The Winslow Brothers #2

Proposing to Preston

Rate this book
Proposing to Preston is the second of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Brooks... he's probably sailing around the world with Skye by now. And Cameron, who's having too much fun sparring with Margaret. And Christopher, who's only on the look-out for a congressional seat and absolutely. nothing. else.)

Preston Winslow has a heart as open as the sky and room in his life for someone special. When he falls in love with Broadway actress, Elise Klassan, he holds nothing back.

Elise, who has made tremendous sacrifices to forward her career, is swept off her feet by handsome, charming Preston...but the stage has been her first love for so many years, she doesn't know if there's room for Preston in her life. When the day comes that she must choose between her ambition and her heart, she profoundly hurts the one man who could have made her happy.

Two years later, Elise has become a world-famous actress and Preston is a very successful lawyer. But fame has not equaled happiness for Elise, and Preston is much too bitter and cynical to ever consider falling in love again.

Is it possible that the only person who can mend Preston's heart is the one who originally broke it? Only if Elise can figure out a way to make him believe in love all over again.

Authors aren't supposed to have favorites, but we do. It's a fact.

Mine?

Lars Lindstrom...Fitz English...and now, Preston Winslow. There's something about Preston. I've written twenty-two heroes now, but he's a stand-out for me. ♥

In my opinion, there isn't a more romantic place on earth than New York City in the springtime. Dear readers, I hope you fall in love, too.

4 'second chance' stars

Before I start, I knew this book is gonna gut me. We got some hints about Preston's misery back in Bidding on Brooks. To make matter worse, Katy is gonna make us witness how Preston fell in love with the actress Elise in New York, only to have him heartbroken and return back to his hometown.

Preston, a young lawyer, met the love of his life while watching one cringe-worthy off-off Broadway show in New York. Despite the less than stellar performance, he was captivated by the actress who played Matilda.

Elisa is an ambitious young woman who is chasing her dream in performance arts. Like many New Yorker, she left her small hometown to embark for a journey of a lifetime. Despite her conservative upbringing and the lack of support from her family, she is adamant in achieving her goal.

"You're the only one who can make your dreams come true."

The whirlwind romance between Preston and Elisa was swoon worthy in every way. Preston is always there cheering for her and being the supporting boyfriend who cater to her every needs. Even with her conservative nature, Preston is more than patient with her.

"Love scares you? Being in love."
"Very much."
"Then I won't ever fall in love with you, so you'll never have to fear me."

However, when come to making some hard choices, Elisa decided that her career supersede everything else. Are you kidding me, woman? It make me so mad to read this particular chapter where she end up hurting the one person who love her unconditionally. To say I'm freaking angry is an understatement. I decided that she needs to grovel on her knees to get Preston back. Anything less is simply not satisfying.

As time pass and Elisa already regretted her decision, I'm laying back waiting to see what moves she had up her sleeves. I enjoyed her road to redemption, but I didn't like the little drama about her family being thrown in. I wish she had to work harder to get him back. I don't want to make it easy for her.

Overall, Proposing to Preston bring out a strong message about compromising, being supportive and understanding to your partner. Although I'm standing on Preston's side, he do acknowledge his own part in the entire fiasco. I love seeing how they both learn to love again and making compromises in life. Definitely a moving and emotionally engaging read. Can't wait to read about the next Winslow's brother.

I love the last sentence of the story (slightly spoilerish),

This book was so so for me. I loved Preston; however his heroine really ticked me off with her decisions she made. I ended up being frustrated and mad at her for majority of the book and that made my enjoyment of the story go down a bit.

I still love the series though, and I plan to continue with it. If I am honest though, so far the Winslow Brothers do not hold a candle to the " English Brothers!!!" Just saying!!! I'm thinking I prefer the English's...I have Cameron and Christopher's story to read yet...so you never know...they may sweep me off of my feet....LOL

Once again Katy Regnery’s newest book had WOWed me! Proposing to Preston is a five star plus more read. This is the second book in the Winslow Brother’s Series which is also tied the English Brothers Series all by Katy Regnery.

First of all you need to know Preston is HOT and rich. Living in New York City he ends up at an off, off Broadway play which is awful. While there, the leading lady Elise caught his attention and later caught his heart. Preston and Elise know their timing is bad and try to walk away, unsuccessfully! Both are in love with each other and move into marriage. Neither is ready and both are left with a devastated heart on separate coasts. Elise returns to find Preston again but the pain is still strong for him.

I loved this book. Katy Regnery has managed to portray two people who are so sweet and caring, yet sufficiently realistic to the reader. It is a gift. The understanding and pureness of the characters is what made the story so heartfelt. There were parts that were so touching, that I couldn’t wipe off the tears fast enough to read.

This is a must read for all romance lovers

I've always wanted to read this one cos I've read pretty much all of the others in this set of associated series. I'd just never gotten to finish this one. Welp, it wasn't too bad, but nothing special. Not the best in the series. (That honour goes to J.C. and the Bijoux Jolis, Jean Christian and Libitz's story.)

This one has Pres, a new lawyer, falling for Elise, an aspiring Broadway actress, who comes from a very traditional Mennonite farm background. They fall hard for each other, but are torn apart by circumstances. When they meet up again a couple of years later, they both have to work really hard at rebuilding their relationship.

