Court of Chains #3

Green-Eyed Monster: A Court of Chains Story

Rate this book
An Envy fiend can only crave. And what she craves most is the forbidden body of a beautiful witch.

Witches follow many laws, but Angela Norwood loves breaking the rules. She can get away with it too, if she stays focused. When your arcane research could get you thrown on a pyre, you shouldn’t entertain distractions. That includes the shadowy demon who just joined the Court of Chains, and whose mocking comments and green-eyed stares are fueling some highly inappropriate fantasies.

There’s nothing Vex hates more than witches, and brilliant, gorgeous, untouchable Angela Norwood is the most detestable witch of all. With her provoking smirks and secret intentions, the Chains witch has turned into an all-consuming fixation. Her prim and proper act may have fooled everyone else, but Vex won’t rest until she’s revealed Angela’s twisted desires.

But others have noticed the clever witch of Chains. Enemies beyond the Court have taken an interest in her secretive work, and suddenly, Vex has a choice to make. Let the threat to the Chains go undisturbed. Or wreak havoc on the people who’d dare threaten the object of her obsession.

Green-Eyed Monster is an enemies-to-lovers sapphic paranormal romance featuring wicked witches, sinful demons, and an arcane love story that defies impossible odds.

I'm gonna need a minute babes... I'm gonna need several minutes.... omg.
OH HELL YES—Green-Eyed Monster by Rawnie Sabor is exactly the kind of sapphic demon-witch enemies-to-lovers chaos I crave at 2am when I want to feel destroyed and mended at the same time. This series?? A full-blown obsession.

Book three in the Court of Chains series is all about Envy, so of course it’s gonna get dark. Rawnie doesn’t shy away from the intensity—this is a razor-sharp, soul-clawing, kink-infused love story between two powerful women who absolutely should not want each other… and yet??? They burn. They crave. And we are so lucky to witness it.

Let’s start with Vex—our demon of Envy, who is MEAN, chaotic, and emotionally feral. It took me more than a minute to warm up to her, because she comes in guns blazing with that “I hate you but also I’m obsessed with you” energy. But babes… once you crack her open and see what’s really underneath that sharp exterior? OH. The spiral. The yearning. The devotion. I was gone.

And Angela Norwood?? She’s a witch, she’s brilliant, and she is a revelation. Rawnie wrote her with such intentional grace—Angela is logical, emotionally grounded, unapologetically powerful, and deliciously complex. She’s not just “the love interest,” she’s the heart of this book. She makes Vex work for it, in every way, and I loved her for it.

The tension between them is wild. Like “I hate you, don’t touch me” vs. “I will burn the world down for you” wild. And when it finally breaks? Rawnie is COOKING. The spice is hot—but more importantly, it’s meaningful. Every intimate scene is loaded and layered with emotion (good and bad), power play, shifting dynamics, and character evolution. This is not fluff kink. It's intense. This is well-written, well-researched, intelligent erotic storytelling, and Rawnie nails it.

And let’s talk craft for a second—Rawnie’s books are thick (hello, 500+ pages) but not a word is wasted. Her worldbuilding is rich, her pacing is tight, and her themes?? Always layered. Power, control, longing, rage, transformation—it’s all here. You will be bruised. You will be rebuilt. You will absolutely scream into a pillow.

Allie Shea’s narration? 🔥 Incredible. She captures the emotional weight and sharp tension between the leads so well, bringing Vex’s prickly rage and Angela’s quiet strength to life. It’s immersive and addictive.

Look. I was stressed. I was sweating. I panicked a few times. I sent a few texts to a book bestie (we're buddy-listening to this) b/c I was spinning.. I won't lie - for a few scenes - I was low-key concerned lol. ..But I also trusted Rawnie to take care of us. And she does. She always does.

Green-Eyed Monster is queer, kinky, witchy perfection—if Rawnie Sabor writes it, I will devour it. Bring on the next book. My soul is ready (probably)... I'm counting the days.. and stalking social media for any hints..

Once again, it’s another masterpiece I’ve had the privilege to read.

I loved this book for so many reasons, and I can’t wait to share my full thoughts on why it was amazing at its release. (I’ll definitely update this here on the 17th!)

Vex and Angela had such a unique relationship. The depth of their feelings and emotions was so well written. Seeing them be raw and vulnerable with each other, even without fully understanding why, was so heartwarming.

