As Hive Fleet Leviathan spreads across the galaxy, the eldar of Iyanden enact a desperate plan to stop a splinter of the fleet that could spell doom for the already-ravaged craftworld. Iyanna Arienal leads an armada of sinister wraithfighters and other deadly spacecraft to aid a human fleet in battling the tyranids - but her true motives may be far more sinister.

Read it because
Buckle up and prepare for supersonic combat as the wraith fighters of Iyanden take on a tyranid horde. This tale follows on from Guy Haley's Valedor novel, not essential reading beforehand, but awesome if you have.

Mixed! You get a too exact for comfort copy of a scene from Valedor, but served with some new nit bits and impressions of how the Iyandari progress in their battle against the Great Devourer. Otherwise, a crisp, worthwhile reading.

The story is about one of my favourite characters in battle so I was just happy to read this short story.

Sadly, too short. I think this would have made a great full length novel.

On the fourth day of Christmas Black Library gave to us…a Shield of Baal short story by Guy Haley. Sitting within the wider Shield of Baal series but also tying in with Haley’s own novel Valedor, Wraithflight sees the eldar of Iyanden come to the aid of an embattled Imperial world against the might of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Spiritseer Iyanna leads a void attack, using the wrathful dead of the craftworld to combat the hive mind’s control over its fleet, but it remains to be seen exactly what the eldar are hoping to achieve with their intervention.

All in all Guy Haleyreally do know how to write interesting and engaging sci-fi. Wraithflight is a nice sequel to Valedor and we get to see how the Eldar continue their battle against the Tyranids. And how the lesser races hardly matters in this struggle.
Still, even though the eldar, as usual, sacrifice a lot of "innocent" human lives while trying to stop the tyranid onslaught. There's a lot of heart and conscience at the end of the story.
I'm just wondering why the eldar use atmospheric aircraft in a space battle...

Not a bad short story but you really need to have also read Valedor as a couple key characters from that novel show up in this short story. If you havent read Valedor, I would say this isnt worth the read.
