Talk about making a bad first impression.

The rookie at Waterford’s fire station literally hauled me out of my own home—over his shoulder. Was my kitchen on fire? Yes. Did I have it nearly contained? Also yes.

And now he’s been tasked with making up for his overzealous rescue attempts by showing up to my bakery to grovel daily. And beg for my donuts.

Don’t get me wrong, the man is built like a redwood, has the personality of a golden retriever and eyes you could get lost in for days.

But I’m not dating. Not after my last serious boyfriend left town without looking back. I’m devoted to three my hometown, my bakery, and my friends.

That is until an opportunity to enter a baking contest catches my eye. And I need a partner. Enter the rookie. Yes, the same one who easily lifted me and slung me over his shoulder. My best friend and business partner, bless her heart, suggests we fake a relationship—just for the sake of the contest. It seems like a simple fix.

Don’t worry. It’s not like I’m going to fall for him. I’m immune to his charms. Mostly.

Fire and Icing is a sweet, closed-door romcom with kisses that might require a fire extinguisher. This stand-alone story is the first in the series The Firemen of Waterford TN.

Okay, this book was such a page-turner! My first read by Savannah, and I’m already excited to see what’s next in the series.

Dustin and Emberleigh start off completely at odds after their messy "meet ugly," but neither of them sees what’s coming. Dustin’s set on getting back in Emberleigh’s good graces, so he offers to team up with her for a baking competition. She’s not his biggest fan, but she really wants to win, and he might be her best shot. The catch? They need to be a couple. So, fake dating it is... or is it?

Once the sparks start flying, Emberleigh has a hard time letting herself fall. Everyone always leaves, and the thought of losing Dustin too, especially when his dreams might take him away, is more than she can handle. Could fake dating turn into something real?

This story had so much I love: the banter, the nicknames, fake dating, forced proximity, one bed, and a super sweet, super fit firefighter hero. The chemistry? Off the charts. The kisses? Loved every one!

I gave it 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.

Fire and Icing by Savannah Scott
Book 1 in The Firemen of Waterford TN Series
Blog post: https://bookloveramanda.blogspot.com/...

As a Tennessee gal, I enjoyed this story. Dustin and Emberleigh were cute together. Savannah's books are some of my favorite so this is one I was really anticipating. :)

Read if you enjoy:

💘 Fake Dating

🚒 Firefighter Romance

😂 Laugh out Loud Rom-Coms

💞 Clean Romances

🧁 Baker FMC

👨‍🚒 Firefighter MMC

🍰 Baking Competitions

🏡 Small Southern Towns

😬 Meet "Ugly"

We follow Dustin who is Stevens' brother from the Love Trippin' series. He moves from Marbella Island, California🌊 to Waterford, Tennessee🏡. Dustin is the new rookie firefighter👨‍🚒🚒 in Waterford and the first job is a 🍰kitchen fire at Emberleigh's place. He hauls her outta there - literally 😂- and they have somewhat of a meet "ugly" rather than a meet "cute".😂 Emberleigh is a baker who is entering a baking competition and one rule is she needs a partner that is not a baker, so they agree to fake date for the competition's sake....but as things would have it...feelings start to form and the rest is history.

While I really enjoyed getting introduced to this charming small town and the lovable group of firefighters, especially Dustin....who was such a golden retriever of a main character, sweet, supportive, and easy to root for, I found myself wishing for just a bit more depth to the overall story. Compared to other books I have LOVED in the Love Trippin' series, this one felt a little lighter on emotional layers, and I didn’t connect with Emberleigh as much as I hoped to. That said, I still enjoyed my time with this and recommend it as a clean rom-com with no language, and I think readers who enjoy sweet, small-town romances will find plenty to love here.

Favorite Quote:
" A good relationship is built on open communication. Sometimes you fight or disagree, but you always come back to one another because that's what matters most."

Thank you to Savannah for providing a copy of the book for my honest read and review. All thoughts are my own.