As always, there’s a lot happening in this book, with just the right amount of drama to keep you on your toes. Getting more of the Arcanist arc after Wrath and Patience was also very satisfying.

Yet nothing compares to Natalya. She’s the heart of everything, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Overall, please just go read this entire series. Every book has its own dynamic but I can confidently say they all share the same warmth, and you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you so much to Rawnie Sabor for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this Court of Chains installment! Having not one but two ice queens in Angela and Vex was an absolute delight, and watching their guarded dynamic melt into something deeper was one of the book’s biggest strengths. The blend of spice, drama, and angst is spot-on, and the pacing is so smooth that I flew through the chapters without ever wanting to put it down.

I also loved getting more time with my favorite fiend, Natalya, and it was a treat to see Sam and Drago again. Honestly, if you like enemies-to-lovers tension, “touch her and die” devotion, and ice queens with hidden heat, this installment is going to hit all the right notes.

Green-eyed Monster by Rawnie Sabor is mindblowingly good. It’s a fantasy story that follows the Sin, Envy, as she navigates her new life in the Court of Chains.

The layers, intricacies and connections between the characters, the spells and their state of mind…as a reader you could see and feel the gradual shift in the development and it’s an amazing feeling growing with the characters. You could tell each chapter was laboured zealously by the author because the scenes, the conflicts, the existential crises encountered by the characters were all sound and logical but also heartfelt. Basically, the whole story is a well balanced, properly proportioned writing that has logic, supernatural abilities and potent emotional bonds endearing readers to characters. I swear, if you haven’t read the Court of Chains series, I feel bad for you because you are missing out on a very good story. Green-eyed Monster so far, is my favourite of the three.

I am crossing my fingers and toes there’ll be a story about Maya and Eden separately because those two got me soooooo curious and excited about their possible stories! Eeeeeeek I’m so excited!

Oh I forgot to say, I received an ARC from the author. Thank you very much for the opportunity ❤️

It was so worth the wait. Rawnie Sabor is the only author who could make me read, enjoy, and root for relationships/sex scenes that would normally make me uncomfortable in other books. The characters and their relationships are so layered and complex, and I LOVE complexity. Just like her two other books that I have read, I was hooked from page one, embarking on a journey that takes me out of my comfort zone, balancing fantasy, romance, strong chemistry, and action. When the book starts, Angela and Vex are opposites and hate each other. And Sabor is toeing that hate/passion/love line with such brio. Making an Envy fiend fall in love seems like such a delicate exercise. Vex is not nice; she thinks she is capable of only hate and destruction.
I loved the twist that changed that. Their initial relationship and sexual relationship are based on mutual provocation and an inability to ignore each other. The relationship going forward, with scenes where characters are in danger and save each other, is one of my favorite things.

Now, I have to admit I hate Quinn, but I secretly hope she will have her story where she finds peace, redemption, and love with a hot, dark creature, maybe with the adorable Maya?

I just love this series: the mix of darkness, action, violence, and incredible romantic relationships is 🤌

Holy. F-ing. Sh!t…..Wow! 🫠 I need a second…

That. Was amazing. Rawnie, you’re amazing!! I received this an ARC, which I’m so grateful, and this is my own honest review.
This book left me absolutely speechless at some parts. And I feel sad that it ended! I just wanted more 😂

Honestly, if you’ve ever been on the fence about reading Rawnie’s books, just do it. I promise you won’t be disappointed. There are MF book in the Court of Chains world but if that isn’t your thing, no problem, you can totally read all the sapphic books and not lose any of the story!

This book had everything! Enemies to Lovers, a demon you wanted to hate and a witch you can’t get enough of! We have Dom/Sub dynamics, some of the most amazing spice ever! Truly, chefs kiss! So much plot!! And loveable side characters and edge of your seat conflict! Touch her and 💀 vibes, healing from trauma and a demon who wants to make all her darkest desires come true 😈

Written in third person with 2x POV’s. Part of the Court of Chains series. Narrated by Allie Shae. Paranormal, Demon/Witch, Friends with Benefits, Healing from Trauma, Dom/Sub dynamic, Enemies to Lovers, Touch her and Die. 7x Spicy Scenes.

Amazing novel. They just keep on getting better in this series, and that is always something that you love to see. I hope the author keeps on pumping out (at a reasonable and sustainable pace!) these novels forever because I plan on reading each and every one of them. This novel had some excellent characters (main and side), a gripping plot, and continued adding on to the already wonderful worldbuilding. Highly recommend.

