Data. Numbers. Facts.

That’s what I know.

I’m not great with relationships or men. I don’t even date. My entire sexual experience can be reduced to three nights of trauma.

Imagine my surprise when one of hockey’s best players with the worst reputation takes interest in geeky old me.

Tyson Murphy isn’t what I need in my life. He’s hung up on his ex-girlfriend and runs through women like he runs down opponents on the ice. The last thing he needs is a woman who is terrified of intimacy.

The last thing I want is to be is just another puck in his net.

We’re oil and water. Order and chaos. Logic and emotion. We shouldn’t mix.

So why won’t he stop pursuing me?

And why do I suddenly crave the one thing I’ve avoided my whole adult life?
Love.

I’m struggling with my feelings on this one. I’ve read all Alison’s books and really enjoyed them all (except broken play which is the worst trash I’ve ever read. You can see my review for all my thoughts on that dumpster fire). I was intrigued to hear that Tyson was getting a book. He wasn’t really a fixture in the series other than in the beginning of Rainfall; I hadn’t really thought about him since. But I was looking forward to his story. Tyson is both complicated and not at the same time. He plays the fuckboy and the pro athlete to keep up his image but truthfully, he’s dejected, heartbroken, and lonely. He sleeps around (an absurdly disgusting amount I may add) to soothe his broken heart and numb his pain without turning to drugs or alcohol. What I like about him was we didn’t get someone with childhood trauma or a commitment phobe as so many authors use as the foundation for male characters who run through women. Tyson came from a stable, loving, wealthy, home. He’s extremely close with his parents and his sister. He emulates his parents’ loving relationship and all he wants is to find that love. He thought he had it with Isla, but several years after Rainfall, he’s still heartbroken. Even going so far as to hire a SW who looks like her at a particularly low point.

This is all to say I really enjoyed how the author presented Tyson instead of giving us just another emotionally stunted pro athlete with commitment issues. He had depth. Kit was interesting. She’s endearing and intelligent. A loyal friend and a pure heart. She’s presented as neuro divergent, which did come through a bit in her personality. She’s of Native descent on her mother’s side. What was great about Kit was she truly didn’t care who Tyson was as a celebrity, she mouthed off to him the same way she did to everyone. She’s got a lot of trauma having been SA by her father’s friend when she was younger.

This brings me to what I truly despised about this book and what’s tanking an otherwise great story for me. At 29, Kit has zero sexual experience. None. She’s presented as almost asexual and I truly cannot read another fucking story where a raging fuckboy falls for the chaste virgin. I just fucking can’t. Yes, I understand she has trauma and she was SA, but to be honest, it didn’t land for me. It felt too contrived. Authors will find any excuse, any reason, not to write a sexually confident woman. Reading about him “teaching” her to be sexual was grossing me out. No. Just fucking no. We do not validate the Madonna/whore complex. We do not perpetuate the antiquated, misogynistic, patriarchal stereotype that a woman must be chaste to be worthy. Not a single one of the “whores” he sleeps with is good enough. They are not worthy. But the chaste virgin (and yea I’m going with that under these circumstances) is the one who’s good enough for him.

Just stop with this already. This would’ve otherwise been easily a 4 or 5 star story but I’m so sick of authors shoving it down our throats that only virgins are good enough. It makes me sick.

This was a surprisingly heartwarming, quirky, sexy, and deep romance!

This started out rough for me, with the hero (Tyson) still pining for his previous love. This may have been less annoying if I had read the previous book, but alas, I did not. I just feel very adverse to the hero pining over lost love. I'm just strange like that. Kit was a badass and she really wasn't expecting anything out of Tyson to start with, so it wasn't too big of a deal.. to start with, anyway.

As they spend more time together, their draw towards one another is very believable and I loved how Tyson slowly convinced Kit that he was really into her. It's why the 3rd act break up felt so off...

But I just couldn't hold it against this book much because his grovel and his protectiveness were melting me at every turn. He gives her space but then steps in when he knows she needs him. It was beautiful.

However, I liked that these two started as gaming buddies and friends. They were also neighbors and talked late at night when playing together. That was endearing and it made their connection believable and strong.

This was narrated in dual style by Mollie Stark and Robin Blake, who were excellent.

DNF. I started this book not reading the others in this series and just started at book 4. Cuz that’s how I do. I think the amount of names that were thrown at me and the backstories of each and every fucking one. LAME. It just kept going on and on about how she liked her life as a single girl and just bought a house. With a mortgage. And she needed help moving in. And she had to pay her mortgage. And she couldn’t wait to decorate her new condo. And she’s glad she’s putting down roots. On and on and fucking on!!! Jaysus fuck.

Too boring and I don’t wanna. DNF.

This story was so perfectly captured! An incredible addition to this heart gripping series! Alison gave voice to so many struggles so many of us are, or have been, through. This book was heartbreaking and beautiful, and it was handled with so much care.

When I found out this was Tyson's book, I was so curious to see what Alison had in store for us. And man, did she deliver! We got to see some of Tyson's tender side in Rainfall, however, this was NEXT LEVEL tender Tyson. We needed a Tyson book, and Alison set up his story perfectly in the first book! Getting to see the way he cared for Kit in such a patient way, with so much heart, could not have been captured any better.

