This book never slows down! Absolutely perfect pacing, nonstop tension, and twists that kept me hooked from start to finish. Every chapter hits. The character development was incredible, especially through the dual POV. Stark absolutely stole the show: brooding, morally grey, and unforgettable. Meryn’s growth and her bond with Anassa were amazing to watch. With battles, political intrigue, spice, and sharp banter, there was never a dull moment. I’ll definitely be rereading while impatiently waiting for book three after that ending. Huge thanks to Sable Sorensen… but that ending hurt.
The ONLY reason I gave it 4.5 (rounded up) stars was because I felt the ending was lacking. I think this book honestly could have had another 100 pages 😅😅 it felt a little rushed. But alas it was still incredible. I loved it and I cannot WAIT for the next one!!!!!
Let me start by saying if you haven’t read Direbound you need to do yourselves a favour and pick it up you need to experience this amazing series.
I finished Dire Bound last year and I really loved it, I really didn’t think the series could get any better, but I was so wrong! I loved the academic setting, the direwolves, deadly trials and let’s not forget the plot twists which all left me wanting more.
Roll on 2026 and not only did I get the street team invite but I also got the absolutely pleasure (that I’ll never take for granted) of reading Furybound as an ARC, and it’s completely blown me away. I didn’t think I could love this series anymore than I already did, but I was so wrong, saying I adored it feels like such an understatement. This series has my soul.
This book just doesn’t stop from page 1 all the way through till the end, the pacing is perfection, the tension never lets up, and don’t get me started on the twists and turns all of which had me experiencing pretty much every emotion possible. This book is relentless in a good way each chapter just hits.
The character development was perfection I loved the new characters some more than others😉, but they added so much richness to the story.
I loved the dual POV and seeing this story unfold from Starks POV added so much depth to the story. Don’t get me started on STARK himself he is just phenomenal in this story, I like a brooding morally grey man but in this book we get even more and if I wasn’t married he would well and truly have spoilt real life men for me😂.
Meryn's growth was amazing to witness as she navigates the changes with the kingdom, palace, her evolving power, friendships and loyalties. I also adored watching the bond between Meryn and Anassa? It’s truly amazing.
Plot wise it just never lets up, there is never a dull moment, we have battles, political scheming, spice 🔥and delicious banter that just works seamlessly and certainly had me screaming and squealing like a kid in a sweet shop. There is a perfect balance of emotion and tension which kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat the whole time.
I can most definitely see a reread in my future which I will definitely be doing immersive, especially as I now have to wait over a year for book 3. Not sure I can cope, after that ending.
Thank you to sable Sorensen for giving me this amazing opportunity. I adore you but that ending, really??? 😂.
Devoured this book- literally couldn’t put it down. Sometimes book 2 is a small let down after an amazing book 1, Fury bound is not that book- this book exceeded my expectations. I lover the dual POV. I loved the pacing- this book does not let up and it was amazing. I cannot wait for book 3.
I absolutely ADORED Direbound. This one wasn’t bad at all, but it definitely did not keep my attention in the same way, and I’m not even sure why. I struggled to keep reading it.
A FANTASTIC SEQUEL!!! Everything I was looking for and more. The plot, setting and magic system expansion was amazing for the second book in the trilogy, the travel across new areas, discovering new facets of the magic system and the SPICE 🌶️.
Daddy Stark is on the TOP book boyfriend list just like we thought he would be. The tropes in this book were more common but so well done I ate it up.
I cannot wait to see the finale of this series- this will absolutely be a re-read!
I was so honored and excited to receive this ARC! Direbound was such a hit and I could not wait to see where the story progressed. While the first has been compared to fourth wing and hunger games, the second book cements this series in an identity all its own. Dare I say this one is even better than the first. Meryn’s stepping into power is a journey that the authors make actually sound relatable. The tension between her and Stark is *chefs kiss* and the spice is spicy. The plot twists and deaths were absolutely crucial to the story and character development, even if they broke my heart. I cannot wait to see what Ruinbound has in store for us and based on the ending of Furybound, it is nothing that I was expecting! Bravo! 5 Stars!