These novels can all be read as standalones (actually, and not just how some authors falsely claim that), but I think they work better if you read the series. THAT SAID, the characters featured in each book are weighted more towards the recent novels as opposed to the earlier ones, so while I think that you benefit from reading earlier books in the series first, I don’t think you need to begin right at the start if that’s too much for your TBR. I haven’t seen this before, and I really like this approach.

A+, 5-Stars.

Highlights:
-One of the best balances between romance and plot in the series, I think.
-As always, the protagonists fit together just perfectly. This is a special gift that this author has.
-The writing is just plain perfect.
-Yay for highlighting mental health struggles in an incredibly realistic way.
-“Affectionate vengeance”. Love it
-The cat
-Powdered sugar
- Spicyyyyyyy

Thank you to the author for providing me with a free ARC. This honest review was left voluntarily.

3.5⭐️ Rounded Up

Another solid book in this series, but I will say I still preferred Natalya’s story a bit more.

I found this storyline a bit more boring than Kiss of Seduction, but I really liked Angela’s character. Rawnie Sabor knows how to write a character, that’s for sure.

It was nice being able to skip over some of the books and still be able to read another book in the series since they can be read as a standalone. The author did a really good job of bringing in characters from the other books while not giving any of their story away too but, but I still would say it would bee important to read Kiss of Seduction before going into others, but still not necessary.

I can’t really explain why I only rated it a 3.5 other than it felt like it needed a bit more, of what? I’m not sure, but for it being over 500 pages I wish I had gotten a bit more action. Things just felt a bit more surface level than the other book I read in the series.

Being introduced to another character tells me there will be another book added to this series, and I will definitely be reading Maya’s story because I was immediately interested in her.

Vex was badass, I will say. Her growth was *chefs kiss*, and I do really like her and Angela together. The sex scenes made me a bit uncomfortable but I think that just boils down to a personal preference and the sex scenes were a bit too intense for me.

Overall a great read and will have me continuing the series as long as more books are added!

I love these audiobooks so flipping much.

The name calling in the kink turns me off, but otherwise I’m all about this one! At 21 hours, it’s the equivalent of two books.

When I listened it was on Hoopla and not yet an available on Audible. I’ll be buying it when it is released there.

Highly recommend this series if you’re into erotic paranormal fantasies!

Once again, Rawnie Sabor shows her absolutely mindblowing talent on every page. Goddess knows she understands the BDSM world deeply, and I learned a lot in this one. That said, the specific kink explored in Green-Eyed Monster isn’t quite my personal cup of tea. Even so, I found it fascinating to read and listen to, largely because of how thoughtfully Sabor approached it and how expertly Allie Shae brought it to life.

Despite that mismatch, there was still so much that resonated with me. That’s why I adore her books so deeply. She has an uncanny ability to reach into places that feel tender and familiar.

While Kiss of Seduction and A Little Sin were full, no-notes, five-star reads for me, books I never wanted to end, this one did feel like it dragged a little in places. Still brilliant, just not quite my favourite of the series.

All that said: I’m absolutely diving into the short stories next… and I can’t wait for Sun-Kissed Fangs!

Angela is the witch of the Chains. She's held in high esteem by the Regents and personally responsible for one of the more unique elements of the Court: the Claiming amulets. Her current project is a secret from all but the Regents, and it's inspired suspicion from one of the Court of Chain's newest recruits, the greater fiend of Envy, Vex.

Vex is young in the world for a greater fiend, and convinced that her own nature is evil and irredeemable. She's convinced that all of humanity around her mirrors her nature and particularly the supposedly kind-hearted Angela. Convinced that Angela is hiding a secret lust for power, Vex sets out to prove it and eventually kill the powerful witch before she damages all of the Court that has taken Vex in.

This series is brilliant, and gets better as it goes along. Angela is a brilliantly drawn character who's confident and driven to a fault, and it's wonderful to see the way her strength of character brings out Vex and her real nature.

There's also plenty of new characters introduced that promise more in this series. Now I'm off to read the hetero romances in this series.

We are already familiar with Vex and Angela from the previous books, so no further introductions are necessary. Vex pledges herself to the Court of Chains, striving to gain control over her existence. Like Natalya and Drago before her, she wants to be more than just the embodiment of her sin. Vex is manipulative, infuriating, and overall—not a nice person. Angela, on the other hand, is a workaholic with a massive confidence problem. Because the witch is protected by numerous charms, Vex struggles to get a clear read on her wants and needs. So begins a journey of obsession, personal growth, and an inevitable clash of feelings.

