Raven learns that she’s an Unmemorable, a race that no one can remember. She isn’t ready to step into a world with secret societies and wars so she returns to her job as a housekeeper despite Cain and the Unmemorables protests. When a confrontation with the Battalion ends in blood, she realizes there’s no going back to what her life used to be. While she tries to find a way to reverse the Unmemorables curse, she falls deeper into her relationship with Cain and a world where nothing is as it seems.
A.P. loves to read, write, travel, watch movies, listen to old timer’s talk about the good old days and daydream. She has two dogs who are world travelers and tolerate the long hours she spends in front of the computer.
Raven has spent almost her whole life being invisible and forgotten. But now she finds herself in the middle of a war. Except instead two sides, there are three.
The Battalion lead by the deranged Angel who wishes to destroy the world as they know it and is determined to have her no matter the cost. The Council lead by Rich, the ruthless grandfather of the man she loves, a man who determinedly believes that the ends justify the means. And the Unmemorables, lead by her estranged father, they have always remained neutral in the war but with Sam's appearance and the possibility of the curse on them being lifted life as they know it is over.
Honestly, I adore Raven. Does she make some ridiculous judgement calls sometimes? Oh, absolutely. But ultimately, Raven always tries to do the right thing.
You do what you have to, regardless of what you feel, and even while I admire that, it scares the shit out of me because that’s why you left me. I could see it in your eyes that you didn’t want to leave and you did it anyway.
Cain & Raven There was plenty of angst with these two. Far more than in the first book, because they're forced to face the reality of who they both really are, the things they've done and may well continue to do, and what it really means to be together when their families are on opposing sides. Their respective pulling them in opposite directions for a large portion of the book.
“I’m staying with the Unmemorables.” “You belong with me, not them.” “They’re my family.” “This is the second time you’ve chosen them over me. They need you to break the curse. I want you because of you, nothing more.” --- “I gave up everything for you and you just keep showing me that you’re more like them than I ever wanted you to be.”
Honestly, the second line had me pissed off for quite a while. Because hell Cain, no one told you to do that. Raven was willing to walk away from you, she was literally out the door, pass state lines - walking away because she knew how important your family was too you and she chose herself. You ran after her! Honestly, he was channeling too much of his alpha-side for a lot of this book.
That being said, there were some sweet moments too. Cain became her first everything—friend, companion, and lover. She’d been invisible to everyone and then along came Cain, an alpha male that liked Armani and could bake the best French toast in the world.
“What will it take for this to penetrate your brain? I love you and no matter what you do, we’re meant to be together.”
Thankfully, Raven helped Cain remember her in the end because I was very worried this book might end on a cliff-hanger and with no set release date for the third book in sight that would've been torture. Still a tad concerned about Cain and his inner alpha, but hopefully he can keep that in check.
Raven & Jackie When I realized you remembered me, I loved you on sight. You’re the first woman to see me for who I am. Finding out you were my sister was icing on the cake. I believe in you. You know that, right?
I love their sibling relationship. They certainly mess with each other like all siblings do. But when push comes to shove they have each 0ther's back. Jackie was always on her side, even against their father and the other unmemorables. Fortunately by the end most of them, including their dear old dad Gerald, were on her side.
“Give him your hair, tell him, and if he says he doesn’t want you, we’ll kill him. Simple.” “We can’t kill Cain,” she mumbled. “Yeah, we fucking can,” Bones said.
No better testament to family's loyalty to you then their willingness to kill people who hurt you lol. That level of loyalty certainly made me warm up to Gerald and Bones.
Hell or high water, Cain was her man and these guys were her family. They were in this together.
Thank you to the author for a complimentary audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm officially a fan of Raven and the Unmemorables.
This book picked up where the last left off, with Raven becoming acquainted with her long lost relatives, the Unmemorables and finding her place in their world while her relationship with Cain deepens. Raven's character is developed considerably throughout this book, she becomes more confident in herself and her abilities and starts to fight back against the forces that are trying to push her down. In a very patriarchal sort of world, this is what you would probably consider to be a very feminist story apart from one little hitch.... Cain. I really hate Cain's character and don't find their relationship remotely romantic, what I think is supposed to come across as passionate and protective is just abusive. Cain tells her what to do and either physically or emotionally punishes her every time she doesn't do exactly what he wants, while she puts up little to no fight and simpers over how masterful he is. I found this really skin creepingly horrible but hopefully it'll ease off a bit as the story goes on or it may be enough to put me off the series altogether.