3.5/4 rounded up to 4 on Goodreads.

Savannah Scott never fails to deliver stories that are packed full with equal parts humor and heart... and when you throw some smalltown firefighters into the mix!? Yes, please! I adored Dustin and Emberleigh right from that initial 'meet ugly'... but her first impression of the rookie firefighter was certainly less than impressive. This story had me smiling right from the beginning. They may have gotten off to a rough start, but when forced proximity and a fake dating plan to enter a couple only baking contest force them to spend more time together, the sparks fly. Dustin is such a fun character... I truly don't know of any other author who creates a loveable golden retriever MMC quite like Savannah does, and Dustin might just be my new favorite! Is it any wonder Emberleigh could not resist? And the songs he writes for her!? Oh my goodness. Truly, I just loved these two so much. Beyond that though, I also loved meeting the other men in the firehouse just as much. This is only book one and already there was such a sense of camaraderie and family... teasing and all! I cannot wait to see more from these guys and see them get their happily ever afters later in the series!

Fire and Icing is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

You need a book that promises to be the beginning of a fabulous series.

Solution:

Fire & Icing by Savannah Scott

From the author who brought you Bordeaux, OH and Marbella Island, meet the residents of Waterford, TN.

This book will make you smile, laugh, and rant a little in your head while falling in love with Gran. Who doesn't love a meddling old matchmaker?

Oh shoot. I forgot to mention all the firemen, didn't I? My bad. 😉

I am so excited for you to read this book!

“I don’t know. I think a fireman throwing me over his shoulder would be hot under almost every circumstance I could dream up.”

Oh friends, this story is a must read! From the initiation of Dustin at the fire house, to the meet ugly, donut pick ups, banter, only one bed, and golden retriever MMC, this story will have you smiling, giggling, tearing up, swooning, and rooting for Emberleigh and Dustin!!

“You’re not losing me. I’m like a rash. You’ll try to scratch me and I’ll just grow on you.”

From a most unfortunate first call as a rookie, Dustin found himself tripping over his pants, carrying a woman out of her house, and managing to get on her bad side…he’s got a lot to make up for! And he is determined to find a way to help Emberleigh see he is not a ‘manhandling oaf.’ He agrees to help Emberleigh join a television baking contest as her ‘fake’ boyfriend, and oh my, does their story have tension 🔥!!

Great balls of fire! Savannah started out her new series with a firecracker! And being a Southern TN gal and all, I loved all the southern charm that she added!

This story started off with a bang! That meet- disaster was one for the books! Dustin had to work hard to make it up to Emberleigh! And by the way, I just love her name!

Dustin stole my heart with his go-getter personality and his sweet charm! He handles all the “rookie shenanigans” with ease and doesn’t let anything get him down. I love a good grump, but sometimes I need the golden retriever MMC!

I loved how he stepped up and helped Emberleigh out when she needed him during the bake-off. I mean, who can resist a man who steps in and helps you bake? *sigh*

Watching their love story unfold was beautiful. I laughed, swooned, cried and grinned till my cheeks hurt! Have your tissues ready when Dustin sings!

I loved all the banter, the fake dating, the teasing, the small town goodness, all the friendships and the romance was of fire! I think Emberleigh’s Gran stole the show, though! She was a hoot!

I loved meeting all the firefighters and getting little glimpses of their personalities. I look forward to seeing more from them in this sweet series!

What to love:
🔥He has a sweet tooth
💦Firefighter Initiations
🔥Family phone chats
💦Waterhouse Baptism
🔥One bed/Pillow wall
💦Nicknames
🔥Baking adventures
💦Cheetos boxers
🔥The kisses!
💦Goat rescue
🔥The songs 🫠
💦The festival

Thank you, Savannah, for delivering another epic story oozing with charm and wit! I can’t wait to visit Waterford, TN again soon!!