Kit's story was heartbreaking and will be relatable for so many in so many ways. I know she was for me! I'm not sure I’ve ever related to a character like I did to Kit, with her busy brain and lack of trust in others. She’ll be someone so many readers connect with as well. Kit’s struggle through daily life, after everything she had been through, paired with her busy mind, was written perfectly.

Kit’s neurodivergent brain came through so well in Alison’s writing, which made her internal dialogue so much fun to read and relate to! Honestly, both characters’ inner dialogue stood out to me in the best way. Especially when Tyson was contemplating how to move forward with Kit and the feelings he had for her. Ahhh! I just loved it so much!

Neighbors to lovers is definitely one of my favorite tropes, and putting these two in each other's path in such a way was perfect! The banter they shared after witnessing each other’s antics at home was the start of the perfect love story for these two not to mention it allowed Tyson to quietly watch over her.

I couldn’t get enough of them, especially in audiobook! I can't wait to see what else Alison has in store for us with this series. I’m crossing my fingers so hard for a Hugo book… maybe Lottie and Hugo even???

Dual narration
Narrated by Mollie Stark and Robin Blake

The speed I’ve flown through these audiobooks is honestly insane, but I couldn’t put them down! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to listen to the fourth one before release. Robin and Mollie were the perfect Kit and Tyson! Alison has done an incredible job casting this series, and there hasn’t been a single one I haven’t loved.

Mollie is quickly becoming one of my favorite female narrators. The way she handles such sensitive topics with such a tender performance is absolutely beautiful, exactly what I hoped for with Kit’s story, and she nailed it. There were so many vulnerable moments between Tyson and Kit, and Mollie’s performance couldn’t have been more spot on.

This was my first Robin Blake audiobook, and it will definitely not be my last! His performance as this reformed playboy, tough hockey player with a heart so freakin’ tender, was brought to life perfectly. I’ll definitely be looking for more of his audiobooks in the future!

I’m honestly not ready to move on from this series and don’t even know what I’ll pick up after this. I’ve loved living in this world with these characters over the last few days, and I can’t recommend this series enough!

This was a super easy and quick read. I flew right thru it. It has so many sweet moments between Tyson & Kit while still dealing with tougher moments. The intimate scenes were pretty hot and completely unexpected from someone like Kit which was a nice surprise. I wasn't a fan of the conflict that was thrown in, but all in all I still loved the story

Alison Rhymes shows that opposites can attract and may ultimately not be that dissimilar in Whirlwind for a moving story.

Hockey star Tyson Murphy came off as a player but in reality he was drowning in his sensitivity. Hurt and floundering from who he thought was the one who got away Tyson spiralled into a void of meaningless encounters. It was the little things like his devotion, consideration and perceptivity to his neurodivergent sister and Kit's anxiety that proved that there was much more to Tyson than his pretty face and skill on the ice.

Kit Ashcroft was that rare and unique character that stood out not because she was lacking but because of all that she offered. Literally a genius Kit knew her boundaries yet struggled with her social cues. The sadness and trauma that initiated her personal isolation were even more pronounced when readers were given insight into them. One of Kit's greatest strengths was moving past her fears and striving for more, displaying a grit and bravery that made Kit her own champion.

Alison Rhymes did a fantastic job of seeing past the superficial traits of Tyson and Kit and emphasizing all the things that would normally bond a couple. From their mutual interest in gaming and shared friend pool to their intense physical attraction Tyson and Kit were an ideal match in many ways. This couple's ability to accept each other's differences and encourage each other to be their authentic selves was touching to watch. The friendship Tyson and Kit formed was as important to them as their physical connection showing the depth of their relationship.

Alison Rhymes writes the kind of stories that show her characters flaws and strengths in equal measures. This author's ability to sort through redeemable and irredeemable actions is commendable and often will give reader's pause in her shifting through grey areas. The force of Alison Rhymes' Whirlwind will leave her audience catching their breaths and clutching their hearts with love of this story.

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*While this story can be read as a standalone, reading the previous book in this series would enhance the overall reading experience of this work.*

I love this hockey team.

Newly traded Tyson Murphy is a hockey pro. But this hockey pro is now having to play with guys he played against. One being the husband of the woman he once loved. Someone he still misses (whew, had no idea about the poor guys longing!).

So when he meets Kit its kinda a shock to the gut. He really becomes smitten fast (which, come on, I loved). Kit is very, very far away from relationship material (she believes). After something very traumatic happened to her years ago, she hasn't tried.

This guy is a playboy, and his last relationship ended with him making a very public incident. Besides, she knows his ex. How could he move on from her?

Sometimes I just wanna read a book about a guy who really, really likes a girl. And gets to show his heart. And the way he stood up for her! He got to know her so well.

Please, please, please, please, more of this team!