The Green-Eyed Monster can be a bit exhausting to read at times. The relentless bickering between Angela and Vex is far from the typical enemies-to-lovers romance trope. Yet, Rawnie Sabor writes a exciting story filled with action, violence, heart-wrenching romance, and plenty of spice.

The spicy scenes are intense and cater to a particular kink. Fans of Sabor will get exactly what they expect. The action sequences, though violent, are brief and well-placed—they don’t distract from Vex and Angela’s journey but rather enhance the emotional weight of their struggles. These moments good dramatic turning points and add further layers to the characters. The plot stands well on its own while setting up for side characters to step into the spotlight in future sequels.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Green-Eyed Monster and look forward to more stories from the Court of Chains. Sabor seamlessly blends action, romance, and spice, demonstrating a rare ability to explore kink territory with the utmost respect.

I’m a fan of this series and have kept up with all the entries (even the hetero ones). In Wrath & Patience we got a proper introduction to Angela (witch) and another glimpse of Vex (Envy fiend). The pairing and banter of these two was great as well as their kink exploration. I’m not a huge fan of the kink explored in this entry but here it felt real and fleshed out and not forced. Honestly what you want when exploring anything BDSM. Also, there was a proper villain here and not just some flailing idiot making bad decisions. We had a fanatic, a believer and those are the most dangerous villains of all. Hoping to see more Vex and Angela in future stories.

“I’m close. Just… I’m close.”
“You think I don’t know that? There’s nothing I’m more familiar with than the moment right before you get what you want. I live in that moment.”

REREAD 2025. 4.5 stars. As always, a delight! I knew as soon as the audiobook came out for this, I would want to read it, and I truly couldn't resist. While Vex and Angela aren't my favourite couple in the Court of Chains series, (hate to love is seldom my thing) this romance stole my heart and made it ache. I loved them so much. There's something so precious and satisfying about seeing people who are usually really prickly and standoffish and mean (in Vex's case) become vulnerable and soft for each other. The moments where Angela lets herself go, when she asks for comfort and receives it... UGH so good. I had my usual nitpicks about the writing (and indeed, a couple things bothered me even more than last time) but not enough to drastically change my feelings about this amazing book.

Listened to the audiobook as read by Allie Shae; perfect as always. She's the best voice for this series, and her rendition of these characters was perfect. I perhaps didn't imagine Vex as quite that snarky, but it fit. Wonderful as always; I know I'll be rereading this in the future.

--

“You don’t scare me, Vex.”
“Don’t I?” Vex let out a low chuckle. “Lie to me again, angel. I liked it.”

4.5 stars. This is my least favourite Court of Chains story so far, and by the rating, you can probably tell that that just means I like it a teensy bit less than the others. And really, it's only a teensy bit. Rawnie Sabor just knows how to write a really captivating story, one that I cannot tear myself away from. As soon as I started this, it was hard to do anything other than read it.

This is a hate to love romance between Vex, a greater envy demon, and Angela, a talented witch working for the Court of Chains. I was fascinated with Vex from the moment we met her in Kiss of Seduction, and I was itching to get her romance, particularly just to see how Sabor would write someone with her particular sin falling in love. I haven't read the book where Angela was first introduced (I do think I will go back and read it at some point) but I fell in love with her right away anyway. I really enjoyed their dynamic, which was such a relief. Hate to love isn't really my favourite trope. Although, I guess this is more enemies to lovers, perhaps? Though they are on the same side, they definitely don't trust each other. But yeah, I find that sometimes if the hatred is too OTT, it can stop me from forming any kind of genuine attachment to the romance and to the characters, and make it harder for me to root for them later down the line. That wasn't a problem here. Vex and Angela bicker and snipe at each other and go for each other's throats (figuratively and literally) and while it's clear that there is genuine disdain and hatred and distrust there, there's also, from the very beginning, a level of fascination on both sides. They're both so eager to really know more about the other woman, and see what makes her tick, and that's what drew me in from the beginning.