Quite a sweet romance, but not particularly memorable.

So, I have always loved Katy Regnery's books, but Proposing to Preston has quickly gone to the top of my favorites by her.

Preston is a hot millionaire, former rower, and all around fantastic guy. Elise is a sweet heroine who has left her family in uptown NY to pursue her Broadway dreams. When they meet, the chemistry is sizzling. They fall quick and fast, but will that be enough??

I loved seeing Elise grow in to herself as a strong female lead, who finally realizes what she truly wants and goes for it (and isn't afraid to admit her mistakes and say sorry). I also liked the fact that when it came to forgiveness, it wasn't automatically given, and wasn't all rainbows and flowers immediately. (I know it's fiction, but sometimes you just need realistic parts to it).

Katy has once again written a story that makes you connect with the characters, gives you butterflies in the stomach when the characters have them, and has you ugly crying along with them.

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic romance read (make sure you give yourself enough time to read it in one sitting, because once you start it, you won't want to put it down :)

5+++

I began writing this review before I had even finished reading Proposing to Preston because I just had to get my thoughts down as quickly as I could. As I continued to read page after page, chapter after chapter, I realized what an amazing story and couple Preston and Elise were going to be, and I was absolutely right. Proposing to Preston is yet another spectacular addition to Katy Regnery's Blueberry Lane series.

Elise was raised in a Mennonite family, simple and plain. But she always felt there was a bigger world for her to see as she had constantly been enamored by the world of acting. So gathering her inner courage, she decided to leave home to go to college and study the world of performing, hoping to one day get her big break on Broadway. But when that day finally arrived, so did Preston a man who immediately captivated her.

Preston comes from a family of five siblings and had big dreams of his own always wanting to be in the Olympics. But because of a serious injury, he had to redirect his focus to making it through law school and now is concentrating on studying and passing the bar. He was certainly not looking for nor expecting to find love. But when he goes to the theater he is completely mesmerized by Elise and is unable to get her out of his mind. To his surprise, he is offered an opportunity to meet her and Preston is completely swept off of his feet the moment their eyes meet as he feels his soul being drawn to Elise.

But concerned about losing focus on her dreams, Elise continues to try and pull away from Preston, but he is simply unable to let her be. Despite Elise’s attempts to stay away, she is simultaneously drawn to him, and as they continue to spend time together, their connection and love grows rapidly. But when a chance of a lifetime presents itself, the life they’ve begun to build begins to crumble. Now two years later, can Elise learn to balance her dreams while trying to win back the heart of the man who has always owned hers, and can Preston let go of the hurt from their past so he and Elise can learn how to share their lives together?

I am absolutely head over heels in love with Preston and Proposing to Preston made my heart flutter from beginning to end. I am completely in awe of Katy Regnery, and I don't know how she continues to outdo herself story after story, but she has once again completely captured me. Despite suffering from hurt and heartache, both Preston and Elise's unrelenting love for one another positively leaps off the page. Preston is such a beautiful man both inside and out and although he suffers from a shattered heart, his irrevocable love for Elise carries him past the hurt to be there for her no matter what.

There have been many, many wonderful men throughout The Blueberry Lane series, but Preston has absolutely captured my heart. The depth of sensitivity as well as the loving and forgiving nature exhibited by him has reached down inside of me to hold onto my heart, just as it did to Elise’s.

In my opinion, Ms. Regnery has once again surpassed her previous writings gifting to us a beautiful and wonderful story of a love at first sight that despite separation and sorrow never falters, finding its way back to the hearts that were meant to spend a lifetime together.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Every time I read a romance about celebrities, I get a little nervous because there's usually some crazy subplot involving the entertainment industry and the book is flooded with extraneous supporting characters getting in the way of the romance like the money-grubbing agent, the selfish director/producer, the rude and nosy reporter....the list goes on.

While I'm well aware that characters and situations like this do exist in real life and can be an obstacle in celebrity relationships, it's really annoying seeing them take away from the one on one couple scenes in romance novels.

Thankfully, Proposing to Preston is one of the exceptions to this. The first half of the book explains how Preston and Elise first met and fell in love in New York back when she was a struggling actress and he was a recent law school graduate. I won't give away too many details about their courtship and initial breakup, but I will say that I was especially impressed with the way that the breakup was written. The blame is evenly split. Both Preston and Elise make mistakes, neither side is portrayed more sympathetically than the other. And the funny thing is, I actually understood both sides of the argument. I understood why they said the things they said and how the other one was hurt by their words. This alone made the second half of the book where they see each other for the first time in two years well worth it.

REALLY Looking forward to Cameron's story <3

From the beginning, I could see that Elise and Preston were going to be something extraordinary together but they still managed to blow me out of the water. If you're new to her writing, I think you'll end up agreeing that Ms. Regnery is setting the bar for contemporary romance. If you're a longtime fan, these two are likely to become your new favourite couple of hers. Is Preston Winslow book boyfriend worthy? Oh heck yeah!

