When the Mooner family oversleeps, Mortimer has fun creating a last-minute lunch for his father by coming up with a sandwich of peanut butter, pickles, and cheese
"Mortimer Mooner Makes Lunch," by Frank B. Edwards, is a cute, and fun picture book for kids to read. This book shares the story of the Mooners--two pigs, Mortimer and his father. When the Mortimers oversleep, Mortimer realizes his father only has 10 minutes to catch his bus. This starts a countdown that makes the story fun, and comical, as Father Mooner gets ready in 10 minutes and Mortimer makes his father a lunch. At the end of the story, Father Mooner falls down the stairs in a hurry, and his newspaper falls on his face, revealing that it is Saturday and he doesn't have to go into work after all.
I think this story would be a great read aloud for a younger audience, such as K-2nd grade. The story is comical, and because it involves a countdown, kids will really get into the book. You can read the book with expression, and humor, and the illustrations are bright, fun, and also add more humor to the story line. This is why I think this book would be a great read aloud for K-2.
This was a very cute story. Mortimer’s father is rushing to get to work because he’s running late so he enlists Mortimer’s help in making him his lunch. Mortimer starts making his dad a huge sandwich while calling out how many minutes he has left to get out the door on time. As his father rushes out the door Mortimer hands him his enormous lunch. His dad trips over the Newspaper laying on the front porch and lands in the front yard where he realizes he tripped over the Saturday Newspaper and he does not have to go to work that day. Very cute and funny!
This is another great Mortimer Mooner book for young readers. It's got it all: a fun and simple story, delightful illustrations that are absolutely over-the-top (so funny for little kids) and a great way of teaching counting backwards. This is a winner for young kids--preschool, kindergarten, first grade--and even for the bigger kids who just want a laugh.
Yes! This is a fun count-down book! (10-1). Sweet little story in which Mortimer makes lunch for his dad. The kids will love that it includes a "BLAST OFF" at the end of the count down.. and a funny ending.
This was a fun 'repetitive' type storybook for my 3 year old granddaughter and I to read. A little boy helps his Daddy get around for work. They wake up late and as Dad is getting ready for work Moritmer is making a HUGE lunch and a surprise ending makes the story nice.
