Brackenridge #1

Sweet Whiskey

Rate this book
I came to Brackenridge to find my dad, but I may have found a pack of cowboys instead. With my best friend at my side and a worn photograph in my pocket, we take a road trip to Sweet Whiskey, the bar where my parents met.

As soon as we step inside, I know my life is irrevocably changed with a single look from a dark-eyed cowboy sitting on a stool.

Colt is all alpha in a tight Henley and perfect pair of Wranglers, and my inner omega gushes for him in more ways than one.

When I take a job dancing at the bar, he brings his alpha buddies on my first night. Brooks is bubbly and charming with a bright smile. Dallas is serious, but sweet and nurturing.

A single dance starts a chain of events that none of us can control. My main purpose for being in town is on the back burner as they help me through my heat spikes.

I’m falling fast for the cowboys that I'm almost positive are my scent matches, but it all comes to a crashing halt when I find out they’re keeping a secret from me.

Can I forgive them or should I move on from this town and the perfect pack I wasn’t even looking for?

Sweet Whiskey is a first person, multi POV, fast burn MFMM cowboy omegaverse.

Promising new omegaverse author. This was a fast paced romance with low angst and moderate amount of spice (as compared to other OV). The characterization wasn't all there for me, but I can see that this will most likely imporve with future books. The premise was interesting and different enough from other stories but not outlandish or unbelievable. There is setup for future stories that I am definitely interested in reading.

Kinsey - omega
Colt - alpha
Brooks - alpha
Dallas - alpha

3.75 ⭐️ but rounding up!!

I really loved all the characters in this book! the sort on why the girls trekked across the country and the boys found family aspect definitely made this book feel special. It did move super quick and some of the writing was cheesy, but I did really enjoy it. I also wish there was more storyline towards the end besides just the bonding and becoming a pack or maybe seeing more of Brooks and Dallas’ pasts. It satiated my omegaverse mood and also gave me my favorite type of romance, possessive cowboys!! Such a fun, spicy read with a quick pace and a sweet small town atmosphere.

First I want to say thank you for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Starts off with FMC going to find her long lost father and ends up finding her mates/ forever pack too! One thing I wish the story would have given us was a little bit more of the father and daughter dynamic. I would have liked to see her build a relationship with her father since that was the whole reason of her going into town! With that being said I really enjoyed the coyote ugly theme to this omegaverse, it was definitely a unique concept to the story. I throughly loved this book and will be continuing the series. Definitely recommend reading!

I received book 2 to this series as an A R C. So obviously, I had to read book 1 to find out what was going on before I jumped into book 2.

Why Choose
Coyote Ugly vibes

This was a sweet story about an Omega who is looking for her father in the small town her mother met him in. Along the way, she finds herself with a job at the local bar and catches the attention of 3 hot, cowboy Alphas who would do anything to make her happy (and theirs) ❤️
This was a quick and easy read. The writing style was simple and easy to follow. Binge-able & fast-paced.
I had a good time and will definitely be on the lookout for more by this author after I read book 2!

ARC review! 💖 Overall ratings: 4⭐️ 3.5🌶️

Coyote Ugly meets Omegaverse 🐺? Sign me up! Starting off, I would like to say that this is the first piece of writing I’ve read from Avery. A TikTok for this ARC fell onto my FYP and I don’t think I’ve ever filled out a google form fast enough. I’m not new to an OV or multi-POV love intrests; and after visiting a Coyote Ugly bar on vacation to San Antonio, I’m obsessed with that aspect too!

I would like to say that overall, I think Avery did a great job with her debut into the OV space. I can only imagine how tricky it must be to write the animalistic concepts into human form. I know when I read my first omegaverse a couple years ago; it took some out of box thinking in order for me to fall in love with them.

Avery does a phenomenal job explaining the dynamics and inner workings of an omegaverse without going too far into detail. Thankfully, with this book it doesn’t take a lot of brain power to figure out the concepts like bonding or knotting. It’s perfect if you’re new to the OV subgenre.