Preston's wholehearted devotion to Elise made me wish that there were more men out there like him while Elise herself was admirable for her dedication to the stage and a strong work ethic. Their love for each other comes so purely, burns so passionately that I felt like I was falling head over heels as well. I really believed in the rightness of them being together and I know I'm not the only reader who found their separation unbearable. Imagine me wiping my eyes, biting my nails, and silently begging for them to get the second chance they deserved.

A generic, run-of-the-mill romance this is definitely not.

Preston and Elise were perfection together. The soul deep connection and magnetic chemistry were beautiful to behold. Katy Regnery did a wonderful job of letting the characters become friends and slowly build up to something more. The slow progression into love is what made it so heartbreaking when these two people were apart. Elise was definitely a go-getter when it came to following her dreams and that tenacity was a central part of her character. Preston led with his heart and that is what made me his biggest fan. Proposing to Preston is really something special. Each time I read a Katy Regnery book I grow more fond of her as a writer.

When a tragedy strike Preston takes control of the reins and I liked that about him, "it was just dinner with Jess. She’ll understand.” He’d reached for Elise’s face, forcing her to meet his eyes. “Listen to me. I know you’re in shock, but I need you to walk upstairs and pack a bag. I’m going to go next door and do the same.” Preston could be so romantic and sweet, “you need food, wife. I promise you’ll need your strength for later,” he said, lifting her hand to his lips and kissing it." I liked this book, it was sweet and cute.

End of chapter 1: I'm in love with Preston.
When I was reading the book it was like I was back in my past where Emily Brontë and Jane Austen made me dream, made my heart beat with joy, love and sadness at the same time, like the best English Classic Literature.
Elise and Preston seem to belong to another generation. Preston is such a gentleman, sweet and passionate. Elise, raised with a strict education, is so polite, pure and a dreamer.
Both of them work hard to realize their dream.

“Life throws curveballs, It's incovenient and unpredictable...and loving with your whole heart might not be enough. Plus...” she paused, dropping his eyes, “it's risky.” - Elise
“There's no other way to love.” - Preston

Preston was a step away to row at the Olimpic Games but a bad injury shattered his dream forever.
Elise, raised as a Mennonite, dreams to be a Broadway actress but she's not supported by her family.
She thinks that it takes more courage to be oneself that to step on a stage and be someone else. Her dream, the theatre, is her refuge and her escape, the means to run away, also from Preston's love.

She'd let fear rule her life for years. She'd let fear wreak havoc on her dreams. In a shocking turn of events, fear had turned out to be stronger than ambition.

When Elise leaves him, Preston is hurt, broken, angry, but his love for her always intact.
Sometimes love, dreams and passion are not enough to keep two souls together and married.
After two years apart they have a second chance to be a wife and an husband again.
They've learned that love should not be selfish, that trust is as much important as love, that in a marriage each one is a special and unique individual, and that love can overcome differences and social status.

He took a step toward her. “I missed you”.
“I missed you so much, it felt like dying,” she said taking a step toward him.
“Like thirst and hunger,” he said, reaching for her. “All the time.”
“Like frost. Like ice. Like there was no warmth on the earth,” she said, stepping into his arms.
“Like eternal winter,” he agreed, pulling her tightly against him.
“Like happiness was a fairy tale. Like joy was a mith. Like love...”
“...was impossible,” he finished.

Katy Regnery is always able to bring to life characters so real that it's impossible not to fall in love with them.
Touching, romantic, sweet, a book you can't put down until the last word.
Every time I finish one of Katy book I said to myself “this is my favorite”, but the truth is that her books are one more amazing than the last one. It's like an addiction, the more you read the more you want to read, that's why I'm already waiting for the third book of this series.

*Sigh* Yeah, I was doing a lot of that while reading Proposing to Preston. Those deep down, "oh my goodness" sighs that are a clear indicator that what I'm reading is sweet, romantic, emotional, and deserving of my complete, undivided attention from page one thru to the end. Where my emotions are so wrapped up in what is going on that I feel every bit of what the characters feel--happy when they're happy, and torn apart when their world comes crashing down. Yes, Katy Regnery has done it again, in grand style, and with a matchup that will have you swooning...then aching...and finally breathing a final sigh of relief and happiness.

The first thought that comes to mind when thinking of Preston Winslow is that he's absolutely, undeniably perfect. Incredibly sweet, patient, devoted, smart, loves with his entire being and continually puts Elise first. Of every book Katy Regnery has written, Preston is my outright favorite male lead (I'm so sorry Fitz, you've fallen to an extremely close second). I can't imagine a more ideal leading man than Preston. And at the end of part one of the story, my heart was positively torn in two for him.

Elise is a strong, driven young woman who comes from a very simple, rural upbringing hoping to make a name for herself as an actress. She's innocent and charming, but when faced with the reality of what the relationship between her and Preston becomes and has to make a choice, everything is ripped apart. But she does realize what she's missing, and what her true feelings are in the second part of the story...and with some extra family drama thrown into the mix, has the opportunity to try and fix the hurt she caused.

Yes, there's angst. Yes, there's drama. But there's also love that comes from deep down in the heart, passion, and second chances (and not just for Preston and Elise). Fans of second chance romances will absolutely devour this story and come out with a huge smile and a new favorite story...and maybe some tears shed along the way.

5 flawless stars for Proposing to Preston, my new favorite Blueberry Lane story and a top recommendation for romance lovers. Be sure to clear a prominent place on your book boyfriend list for Preston...you're going to need it.