REVIEW POST - Book 50 of 2025

Whirlwind by Alison Rhymes

Wow! I loved this one. And honestly? I didn't know how I was gonna feel about Kit and Tyson. On paper they shouldn't work, right? WRONG!!! In theory, it should be too messy, right? WRONG!!!

We get small glimpses into Kit in the other books in the series as she's close friends with the Cole family. So we learn little bits about her in Rainfall and Tempest. But not enough to fully lift the curtain. Which is kind of Kit all over to be honest. Keeps herself to herself, and only has a small circle.

We meet Tyson in Rainfall and we all know how that ends up. So it was great to see him back and develop a story with these two side characters.

And my god, I ate it up. I loved it. I think I loved this one as much as I loved Rainfall, for me personally. I love how Alison writes flawless, imperfect, messy journeys in love. There's screw ups and fall outs and arguments and pain sometimes. And that's so relatable. And it makes for a great read for me!

I really enjoyed this one and cannot wait for more from Alison!

I enjoyed this a lot, just as much as the first book in the series. Not only that, but the audiobook is brilliant. Mollie and Robin made the characters come alive while listening. I definitely need to check out more of their narration work!

I have to talk about Kit as a character first. I love her quirks, her beautiful, intelligent mind, the way she knows so many random facts, and how strong she’s become because of her past. I love reading about broken homes, struggles with past trauma, and finding strength and light on the other side even if it takes time to find it. The empowerment I felt listening to the intimate scenes between Kit and Tyson was honestly beautiful. Experiencing something she never thought she’d be able to enjoy, I could feel her emotions and that sense of relief, like a weight lifting off her shoulders.

I also need to praise Tyson that man had me melting. The way he checked in on Kit, communicated openly, and took everything at her pace was perfect. I’m honestly obsessed with these two. Their character development was spot on.

Lastly, I’m on Cillian’s side of the fence regarding why he blurted out that character’s name in front of Kit. I don’t understand or agree with his reasoning. Other than that, I absolutely loved this book. Looking forward to reading more of Alison’s work in the future.

I've been waiting for Tyson's book since I read Rainfall. Kit and Tyson are complete opposites but they work so well together. Tyson is an amazing support to Kit and she works through past trauma.

If was a decent read, but I’ll be honest it was a bit more cutesie than I anticipated… I wanted a bit of drama so I skipped form 58% to 75% and even the third act fell a bit flat
But the story was good so it’s just me being a whingy 😂

I absolutely Adored Ty and Kit! Both had emotional baggage but from different places. Kit thinks she's broken and not worthy of love. Tyson is haunted by what he thought was love with an ex and he's now playing for the hockey team her husband plays for. 😬 That could have been so messy but it is written really well. I love how close Ty is to his sister and understands nuerodivergence which helps him understand Kit better. She spends alot of time closed off to anyone but her bestie but he becomes a safe space. I really enjoyed reading their journey. There's some deep trauma but it is written in a compassionate way.

I absolutely love everything this author puts out. This one is no different. I really like Tyson from another book from this series. I am glad that he got his HEA. Then there is Kitt, who has some unique qualities. You can't help but fall in love with her. What makes Tyson sworn worthly is that he is so understanding and knows exactly what Kit needs. He doesn't push her into anything and allows her to control most of the narrative. Tyson has a few issues of his own, which we see how it affects his path. Honestly, I believe this is my favorite couple so far.

Whirlwind is book four in the Seattle Blades series by Alison Rhymes. This time we have the romance between one of the hockey players Tyson Murphy and his neighbour Kit Ashcroft. If you have read the previous books then you will already know both these characters. I really liked Tyson in Rainfall #1 so was looking forward to his story. This is a slow burn, emotional journey as they battle their issues while navigating their relationship. There is past trauma and heartbreak to address as they learn to trust each other and heal together.

“Life can be a whirlwind. I’m glad we’re weathering it together.”

Kit is a statistician and has just started her new job with The Seattle Blades to help the team with player analysis. She met her best friend Willa Cole at college and it changed her life because the Coles have made her part of their family. She has bought herself a house as Willa now lives with Zander and Damian (Flurry #2). She likes a quiet life with no drama, has no interest in men and doesn’t think a romantic relationship is part of her future. As a neurodivergent person she’s an over-thinker, gets anxious and has to cope with her triggers and trauma.

Tyson has suddenly been traded to the Blades. He’d loved playing for his hometown and living near his family especially as he adores his sister Lottie. The move has been hard because his ex Isla is married to the Blades captain. He’d thought he was going to have a life with Isla and her daughter Sadie but now Cillain has all that he wanted. He took it badly, gained a bad reputation and fell into some bad habits. Now the constant reminders of what he lost and his heartache are threatening to pull him down again.

Tyson moves into a friend’s house and finds out Kit lives opposite with her funny dog Nightmare. She sparks his interest and they exchange some banter much to the amusement of Willa. His morning yoga routine becomes a voyeuristic event for both of them. They start spending time together and everything changes for him as he falls for her. He knows she’s special but doesn’t feel deserving or good enough for her. His sister is on the spectrum which makes him so understanding of her issues and non judgemental. He is so sweet constantly reassuring her and being her safe space. He loves her awkwardness, intelligence and notices her ticks and triggers.