Furybound picks up right up from where we left off and throws you straight in at the deep end.
The pacing in this book was *chefs kiss* and I loved every single second. The expansion of the world, the magic and the lore was perfection; it meant the plot and the stakes continued to build from Direbound. Dare I say it even exceed book 1?!
Meryn’s character development in this book was great to read and she’s swiftly becoming one of my favourite FMC’s! She’s stepping into her power and having to decide what cost she’s willing to pay to be a great ruler.
Also let’s not forget the dual POV with Stark which was such a great decision. The tension between them is 🔥
And that ending?! Come on! Impatiently waiting for book 3.
*arc read - thank you so much to Penguin and Wayward!!*
What a sequel. I mean this book was brutal and it felt like it was toying with all my emotions but I devoured it. It did not take me long to read despite the thickness!
I don't want to spoil anything but it felt epic overall with such strong politics throughout the book, the growing but troubled romance and a villain that is so so so easy to hate. The spice landed at just the right times 🌶️ as not to interfere with the intense fantasy plot.
Obviously I have to mention the direwolves. I love that they are in themselves a character and do stand entirely on their own with their own journeys.
Thank you for the honor of reading this early! 🐺 ❤️
First of all I would like to thank Sable Sorensen and Penguin Random House for allowing me to be part of the ARC team for Fury Bound, it was a privilege to be able to give my review.
The first thing I have to say is that I had to sit for a while and digest all that I read to be able to put my thoughts down for this review. Fury Bound completely blew me away. After loving Direbound last year, I went into this sequel with high expectations—and a little bit of worry. Sequels don’t always live up to the magic of the first book… but this one didn’t just meet my expectations, it blew them away.
Fury Bound starts off exactly where Direbound left off with Meryn and Stark recovering from the events of graduation night and Prince Killian in the wind.
From the very first page, the writing pulled me in and refused to let go. What truly sets this book apart is Sable Sorensen’s incredible writing skill. The prose is immersive and beautifully crafted, striking that perfect balance between lyrical and fast-paced. Every scene feels vivid and purposeful, with descriptions that pull you straight into the world without ever slowing the momentum. The tension is masterfully handled—you can feel it building with every chapter, making it impossible to put down.
The quest itself is exquisitely written, full of rich detail and emotional weight that keeps you completely invested. Sorensen has a real talent for weaving action with emotion, so you’re not just watching events unfold—you’re feeling every victory, every loss, and every moment of uncertainty alongside the characters.
Fury Bound makes you feel the full spectrum of emotions-love, hate, sorrow, devastation, anger, frustration, anticipation and hope. The banter was particularly brilliant especially between Venna and a certain King which gives us moments of laughter allowing our hearts time to slow and prepare for the next emotional battle to be read.
And that ending… wow. It absolutely hooks you in and leaves you desperate for book three. That’s all I can say about that.
If you loved Direbound, prepare yourself—Fury Bound takes everything to the next level.
Furybound (Book 2, Wolves of Ruin) - Sable Sorensen
I was so incredibly lucky and excited to be a part of the ARC team for this book.
Sable Sorensen writes dark fantasy romance, and this book is their debut novel. Sable Sorensen is a pen name for two friends who decided to write fantasy books together with strong heroines and spicy romances.
Meryn Cooper is now Queen of the Direwolves so all should be well. But the war is far from over for Meryn.
Killian, through the engagement bracelet, is trying to control Meryn and her powers. Because as it turns out the bracelet is infused with the dark blood magic of siphons; as it happens Killian is a siphon, or more accurately a vessel for the deadliest and evil siphon that there ever was.
Yet Meryn is also trying to keep her people, her kingdom together, but it is slowly collapsing before her very eyes. The people either refuse to believe the truth she has unveiled about the rule of Killian and his father or choose to ignore it entirely.