*Happy sigh* No, really. I am seriously doing the happy sigh thing over this book. It was a sweet, quick and engaging read that pulled practically every emotion known to man out of me while reading it, even a few sniffles which doesn’t happen all often. And then there was the fact that I actually HAD to talk myself into putting it down because I had things that I had to do and putting them off was not an option.

Proposing to Preston is a well written and engaging second chance at love story that is told in two parts: When Preston and Elise first meet then when they collide once more after being separated for two years and I must admit that I liked that it was done in this way rather than flashbacks peppered throughout the book, not that there aren’t a few, but this way I was able to focus better and found that I really liked both of them a lot. While raised in very different worlds, they both had drive and ambition and an inherent kindness that called to each other. Knowing this had me rooting for them to end up together. But as much as I liked them, I did get frustrated with them at various points, okay I got pissed off with them, but only because of the situations they found themselves in and their handling of them.

But what I enjoyed the most was how the story unfolded. Knowing that they are separated by a choice made by Elise had me turning the pages in anticipation to see just how it all went down and when the first hint finally came to light I couldn’t help but cringe. And when it came to pass...let’s just say I almost tossed my e-reader into the freezer. Almost. As I said already, the writing was engaging and the story flowed well and I didn’t feel lost in anyway since I didn’t read the first book in the series, so this one can definitely be read as a standalone, but will be adding it to my TBR list because I really liked the Winslow family members.

The Bottom Line: Fun, sweet read that’s perfect for summer!

Loved!!!!!
Finished at 3:45am because I couldn't put it down.
Preston = New Favorite

I completely loved 'Proposing to Preston.' Forget about crazy plot devices designed to evoke excessive drama, vengeful exes intent on torturing star-crossed lovers, and one-dimensional characters who rely on lust and covetous desires to run their relationships. Because that's not what we have here. Instead, this story brought me back to what I love about a genuinely heartfelt contemporary romance. A story with character and depth of emotion; a story of conflict and pain, but also humility and maturity; a story with heart and hope and - even though it is fiction - relatability.

I have been a fan of Katy Regnery's from the very beginning. But Preston and Elise's book has moved up in ranks amongst my favorites of hers, to share the top spots with the cream of the crop. I loved everything about this book. Preston is fantastic. He is honorable and patient, loving and genuine. Falling in love with Elise made him a better man. I just loved the guy. Elise, on the other hand, has such a fascinating and completely different background than Preston. Her ambition is clear, as is her sincerity of heart and intention, though her character is also laced with fear. They may be very different on paper, but as a couple, they are a beautiful thing to behold. That is, until their speedy romance hits a huge brick wall.

The ultimate conflict between the two, and why this is a second chance romance, was really well played. I loved how every angle was looked at and examined. The past and present was viewed with new eyes. It was hard to watch them be hurt and lose so much. But this journery that we were taken on with them was a beautiful thing to behold. There may be moments during your reading when you want to yell at one or both of them, but hold out judgment. These two will surprise you and leave you well and truly satisfied.

If you love a beautiful, heartfelt romance and characters that you'll embrace and root for, then check out 'Proposing for Preston.' It's a new favorite of mine.

Main Characters: Preston & Elise

I am new to the author and the series, so ,maybe some of this is patterned in other books an maybe it isn’t, but I have to first start with the synopsis. The synopsis makes you feel like you are going to see a couple scenes from the past and then flip forward 2 years for the main story. NOPE, you get have the book in the past and half in present. Which would have been ok, if I hadn’t been thinking the entire time, “Oh it is going to shift at any moment” So I am lamming that on the way the synopsis is written and moving on.

The first half of the book, was really good, their stories were captivating you wanted to read more. If felt a little too insta-love, but hey sometimes that is how it happens. Then instead of communicating they spend 2 years apart! UGH that is so frustrating! So then Fast Forward to present and Elise has some sort of light bulb go off and boom, she is in love again. So the meeting again and the story from then on was good, but a little overly emotional in my view. We needed more of their story in the second half not just their emotion.

Overall it was a decent read, but not my favorite read. 3.5 stars

(audiobook) I’m quite enjoying this series. After Brooks and his fear of commitment, we get Preston’s story and, unlike his brother, he couldn’t commit to the woman he loves fast enough. Even though his bride has more reservations…

Preston and Elise’s first meeting was adorable, and I loved how their relationship developed. He really took the time to seduce her, he supported her, helped her. While it happened quickly, their marriage wasn’t just a spur of the moment. Preston was very sure of his feelings, and even though Elise ran away, their marriage meant something to both of them. The whole book revolves around the idea of ‘timing’–sometimes, something happens not exactly at the right time, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t happen at all.

They both have to discover who they are and what they want, and that takes the whole second part of the book before they’re finally ready to fully commit to each other. It implies making sacrifices, but when it’s the right reason and the right time, they aren’t sacrifices anymore–I liked that idea.

I didn’t enjoyed the narration though. It was overly dramatic, and not always convincing.

