Sung Ho isn’t exactly the kind of person you’d expect to settle down for a quiet life in the Korean countryside. A young man in his twenties who spent his entire career serving in the military, Sung Ho is also a single father to a baby girl his ex-girlfriend suddenly pawned off on him. Having grown up without a family of his own, he leaves behind his familiar military life and moves to the small village of Nuldongmae, hoping for a fresh start for himself and his daughter.

Jobless and alone, Sung Ho has barely started to settle in when he finds himself butting heads with Kwon Haebeom, a handsome but grumpy local who accuses him of stealing from his store. Sung Ho hopes to never run into the man again—but he's soon shocked to discover that Haebeom is more than just some random jerk. He’s actually the head of the village! Can Sung Ho move past their dismal first impression and allow Haebeom into his life?

I really have been wanting to find a manhwa that speaks to me, because so far the ones that have caught my eye have been misses for me -- and I'm so happy to say that this one fit the bill SO perfectly and was a total win!! I had such good hopes for it that I went ahead and blind bought it, and I don't regret it one bit, I'm very satisfied with this purchase!

I thought it was really satisfying that this was a story about two adults (28 and 36 years old) dealing with adult priorities, like raising a child, finding a job, being a community leader, et cetera. It really spoke to me. I also think it's really funny that the 36-year-old love interest thinks our 28-year-old protagonist is way too young, like a baby, because that's actually so real. I don't often see many books (though I mostly read manga) talk about how young your 20s seem to anyone over the age of 30, because a lot of times in books like these characters that are 20s-30s are treated like they're ancient. This just was grounded in realism in ways like that, and I found it so refreshing and lovely.

The story was just great. It's been a while since I've read something that's genuinely made me squeal aloud and kick my feet-- but this book seriously did the trick for me! I thought the growing feelings and partnership that these two display is so wholesome. And it's so fun to have that classic tsundere character doing tsundere things in the character of the love interest. You can tell he's such a good guy despite all of his tsun. I really grew to love all the characters through this volume and already feel itchy for more.

In terms of criticism, my usual criticism for manhwa stands. I think the art needs a bit of work, especially anatomically. This book feels a little bit caught in old-school yaoi stylings, with excessively muscled characters with triangle-shaped torsos and smallish heads. It's not bad -- in fact, it has a certain charm to it, in a way -- but I do find it a tiny bit distracting. One thing I also don't like about manhwa or webtoons in general is the usage of Clip Studio Paint 3D assets, because the mixing of 3D assets and 2D drawings just doesn't look good to me, and I find it incredibly distracting as well, but in a bad way.
However, I know it's difficult to hire a background artist and even more difficult to learn how to draw backgrounds well, so I empathize (as a fellow artist)... but for a product that readers are paying money for, I do wish the usage of assets was less, or at the very least a) traced or b) better incorporated.

On a similar note, the love interest's design doesn't speak to me very strongly. I do think he's adorable, especially when he's chibi or in his funny sea lion form (which always made me grin and giggle), and of course I find him immensely charming as a character, but his bangs and blue eyes... I just don't like them much. I think if I had one thing I would change about this, I would change the way he looks a bit. His forehead-covering bangs paired with how insanely muscular he is just makes for a funny and weird combo for me.

But even with these criticisms in mind, the story was such that the things that bothered me didn't bother me all that much, and I still had a really great time. And it's true what everyone is saying... the baby is so goddamn cute. If you're going to read for anything, read for the baby!!

Edit: Oh, and I also want to note the quality of the physical book. I think another thing that drives me away from print manhwa is that I don't like the feel of heavy, glossy paper. It's heavy to carry around and feels uncomfortable when I'm reading (for no particular reason I think, other than I'm not used to it), and although the colors are quite vibrant, I don't like the look and feel of it for a novel-length-and-sized book like this one.
This print manhwa has a matte finish that I find much more enjoyable, both in the way it feels and the way it looks. As a product, I would recommend this, though I'm always very impressed with Seven Seas book designs and their offerings. That's all!

Imagine that green flag unconditional love was real? This story will make you believe in it, that’s for sure.

