Rooting… when familiar souls meet in soil and grow. For years, Dana Parks and Reed Day circled one another as family friends and quiet witnesses to each other’s lives. In between graduations, family gatherings, missed looks, near confessions, and moments too brief to take root, love waited patiently. Each had feelings the other never fully knew. It wasn’t until a chance meeting in Chicago that everything shifted. Grown now, and finally in sync, they step into something new. When Dana is offered the position of Director at the Roots Black History Museum back in St. Louis, Reed, an established helicopter pilot, chooses to return with her. Together, they learn to build something romantic from the foundation of their lifelong bond. Set against the backdrop of Juneteenth and the echoes of legacy it carries, Roots to the Sky is a celebration of Black history, Black love, and the courage it takes to finally say yes to each other and to the future.
I love books about grown up love! This was a cute, quick read with a little spice as promised lol We need more stories bout people finding love in their 40s. Marlee always delivers!
This was an inspiring story and I loved it from beginning to end. I appreciated the history given about Juneteenth in this story and found the idea for the museum inspiring. If Greenwood was a real place, I would love to live there. There’s something about reading stories celebrating black love and community and building our legacy that is as inspiring as it is enjoyable. This was an excellent read from beginning to end and I would definitely recommend. There are a few editing issues but none that are enough to take away from the enjoyment of this story. 4.5/5 stars
Truly enjoyed Reed and Dana’s story. It took them a while to finally get together, but when they did, perfection. I like how Reed wanted to finally lock her down but Dana urged them to get to know each other as adults. It was a grown folks love story which we can always expect from Ms.Rae. And it was also good to see characters from prior books as well. Good read commemorating Juneteenth!
Loved Reed and Dana's story. All the way from childhood to adults. Love was always there. They just needed to be ready to receive it. The black excellence leaped off the pages through Reed and Dana's passions along with the rich family heritage. I can’t leave out the sexual chemistry between Reed and Dana. Explosive, but realistic. Thanks for the Junetenth history. Great read!
I enjoyed this story set around Juneteenth. I loved how the author described the details of the museum of Black History and the exhibits. I could visualize the scenes in my head. I was glad that Reed and Dana finally got their HEA together.