Saela, Meryn’s younger sister, is also a concern for Meryn. Saela was turned into a siphon and hire sire is none other than Killian himself.
With a war looming, this unwanted bond with Killian and sheer desperation to find a cure for Saela, Mervyn definitely has her hands full this time. But who can Meryn trust, Stark the Alpha? Time will tell if she can trust him or if her confusing thoughts on feelings on him will muddy the waters.
“Furybound” is the sequel I have been so excited to read and get my hands on and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Action, mystery, intrigue, villain, and the character in the story trying to do what is right despite the odds stacked against them. Though the story was not as compelling as Direbound for me, I still found it to be a compulsive read. It was wonderful to read the growing relationship between Stark and Meryn. The overall plot and some good twists in it that I did not predict and just made it all the more tantalising. I am not sure where the author will take Meryn in the next book and if she and Stark can survive, what is to come next.
This was an absolutely incredible follow-up to Dire Bound and honestly one of the most emotionally intense reading experiences I’ve had in a while.
The story is dark, adventurous, emotional, fast-paced, and packed with twists that kept me completely hooked from beginning to end. There were genuinely no dull moments — every chapter felt like chaos in the best way possible. By the halfway point I had laughed out loud, cried actual tears, squealed, swooned, and fully stressed myself out over these characters.
Meryn continues to be one of my favorite kinds of FMCs because she feels so real. She’s flawed, emotional, messy, and a little unhinged at times, but considering everything she’s been thrown into, it makes perfect sense. Watching her navigate everything happening around her made me even more attached to her journey.
The new characters added so much to the story and made the world feel even bigger and more dangerous. The emotional tension, the action, the relationships, and especially the spice were all incredibly well done — and that ending? Absolutely chef’s kiss.
If I had one hope moving forward in the series, it’s that Stark gets even more development in the next book because I feel like there’s still so much potential there as a character. I’d also love just a little more breathing room for deeper world building and character moments because I’m so invested in this cast that I never want to leave them.
But honestly? Those things didn’t lessen my enjoyment of this book at all. This was still a full 5-star read for me because of how completely immersed and emotionally invested I was the entire time. These books are such wild emotional rides, and I already cannot wait for the next one.
Furybound has absolutely zero chill about this series 🐺⚔️
Right. I need you to understand something. Direbound set the bar. High. Uncomfortably high. And Furybound did not trip over it, did not stumble, did not politely meet it, it CLEARED it and kept running and didn’t even look back.
This book picks up exactly where Direbound leaves off and it does not let you breathe. Not even a little. The action does not let up, the stakes do not let up, and my heart rate did not let up. I was feral from approximately chapter two onwards and I stayed feral.
What I love about this series is that it’s not just dark romance wrapped in a fantasy setting, it actually has THINGS TO SAY. Revenge. Power. The consequences of power. Meryn inheriting a crown and a war and having to figure out what she’s willing to become to survive it. That is GOOD storytelling. That is the kind of fantasy romance that justifies the five star rating without me having to apologise for it.
And Stark Therion. The dark dangerous Alpha who she thought hated her. His loyalty in this book absolutely wrecked me. The dynamic between them continues to build in all the right ways and I was not emotionally prepared for some of the moments between them. Rude. Completely rude.
The duet audiobook format suits this series perfectly, if you haven’t tried it on audio yet please go immediately, the production adds something special to an already special story.
Everything Direbound built on, Furybound expands. The world, the politics, the bonds, the consequences. This is a series that knows exactly what it’s doing and I am fully along for the ride.
Five stars. No notes. Sable Sorenson please write faster.