Orphan Sung Ho finds himself back in Korea after leaving years before to join up with the US Army, after his ex girlfriend leaves a newborn at his door, he leaves the army and drops everything to move back to Korea with his (bald) baby girl. He finds himself in a rural town mostly populated by the elderly, save a young town leader and an orphaned boy who thinks he could be his father (he’s not.) After initially butting heads with the towns leader, which lasts approximately five minutes, the semi-reclusive Kwon Haebeom quickly decides to help his new resident settle in, clears up the miscommunication of the little boy thinking he’s his runaway dad, and teaches him the ways of farming land. They start to get along quite well, and after Kwon Haebeom discovers that his newest tiny resident has no name, he decides it’s up to him to give her one, with no real pushback from Sung Ho, because he hasn’t thought of something that fits, and the woman that gave birth to her legally gave her the name “Unknown”.

Little Sung Unknown quickly adopts this strange town leader as her second father without asking either men if that was okay, but luckily it was more than okay because they become the greenest flag happiest couple i’ve read in anything ever.

This story has the “Tsundere” tag on official platforms, which i think is incorrect for this sorry, yes Kwon Haebeom would do literally anything for his family because he is so in love with both of them, but the that term implies an almost violent obsession. Kwon Haebeom would kill himself before he ever touched a single hair on Sung Ho or Sung Unknowns heads. They are his reason for everything.

This story is very realistic on how it it’s for queer couples in Korea, and I love that even in thai small idealistic village where everyone loves them, they still face those worries about how people will perceive them as a family.

Anyway, happy publication day to Our Sunny Days ☀️

*review of season 1*

This was probably the healthiest BL I've read in a while. Unfortunately, that didn't make it all that interesting to read. The MC is very bland and most of his interesting aspects stem from the mystery surrounding his parentage. The leader of the village is pretty much an amalgamation of every ML in other BLs I've read. So, essentially this is Hometown Cha Cha Cha but without the tension between the 2 main characters and they added a baby instead.

I thought the bit where Sung Ho meets the old man who abandoned his daughter was somewhat interesting. I wonder if that's delved into in the second season more. It was a great way for Sung Ho to see from the POV of a parent that relinquished their kid - though it was hard to feel sorry for him considering him and his wife had other kids.

The story of the kid who kept going around asking military vets if they were his father was actually heartbreaking. He doesn't do much in the story after they agree to be friends and that was sort of a bummer. I wanted more of that. However, he sort of fit in line with making the MC basically a parent throughout the entire first season. He literally has nothing going on for himself and I'm confused as to how he's financially supporting himself.

I also don't know entirely why he moved to Korea. I don't remember if that was really explained. Regardless, I don't really have enough interest in this series to continue on from here, but I see the appeal of it. My guess is the MC ends up teaching an English class later and continues building his relationship with the village leader.

If you’re not reading this one, what are you even doing with your life? I love Our Sunny Days so much, it’s not even funny anymore. This is everything anyone would want to heal their heart. Every time I think shit might go south for them, the author proves me wrong by making them act like normal adults and TALK.
Anyhow, let me summarize for you what this gem is about:
Ho Sung is a single dad who leaves his military life behind once his ex-girlfriend hands over the daughter to him, whom he never even knew he had, and moves to a small village in the Korean countryside. There he meets Haebeom Kwon, who owns the local store and is also the village chief. The first impression isn’t great, but they grow closer, and it’s just chef’s kiss. All their little village adventures as they take care of the baby (who still to date does not have a name), build a home, and grow closer as a couple.
Slowly their pasts are being revealed. Especially Kwon’s is rather sad and traumatic, but the author still manages to make it into something surprising and wholesome when that past comes knocking on their door.
They are both such green flags, and their relationship is so freaking good, as are the sex scenes.
10 stars, to be honest. I can’t wait for the new volume of this to come out.
This is the most wholesome BL you will ever read. I promise you. Go and read it now.

Absolutely awesome. When I first had someone online recommend me this, I had many things holding me back. I was like, "A baby? Not so cute looking either, maybe an omegaverse....? The art style is THAT delicious... would this even be a good read...?" Well, I regret even having those thoughts now. It's healing to see a manhwa with no drama or toxic, and I regret calling the baby not so cute- SHE"S THE MOST ADORABLE PRINCESS I'VE EVER LAID MY EYES ON AND I LOVE HER DEARLY. Sometimes I need to take a break and get some time to recover from all the stress of my personal life. This was my weekly therapy. It's wholesome, fluffy, communication, and everything you'd want in a good BL. The smut was green, the communication was green, the life they live is green, GREEN EVERYWHERE! Their relationship is as green as the village they live in! It's about family- and I think they did a pretty good job on that word maintaining it as the key. They are all they have and they are all they need... Love this manhwa sm! Waiting for season three~ <3