“Loving her is the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Losing her would be the hardest.”

Kit is shocked by her attraction to him and is terrified of having someone in her life. She’s taken with how patient and kind, caring and thoughtful he is towards her. She thinks they can only be friends but slowly Willow persuades her to take a chance as he a good guy. She tells him about her Native American heritage, family and some of her childhood trauma. She’s never dated anyone so Is she brave enough to try with Tyson? Can she trust him enough to move forward and leave the past behind. Can she heal and live a fuller life with him?

The author touches on some serious issues in a compassionate and respectful way. Kit has been through a lot and as her past is revealed, some of the events could be triggering for some readers.
It was great seeing Sadie again and the rest of the Blades team. I was fascinated by the way Kit questions everything and felt for her when she sometimes struggled to express her feelings. Tyson tried so hard to be exactly the person she needed and they were definitely perfect for each other.

Whirlwind is exactly what its title promises a powerful, emotional storm that sweeps you up and doesn’t let go. This story explores trauma, healing, and the beauty of finding love in unexpected places, told through two flawed yet deeply human characters who feel wonderfully real. Alison Rhymes has this rare ability to write about imperfection with honesty and compassion her characters aren’t polished, but that’s what makes them unforgettable.

This was my first book by Alison Rhymes, and I was genuinely impressed. It’s the fourth in the Seattle Blades series, but it works perfectly as a standalone. The emotional layering, humor, and neurodivergent representation were handled with so much care. What really stood out to me was how Rhymes refuses to romanticize trauma; instead, she writes through it with tenderness, wit, and raw truth.

The Story

Kit Ashcroft lives in a world of data, structure, and predictability because that’s where she feels safe. Numbers make sense. People don’t. She’s neurodivergent, analytical, and scarred by a past that’s left her terrified of intimacy. Then there’s Tyson Murphy, the notorious hockey player with a bad-boy reputation and an ex he can’t quite shake.

On paper, they’re opposites: she’s control, he’s chaos. But underneath that surface lies something magnetic. Kit and Tyson slowly build a friendship rooted in understanding, and watching them find safety in each other is the heart of this story. Their connection isn’t just romantic it’s healing. Alison Rhymes does an incredible job exploring how love doesn’t fix trauma but helps carry it.

🎧 Narration

Narrated by Mollie Stark and Robin Blake, this audiobook is a standout. Mollie Stark embodies Kit’s quirky brilliance and emotional nuance flawlessly her delivery captures every flicker of vulnerability and stubborn defiance. Robin Blake brings Tyson to life with depth and warmth, balancing his rough edges with unexpected tenderness. Together, their voices harmonize beautifully, enhancing every beat of the story. It’s authentic, heartfelt, and deeply immersive truly phenomenal work from both narrators.

What I Loved

✔️ Authentic neurodivergent representation handled with care
✔️ A heroine who’s brilliant, blunt, and beautifully real
✔️ A broody MMC who turns out to be gentle and patient
✔️ Emotional depth balanced by humor and chemistry
✔️ A friendship-based romance that blossoms into love

Tropes & Vibes

✔️ Sports Romance
✔️ Grumpy x Sunshine (in reverse)
✔️ Neurodivergent FMC
✔️ Trauma & Healing
✔️ Smart Girl / Jock Dynamic
✔️ Slow Burn
✔️ Found Family & Friendship
✔️ Witty Banter
✔️ Emotional Growth

Final Thoughts

Whirlwind is the kind of story that sneaks up on you it’s tender, intelligent, and unexpectedly funny, while also being deeply emotional. Alison Rhymes crafts a love story that doesn’t shy away from darkness but finds beauty in the mess of being human. Kit and Tyson’s relationship is proof that love isn’t about fixing each other it’s about feeling safe enough to stay.

If you love romances that balance vulnerability with strength and deliver emotional payoff with heart, Whirlwind will absolutely steal your breath.

Tyson Murphy and Kit

Tyson🏒
one of hockey’s best players a Goalie with the worst reputation.
He’s seemingly hung up on his ex-girlfriend, which is more like having a hard time getting over her, the one he has regrets about, but now after the break up and the constant run in with his ex, he runs through women like he runs down opponents on the ice.
Until his neighbor starts to get his attention.
Kit Ashcroft. Geeky beautiful gamer who is taking over his thoughts and shoving his ex out of his mind.

🌸

KIT🎮
A glasses wearing geek by nature and doesn’t date a lot since past trauma, went out with her best friend and was surprised when Tyson Murphy took an interest in her.
Data. Numbers. Facts. That’s what she knows , so last thing she wants is for him to be interested in her.
It’s rare that she would be interested or feel any attraction towards Tyson.. but she does.

🌸We’re oil and water. Order and chaos. Logic and emotion. We shouldn’t mix.🌸

Only Kit is no ordinary girl he can’t help but be intrigued by her.. and Kit .. is perplexed by her attraction to Tyson, which is a first for her.
But now Kit is consumed by thoughts of Kit and is getting warnings from everyone about hurting Kit, which is far from how much he’s feeling for her.. but he know Kit is special just like his sister.
Special sweet.