🖤 Action that doesn’t let up? ✅ 💀 Consequences of power that actually land? ✅ 🐺 Stark Therion doing things to my emotional stability? Unfortunately, also ✅
Wow, just wow. The book picks up exactly where we left off at the end of Direbound, and from start to finish, this book kept me hooked the whole time. - To start, seeing the relationship between Meyrn and Stark grow and evolve from him just being her protector to so much more was everything I could’ve wanted and more!! - Meryl slowly starts to accept her place as queen and really step into her power, and the whole thing with her and Stark sharing a mind and power was so cool, I can’t wait to see more of it, not to mention during certain spicy scenes, then sharing a mind was hot 🥵. - ALSO HER DAD IS ALIVE!!! AND A SIPHON. Definitely did not see that coming, but makes me so happy for Saela as she can finally get to know her dad - Izzy’s death absolutely ruined me. I had to reread the scene like 5 times to make sure I read it right, and not to mention VENNA TURNING INTO A SIPHON AT THE END. ugh, these poor sisters just went through it in this book. - And finally THAT ENDING!!! Nocturn can just possess Stark!!! AND NOW HE'S RELEASED BACK INTO THE WORLD?? Not to mention Stark's family isn’t sworn to Meryn but to Nocturn!!! There is so much more I could say, but overall this book went way over my expectations, and i can’t wait for what awaits book 3.

Buckle up—because this one doesn’t ease you in, it throws you straight back into the fire.
Furybound is amazing. Truly. This is the kind of sequel that doesn’t just “continue the story,” but elevates it. From the very first page, it picks up exactly where Direbound left us—no recap or gentle reentry—just immediate immersion and devastation that refuses to let go.
What makes this book so jaw-dropping isn’t just the intensity. It’s the depth. The world-building expands, layering new history, magic, and stakes without ever losing clarity.
And the tension—especially between Stark and Meryn—is absolutely electric. Every moment between them feels like it could either combust or completely unravel everything.
There’s also the introduction of a new, mysterious male character who adds an entirely different layer of intrigue. His presence shifts the dynamic in a way that keeps you constantly guessing, questioning alliances, and bracing for impact.
And that ending? Brutal. Perfect. The kind of cliffhanger that leaves you staring at the last page in disbelief, already desperate for what comes next.
Furybound isn’t just a sequel—it’s a power move. Darker, richer, and more emotionally charged, it takes everything that made Direbound compelling and turns it into something unforgettable.
I felt like I waited an eternity for this book and it was worth the wait. This sequel really extended the plot and magic systems for us. It was heavily political and plot driven so I feel like we lost some of the character depth but still thoroughly enjoyed to the story.
We have a new character who I really enjoyed getting to know. They fit well within the story. Also having Starks POV was exactly what we needed in. I really enjoyed being in his head throughout the story. I love the banter between the wolves and the bonded. I found myself laughing multiple times at the back and forth.
There was loss, there was victories all making this a solid read. The plot twist at the end, I didn’t have that on my radar at all. It definitely sets the tone for book 3. I cannot wait for you guys to get this book in your hands! I am ready to have my signed physical copy on my hands 🐺
Thank you @sablesorensen And Netgalley for the opportunity to early read this book
Honestly after Dire Bound I didn’t think a book could get any better but boy I was wrong.
I don’t know what these amazing writers put into these books but it’s phenomenal.
I read Dire Bound before it was picked up by traditional publishing and I’ve been desperate to get my hands on Fury Bound ever since.
This book literally has it all. My head felt like it was being thrown around with all everything that was being thrown at us in this book. Honestly I couldn’t put it down. There was so much going on that it literally kept me engaged the whole way through.
I read this as a buddy read and we said we will read so many chapters in this day etc etc. that all went out of the window and we both said we need to keep reading.
I was expecting this to happen that didn’t and I didn’t see things coming that just completely threw me.
The ending !!!!!!!!!
Literally this book is the book of dreams. I didn’t want it to end but at the same time I couldn’t stop reading. The only bad side of this book is that I now have to wait for book 3
One of my most anticipated reads did NOT disappoint. Still can't believe I got to read this as an ARC.
There is action from chapter one and man will you need tissues because WHY did they have to die - seriously I am still not over it.
We dive so much deeper into the Strumfrost history, the Siphons and meet King Lucien, who is devine by the way! The world building got richer in this book and I so enjoyed it. Also the ferocity with which our characters have each other's backs, I wanna be part of this pack.
