Rate this book
Monster slaying is easier than guarding her heart.

Shadowslayer Maisie Fairborne has one find Queen Calindra and help break the curse that turned the king and queen into dragons. It’s dangerous work—and definitely not the time to fall for the brooding knight who guards her back like it’s his sacred duty.

Sir Castian is a grumpy loner sworn to protect the Fairborne sisters on their quest. He was perfectly content with his solitude—until Maisie upended his world. Now he’s watching her too closely, feeling too much, and when she goes missing, there’s nothing he won’t burn to bring her home.

Maisie’s trying not to catch feelings for Sir Castian. Her sister warned her not to get attached. She’s trying. She really is.

Long nights at camp, deadly battles, and memories of being in each other’s arms are forging a bond between them that neither expected. As necromancers close in to stop them from breaking the dragon-curse, one truth becomes impossible to

The biggest threat to this quest might be the way they feel about each other.

Fans of Carissa Broadbent’s fierce heroines and Jennifer L. Armentrout’s forbidden romances will fall hard for Maisie and Castian’s quest to save a dragon-cursed kingdom.

The dragon curse could doom the kingdom. Falling in love might save it.

Obviously needs to be proofread

Still a good storyline, but there are so many errors in grammar and story continuity. The use of pronouns is often incorrect using him or himself when a female character is being spoken of. The timeline and events line is fractured. Horses come and go during their travels, and Maisie touched her face when she woke up in captivity, and the next sentence said that she was bound with her hands tied behind her back. There are so many errors that I continue to read only because the storyline is engaging and I want to hear how the story ends. Obviously, Michael Anderle has had very little input to the authorship of this series.

The Dragon Queen’s Oath is a fast-paced, emotionally charged fantasy romance that balances monster-slaying adventure with a slow-burn, high-stakes love story. Lyn South and Michael Anderle deliver a quest-driven narrative where danger, loyalty, and desire are tightly interwoven, making the emotional risks feel just as real as the physical ones.

Maisie Fairborne is a standout heroine capable, determined, and emotionally guarded in a way that feels earned rather than performative. Her role as a Shadowslayer places her in constant danger, but it’s her internal struggle the fear of attachment and loss that gives the story its depth. Watching her try (and fail) to keep her heart out of the quest adds a compelling layer of tension to every shared moment with Castian.

Sir Castian embodies the gruff, duty-bound protector archetype, but the novel wisely pushes beyond the surface. His loyalty to the Fairborne sisters, his isolation, and his growing inability to stay emotionally distant from Maisie create a powerful contrast between obligation and desire. When Maisie goes missing, the depth of his devotion becomes impossible to ignore, raising the emotional stakes of the story dramatically.

The worldbuilding supports the romance without overshadowing it. Dragon curses, necromancers, and a kingdom on the brink provide constant momentum, while campfire conversations, shared battles, and quiet moments of vulnerability allow the relationship to develop organically. The result is a story where love feels forged through danger rather than distracting from it.

The Dragon Queen’s Oath is an engaging blend of action, romance, and emotional tension perfect for readers who enjoy fierce heroines, protective heroes, and fantasy quests where falling in love might be the most dangerous risk of all.

good

There’s definitely a lot of action in this book, but there is also a lot of filler that doesn’t need to be there. The two sisters have found the king dragon and now they’re trying to find the queen Unfortunately there is a trader in their midst and they don’t find that out until close to the end of the book. I thought this book had a pretty good ending and I will definitely read the next book in the series.

Maisie:s Story

Story is mainly about Maisie. Editors and proof readers have done a very poor job. Are they riding or walking ? Some times it is difficult to know who is talking and you have to reread everything. I liked the story, but too errors with spelling and grammar. That is why I gave it 3 stars.
