I'm a romance author who loves Over The Top alpha males who are possessive and completely obsessed with their person or mate. Nothing will get in their way from claiming what's theirs. I enjoy writing darker type romances whether in the contemporary world, PNR worlds, or even post-apocalyptic worlds.
The post-apocalyptic setting was cool and had potential. The smut was fine, but the writing and the insta-love and insta-lust didn’t do anything for me. The pieces that would’ve made a really great and captivating story are there, but they just don’t connect.
For a post apocalyptic world the world is not very fleshed out. By part 3 it's vaguely established what happened to the world. Little introduction to the characters and what got them to where they are. A backstory that feels like we should have been introduced far further back than we are, and characters with no real depth in interpersonal relationships or how they relate to the world. Devon is more annoying in the first part but more fun in the second, and in the third part Mac is the absolute worst at communication. Just more flimsy than a piece of rice paper. 2.5 stars rounded to 3 only because it started to get interesting when all four characters started interacting.
2/5🌟 Before I tear this book apart; I did not hate it, but there are about 20 or so things they could’ve improved to make this better. Currently it feels like a wattpad story or bunch of tumbler story chapters thrown into a book and even with the omnibus of four books they all feel very disconnected. I get it if the author only wants to write sex and intense emotional scenes but that’s it. In four (albeit short) books we get small hints of backstory for all four characters (two couples) but there isn’t enough substance outside of the sex and insecurity of the characters. More world building or calm interactions between the characters would do this world wonders. The omnibus of four books is less than 300 pages long and it definitely could’ve used more. A lot of times I would get whiplash because they’d be in the middle of an intense emotional scene then they would go right to fucking and it felt very out of place. The story also isn’t complete so I’m hoping future installments make adjustments to add to the world, they did this a bit better in the very last book of the omnibus but it still wasn’t enough and was overshadowed by everything else. (Omnibus is just a collection of multiple books in one book, I’m putting this here bc I did not know this previously)
I was having withdrawals from the Titans hockey series, so I found that they wrote another short series and gave it a shot. The first half is Rex and Devon, the second half is Mac and Cal. Honestly, I wish there was more, again, because I feel like this could have been a phenomenal series if it was full length. I wanted to see more of what happens with the four of them now they are under the same roof, and I wanted to see how the friendship between Devon and Cal blossoms.
This wasn’t that dark, more the world come to an end, there’s barely anyone left, but there’s a bunch of violent gangs around, so there’s some mild action/killing. Otherwise, this is a well written BDSM age difference romance with protective leaders. Mistakes are made, trust is given, and in the whole madness of this new world they finally have a family again, someone to rely on. They are not alone.