My favourite sassa Direwolf Anassa had me feeling so emotional with her story. Gosh, she is such a wise old soul and I would also like a Direwolf now.
We finally got our f*ck it moment and it was perfect, no notes, just thank you. Now if a certain Siphon king and newly turned Siphon have a moment in Ruinbound, I am totally there for it!
Cannot wait for Book 3 - I need it to be 2027 ASAP!
If you haven't read Direbound or Furybound then please move it up your TBR. Absolute 5 star 🌟 reads.
I had seen so many negative reviews that I hesitantly started this, but was also determined to not let this affect my read and opinion. The internal "I'm an awful human being" and "everyone around me dies or leaves" got tiresome and I could see from the start, that this was going to be the theme for a while. But as the story continued, I enjoyed it more and more. Meryn and Anassa's relationship strengths, as Meryn stops pushing the Direwolf out and learns to trust her and their connection. Meryn is trying to control her new powers as a result of becoming the Queen and is dancing on the edge of attraction with Stark (this slow burn was killing me).
Killian is so annoying and needs to get lost and accept rejection 😅 Also, I love the introduction of Lucien into the mix, and maybe him and Venna? 😉 There's alot more loss in this book, which is probably an unpopular opinion, but I liked it, as it made the story more realistic.
But, I don't know about other beings wanting to take over and control and be all powerful.. didn't we just have this storyline with Killian/Alistair?

Crazy fast paced, something was always happening, I was trying to find time in my busy days to read it, if I didn't need to sleep or work i would have read it in a day.
Meryn and Starks relationship finally coming together ❤️
"If I'm a bad man - you make me want to do bad things for the right reasons. You are my right reason."
"I'll be everyone's villain to scare them away from you"
"I see you, Meryn Sturmfrost. I see who you are and who you could become. Its about the hope you give me for a better future for our country, and my selfish desire to bring it to fruition. I choose to serve at your side because I want that. So tell me what you need, because its very late at night and I'm running short on patience. "
It ends on not really a cliffhanger but a new direction which still has me raging, and sulking that the wait for the next book has begun!
Anassa and Cratos 🥰 love those direwolves, and the loss of characters will be mourned 😭
Wow what a sequel. Starts right where we left off and I enjoyed the mini recap at the beginning.
There was so much action and plot happening, I absolutely loved it. Read it in 2 sittings (only because I have to break to work my day job hah). There was no dull moment and the dialogue was good. I am so happy we got so many more Meryn and Stark scenes since in book 1, Stark was more in the background. We got chapters from Stark's POV which was great. I am excited to learn more about the backstory of the realm and the gods (Lumina and Nocturn).
In this book Meryn and co got to journey to Siphon land. A few new characters were introduced and they are so fun. Very happy that book 3 has a release date announced already and I can't wait!
Wow! Just wow! This book was so good but also in a tragic way that had my anxiety through the roof and heart pounding! It was non stop adrenaline! The pacing, action, tension with Stark, and spice were all superb! Book 2 in a series can make or break it for me and a lot of times lull but nope, not this one! I did get a little annoyed with Stark’s resistance and our FMC being so hyper focused on her sister than than her duty as queen but that was all minor compared to the amazing world building, action, fast pace, and even some Indiana Jones moments. The tension between the two could be cut with a knife and when the spice was spicin, it was perfection! I cried, I raged, and I felt all the things our FMC did. The dual POVs was done effortlessly. The ending was a little anticlimactic at first but then set it up for a whole new arc and path moving into the next book! I can’t rave enough about this book and I’m dying for book 3!
If I thought book one owned me… Furybound said “try again.”
This sequel doesn’t gently pull you back in, it throws you straight into chaos and never lets you breathe. No recap, no mercy, just immediate immersion and absolute devastation in the best way. It picks up right where Direbound left off.
I think I loved this even more than the first book. The world expands in a way that feels bigger, darker, and more dangerous without ever losing its grip. The magic, the history, the stakes, it all levels up.