But Listen.. 🎧💭
a bit of a struggle at first listening.
I felt this was one book that would have been better told in duet narration. It however eventually began to pick up, and I started to enjoy listening to this story that’s written by an author new to me.

Molly Stark highlights Kit’s quirks and unique personality wonderfully. And Robin Blake embodies the character Tyson whenever he was communicating with Kit and brought out the personality of other characters seamlessly, he was fantastic.
They worked for these characters in this story and I loved it.

💬
Jumped in this blind, as this is book four.. and these Characters were mentioned in previous books, but I truly enjoyed listening to this quirky story and recommend you add it to your TBR.

💥ALC AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

💫 Whirlwind
Seattle Blades • Book 4️⃣
By: Alison Rhymes @alisonrhymes

🎙️ Audio narrated in dual by: Mollie Stark and Robin Blake

Oh my goodness, Alison! Whirlwind has been my most anticipated book of the year. Even though the KU and paperback versions were released in August, my heart is with the audiobooks in this series. And WOW! It exceeded my expectations.

I absolutely adore this series! The found family these characters have formed, the challenges they face, and the love they pursue are all so special, and Tyson Murphy and Kit Ashcroft brought all of that to life in Whirlwind.

Tyson and Kits’ story has so many beautiful dynamics. Past traumas, raw emotions, epic found family, flirting desires, honest conversations, and deep realizations, all while allowing these moments to unfold on their own terms. I was really touched by the way these two supported each other. Tyson, who had just moved to a new town, a new hockey team, and was dealing with a past he wasn’t sure he’d fully let go of, Kit was there to help him understand what those feelings meant. Even though Kit had a great support system, letting Tyson in alone was a big deal, and he never took it for granted.

Mollie Stark and Robin Blake did an incredible job narrating. The moment I heard Robin’s voice, I knew he was the perfect Tyson. Full of the youthful hockey playboy sarcasm in his tone yet, deep in his self-awareness, Robin’s voice pushed through barriers to express guilt, regret, longing, love, flirtiness, and the chill, giddy/goofy side I absolutely adored in Tyson.

Mollie gave so many beautiful emotions as Kit. The daily anxiety that Kit dealt with created a whirlwind of thoughts in her mind, and listening to Mollie articulate all of Kit’s thoughts and nervousness allowed us to connect with her on an honest level. Kit is smart and independent, and although she is surrounded by amazing friends, she has past traumas that make her more reserved and cautious. Mollie was really able to make us feel the gravity of what she has been through while also voicing her bravery and resilience in overcoming them.

Whirlwind is the fourth book in the Seattle Blades series, but it can also be read as a standalone. My own personal recommendation is starting with the first book, Rainfall (because it’s the foundation of everything and a personal favorite),but also these characters have a history with the characters in Rainfall.

I could go on and on about this series, which I absolutely love, and how I devoured this book, but I’ll stop here and simply say, READ THIS SERIES!

Author Alison Rhymes has us following the story of Tyson Murphy and Kit Ashcroft, both of whom we met in the beginning of the series within book one Rainfall.
Tyson who was shown as having a relationship of sorts with Isla and Kit who is best friends with Willa.

So it needs to be said the story may have had its ups and downs for me, but that’s not to say I didn’t still find it to be a good read overall.

The ups came from not only getting to know and learn more about Tyson and Kit, as there was much to delve into when it came to exploring their characters and story.
Particularly Tyson, given the part he played in Isla and Cillian’s story Rainfall and the aftermath of it.

The development of Tyson and Kit's relationship played a major role to the overall story, as it’s what paved the way for the unravelling of the layers to them both.
But in this case particularly Kit as she was very much unknown to us. Then again with the walls she had erected around herself, it was to be expected.
However through their journey, author Alison showcased the lowering of said walls throughout the budding relationship that began to build. Allowing Tyson and Kit to slowly but surely get to know one another, all the while helping one another to evolve and grow. With Tyson helping Kit come out of her shell.

Although the book is fiction, I loved that author Alison included diversity that led to real life issues and subject matters, of which are very much happening in the real world.
It’s what brought a sense of realism and genuineness to the story. Courtesy of what we learn about Kit and her family.

Through the subject matters and real life issues as well as the narrative around their character development, the emotions did flow out from time to time from the feels to be had.
Sometimes leading to emotionally charged moments, particularly from all that Kit faced, endured and dealt with throughout.

Other than the story feeling a little slow when it came to the pace, which was one of my downs of the story.
My main critique was wishing there had been some more drama and excitement.
To me it seemed to be lacking in that department, particularly when compared to the other books in Seattle Blades series.

All in all, Whirlwind made for a good read with quite a meaningful storyline that touch on very important, yet very real matters when it came to the storytelling of Tyson and Kit's story that author Alison Rhymes delivered.

🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧

This story was a gut-punch for me. It didn’t start out that way, but it not so slowly became that and honestly, there’s no other way to tell a story such as this one. This isn’t just a typical romance journey. It’s a romance journey that wouldn’t be possible without another story, the story of Kitpu, our MFC. Her story, her growth and development, her past, present and future, these were all something that needed to be intertwined with “the romance” in order for “the romance” to even happen. And her story … that was the gut-punch. Then, her story and their story swirled together to make an incredible story of acceptance, understanding, patience, open mindedness, love, family and friendship.

There’s a whole bunch of reviews out there already telling you all about what this story is about but not enough of them (imo) focus on the feelings the reader has to navigate as they experience Whirlwind. So I’m going to tell you about mine. This is a character driven story. To me, that means the individual is more important than the whole, as they say. The “whole” here would be the sport and the romance. Those two aspects didn’t mean a thing to me. Kit and Tyson were a whole other thing. They meant everything. They were everything for me. I know I already mentioned how important Kit’s growth was to this story, but Tyson’s growth was important as well. No, it wasn’t as emotional for me, but it happened, and it was impactful because without it, we wouldn’t have had a romance. I felt this story to my bones. I connected with everything deeply. The circumstances portrayed in this story were laid out for us respectfully and with care. I felt it. Both Kit and Tyson were multi-layered characters, and the author took the time to represent and peel-back, as needed, every single one of those layers to make for a more impactful story. Again, I felt it.

I was rooting for these two from the very beginning. They felt like they were kismets to me. Tyson’s trade was by happenstance, but I believe everything happens for a reason. Read this story and find out why! :)

🎙️The dual narration performance by 🎤Mollie Stark & Robin Blake🎤 was perfect for me. They both did a tremendous job bringing Kit & Tyson to life. Honestly, I don’t know that I’d have felt so much of this story had I been reading it and that’s all on them. They were perfectly cast for these roles and just brought me so much joy! WELL DONE!

This was the first book I read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Based on some of the negative reviews I was a little unsure if I would enjoy this book, but I kept an open mind and I’m glad I did.

I was an uncomfortable with Tyson’s previous relationship with Isla, one Kit’s close friends (sister to her best friend), and his deep dive into using one-night stands to numb himself. Tyson and Kit running into each other as neighbors and slowly becoming friends helped show his growth and changes over time. They had some frank conversations discussing his revolving door and his past relationship with Isla. Tyson’s conversations with his teammates who were friends with Kit and very protective of her also shed light on how he was developing as a character. It also helped that Isla wasn’t on page for much of the story, as she only appeared for a few scenes.

Kit was an independent and very intelligent neurodivergent woman who had experienced little happiness until she meet her best friend Willa, and was included into the Cole family. Kit has some similarities to Tyson’s sister, Lottie, who is also his best friend. I got the impression he initially felt comfortable with Kit due to this similarity. Overtime his friendship with Kit developed into more because he had built a connection with her and he had started to believe he was open to more than just emotionless sex. Her past forced him to go slow and allow Kit to gain confidence and a feeling of safety around him.

The story had a surprising amount of humor and emotional depth. At the beginning of the book, Kit has just started a new job with the team and then other than a mention of the statistics program she developed for the players and coaches to use, her work with the team is never mentioned again.

I enjoyed the book and the writing held my attention from beginning to end. The story had some angst, but it wasn’t super angsty and the growing pains Tyson and Kit faced were realistic. The two characters communicated and openly shared their vulnerabilities.

I received a free ARC from the author and Wordsmith Publicity; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

- hockey romance
- neighbors to lovers
- neurodivergent & Native American FMC
- reformed playboy
- opposites attract
- found family
- 🌶️🌶️.5/5
- dual pov
- dual narration by Mollie Stark and Robin Blake

Whirlwind is a very pleasant surprise. This is more than just a hockey romance. It’s about a neurodivergent FMC whose only sexual experience was non-consensual. She’s just moved into her first home and started a new job as the hockey team’s data analyst when the team’s latest transfer (a playboy, no less) moves in next door.

With a neurodivergent sister, Tyson understands Kit and ensures she's always in control, letting her set the pace for their relationship. Kit is skeptical that someone like him could be genuinely interested in her (nerdy and inexperienced as she is), but his flirty, inquisitive nature is irresistible. Tyson proves she is all he wants.

The character development in this book is wonderful. Kit grows in confidence and self-awareness, facing past trauma and exploring her indigenous heritage while uncovering what really happened to her mother.

Tyson’s depth and emotional growth as he learns what it truly feels like to love someone make him a fully rounded hero. Their relationship is as much about trust, honest conversations, and emotional intimacy as it is about chemistry and heat (and oh, there's some delicious heat 🔥).

Just when everything seems perfect, drama interrupts the HEA (not complaining 🤭). But Kit's found family steps up in the most heartwarming way, and we see her confront her father and find justice through Tyson.

The audiobook is excellent. Mollie Stark shines as Kit, perfectly handling her nuances and quirks with both vulnerability and deadpan humour. Robin Blake is new to me, but his male narration is strong, and his female voice is impressive. I would listen again in a heartbeat.

Alison sets the scene perfectly for new readers, so you can enjoy this as a standalone, but now I'm obviously keen to dive into the rest of the series.