It’s so easy to fall in love with both the main characters and the side characters we get glimpses of…which I’m so hoping there’s plans for them to get their own book down the road! Brielle is actually my spirit animal, if we’re being honest💁🏼‍♀️

The only thing I wish to see more of from this book is for it to be heavier on the character development. Parts of it felt just surface level at times. I imagine deep diving with characters can be a tough to achieve due to the nature of matches, insta love, love at first sight, etc. that occurs with an OV.

I genuinely feel Avery did the best she could for her first OV and I can’t wait to get my hands on more!

DM me on instagram @stephs_bookshelf22 if you want to talk more about this book! 💖

Did I start this book at 1am? Yes I did. Did I finish this book at 9am? Also yes. I did read half go to sleep and wake up to finish up the book lol

I realize that I haven’t read that many cowboy omegaverse books and I needed to change that. When I saw the arc sign up for this book I didn’t even think I just signed up!

This book was so cute! Great after an intense fantasy book 🤩 I would have read this in one sitting if I didn’t need to wake up early!

The characters were amazing. I loved our FMC and her best friend! They were hilarious. The way the MMCs were obsessed from the start!!! I LOVE IT💜 They all were different but worked together perfectly!

I highly recommend this book if you’re wanting a good short read. Small town. Obsessed MMCs. Breeding and just all cute stuff!!!

I really hope we get a book about her best friend 😊

Cute take on the omegaverse world.
Low to no angst.
There wasn't much depth or character development. But I stayed engaged in the story all the way through.
I do wish the epilogue was further out in the future, though.

This book might have melted my kindle...

I’m am kicking myself for snoozing on smutty omega romances for so long. This was HOT 🔥 Colt, Dallas, Brooks. No having to choose just three sinfully hot, completely ripped ranchers all ready to love, knot and take care of their girl. 🥵 YES PLEASE!

The writing style had me giggling and lusting in equal measure. There’s a second book coming for the snarky best friend which im immediately adding to my TBR.

Also, I’m super happy I found The Nest Book Club. As a newbie to OV books, I had a few questions and their comments made me laugh so much. Chomp. You all elevated my reading experience 💕

From start to finish i could not put this down, it was that good. I am a little curious about brielle so I definitely think I will continue the series and hopefully see more of this group in it! I wish we could have seen more of the maverick and how their relationship forms but maybe in the next one! Thanks for the arc!!

Omg this book was so gooooood!!! I loved every minute of it! Zero angst so you’re just along for the ride that is her life.

I loved that fate drew her to this town and she ended up finding more than she expected. The men she finds are absolute goners for her instantly so it was fun to see how they courted her. Such an easy read and hard to believe it’s the debut novel for Avery.

I’ve been reading omegaverse romances for quite some time now but if you are someone who is starting out in the genre I would highly recommend this book💗.

This book definitely gives me Coyote Ugly vibes, it follows Kinsey who is on a trip with her best friend Brielle to discover who her father is and this leads her to the a bar called Sweet Whiskey. It is here that Kinsey firstly catches the eye of an Alpha named Colt. The pair are drawn to one another that’s for sure and Colt is definitely interested in pursuing her but he’s definitely not alone on that front as his ranch mates and unofficial pack mates Brooks and Dallas are also consumed by the omega.

This book was a sweet omegaverse romance. Kinsey and Brielle set out to find Kinsey’s father but the pair definitely found a lot more than the initially set out for. I hope we get Brielles story next.✨

Thank you so much to the author who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭

MMCs: Dallas, Colt, Brooks
FMC: Kinsey (baby, honey, sweetheart)
Spice: 2/5 🌶️ (home run 😏 -> 77%)
Burn: Med (fast relationship, slow intimacy)
Tropes: Omegaverse, Cowboys x City Girl, MFMM, Secrets, Scent Matches, Small Town, Insta-Love, light mm (kissing, teasing/flirting)
Relationship Development: 3/5
Character Development: 3/5