Quickie

- Series: Blueberry Lane #9 – The Winslow brothers #2 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #second chance romance #virgin #celebrity #attorney #married couple
- Triggers: N/A
- Main couple: Elise Klassan & Preston Winslow
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + Preston is a devoted husband
- – the narrator sounded really too dramatic

Proposing to Preston is the second book in the Winslow Brothers’ series and all I can say is I’m swooning over Preston. This book is about first love but also about second chances, and it’s such a beautiful story. As much as I love the English brothers, I’m falling fast for the Winslow brothers.

Preston and Elise are a couple that you can tell are meant to be but yet the timing is never right for them. Preston is trying to pass the bar exam to become a lawyer and never thought he had time for love in his life. He had come close to becoming an Olympian and his dreams were shattered by an injury so he was trying to make a new life for himself, other than the one originally planned.

Elise has left her Mennonite family where she was strictly raised on her family’s farm. She was raised old-fashioned and had such a good heart, even though she was just raised to be plain and simple. But, when she falls in love with acting, she leaves it all to start fresh in New York City to follow her dreams. I truly admire her for that because who would leave the only life they had to start over alone in the big city.

Once Preston sees Elise on stage, even though the play is terrible, he can never forget her. I love seeing how mesmerized he was from the beginning and his love never falters for her. From that first meeting, you can feel how connected they are and what a whirlwind romance they have. But, the closer they get, Elise becomes frightened of losing herself in Preston and not in the life she had planned for herself.

When faced with the choice of Preston or her career, she chooses her career and leaves Preston completely devastated. Oh, how my heart broke for him. You could feel how shattered he was and I love how Katy brought out the deep emotions in this book. He was so pitiful and I even shed a few tears for him.

“I have one soul. No one had it before me and no one gets it when I’m gone. But in this life, I give it to you. You own me, Elise.” - Preston

Now, two years later, neither of them have moved on and Elise realizes she made a big mistake by leaving Preston, but is it too late? I could feel how remorseful she was and when tragedy strikes, Preston proves how wonderful he is by being by her side and taking care of her. He’s such a gentleman, and has one of the biggest hearts I’ve seen in a man in a long time. He’s caring and just seemingly perfect but can he trust Elise with his heart again?

“I’m completely in love with you, even more today than I was two years ago. I’d do anything to make you happy, to be with you, to belong to you, to know that you belonged to me.”- Elise

As they become closer, I’m so desperately wanting them to be together and anxiously I’m turning each page to see what is going to happen next. Being this is a second chance for them both, you can see how much they want to make it work and try to start fresh. Their love never failed throughout the entire book and that’s what made this so dreamy for me. I mean, who wouldn’t want a Preston in their life? He’s hot and sexy with a heart of gold. He’s definitely a one-of-a-kind.

As usual with Katy’s books, you have deep emotions along with a beautiful love story that will keep you interested throughout the entire book. There’s never a dull moment because you never know what to expect next. They are always full of twists that she so beautifully adds to the story. Proposing to Preston is well written and we also get more of the family along the way so you get to know them as well. I definitely fell for Preston myself and it’s another 5 star read for me. Bring on more Winslow brothers!

Proposing to Preston is another 5 star hit for author Katy Regnery.

In Proposing to Preston we meet Preston Winslow and Elise Klassan. They are perfect strangers who have one thing in common – the ambition and drive to fulfill their dreams. For Preston his dream is to become a successful lawyer. Elise’s dream is to see her name in bright lights on Broadway. So when they meet, falling in love is unexpected and is an unplanned distraction for their career goals. But they can’t ignore the chemistry and passion they feel for each other. As they make their relationship work with their busy schedules they fall deeper in love. But will love get in the way of their dreams? You have to read Proposing to Preston to find out!

What did I like about Proposing to Preston?

I fell in love with Preston and Elise. I found it easy to relate to their ambition and their need to find a balance between work and family. As with all of Katy Regnery’s books it is the characters that stand out. The Blueberry Lane Series is based upon the 5 families that live on Blueberry Lane. They are wealthy and have corporate and political influence, but that is just used as a background. The stories focuses on people going after their dreams and overcoming their personal fears or insecurities. Readers can easily form a connection with the characters and not get lost with the details of an extravagant lifestyle.

I also loved Preston and Elise’s love story. Elise comes from a Mennonite family. The lifestyle is simple and plain. And they don’t practice pre-marital sex. So the pace of their relationship is slow and perfect for Elise’s beliefs. Preston really cares for Elise so he respects her and is patient with her. Their whirlwind romance is passionate and heartbreaking. They both make mistakes in their relationship and I found it easy to agree with both of their points of views. This story stirred up different emotions that kept me entertained and unable to put down.

What didn’t I like about Proposing to Preston?

The only thing I didn’t like was for this to end. I didn’t want to say goodbye to Preston and Elise. But I know that we will get to see this couple in the next books of The Winslow Brothers series.

Katy Regnery is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is flawless. With every new book I am more impressed with her storytelling and creativity. I know that there will be romance, characters on a journey of self-discovery and a sense of family unity. The books of The Blueberry Lane Series are approximately 200 pages and are a perfect way to add a quick romance into your day.

This book meets the COYER Summer Scavenger Hunt #31 (read a book by an author you’ve previously read & given 5 stars – Bidding on Brooks).