The relationship and the kinks are perhaps a little darker in this book, as compared to the others that I've read in this series, but the author made it work for a few really great ways. Angela is so put together, so confident and calm, and as a witch, she has a measure of control over herself and what she allows to be done to her and to touch her. So when she gives up that control, we know it's very deliberate, and she's doing it because she wants what is about to come. I love the way that Vex chips away at her little mask, and gets Angela to peel back her layers and admit to something that she's never admitted to before. Every sex scene was so electric, and every time I felt like it might have been going to a place that I wouldn't be into, the author still managed to turn it around and make me like it. (I'm thinking specifically of the scene in the Second Circle.) Angela is just a collection of characteristics and tropes that I dearly love, and I adored how she was built up and broken down and built up again. As much as I was always fascinated by Vex, I thought I might have a harder time liking her character? But I needn't have worried. She is genuinely acerbic and mean, but when she cares, she cares deeply. I love the way her sin manifested in her relationship with Angela, and the ways that she was able to overcome that overwhelming envy and bottomless desire, and find something genuine with Angela. I have to admit that they softened towards each other on an emotional front a bit sooner than I was expecting. But I genuinely can't complain about it, because I LOVED the trajectory of the relationship. Especially seeing Vax struggle with having emotions.

“You have no idea how fun this is for me. I’m strengthened by Envy. By people craving the possessions of others. You’re one of the most brilliant, talented, treasured people in the whole Court. Everyone who’s laid eyes on you tonight is painfully envious that you’re my willing plaything and not theirs.”

I really enjoyed the plot of this one and where the events that happen take the world. Mostly we're dealing with Angela's work on a new project that will mean greater freedoms for all fiends, and an enemy faction that doesn't want her to succeed. There's a lot of great action, some hurt/comfort that I LOVED for how in-depth it was, and how the author showed the characters going through something traumatising and having it really affect them. The last few chapters were so good and so emotional. I didn't expect certain things to make me cry, but oh my God, they did. It's probably because I just really love these characters at this world, but I felt so invested. There were lots of great side characters that I fell for: the cute, super supportive parents; a troubled teen who our main characters get close to; MAYA. I fell so hard for Maya, and I'm delighted that hers will be the next book.

As always, I did have a few little nit-picks with the writing. There are a few words that were used a bit too much. Especially the word 'provoking', and that really kept scratching at my brain, because it was being used in contexts where it didn't really fit. Lots of little moments of awkward phrasing that kind of made me tilt my head. I will never be able to turn off that part of my brain while reading, but it didn't take away from the reading experience too much. Just makes me wish it could have had another edit.

But nevertheless, I loved it. Loved the dynamic, loved the characters, loved how they impacted each other and changed for one another. I knew I probably wouldn't love it as much as I love the other books, and while I indeed didn't, it still had such a great emotional hook that made me so happy in the end Also there was a lot of Natalya in this book. So that made me happy. I will definitely be rereading this, whenever the audiobook comes out, and I'm already looking forward to it.

I always love a Rawnie Sabor book and this one is no exception. It's a 4.5 ⭐ and 🔥 (not 5 in both categories for a personal reason, unlike the other books in the series, the affection between the two protagonists is only noticeable at the end).
It's a:
- Emenis between lovers
- Forced proximity
- Touch her and die
- Attraction at first sight
- BDSM
- Paranormal
- Dark Romance
type of book with a touch of:
- Who did this to you?
- Demon x Witch
- Possessive and morally grey character
- Dirty words and hate fucking.
So if that's what you're looking for, this book is perfect for you.

I was incredibly fortunate to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review and let me tell you it does not disappoint.

If you’ve previously enjoyed the chains series then you are guaranteed to love this one. It’s just as dark and even more kinky (somehow that’s possible).

Vex and Angela are such endearing characters and they really shine in this book. I loved Vex from first meeting her in Kiss of Seduction so to be able to spend a whole book with her and her thoughts was fantastic.

There are also some fantastic side characters to fall in love with in this book too and I am hoping they will re-appear again and get their own book(s) soon.

I’m trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, so all I will say is read it. Read all three. Then in a few months come back and read them all again because they will hit exactly the same. They’re just that good.

Thank you so much for the ARC and the opportunity to read this in advance. It has made an excellent start to my pride month! (although now I feel like it should be Envy month).

I got this book as an Arc and I am so happy I got to read it sooner!

Vex, the fiend of Envy, and witch Angela are great characters who develop at their own pace throughout the book. Nothing about their story feels rushed, forced, or insincere. There is the right amount of action (of both kinds 😉) that nothing feels overdone, the spice is just right.

While I did hope for a little bit more on the action side of things, in terms of fights. I honestly got more involved with her project and wanted to wave pompoms of encouragement for its completion.