Thanks so much to Must Love Audio for the early copy.

Tyson Murphy has it all: a model’s face, a sculpted abs and women who come and go. But in his heart, there’s only room for one, the one he shouldn’t want, the one who found true love elsewhere. His greatest heartbreak left him shattered, and moving back to the same city as his ex means risking falling into the abyss all over again.

Then comes Kit, his new neighbor. Beautiful, smart, and with something special that immediately grabs his attention, something Tyson hasn’t felt in a long time. But Kit knows exactly who her new neighbor is: she’s close friends with his ex and knows all the details, including how much Tyson was in love with her.
thanks ti Alison and wordsmithpublicity for the ARC Copy.

Kit works with numbers, she does the stats for the Blades hockey team, the same team Tyson plays for. Numbers are her safe haven, while people throw her off balance. A difficult past has left her trust fragile, and opening up to a guy feels nearly impossible. Especially when there’s the risk of always being the second choice.

But Kit is anything but a second choice. She’s special, witty, sharp, and capable of pulling anyone into her whirlwind. And Tyson? He falls right in the whirlwind with both feet. Running away isn’t an option anymore: now that he’s found Kit, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to keep her.

Alison Rhymes takes us back to the Seattle Blades with a heartfelt and tender story that show important topics like ADHD and violence without weighing down the narrative. With honesty and sensitivity, she introduces us to the unique world of neurodivergent people, while weaving in a love story that’s passionate, funny, and just the right amount of spicy.

Kit is brilliant and sharp, Tyson is the unexpected golden boy, patient, determined, and completely smitten. Together, they create hilarious, touching moments and a romance that’s sweet, addictive, and unforgettable from the very first page.

“Falling in love with the right person should always be a whirlwind.”

Whirlwind, the fourth installment in the Seattle Blades hockey series, delivers a deeply emotional journey with Kit and Tyson at its heart. If you've read the earlier books, you've already met these two—and while they might have seemed like an unlikely pair, their connection in this story is nothing short of beautiful.

“You’ve been oxygen to my lungs. You are the most refreshing thing to ever stumble into my life. You make me think from a different perspective and contemplate things I’ve never considered. You’ve made me a better man in mere weeks.”

Tyson, newly traded to the Seattle Blades, initially gave me pause as a romantic lead. I worried that Kit might not hold all of his heart. But Tyson quickly proved me wrong. He was unwavering in his devotion—strong, gentle, protective, and endlessly patient. The kind of man who would burn the world down just to stand beside her. He wasn’t just a hero; he was her hero.

“Tyson is always so calm, a balm for me every time my edges start to fray.”

Kit is a compelling blend of strength and vulnerability. Her past left deep scars, but she rose from the wreckage with quiet resilience—even if she couldn’t see it in herself, others could. She struggled to express her emotions, yet Tyson always seemed to understand her unspoken needs, helping their relationship grow with tenderness and care.

“Until the day I f*cking die, I’ll fight for Kit Ashcroft.”

Whirlwind is a heartfelt, emotionally rich story that tackles painful yet important themes. The pacing is spot-on, allowing Kit and Tyson’s friendship to blossom naturally while slowly revealing the mystery of Kit’s past. Their bond is powerful, unshakable, and undeniably meant to be.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Whirlwind is the explosive, tender, beautifully imperfect romance between Kit Ashcroft and Tyson Murphy. Whirlwind is hockey, longing, love, heartbreak, mess. Whirlwind is chaos that heals and two damaged people falling, colliding, toppling into each other. Kit Ashcroft is neurodivergent, a genius at stats, a disaster with people, safe with numbers and haunted by a past she can’t outrun. Tyson Murphy just signed his trade to the Seattle Blades, bringing with him heartbreak, regret, a reputation and the persistent sense he’s lost more than he’s ever gained as the boy everyone used to love. When Tyson moves in across the street from Kit, all their walls, insecurities, fears, angers come crashing into each other and neither of them are sure how to breathe, how to live, how to hope with someone who knows all the things they’ve never wanted to say out loud. The thing I loved most about this story was how Alison Rhymes writes about imperfections, trauma and neurodivergence with so much care; it’s not cute, it’s not quirk. These are parts of Kit that cause her pain, that hold her back, but they’re also a part of her and make her a thousand percent her. There’s a kind of awkward, stumbling, messiness to this slow burn that’s utterly perfect. Anxiety, past hurts, miscommunications, loyalty, friendship, that moment where maybe the person who sees you in all your rough edges is the only one you want. It’s hockey romance, found family, redemption, emotional hardwiring, and YES, there’s sparks and burn for days and all through those cold Seattle nights. If you’re looking for romance that doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff, but also brings softness and heat and hope—I can’t recommend Whirlwind enough and it’s one of the best books in the Seattle Blades series so far.

I’ve been with this author since her debut. She has zero hesitation in pushing the limits of comfort zones, she makes you feel her characters so very much, and has the ability to make you love, despise, and then either love again or at least understand why the character was so boneheaded. This, though? I think I devoured Kit and Tyson’s story faster than anything she’s written. And I mean ANYTHING.