Proposing the Preston is the second novel in the Winslow Brothers series from bestselling author Katy Regnery and turns the spotlight on the second oldest brother, Preston, and his love affair with Elise Klassen. The story is split into two parts with the events in New York followed by the events in Philadelphia two years afterward. When they first meet, Preston is in the middle of an internship in a law office while prepping for the bar exam while Elise is a struggling stage actress. When they see each other again after everything that happens in New York, both Preston and Elise have achieved success in their respective fields, but for all their professional accolades, their personal lives have languished. The blurb did not prepare me for where this story was headed, but it was more than worth the trip it took me on.

Preston Winslow is the kind of man who loves with his whole heart and would do absolutely anything for the woman who owns his heart. When he meets Elise Klassen, he knows there's something special about her and their love affair in New York changes both their lives. I'll admit that my affection was reserved solely for Preston, and it could be due to the occasional bouts of frustration I felt toward Elise. How could you not fall totally in love with Preston and want to spend the rest of your life with him, knowing how caring and supportive he was? Elise making the choice she did in New York was heartrending and her unexpected return to his life two years later had me thinking for a minute that she didn't deserve a second chance with him. But hey, if he made her work for it in New York, turnabout is fair play in Philadelphia.

I absolutely love how Katy Regnery made this a story of true love and how the lead characters find it with each other the first time around but allowed it to get away and fight for it when fate throws them in each other's path two years afterward. Readers get to experience both times with Preston and Elise and it's difficult to not feel the anticipation and frustration while they're in New York and then the hesitance and hope when they're in Philadelphia. I also like how this sequel and its predecessor highlight the role family plays in the lives of its characters. Bidding on Brooks set the bar high and there's no doubt in my mind that Proposing to Preston more than raised it for the next one in this fabulous series. Five out of five stars. ♥

Preston Winslow has pushed aside all the other male leads from the Blueberry Lane series to take the #1 spot in my heart. He was, downright, the absolute sweetest male character I have ever come across. I couldn't help but swoon over for him from the very beginning and ended up falling in love with him as much as Elise did.

At the end of Bidding for Brooks, we're left wondering who the mysterious woman from Preston's past was and in Proposing to Preston, we're treated with a tale of his whirlwind love affair after seeing Elise Klassan perform in an awful off-off Broadway play. Though the play was nothing to rave about, he was utterly captivated by her beauty and talent.

From there, their romance progressed rather quickly but timing of it all was an issues; ultimately leading to heartache. They loved each other. That much was apparent but they were at a time in their lives where they still had goals to accomplish so without malice intent, Preston was left with a broken heart. I felt so bad for him. Elise's character was so sweet that I couldn't be made at her for it. I understood where she was coming from but it was heartbreaking bone the less.

So to see them get a send chance in Part II, I was leaping for joy. I was in awe of Preston's devotion to Elise. His love never wavered for her and he leapt at the chance to prove it every time.

"What ever it is, I'll fix it for you, I'll get it for you, I'll slay it for you or buy it for you, or barter for it, borrow or steal. Tell me what you need sweetheart, and it's yours."

My heart literally melted into a puddle after I read those words. His love was so evident and true that I loved him more and more with each page.

Elise was an wonderful female character. Strong characteristics and an ambition that sometimes got in her way, but she had a true and kind heart. She came from a simple life and left it behind to chase her dreams only to be blindsided with an overpowering and intense love that she never once dreamed of. I couldn't fault her for her mistakes. She was such a sweet person and I was so thankful that she eventually came to her senses.

Katy Regnery has the ability to tell a story that has me falling in love with each and every one of her characters. I have yet to come across one that I couldn't resist. The stories are always heartwarming and fantastical that I've felt like I was the character...always. I live their heartache, happiness, pain, sorrow and love. She's an amazing storyteller.

**This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review**

I liked this story. I thought it was a quick, sweet feel good read. I've never read anything by Katy Regnery before and after this one, I can say that I would love to continue reading about The Winslow brothers. I want to meet all of them. But before I do that, let's talk about Preston.

PROPOSING TO PRESTON follows the turbulent romance of lawyer Preston Winslow and Broadway turned movie star, Elise Klassan. Their relationship starts rather instantly, and because of their own personal goals and aspirations, life gets in the way, which ends up leaving both of them with broken hearts for a few years. This story follows their path to healing and forgiveness... and second chances.

Like I said, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, it was fun, it was sweet. In my opinion, I would use this book as a nice palate cleanser -- read right after a really emotional book or even a not so great book. I think this read would give you enough of the feels.

The story, though quite predictable, was so fun to read. It was believable for the most part, and the characters were believable. I felt for both Preston and Elise throughout this book, even though I wanted to smack both of them at times, too.

The thing about this book that I really liked the most? Despite it being rather one dimensional, plot-wise? That Regnery decided to highlight the faults and wrongdoings of BOTH sides in the book. She demonstrated how a relationship that was founded on pretty much the quickest courtship known to man, can fall apart because of the actions of BOTH people, not just the man or the woman. Granted, how one character handles the situation in this book is a bit more extreme, in my opinion; I really appreciated how it's made know that BOTH Preston and Elise were at fault for the demise of their relationship.

Even though there are secondary characters, they don't do much for me. I was all about our two main characters this time around. But that's okay. A couple of the supporting characters were Preston's siblings and we know that they have their own books, so I'm almost glad that we don't get too much on any of them.

