within your world as a reminder to just breath to survive. This was one heartfelt drama. I definitely endured their pain. The author wrote some pretty emotional trauma that no two people should have to struggle with. The loss of a parent whether by abandonment or death is horrifying. And, it’s with those losses that both individuals feel broken. Wow! I must say I didn’t see Lane’s tragedy coming. It was hidden really well. Just like I always say, I love that unpredictable moment when everything is revealed so shockingly. Bess’s storyline is pretty apparent from the very beginning. But, it’s the hidden truths behind Lane’s secrets that could prove disastrous for this couple.

I can’t say that there is much laughter within the pages of this page. It’s more filled with drama and heartache. But, there is love and eventually honesty. There is sadness and abuse. There are second chances to make things right. And, there is hope for a better life. The author wrote a lot of the story pretty soulfully when it came to the characters and their eventual thoughts towards the end. I’m having a hard time, though, really putting my words down on paper because I just felt so much while reading this. It’s hard to know where to start as far as putting my thoughts together. But, I will say that I felt triumph for both main characters. Their’s is a story worth reading. It speaks from the heart. It really made me stop and think of how far that they had come from the beginning to the end.

Lane is a pretty hard person to describe. He’s pretty much perfection in looks and the way he dresses. Fit and in shape. Wears all the designer clothes. But, it’s within his soul that the damage has festered. It eats at him with nightmares and secrets. He puts on a great front as he cleans up everyone else’s messes. He’s a great enabler.

Now Bess is totally different. Her life is pretty much an open book. She knows her past was destructive and abusive, and she does everything in her power to keep herself on the straight and narrow. She’s a hardworker and dresses the part. No designer clothes for her. She’s a waitress at a well-established hotel restaurant. She likes her job and has no desire to change where her life is at at the moment. And, when she meets Lane, all that goes out the door.

I loved their story and where it goes. I loved their relationship and how it grew. Two amazing characters that found each other and their will to survive. This is one of those stories that just made me feel. Couldn’t stop reading it. Now, onto the next installment in this series. Lane’s brother, Jake, has definitely more issues it seems. Should it should be interesting to see where Ms. Blaufeld takes his story.

This is an excellent story about redemption, about forgiving yourself, about letting the past stay in the past.

Bess and Lane are both carrying heavy burdens that have made it very difficult for either of them to let any one get close. But from the moment they meet there's a connection between them that can't be denied. For Lane, the connection is easily explained- he has been thinking about Bess every day for the past 4 years, every since the day she quite literally fell into his lap. For Bess it's not that easy, but she knows there's something about him that draws her in.

I really felt for both of these characters- they had a lot of personal demons they both needed to work through. And seeing how they handled them, watching as they grew together and separately, really pulled at my heart.

This is a heartwrenching, emotional read, that will really draw you in right from the beginning. The characters are real and captivating, the story is engaging. Redemption Lane is not a sweet, flowery, read...it will make you think, and it will make you feel.

Redemption Lane is my first book by Rachel Blaufeld, I grabbed it after I was lucky enough to receive an arc of Absolution Road...I wanted to know the first part of the story before jumping into AR. Although you could possibly read these as standalones I really feel for the best experience you read this first, before going on to Jake's story.

Redemption Lane is #99cents this week only! #kindle, #nook, #ibooks, #kobo - http://www.rachelblaufeld.com/redempt...

It took me a while, but I had to leave a short review for Lane.
Mostly -- a thanks to those of you who have read and loved Lane already.

A different story for me to write-- I left the glitzy setting of the Electric Tunnel series behind and traveled to rural PA for this one. To me, this is a tale of survival and passion. Years ago, I spent some time working in and with addiction, and I was struck by a few strong women in particular. Making their own rules, taking life and not allowing it to take them, they were the original influences for Bess.

Lane, a tragically broken shell of a man, doesn't come alive until he meets Bess. In her simplicity and strength, she teaches him how to forgive, forget, and live on.

This was a special book for me to write on perseverance - close to my heart and my hometown of Pittsburgh.