I recommend the series if you haven't tried it yet as it has become one of my favorites and I look forward to more from this author.

I hate when a book is so good that I eat it up in a day, because then I just be feeling greedy for more😔.

This was such a fun read that had a great amount of plot, romance, emotional factors that had me feeling misty (could be pms though) and steaminess. I really loved the dynamics of our characters, including the parents— even though I wish we got to see the reveal of things talk— and am left reeling for more of Eden!

Let’s be clear: I am Rawnie Sabor’s biggest fan. I love everything she’s written and I highly recommend every single book (check the CWs).

The tension. The chemistry. The banter. This book is everything!

I’ve adored Vex and Angela since I met them in Kiss of Seduction and Gifts of Gold and I couldn’t wait to see how this story would play out. I’ll admit, after reading Wrath and Patience, I had no idea how Rawnie was going to be able to pull off a romance between an angry demon who abhors witches and the most powerful witch in existence. All I knew was Rawnie could find a way to do it and, damn, did she ever!

This story was so brilliantly executed. The world building is fantastic. The writing is immersive. There’s so many familiar faces I love spending extra time with (especially Natalya). And I truly loved the character development and growth Angela and Vex both had.

And can we talk about the spice? 🥵 Got damn. It’s so hot! Hate sex? Degradation? Exhibitionism? Wow. You’ll want to read this for the spice alone.

Come for the spice but stay for the plot. Every court of chains book has a thrilling plot with life or death stakes that is always there but not overshadowing of the romance.

While this book can be read as a standalone, I truly recommend reading the earlier books (because I love them all so much). You don’t have to, but I don’t think you’ll regret it if you did! 💚

the green eyed monster by rawnie sabor
there are books. and then there are BOOKS. and then there is the green eyed monster, which is not a book at all actually!! it’s a full spiritual event. JS A FUCKING awakening.!! a sapphic war crime. i feeeel like rawnie sabor didn’t write this she cast a spell on me dropkicked my emotions then kissed my forehead, and left me sobbing in my bed!!! this book didn’t end. it erupted. like emotional fireworks and chains and lipstick-stained chaos. i am not the same girl who started this arc. i’ve been restructured on a SPECIFIC level. vex and angela live inside my walls now. they’ve taken over my soul. i’m just a girl possessed by lesbians please respect my privacy at this time 😭😭
ANGELA. sweet angel (i'd die for this nickname like kill me if you call me that i'll gihe you my soul) with her messy bun and freckles under her makeup and deep, HER PREPPY STYLE????? sharp little spirals of self-worth and softness?? she’s so touchable in a way that made me feel like i could reach into the page and hold her. scream at her. kiss her forehead. run her a bath. whatever she needs. THE TOUCH HER AND DIE IN THIS WAS JS *CHEFS KISS* IT WAS THE GREAAAATEST I'VE READ!!!!!! AAAAAND her going from “i’ll kill her” to “i’ll kill anyone who touches the witch of chains”????? i SCREAMED. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?? MORE LIKE CHARACTER DEVASTATION I’M NOT OKAY. SEND HELP!!! the sexual tension in this book?? the yearning??? the “i want someone sweet” turned “oops i got someone who rearranged my spine and my soul” energy???? THE SCENES?? THE LINES????
“you wanna ruin me? by all means, give it your best shot.”
^ she did. and she liked it. AND I LIKED IT TOO!!!! WE ALLLLL LOVED THIS!!

4.5/5

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review and I'd like to thank the author and everyone involved for giving me the opportunity. I'm a huge fan of this series and just getting to read it a little early had me kicking my feet in excitement!

Without further ado: the book was amazing! My biggest complaint is honestly that there wasn't more of it. I'd have loved a little more aftercare at the end, a little more fluff after the climax, but much like Vex I feel like I'd always want more no matter what.

I love the narratives that Sabor weaves. Each book I've read so far explores queer themes carefully disguised as supernatural ones. They also each explore different types of kink(s) and Green Eyed Monster continues that trend.

Without giving too much away, I think it bears mentioning that the kinks involved in this book revolve a lot around consensual humiliation and degradation. If you aren't comfortable with words like "slut" and "whore", then this should serve as a warning to prepare yourself or to avoid.

Both Vex and Angela are interesting characters written well with their own distinct personalities. Both of them have clear flaws they must navigate and overcome throughout the story. Also, Vex is fucking hot, lets be real. Her powers are unique and interesting and fitting of an Envy fiend in a way I wouldn't have thought of had I not read earlier books in the series.