Pros:
- I love the coyote ugly vibes inspiration. I was absolutely obsessed with the movie years ago.👏🏼
- Palate cleansers are always needed so it was refreshing to read a sweet, cozy omegaverse🫶🏼
- While I’m a huge fan of twins or brothers in the same pack, I loved the concept that identical twins weren’t going to be in the same pack. Normally I’d prefer for them to be in the pack together but it’s nice to have a switch up. ☺️
- Don’t get me wrong, I’m an absolute sucker for pet names, but there’s just something about the good ‘ol fashioned “baby” that really does it for me.👏🏼 (which the MMC’s obv call her that 😍)
- Gotta love cowboy romances! The rugged cowboys are just so swooooon worthy.
- I wasn’t sure if I liked the special heightened senses but as I kept reading I loved that aspect more and more. Pretty cool that Colt could sense that.🥰

Cons:
Understanding that this is a debut book so I try not to judge too harshly while still being honest within my review. With that said, I do want to point out just a few things to hopefully help with future growth. Or even just to give a random internet opinion.
- The characters personalities meshed too much (mostly in the first half) that each mmc didn’t stand out or really sound like themselves but like each other. (Wish we got to see more of them because it felt like it wasn’t enough - more fluff than relationship development).
- The formatting of the paragraphs had no indentations, which isn’t a must but I can understand if this bothers readers. Especially when you switch to a new page and there’s no indentation to indicate the start of a new paragraph so it seems like you’re on the same paragraph/dialogue from the previous page but you’re not. It can get confusing.
- Some of the visual descriptions and dialogue were lacking depth that it was hard to get lost into the book and I kept losing focus. I won’t say this always happens because there is strong writing in certain areas of the book but it is frequent. I’m sure as the author writes more it will become more consistent. ☺️ This is more of a suggestion but I think if you add more depth to and around dialogue tags, it would give that missing connection in their conversation more visuals.
- In the first few pages of the book there was a big info dump - it’s hard to get sucked into a story when you’re reading an opening then it info dumps for a few pages and then brings back to where the main character is.
- Hear me out, I’m not a fan of Brielle’s character. She came off a bit controlling / judgmental in situations and as a friend she should have been more compassionate imo. I’m not a fan of her holier personality.
- I’m personally not a fan of the “pup” terms for baby. This is just a personal preference. I’ve only seen it a few times in non-shifting omegaverse books but I just can’t get behind it since they’re not actual shifters.

Discrepancies:
- One page Kinsey tells the guys that she’s up open to them courting her, and not too long after she tells Brielle that she’s not ready to settle down. That’s the point of courting.. to settle down.
- One of the mmc’s told her about the rodeo (I believe colt) but then when she was talking to the waitress at the diner she had no idea about the rodeo.

With all of this said, writing in general isn’t a cake walk and takes a ton of effort and the hours and days the author put in to create this book means something. Omegaverse can be tricky to write and imo for a debut book, this came out really good and I enjoyed it. I look forward to more of Avery’s upcoming work and watch her grow as an author. Maybe I’ll get over my dislike for Brielle and read her book if released. 😅🖤

Sweet Whiskey by Avery Dauson follows Kinsey as she travels to Brackenridge with her best friend to search for her father… and ends up finding way more than she expected. Specifically, three alphas who quickly realize they might need an omega in their lives.💐🤠🤠🤠

This was Dauson’s first book, and I was honestly impressed. There were a few small bumps in the story, but overall it was a good mix of sweet and spicy. The story doesn’t have a lot of heavy drama, though one of the alphas does struggle with some hesitation, which adds a little tension without slowing things down too much.

One of my favorite parts was Kinsey herself. She isn’t a shy or timid omega, and she stands up for herself when dealing with the alphas, which made her really fun to read.
This is a why choose romance with no MM. The alphas are fully focused on Kinsey and their relationship with her, which makes their dynamic really fun to watch develop.