There are some books I read by authors I love and think this author just gets better with every book. Then there are some books I read by authors I love and think; this author just f-ing blew all my expectations out of the water. Rachel Blaufeld just dropped an amazing lit bomb all up on me. I want to say first I am a huge fan of hers, starting with her first book Electrified. The one thing that always stands out to me about her is how she completely draws you in with scenery alone. Almost as if the scenery and location takes on a life of its own; as if it is another in character in her well crafted story. In Redemption Lane she does not disappoint in her, what I would call, signature move. I don't even know where to start in talking about this book other than to start with Lane and Bess. I can honestly say I wasn't sure how I would feel about Bess in the beginning but to see her constantly developing as a character was refreshing. She never moved backward, only forward, always learning from her mistakes. Always. And Lane. Lane broke my heart in the most epic way possible. Over and over again and I loved every second he did because I truly felt for him. The best part of this whole book, is that it is so easy to relate with. I don't want to give too much away because it truly is something you should experience on your own, but there were many points in reading their journey I thought to myself; I have been there. Bess and Lane's story will suck you in, build you up, rip you apart, destroy you, then put you back together again. It is a must read! And also...I can not freaking wait for Jake's story...

I received an ARC copy of Redemption Lane and let me just say that I read the book in less than 24 hours I just couldn't put it down. This story was so different than Rachel's other two books Electrified and Smoldered (great books go read them) but just as wonderful!! Rachel has a way with words that pulls you in and never lets you go even after you finished reading. She leaves me speechless every time I read one of her books.

Redemption Lane is about two broken people trying to live life even though they have messed up pasts. Together they find a peace within themselves. The characters are amazing and I felt like I could see the scenery that Rachel described from the snow covered hills to the sunny beaches!!

Rachel Blaufeld your books are going to be huge one day....YOU ROCK!!

What a wonderful story of two broken souls looking for redemption for themselves.

Addict Bess meets Lane during a substance induced blackout. They have a chance encounter again 5 years and unbeknownst to Bess, Lane is on a mission to get acquainted with the girl who he can't get out of his mind.

This is well written book with a few surprising twists and turns that leave you wanting to know more.

I love Rachel's writing style and story telling more and more with each book I read. I can't wait for more!

This story started really slow for me...to the point where I thought I wouldn't be able to finish. But the story soon got so much better and soon I was turning pages and reading this wonderful story. I loved Lane and Bess...their demons, their past, but their love and ending was the best.

Review by Jen Hagen

Five years ago Bess was living the party life complete with alcohol and drugs. A life-changing experience forced her to leave that lifestyle behind. Now she adheres to a regimented schedule in order to keep herself balanced. No extra time means no extra time to think about ways she could be filling the emptiness in her life. She has been clean for 5 years and does not want any temptations to lead her into that lifestyle again. She is happy living in a secluded cabin with her dog, working as a waitress, and attending nightly meetings with her sponsor, AJ.

AJ has been there for Bess since the moment she walked out of the rehab center. He knows what it is like to battle an addiction and come out on the other side as a winner. He is a successful 30-year-old construction contractor and has recently decided that he needs to act upon his infatuation with Bess. He feels that she is ready to take the next step in their friendship. Bess just so happens to begin feeling that she is alone in the world and maybe being with AJ is something that she should allow herself.

Lane is the identical twin brother to Jake. Lane and Jake’s parents died in a car accident when they were 9 years old. Lane feels a boatload of resentment towards Jake for always having to clean up his messes. It was because of Jake’s mess that Lane continuously replays a day in his head and feels like he should have done more. Lane has coated himself with a suit of armor (a business suit) and maintains a playboy lifestyle jetting off to his business meetings and takeovers. It is on one of his business ventures where he meets Bess. He is instantly pulled towards Bess, and Lane has a certain way about him that lets him get whatever he wants, even if it takes time.

Both AJ and Lane are wonderful men. One wears his heart on his sleeve, and the other feels he is not worthy of anybody owning his heart. One man will fall victim to a broken heart while the other will have Bess trying to unravel the meaning of the darkness overshadowing his eyes. Will she be able to handle the truth once it is suddenly unveiled?

This was an enjoyable read. The story spans over a year, and I liked the slow development, continual healing, and growth of character. I knew there was more to the underlying story and I was thrown for a loop when it came full circle…there’s always 9 degrees of separation between you and somebody else in this world. Another character will be featured in the next installment, and I hope more of this twist will be addressed as the story concluded without delving more into it.

What if you walked away from something that you shouldn't have?
Should have helped but instead turned the cheek?

What if you wanted Redemption for your walking out? Had the chance but still lied?

Welcome to the life of Lane.

Rich, powerful, and so damn sexy your panties will melt.

But with Lane comes secrets and lies.

Demons so far back that he has learned to cope with them.
Until an unexpected meeting sends those Demons to the forefront of his mind.
A secret that has haunted him for years but yet his twin, Jake, has been able to live freely sharing the same secret.

Bess has struggled for a long time and has gotten help for her addictions.

Attending meetings regularly she has overcome her addictions.

But a sexy man that walks into her life may unravel all her hard work.
Familiar but yet new she allows her "schedule" to accommodate him.