If you enjoy fantasy/supernatural stories as well as some hot, steamy, kinky spice.. I mean, what are you doing? Stop reading this and grab this book. I have very few complaints (and they are very small) and have listed them below as an honest critique.

CONS:

The climax/plot was a little predictable and in many ways mirrored the ending of Kiss of Seduction. I personally don't mind a little predictability when the meaty parts of the story are based around character development, but if you're looking for surprise and suspense it will be a little sparse here.

I also wish Evie had some lines? She is mentioned a few times as being around (and Natalya plays a significant role) but Evie herself is voiceless in this book and, as one of my favorite characters, it made me sad.

Alternatively, while it makes sense because witches, I could have done with less Sam? I haven't read her book (partly because hetero romances don't interest me much, but mostly because (like Natalya) I am clinging to my grudge from what she did in a previous book!). I may have to bite the bullet and read it anyway because I am super interested in Maya and it seems she is introduced in Wrath and Patience. Hopefully Maya gets her own story and love interest because she seems super sweet and is in dire need of a hug.

Lastly, without revealing too much, there is a point in this where

TLDR; Books amazing! You should read! I'd let Vex do sick and terrible things to me, too.

Thank you Rawnie for the ARC!

As usual, Rawnie Sabor has a knack for story telling and character building. This was a nicely sized book and overall I feel like the pacing was nice and fluid. Angela and our little green monster, Vex, work so well together.

Vex, for most of the book was so infuriatingly antagonistic and mean spirited, but I get why. We definitely got some of her history in Kiss of Seduction and it was really nice to learn more about her as a fiend in her own book. Later on

Angela is so fun and smart and sweet and freaky and I loved her. I liked getting inside her head as she opened up about the things she was learning about herself as a human and things she liked sexually. She was constantly growing in the book.

There's a great cast of side characters and I LOVED getting to see more Natalya and Evie in GEM. There are a lot of familiar faces and quite a few new ones too! The magic component was really interesting and I like that it wasn't over complicated either. It was handled in an almost scientific way, which was really neat to see.

Anther refreshing take, "main conflict" or contention point happened early in the book as opposed to later in the book which is usually the norm.

Sex stuff:
One thing that really spoke to me on a personal level, and I even DM'd with Rawnie about this when I read it, was something to do with Angela's sexual experiences - not the humiliation kink but how her body operates. This is the first sapphic book I have personally read where the woman could not orgasm without clitoral stimulation. I appreciated knowing that she could take a lot (sexually) internally and not get off unless it was external. It was great to "hear" Angela's internal monologue about it and I haven’t been represented in a book that way before GEM and it was awesome to read.

If you like any of the Court of Chains books definitely give Green-Eyed Monster a read. You won't be disappointed.

This book had me in an absolute chokehold from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down. Rawnie Sabor delivers again where every sentence oozes intention, and you can feel how much care she puts into her characters, world, and emotional layering. This is my fourth book and I can’t get enough!

The psychological manipulation, possessiveness, and spiraling obsession weren’t just plot devices they were the heartbeat of the story. Messy, charged, and unhinged, but never hollow. Every twist felt intentional, every power shift earned. These characters aren’t just toxic they’re magnetic, and you can’t look away.

The smut 🤭 it’s intense and deeply tied to the characters’ emotional arcs. There’s a raw edge to it that mirrors the characters’ instability and desire. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ for both frequency and impact. If you like your spice wrapped in obsession and power plays, this book delivers hard. The Green-Eyed Monster will wreck you in the best way possible.

Now, I ARC read this last year. I fell for Angela and Vex almost as hard as Reyna and Violet. And the audiobooks just cemented it.

Allie Shae, again, is a magician. She captures both Angela and Vex so perfectly, it's like Rawnie writes the Court of Chains just for her to narrate. The emotion and depth Allie puts into every character just gives the story so much more richness.

My second favorite of the series.

I am honestly disappointed. I didn't like this book in the series. It started out promising and I liked the new enemies to lovers dynamic that made it very different from the previous sapphic pairings. But it quickly went downhill from there. Angela in particular didn't work for me. At the start of the book, I liked how Angela was a powerful character who was not to be messed with and her emotional unavailability sounded interesting. Her witch powers were really cool and I would have liked more exploration around that world. But the book really lost me after

I also didn't like how quickly their enemies to lovers dynamic shifted into a pretty sappy love story. It felt very abrupt. And I wasn't the biggest fan of Vex. She also felt pretty one dimensional and I was annoyed with the constant references to her smirking/grinning. I think I would have preferred if the book only had one POV. It would have made the romance a bit more exciting if I didn't know the feelings of one of the main characters. And it would have built the tension and angst into their relationship.