Overall, this was an entertaining start to the series, and I’m excited to see where Dauson takes it next!

overall this was a sweet omegaverse read. Kinsey is on a journey to find her bio dad and along the way she meets 3 cowboys who give her a reason to stay, even if she doesn’t find who she is looking for.

tbh i was more interested in all the side characters that the author introduced. Brielle, Kinsey’s best friend who came on the trip with her, is a ride or die bestie and she’s fierce and i can’t wait for her story.

i would have liked this book to maybe be a little bit longer to expand on certain things, but overall i did enjoy it. Colt, Brooks, and Dallas were all obsessed with her from the beginning.

quick note: this is a MFMMM so none of the mmcs are together romantically or sexually, however, there are a few moments where the mmcs have a helping hand or kiss one another briefly.

a great debut novel from the author. can’t wait to read more from them!

I’m giving it 3 stars because I finished the book. Told from all POV. The author spent very little time on developing the characters except for the FMC and her best friend. Each alpha was immediately drawn to Kinsey, which I liked. I just felt like the story was very underwhelming? Pretty simple premise, yet no real time was spent on the relationship between her potential “father”. And I was confused about why Colt was so moody and the interaction between the alpha’s was platonic but not? I honestly walked away with more questions than answers.

Sorry to say but I really didn't enjoy this. It moved far too fast, the insta-love was off the charts (I switched off when one of the MMCs bought a house for the FMC after knowing her for such a short time) and I wanted more character development. This is not a bad book by any means, it just didn't suit my personal preferences. If you are looking for a speedy, no angst read where everyone falls in love in a few days and lives happily ever after, then this is for you!

Plot: 3/5 • Smur: 4/5 ———> You’re typical ABO omegaverse read. This one involving finding her long lost dad, gaining a brother and her cowboy scent matches. All pretty straight forward.

The plot fizzles out once the DNA comes back that she is the long lost daughter. After that, it’s just pure heat induced smut. There’s no big climax. No third act break ups. Nothing too spectacular. It’s just contemporary omegaverse smut.

A good pallet cleanser, if you will.

This was cute... but it was just a bit meh?
I'd read books again by this author, and I liked the small town world created, but the scenes lacked depth throughout. Even the spicy scenes, I just more depth. Everything felt a little surface level, but it was an easy read with very little drama and a cute universe. I would have loved to hear more about the dancing bar, but again, it felt like it was just scratching the surface.

“I’ve never almost lost control like that. I was two seconds from knotting you in our public library.”

✔️MFMM contemporary omegaverse why choose romance
✔️cowboy romance
✔️scent matches
✔️coyote ugly vibes
✔️found family
✔️small town
✔️breeding & pregnancy
✔️no 3rd act breakup

This book is a cute contemporary omegaverse, and though it is a quick read and the spice is plentiful the plot is also important which I appreciate. If you are new to omegaverse this is an easy entry point to the genre, the OV specific things are explained enough to make sense but it isn’t overwhelming. There are only two things I wish were expanded upon (the FMC’s relationship with her father which was the main plot outside of finding her pack, and the depth of the romantic relationships/their pack dynamic) but given the page count and the fact that the story does feel complete as written, it wasn’t a huge deal to me.

Kinsey (FMC, omega), Colt (MMC, alpha), Brooks (MMC, alpha), and Dallas (MMC, alpha) meet when Kinsey moves to their small town looking for the man she believes is her biological father. They are instantly drawn to each other (hello scent matches) and want to court, but the men are keeping a fairly big secret from her. As they help her with heat spikes they get closer physically and emotionally, but can they get through this deception and move forward as a pack or will everything fall apart?

Like I mentioned previously, I would love to have seen more about their pack dynamic and each individual relationship, but I like that we get to see the FMC have one on one time with each of her alphas and that each of the men has their own personality. In fact, every person mentioned in this story is intriguing enough for me to want to learn more about as the series and small town is expanded. This is a fun debut and I am looking forward to seeing what else this author writes in the future!

I have to say, I think this is a VERY strong start for Avery Dauson. There are a few minor things I noticed that honestly are probably more so personal preference than anything else that I'll talk about later, but nothing that would deter me from continuing to read this series. I'm very much looking forward to book two, and any other series Avery Dauson writes!