The only man in her life for five years is is a four legged hairy fur baby Brooks.
Can she handle a two legged person invading her schedule of working, walks in the park and meetings?

Redemption can be earned.....eventually.

I am very excited for the next in the series.

Jake will have so many Demons that I am eagerly waiting for them to unfold.

FIVE STARS!

Best part: Broken and flawed characters who come to life on the page! A+++++

Rachel has a unique way of describing her character's reactions and feelings that prick at your heart and suck you into their story.

What hooked me: The h and H first meet at a yoga class where the h is not herself and doesn't make a stellar impression. (No spoilers)

I especially loved the locale descriptions: beaches in sunny Florida to the cold mountains of Pennsylvania. I felt it was a lot like the characters...two-sided, sometimes hot and then cold, high then low. The H does a lot of pushing away which makes for an angsty read...which is my fav, of course.

Overall, this is a book about redemption and facing the demons and guilt of our past. Both characters bring some heartache to the table but all is resolved. I love my HEAs!

Love triangle? Kinda sorta but not really. lol

Steam factor? Off the charts with several sexy scenes. HOT with two t's! Don't read in public. :)

This is definitely a must read if you love Contemporary/Erotica romance that has some meaning behind it.

Redemption Lane, Rachel Blaufeld's newest book in her new series, Crossroads, is a stark reminder that things always have a way of coming back full circle. These characters are extraordinarily crafted in a way that will pull at your heart strings while making you feel so much love, passion and need.

Lane Wrigley is a self-made millionaire, playboy. He wears his armor strong by never having relationships while working non-stop. Dabbling in all different types of women, yet never having more. Now living in Miami, he's running from a past that always seems to find a way of haunting him. A chance meeting at one of his hotels back home in Pennsylvania brings Lane face to face with the woman that has been in his dreams since that fateful day at his brother's gym. The woman who was screaming to be saved, but he refused to help. So, hope takes bloom for Lane and he can't let her go again.

Bess Williams is a recovering addict. She struggles every day to stay on the lamb. Now working as a hotel waitress, Bess lives a simple life. She has her dog, Brooks Bailey, her small cabin in the woods and a routine that helps keep her sane. Since her comeback from the dark-side four years ago, Bess hasn't been with a man, didn't feel that she would ever be able to enjoy the company of a man because of her caustic past. In walks Lane Wrigley and everything changes for Bess.

This was a phenomenal story filled with passion, love and redemption. However, the bigger picture here is how the author brings to light a dreaded topic across the world, addiction. Whether it's drugs, alcohol, sex, lies, etc. it all can torture a person the same way. I was impressed by the author's carefully, elegant manner of hitting on this topic with a need and hope that will leave the reader feeling complete once again. I can't express how much this book touched me to the core of my soul. As with her other books, Rachel ensnares the reader and won't you let go! What a beautiful atonement, Rachel.

Hero - Lane Wrigley 5.0 stars
Heroine - Bess Williams 5.0 stars
Steam Level: 5.0 stars
Plot: 5.0 stars
Cliffhanger: Yes

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This book was everything I was hoping it would be. From the beginning, I was captured by the underlying storyline and the beautiful characters that will hold your heart and never let go.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! Absolutely! I've been a hug fan of everything Rachel Blaufeld from the beginning with her Electric Tunnel series. I am immensely excited by this new series, Crossroad's series. As always, she writes in such an eloquent manner that always satisfies her readers!

The story starts out with 21 year old Bess, who after struggling with the memories of her childhood, turned to drink and drugs, anything she could get her hands on, in a way to try and forget. She got dragged to a yoga class by her friend Camper, and disaster happens when she collapses. Hopefully this will be the wakeup call she needs?

Lane was an up and coming CEO who was always fixing his brother Jake's mess, and is less than impressed when he gives in again and does Jake a favour at the gym that he owns and ends up having to deal with a young woman who literally collapses at his feet.

Four years later, Lane meets Bess again but she has no idea who he is, she doesn't remember a thing about the night she almost died.

I absolutely loved this book! I have read the authors other books, Electrified and Smouldered which are both very good but this is easily my favourite.

Lane and Bess with both dealing with the troubled childhood they both had, but in very different ways.

I was gripped to the story all the way through and it was packed with twists and a few shocks!

The story is written in multiple POV which I love! I feel that you get to know the characters a bit more and get to know their thoughts and feelings of each of them.

I can't wait for Absolution Road to be released, although Lane and Jake are brothers it's clear that they are very different and I'm looking forward to finding out how much in Jake's story.