And I was really intrigued with the bad guys but after they were introduced, they were basically off page until 80% into the book, then they were defeated way too quickly. It was pretty lacklustre and anticlimactic.

I received an advanced reader copy of Green-Eyed Monster from the author in exchange for an honest review.

‘Is it still capturing lightning in a bottle if it’s been done three times?’ That’s a question I kept coming back to as I was reading Rawnie Sabor’s latest book, Green-Eyed Monster. Another sapphic entrant in her Court of Chains series, this book presents a dark and spicy contemporary fantasy romance between Angela, the workaholic Witch of the Chains – a prize no one can possess, and Vex, a greater envy fiend who covets that which is untouchable.

Green-Eyed Monster can be read as standalone, and Sabor provides a helpful guide to her world at the beginning of the book.

The previous two sapphic Court of Chains books, Kiss of Seduction and A Little Sin, are two of my favourite romance books full stop. Both follow a formula: girl with problems x supernatural being (read: demon) who can fix her, who is also fucked up in her own way. It works. She knows it. Sabor has previously delivered two enrapturing, character-driven stories in a world that feels alive, thoughtfully developed, and unique. She’s also proven herself as a writer of some of the best sex and kink scenes out there.

Green-Eyed Monster is no different.

At the start, there were definitely some romance tropes that didn’t feel terribly subtle: the grouchy workaholic that needs to relax alongside huge helpings of enemies to lovers being the two most obvious. But one of the first things that really struck me about Green-Eyed Monster was how much fun Sabor was having. It’s clear she loves this setting, these characters, and telling these stories. The delight and joy she brings just bleeds off the page.

There’s something special about a book that just radiates fun. Pure unadulterated, devious, indulgent, fucked up fun.

Speaking of fun, the dynamic between the books main characters was absolutely delightful. Angela and Vex start the book hating each other. Angela’s status in the court as a witch, and her ability to withhold her deepest darkest desires from Vex’s feindish powers make her the ultimate prize for the demon. Their bickering and taunting was thoroughly enjoyable, as was the growth into their relationship. A highlight of the book for me was the moment when Angela begrudgingly realised she had a crush on Vex.

Another highlight for this book is the sex. Surprise surprise, our overachieving workaholic needs someone to degrade and ruin her to have fun. This feels like the most explicitly kinky of the three books so far, and it is handled brilliantly. Where lesser series would forget safe kink practices for the narrative’s, Green-Eyed Monster reminds us that establishing safe words is hot and that consent is so fucking sexy.

Sabor also has a talent for laying deep emotional groundwork as a fundamental part of her smut, meaning you don’t just think ‘ooh, this is hot,’ but you think ‘ooh, this is hot’ and you start giggling or crying or whatever the context calls for.

That being the case, sometimes the context calls for writing something that is just hot as fuck. Which, yeah, Green-Eyed Monster has that, too. There’s a beautiful moment early on when Vex realises that degrading Angela would get under her skin, and then delights in doing so. The combination of Angela being treated like Vex’s plaything, and Vex’s possessiveness is intoxicating.

What surprised me though, is that the peak of this dynamic – when Vex absolutely ruins Angela in public in the Court of Chains’ sex and BDSM club – is not the pinnacle of the sex in this book. Rawnie follows this scene with sex that is less kink-centric but more rooted in the character’s emotions, but is somehow still just as hot.

Green-Eyed Monster is not just smut. The book also has some tear-jerking moments, and a compelling, albeit rather simplistic plot. After Sabor establishes Angela and Vex’s relationship dynamic, the witch is targeted by inquisitors. As Angela is essentially a free agent as a member of the Court of Chains, and not affiliated with a coven, she is hunted down for execution. This plot exists to serve the development of Angela and Vex’s relationship, and does it brilliantly.

Green-Eyed Monster was a deeply enjoyable book. I called it ‘soul food for a particular kind of fucked up lesbian’ to one of my friends as I was reading it. It has everything you’d want from an excellent cast, to a delightful plot, to insanely hot sex. This is somehow the most fucked up but also the most domestic of the sapphic Court of Chains books, and I am so fucking here for it.