So, Kinsey is an omega on the hunt for her father with her best friend Brielle who is pretty much on the run from her parents. They end up at a bar called Sweet Whiskey in the small town of Brackenridge, and there stumble upon Colt, Dallas, and Brooks. This book has major Coyote Ugly vibes which made my millennial heart happy.

Things I loved about this book:

-While the spice came on quickly it wasn't an instalove situation. Even with scent matches and fated mates at play we got to see the relationships develop over time which I always appreciate in an omegaverse book.
-I loved the characters. I thought Kinsley was so sweet, and I loved the fact that all the guys were kind to her. Like, they were interested in her pretty immediately which was truly a nice change of pace in an omegaverse book.
-The drama was low stakes. Don't get me wrong, I love some good drama but I also do appreciate from time to time just sitting back and watching the relationship develop.
-THE HEAT WAS HEATED!!!! It also wasn't just rushed over. That's probably not a big deal to other people but damn I am a FAN of the heat hahaha. Avery Dauson KNOWS how to bring it. Literally all the spicy scenes were written so well. They didn't feel copy paste at all, and they helped further along the story.

Like I said, I think this is a very strong debut novel.

Now there were just a couple things that I wasn't really a fan of, but like I said, nothing that would deter me from continuing to read this series.

-I am trying to think of how to bring this up in a way that doesn't offer spoilers. I think the best way to state it is that there is some teasing of queer relations within the book, but it doesn't actually ever go there. Now please understand I LOVE any and all queer rep within omegaverse books, but in this case I wish the author had either chosen to have queer rep or taken that part out. The way it's in there now just didn't fit to me. That being said, that's personal preference and not everyone may feel the same.
-I wish we'd spent more time with Levi and Kinsey building a relationship with each other. It felt like the whole reason for her being there was kinda ignored. I'd have loved maybe 20ish more pages if it meant we got to see those two build more of a relationship with each other. Again, this is personal preference and others may not feel the same way so take it with a grain of salt. Clearly I still really enjoyed the book haha.

I am assuming/hoping a book for Brielle is coming up next because I am looking forward to reading it!

This is such a sweet story with low angst and found family from a new omegaverse author.

Kinsey has come to Brackenridge to find her father who never knew about her. She and her best friend have graduated from an omega academy, but neither has found a pack that they are ready to settle down with yet. When they get to Sweet Whiskey, the bar where Kinsey's parents met, Kinsey is immediately drawn to Colt. However, she is met with resistance when asking about her father. The friends find a room at the motel and take jobs at the bar, but they aren't giving up on finding Kinsey's father. Colt brings his alpha friends, Dallas and Brooks, to Sweet Whiskey to see Kinsey and one dance triggers heat spikes for her leading them down a path toward bonding. When she finds out that they are keeping secrets though, Kinsey has to decide if she can forgive them and move forward together.

I really loved the characters in this book. Kinsey and Brielle were so much fun. I loved how Kinsey was a little sweeter and more submissive while Brielle was more on the feisty side. Colt was a strong, stubborn alpha who wasn't sure about forming a pack. Brooks was more of the charming type while Dallas was more of the quiet, sweet type. I did wish that there had been a little bit more story at the end, but I really enjoyed the Coyote Ugly type bar and I thought that added a fun aspect to the book. I did also feel like some of the backstories got a little bit repetitive and I wish there had been more exploration of different characters' backgrounds. This is a fun blend of omegaverse and cowboy romance. I think it would be a good read for anyone who wants an introduction into omegaverse. I'm excited to read more from Avery Dauson and I hope that Brielle's story is next.