First, Kit. Oh my gawd, I love her. We are so easily given her inner workings that her feelings will seem as though they’re your own. When the carelessly distracted moment happens, your head will try to say it’s fiction, but your heart will break with her. Your eyes will tear up, you’ll want so badly for that moment to have not happened, and you’ll be 100000% Team Kit if you weren’t already there. But then…Tyson shows up. He doesn’t back down. He lets Kit know he’s on her timeline and he’s not about to let he experience the horridness of past meeting present alone. Even if she doesn’t speak to or acknowledge him, he’s got her back.

Which brings me to Tyson. I liked him already. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to say he’s truly all in. And I am so glad to say that he beat every expectation in spectacular fashion. He knows when he’s done wrong. He communicates. He listens and does the work. Most importantly, he is the safe space and the soft landing that Kit both needs and deserves. Even with distraction causing angst, I cheered for him. He’s really that human and realistic that you’ll find yourself loving him and believing his heart also.

All I can say is holy wow. Check the trigger warnings on the author’s site if you’re worried, but know that she’s going to make it all okay in beautiful form in the end.

Kit is not your usual girl. She looks numbers, data and facts. But human interaction, dating, men and relationships. Yeah, that’s not her forte. So imagine her surprise when her new neighbor Tyson Murphy shows interest in her and even flirts with her. Tyson - NHL player on and especially off the ice and ex of one of her closer friends. Tyson is trying to move on from his ex with a lot of women. But then Kit comes into his life and suddenly he’s wondering if he ever loved his ex like he thought he did.

Whirlwind is book 4 of the Seattle Blades series. It’s a standalone in his interconnected series and you can absolutely read it independently.

I started this series with book 3 (Tempest) which I absolutely loved. Nevertheless my expectations for Whirlwind weren’t really high. Not that I thought that the book wouldn't be good or anything, but because from the blurb I thought it would be this funny, cute hockey romance. And it was, but also so much more. The story is not only cute but also incredibly fascinating because of the main characters. I absolutely adore Kit. She's incredible, funny, smart and the toughest woman there is. I could relate to her so much and I was deeply moved by her past. I loved the way she grows throughout the book. Tyson is also an amazing character. I love his patience, his understanding. He’s smart, funny, loyal and just incredible. Real book boyfriend material. I loved their interactions, them getting to know each other and with that themselves. I enjoyed their interactions so much. And I loved that we got to meet the other Blades players again. I can’t wait for the next story. This book is an absolute highlight of mine this year. You don’t wanna miss this. 🫶

I didn’t discover Alison Rhymes until last year, but have since devoured every book she has written! I have love for her Seattle Blades series though as I love hockey and her books so it just checks every box for me. So as soon as she gave us the release date for Whirlwind, I was beyond excited. This book absolutely lived up to and even exceeded my hopes for Tyson and Kit’s story.

My absolute favorite thing about this book though was Tyson. I loved him and Kit together, and they were just so great for one another. But Tyson was on another level. His sweetness and patience throughout this story is what had me absolutely captivated. He is everything you look for in a hero, and I just couldn’t get enough of him.

Beyond just Tyson though, this world and this story especially is just one I never want to leave. Alison has a way with words that just draws you in from the very first page and keeps your attention long after you have finished the last. I have been itching for Tyson’s story since the beginning of this series and we first met him (IYKYK). I just always felt like he deserved to have his very own HEA, and I knew it would take someone special after everything and I couldn’t have been happier with how this one went! While Whirlwind can be read as a standalone, each book in this series is phenomenal and I highly recommend them. I also feel like you get so much more insight and satisfaction here having seen everything that has transpired from the start of the series to this book. There are so many amazing characters you get to meet along the way and their growth is something I've loved experiencing as a reader.

Whirlwind is one of my favorite books this year, an absolute must read!

Whirlwind is book 4 in the Seattle Blades hockey romance series from author Alison Rhymes. This can be read as a standalone however due to some minor characters and some overlapping storylines i would recommend reading in order. This book gives us the story of Tyson and Kit.

Our FMC, Kit… well I enjoyed her character a lot. You can’t help but root for her. First she’s the nerdy.. gamer and numbers girl, who doesn’t like to people except for a select few… I can totally relate to that . Secondly, you feel for her. I’m not gonna give details but there are times your heart breaks for her after everything she has been through and dealt with. And to watch Tyson just constantly show up for her. He doesn’t t let her push him away. He wants to be there for her at her speed.

Tyson, who we originally met in book 1, Rainfall has just been traded to Seattle Blades hockey team from his previous team. He’s away from his sister and family for first time in his career. Tyson is the type of guy you can’t help but root for. Yeah.. he has his mess ups just like everyone but he admits he was wrong and does better. He becomes Kit person and a person she feels safe with, which she hasn’t had a lot in her life. I absolutely adored him for Kit.

Now I will say that this book was a bit slow burn for me. The beginning moved a bit slow however about 40% into the book it really picked up the storyline and pace. All in all this was a solid addition to the Seattle Blades series.