The progression of the story was well done and the development of the characters -- mainly Preston and Elise -- was really good, too.

Overall, I just had a lot of fun with this read. And I can't wait to read even more of the series!

I was given an ARC for an honest review and as in all my reviews I am ALWAYS honest and try not to be a spoiler.
Katy Regnery newest book "Proposing to Preston" is another wonderful story. The Winslows are another family that live in Haverford down the street from the English Brothers and the 2nd in the Winslows series.
This story starts in the past and explains why Preston is so peculiar in the other books... because he fell in love... Not just some girl who stole his heart. But for him it was "The Girl" the only girl for him and knew it the moment he saw her and only hoped he could get to know her.
Elise was raised as a simple girl on a farm in a Mennonite society, but had big dreams. She left her family to pursue her dreams of being an actress on Broadway. She moved to NYC and put herself through school and takes just about any part she can. She works incredibly hard and even though she would love to be able to share her successes with someone, she has no time for a relationship.. even if a beautiful green eyed, man of her dreams shows up.
Katy writes their story with such detail that at one point I had to put the book down because I was reading through tears. But that didn't last long because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT! Preston loves with everything he has, even though Elise resists his charm, she can't help but fall in love with him.... However love isn't easy, especially if she has never had a relationship and has had to rely on her own determination and drive to get where she is.... How can she give that up? Katy write this with descriptive eloquence that makes you feel like a fly on the wall watching it all happen.
I fell asleep with my kindle because I didn't want to stop reading. I was vested to this story by the end of the first chapter. I LOVED this book and often wonder while reading these stories if the characters really exist because Katy Regnery brings them to life with such ease, the reader will be drawn into the book easily too and will crave the next story just like me :)

What happens when Elise Klassan gets everything she’s ever dreamed of – a true love and a big break – all at once? A royally pissed off reader, that’s what!! Proposing to Preston follows the life and love of Elise, a ‘cute and beautiful’ Mennonite girl from Lowville, New York and Preston Winslow – the handsome up and coming lawyer and brother to swoon-worthy Brooks.

We first meet Elise and Preston two years prior when their courtship begins…and blossoms faster than a lilac bush. But just when things start to heat up, Hollywood calls and throws a big ‘ol bucket of ice water on their fire. Preston is heartbroken. Elise is blinded by a shot at her ‘big break’. Reader is PISSED!

Fast forward the story to present day. Preston is angry and alone. Elise is lonely, full of regret and marginally famous. She finally pulls her head out of her…well, you know…and accepts an acting job in Philadelphia (with the help of Jax Rousseau) and soon finds herself face to face with Preston – her one true love. When a family loss brings Preston and Elise back together again – can they move forward? Can Preston forgive Elise for leaving him in the dust? Can Elise explain her sudden move to Hollywood? Can Katy Regnery make this reader less pissed off?!

Clearly, this read brought out some emotions in me. Even my husband noticed. Halfway through the book he asked “Are you OK? You seem…angry.” I WAS! I was SO angry and Elise for leaving Preston. For being selfish and seeing fame instead of giving herself a chance to be a good partner, despite her fear of falling in love so quickly.

However, this is the reason I love Katy Regnery and her writing so darn much. She evokes emotion with the way she writes, the way she crafts her characters and their stories with precision and care. It’s like I gain new best friends each time I read one of her brilliantly constructed stories.

Proposing to Preston is another jewel in the Winslow brother’s crown. Although part of a “series”, this book can absolutely be read as a stand-alone (very quickly I might add). Be sure to add this to your summer reading list!

4.5 stars

This book actually broke my heart into pieces! What a sweet love story about finding yourself and finding your one true love–and having to choose between them. Awesome writing as always by Katy Regnery, who does emotional masterpieces like they’re a walk in the park! The depth of sorrow and regret, the hope for a second chance, and the maturity it takes to know when to take it slow–such a hard blend to make right. But, as I’ve always known–Katy’s got the touch!

Elise and Preston met when they were both on the brink of making it. Preston had lost his chance at the Olympics and was living his second dream of being a lawyer. Idling away the summer, working as an intern at a great sports and entertainment law firm while studying to take the New York and Pennsylvania bar exams, he’s transfixed by an actress he sees in a play. What is it about her that’s so captivating?

Elise has been following her dream of becoming an actress since she was sixteen, and now suddenly, she’s gotten the chance of a lifetime. Picked by a famous Broadway casting director to star in Ethan Frome, she’s thrilled–and also in love with the first man in her life who’s ever made her consider putting aside her career. But she just can’t do that, and when push comes to shove–she’s forced to make a decision that ends their budding relationship.

Devastated, Preston nearly destroys everything in his life.

Two years later, after Elise realizes the mistake she’s made, what is she willing to do to make things right with Preston. Has she gained the maturity to make their marriage a priority, and can Preston be forgiving enough to listen?

Regnery’s trademark tender, luscious storytelling sings with emotional depth and sensual heat, taking us on a roller coaster journey through first love lost and found again. Loved it! Thanks KR!

“Whatever it is, I’ll fix it for you, I’ll get it for you, I’ll slay it for you, or buy it for you, or barter for it, or beg, borrow, or steal. Tell me what you need, sweetheart, and it’s yours.”