This book was a weird one. It was written very amateurish. The whole book was just a bit weird. It was extremely instant love and Insta everything. There was definitely no leading up to or preamble or intrigue or anything like that regarding anything in this book. Everything was 0 to 100 in a second.
And because of that I couldn’t really get into it. The one guy literally introduced himself and then asked her for a kiss. And then they start making out like everything was just so rushed and so fast that I didn’t leave any room for getting into it.
I also feel like the guys came across very immature and young even in their dialogue and behavior. I mean they were in their early 30s, but they kind of sometimes came across as college Bros.
Other than the Insta love and her instantly finding her father, there was nothing else to the story.
And there was way too much finger banging going on. Like it was nonstop.
There was also this extremely weird and cringe homo erotic thing going on. It mostly came from the character Brooks, but it was just weird cause they were all straight and nobody was into it or hinted otherwise. But then the author made Brooks do two tiny things that were just weird and out of character?! Again the other pack member didn’t understand what was going on. It wasn’t into it at all. I mean it was just a kiss, but it was still really weird and they all just kind of laughed about it and we’re a bit bro-ish about it, but it still was just so out of context and I just don’t understand what the author was doing.
The whole book was just weird.

Sweet Whiskey is definitely a fast paced sweet read of a cowboy omegaverse! There is no real angst, a cosy storyline to keep you reading and a few spicy scenes to satisfy those cowboy alpha urges! This book is ideal for wanting a standalone omegaverse which has no real triggers, no angst and is just semi insta-love. I'd say this book is medium burn with some fast paced scenes at the beginning but the premise of scent matches does allow for the fast paced relationships to develop. I can recommend this as an enjoyable read if wanting a break from series or wanting a good standalone!

Kinsey was a really likeable fmc wanting to find her dad after she had lost her mother to illness. She has a very sweet personality but had her moments of fun dancing, has a love of coffee and wanting to connect with the little family she might've had. Enter her alphas to sweep her off her feet! Colt is the unofficial head alpha whose very protective of those he considers family and has a hidden romantic side deep within. Brooks is the more care free, thrill seeking of the alphas I'd say and is known to be stubborn and only good with horses. Dallas was my slight favourite out of the three, he was the main sweetheart and romantic one who dreamt of settling down and having a family. He had the more romantic side openly out of the three.

SCENT MATCHES
SMALL TOWN
COWBOYS
COYOTE UGLY VIBES
BREEDING/PREGANCY

SPICY INSTALOVE

This was a pretty fast paced, spicy OV read. Two best friends Kinsey (the FMC) Brielle leave the city to try to find Kinseys father based on a old photograph left by her mother. They arrive at the bar Sweet Whiskey which is from the photo and both end up getting jobs as waitresses that also dance when the right song and bells come on. I did like the coyotes ugly vibes! Colt, Dallas and Brooks are the three alohas who’ve known each other and are practically like family. They’re not an established pack yet but Dallas and Brooks have wanted to form one with Colt when the time was right. There immediately take by Kinsey. The romance between the three is fast paced and SPICY. There is some drama between her and Colt because he technically lies to her to protect someone he loves. No third act break up and plenty of HEAT. I would have like to see more character development with the guys and maybe more of the connection between Kinsey and her father but for a first book I felt it was a good start. I will absolutely be reading Brielles book I love how sassy she is! This is a good palate cleanser and simple, quick read. If you enjoy Omegaverse I would recommend this.

Coyote ugly meets omegaverse!!

Kinsey and her best friend leave the city for the adventure of a lifetime after her mom’s passing, determined to finally uncover the truth about her father. Their journey leads them to a little bar in the middle of nowhere called Sweet Whiskey, and I absolutely adored this bar!

What Kinsey and Brielle don’t realize at first is that Sweet Whiskey is famous for more than just drinks, the staff puts on unforgettable dance performances, and soon the girls find themselves working there too.

Enter Colt, the ranch manager and an alpha who is instantly captivated by Kinsey the moment she steps into town. He introduces her to his friends? Brooks, the coffee-loving cowboy with the sweetest cinnamon roll energy, and Dallas, the more serious but quietly tender alpha. Together, these three bring out Kinsey’s omega side and support her through her surprise heat spikes in the most caring way.

What I loved most was that while the girls came to Sweet Whiskey searching for a long-lost father, they ended up finding so much more love, belonging, and a small town full of heart.