That said (and it's not a small thing, I hope Cain gets torn limb from limb later in this series. Preferably by Raven), I still loved this story. We meet Maggie, Cain's sweet and feisty little sister and Sunshine, an autistic and endearing Unmemorable, both of whom bring out the softer and empathetic side of Raven which makes her a lot more likable. She also discovers her more violent and pragmatic side, which was great fun to see- she's growing into her power and discovering exactly what she's capable of when it comes to defending her own. She and her motley band of Unmemorables train together and bond while they work out how best to break their family curse, which leads to some gunshot wounds, explosions and various kidnappings which definitely kept me hooked. Eventually, the Unmemorables have to step forward in the battle between the Council and the Battalion and pick a side... which can only make the next book more exciting!
Actual rating 4.5 stars I read a lot, and it's not that often that a book has a totally original idea. The world that this author has created, with the whole concept of the unmemorables is exactly that! I liked this book even more than the first of the series. I like Raven as a character, and she went through a lot of character growth in this book. We got to know the other unmemorables a lot more in this one as well. I absolutely loved two of the new characters who were introduced! Maggie, who is Cain's sweet and full of life little sister was a fun addition. Sunshine is an autistic young boy that happens to be an unmemorable too. I love that the author included an autistic character! The plot of this book was exciting, and full of action. The only thing I didn't love about this book is Cain. He was starting to grow on me at the end of the first book, but I hate him in this one. He comes across as super contolling, but in an abusive way. I can't decide if he is supposed to seem abusive or not. I'm curious to see how his character is in the next book, especially with the events that took place at the end. Roni Gallimore is the narrator of the audiobook. She does a nice job with all the voices, and makes it easy to follow who is speaking. I really enjoyed this audiobook, and I'm very impressed with this author! I recommend if you like paranormal romance, but start with the first book. I personally can't wait to listen to the next installment! **I was provided with this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I was given copy of this book as a beta reader and for an honest review. LOVED IT!!
I have read a lot of books in my lifetime and have been sorely let down with the repetitive plot lines, hum drum heroes and heroines, and the predictability that is found far to often in books these days. I really cannot rave enough about the this brilliantly written book....
READ NO FURTHER if you have NOT read the first book in this series!!!
We pick up with Raven and Cain in the same Vegas local we left them in in the first book in this series. Cain still trying to convince her to abandon her job and her attempt at a normal life and a normal job. Her Unmemorable family and acquaintances are still following her around and being excessively annoying and aggravating. I love the interplay between the Unmemorables and Cain as he still does not trust them in any shape or form. They are trying all sorts of crazy rituals and methods to break the curse convinced that Raven is the woman that has been prophesied to break the curse and allow them to have a "normal" life. A life where they are remembered..
New characters that you love are introduced and new plot twists thrown in....but in my personal opinion I really loved the growth of strength, character and the evolving powers of Raven. We delve more into Cain's past and we meet more members of his family.
I cannot say enough how great this story is....must read in my opinion. :)
Unleashed continues where Unmemorable leaves off. This one is a little more intense and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
Sooooo...... still loving the concept of super people who can be easily forgotten. The charecters continue to be entertaining, though the MC has constant boughts of self doubt that are annoying to continuously read about (it's called SELF esteem because no one can give it to you but yourSELF).
You may have noticed that I tagged it as a possible trigger warning. Their is no rape, but there is eluded to child endangerment and abuse. There is also a scene where the baddie kills a child. It isn't overly graphic, but if you are super sensitive to any mention of child endangerment .....just be aware.
There is a goodreads group out there who is called the romance Safety Group. As a group they let you know if a book has irritating love triangles, men who cheat, etc... . I look at this groups reviews often to see if a potential book will be a trigger or just be annoying. And so in the spirit of the Safety Group I want to let you know that the Male lead does dally with another woman in the middle of this book. It is a deceptive scene (the male has no idea the female MC exists). The situation does get resolved with little harm done.
There seems to be a big break between the 2nd book and the not yet released 3rd book. I mention this because there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of book 2 and the release date for book 3 is nowhere in sight.
Overall, a B+ read....4****......and one I recommend to people who enjoy powerful female MC, lots of action, fantasy/scifi , with a bit of romance added just for spice.