Wow! I cannot stop thinking about this book. This is my first time reading Katy Regnery’s work and I was impressed. I had heard so much about her work and so I decided to give this one a try. It was just totally awesome.

This is the second book in the Winslow Brothers series and it can be read as a stand-alone. I knew from the start that this book was going to leave me emotionally drained. I was totally invested in the story and the characters. I loved everything about this story. I was hooked from the very first page and I found it rather difficult to put this one down. This is the kind of story that will make you laugh, cry and scream as you follow the characters on their emotional journey. The story flowed beautifully and the writing was engaging and riveting.

The first half of the book was slow but this was not necessarily a bad thing. I believe that this was deliberate as it allowed readers to get a better understanding of the characters as it relates to their fears, pain, doubts and sorrows. In the second half of the book the characters demonstrated growth and maturity. I like that they both acknowledged their mistakes and were not afraid to forgive thus opening their hearts for reconciliation.

It was easy to understand where Elise was coming from. I understood her fears and doubts when it came to making life changing choices. Her focus all along was on her career, but then Preston entered her life and through a wrench into her plans. She had no idea how to manage this change. Her actions are typical of persons who literally run scared when things don’t go the way they planned.

Proposing to Preston is a bittersweet second chance romance that depicts the importance of compromise, support and understanding within relationships. This is a must read and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Here’s the thing about Katy Regnery: Her books are consistently brilliant. I know when I pick one up, I’m going to be transported into lives that will make me feel like I am falling in love, over and over again in that dreamy, breathtaking way that is so addictive. Proposing to Preston was no exception.

Elise is an actress on the verge of her big break when Preston finds her at an off Off Broadway show. He is drawn to her in a way he can’t quite explain. They hit it off beautifully when they meet, and embark on a whirlwind, deeply romantic courtship. Then, as it does, life happens. The two are driven apart and must find their way back to each other. This book is like two romances in one – we get the first meeting, and then the second chance later on.

Proposing to Preston was just incredibly beautifully written. Sometimes it felt like reading poetry – not the confusing kind you hate, but the beautiful kind that takes your breath away. There’s a magical, fairy-tale like feel to the masterful way Preston and Elise’s story was told. It is, after all, a story of meeting your one true love, being torn apart, and then finding each other again to live happily ever after. It’s a tale as old as time, and yet here it is, fresh, engaging, and lovely.

As a loyal reader, I was delighted to see appearances by some English Brothers and of course Brooks and Jess. Ms. Regnery writes family relationships brilliantly and I always get a kick out of reading how the siblings relate to each other. The overall vibe is warm, loyal, gentle and humorous.

I loved everything about Elise and Preston’s story. It is by turns swoony, laugh out loud funny, adorable, sexy, heartbreaking, redemptive, and then all the way back to swoony. I simply cannot wait for the next one! ~ Shelly, 5 stars

Proposing to Preston is the first book I have read from author Katy Regnery and it definitely won't be the last. I found the characters to be interesting and easily identifiable with the world we live in. The plot moved along at a steady pace and I liked the way Ms. Regnery combined the past with the present. Do yourself a favor and have some tissues handy, because a few of the scenes will definitely cause you to shed a tear or two. Each book in this series is about one of four very wealthy brothers. Preston Winslow is the focus in this installment.

Preston's dream of making the Olympic rowing team came to an end when he injured his shoulder. So he had no choice but to go with his Plan B, an attorney that specializes in sports and entertainment. Preston meets the love of his life, Elise Klassan, at an off-off Broadway show, which she happens to be starring in. Elise left her Mennonite homestead in upstate New York to pursue a career in acting. She has a ton of talent and is discovered at the very same show Preston is attending for the second time. They fall madly in love very quickly, which results in marriage, a two-year separation and a homecoming for the record books.

I liked this book. Ms. Regnery writes with a lot of emotion and her characters completely reflect that style. The sex scenes are not only hot, they are loving as well. Overall, this is a solid contemporary romance and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Winslow Brothers series.

I received an ARC of this book from Rock Star Lit PR in exchange for an honest review.

Second chances. This is one of my favorite tropes. I always like reading about main characters who get another chance to be together. It doesn't matter to me why they didn't get it right the first time. I just like to read how they make things work this time.

Proposing To Preston is a bittersweet second chance romance. Elise, our heroine, broke Preston's heart. Of course, she knows she made the wrong choice. However, many people have made the same mistake she did. It's just that between love and career, a lot of people always go after what they worked so hard for, what they think is the only chance to reach their ambitions. Not many people can be so sure and so in love to let themselves and their dreams go and just trust in that love. Elise was like that.

Of course, the best part of the book has to be when they were reunited once again. I liked Preston as a hero. Sometimes, I even this he was too good for the heroine. However, that is the balance of life. Someone always has to be the one who gives more, forgives more, understands more. It's just nice to see that it's the hero who had his heart broken this time.

Katy Regnery is, no doubt, a talented author who, once again, manages to present us with a touching and wonderful story about love and dreams and second chances. The first book in this series was a good one. But this book was much better in story. Those Winslow brothers really know how to pick their women. This book is highly recommended.