And Meryn??? She is THAT girl. One of the fiercest FMCs I’ve ever read. The kind who doesn’t just survive the fire, she becomes it. I was obsessed with her in book one, but this?? Next level.
The tension is unreal, especially with Stark 🥵 Daddy Stark stays exactly where he belongs: at the top of the book boyfriend list. Every scene with him had me on edge in the best way. I loved his POV chapters and getting a glimpse into his head.
And then you throw in new characters shifting alliances, raising questions, and making everything feel even more unstable?? I ate it up.
This book is intense, emotional, brutal, and completely addictive. And that ending??? RUDE. Perfect. Painful. I’m unwell and already desperate for the next one.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (but honestly… should be a 6!) I will definitely be rereading and rereading.
What a great sequel in The Wolves of Ruin trilogy! Book 3 cannot come soon enough!
So many questions answered and Fury Bound managed to leave me with even more. I loved every second of this book.
Some things were very unexpected, but also extremely relevant for the story development.
Meryn and Anassa are finally working together and Meryn’s character development is exquisite in this book. She started from hating anything to do with the Bonded to stepping into her role as the true monarch of Nocturna.
Stark and Cratos were amazing as well. Learning more about them throughout the book was awesome. Their dynamic also brought me a lot of chuckles at time and I can’t wait for more.
This book exceeded my expectations in the best way possible.
Fury Bound is a stunning sequel that not only maintains the momentum of Dire Bound but elevates every element that made the first book unforgettable. The romance burns hotter, the fantasy world expands in thrilling ways, and the stakes feel higher than ever. Alongside the captivating central story, readers are introduced to an incredible cast of new characters who are impossible not to love. I was completely immersed from beginning to end and couldn’t put it down. This is romantasy at its finest, and I’ll absolutely be preordering the audiobook to experience the story all over again with the narrators.
I seem to be in the minority here but MID. Meryn had no character development at all. Miscommunication after miscommunication. Stark was great as always but then together just felt like eh because of her lack of development. The most interesting person to me was Lucien tbh. Direbound was a 5 star read for me but this just fell so short. It felt so repetitive and non progressive. I found myself skimming a lot.
I also really hate the ending.
Not sure if I’ll read the last one when it releases tbh.
This was such a highly anticipated read👏🏻 What a ride! 🐺
More POV, loads of magic, plenty of twists, smut and lots more carnage! 🏆
This was a slower start (for me) and I found it only picked up pace when I hit around the 60% mark; then it was non stop 🤯 🥳
I really enjoyed it- but I can’t rate it as high as Dire Bound (which I rated infinity stars 😅) - there’s just a little something lacking for me in this instalment 🤔
However, I’m looking forward to where book 3 (Ruin Bound) will take this tale next 🍿
Unfortunately, this is not a very good book. I LOVED book 1 and could not wait for its sequel… however, this book dragged from page 1. I am not sure what the ARC reviewers read, but imo this book did nothing to further the story from book 1. The romance is not romancing. The dual POV detracts from the story. I remember feeling shocked by the ending of book 1 which I rarely am and I was hoping for the same kind of storytelling - to my dismay there is barely any storytelling or worthwhile character development.
This second installment in the series was fantastic! I was extremely busy which is why it took me so long to finish. All around the book was great. It took a different turn than I was expecting! I feel as though the book was very much a filler with a lot more history of the world and what is going to take place in the last installment. I’m so excited for July of 2027 for the last book. If you haven’t read this series, what are you even doing?! lol kidding but all jokes aside the series put my in a chokehold.
This was so good! I didn't think I would love it as much as the first but hot damn, this kept me on my toes. The audiobook was phenomenal and I thought the narrators did a fantastic job of conveying the characters' emotions and feelings. On that note, that ENDING??!! What do you mean? Nocturn, Lumina, and Astereon were gods?! And the stuff with the Tears? I didn't see those plot twists coming and I'm not ok with that ending. That is all.