Another adorable book by Savannah Scott! I was so excited for this book to come out and I loved this story so much!

Dustin is the rookie fireman in town. Emberleigh is the town baker. These two have a not-so-cute meet cute when he hauls her out of her house using the fireman carry (when she refuses to leave) and she is NOT happy about it! From there, Dustin is forced to grovel and buy donuts on the regular, then a baking contest leads to some fake dating, a single room with one bed, a temporary roommate situation, a meddling gran, some country music, funny nicknames, cute banter, and some fake feelings that quickly turn real!!

These two were absolutely adorable! Definitely add it to your summer reading list!!

Some favorite quotes:

“Love doesn’t always come with sirens blaring. Sometimes love builds from the smallest of sparks.”

“He thinks he’s a hero because he technically is one. He’s a firefighter. It’s literally in the job description. Besides, a man strong enough to throw you over his shoulder? Yes, please.”

“I’m an affectionate man. At times I’m loud. I often put my foot in my mouth. And when I care about someone, they know it. Everyone around us knows it.”

“There’s something about watching someone enjoy a treat you baked. It’s the best thank you in the world.”

“Honestly, her nickname should be Trouble because I’m in big trouble. I don’t know how she did it, but she’s got me hooked on those smiles of hers. I want to bring one hundred to her face every day. And I want them all to myself.”

“How do you encapsulate this man in one word? He’s playful, easy to be with, compassionate, and secretly deeper than he appears at first blush. He’s funny, but knows how to be serious. He’s warm, and he’s safe. And yet he’s so very dangerous. My heart is definitely in peril where he’s concerned.”

And so many more!!! Read it to find your all your new favorites!

The firemen are here! This book has been one of my most anticipated reads of the summer and I just loved every minute of it!

Dustin moves from California to Waterford, Tennessee to take a position as a rookie firefighter. His first day on the job he meets Emberleigh when he helps put out her kitchen fire. He literally hauls her out of her house and this annoys Emberleigh right off the bat, so the two are not off to a good start. Dustin is the rookie and it is tradition that he gets to be the subject of teasing from his team at the fire department and this takes it up to a new level. I couldn’t stop laughing. The meet-ugly is everything! Dustin is such a genuine good guy and is determined to get back in Emberleigh’s good graces; so when he is tasked by the fireman on his team with picking up donuts everyday and delivering an apology to her he takes it all in stride.

Emberleigh is determined not to date anyone, but when she needs a partner who doesn’t bake so she can enter a contest, Dustin steps up as her fake boyfriend in order to help her. I really loved these two together and how the baking contest helped them grow closer. Dustin was so sweet and supportive, them working together brought many swoony moments like when Dustin sings her to sleep. I won’t be forgetting that anytime soon. Their feelings start to become real quickly but Emeberleigh is holding back. I love the growth she goes through in the book and those kisses showed their real feelings for each other. Swoon! Emberleigh’s Gran was so much fun and I loved the friendship and banter between Dustin and the other fireman. I'm just so excited to be at the start of another fabulous series by Savannah Scott. This book will just melt your heart and is one you need to read!

This was an adorable and fun series starter about a rookie firefighter and a local baker.

I immediately fell in love with Dustin. He’s a wonderful golden retriever hero who is kind, caring, and funny. Emberliegh has had a lot of hurt in her life, and it was sweet to see Dustin gain her trust and her heart.

I loved the other firefighters and the way they teased and pranked each other, and their loyalty and comradery.

I adored Emberleigh’s meddling gran, and Dustin’s mom’s way of misusing slang had me laughing out loud several times.

"Whatcha got in the pink box?"
"Snakes." She keeps walking. "A box of snakes."
"I love snakes," I say, following her into the kitchen of the firehouse like a lost puppy.

Fire and Icing by Savannah Scott

Oh my Lanta! Cue the swoon and banter!
This one starts off hot (literally and figuratively!), with Dustin "saving" Emberleigh from a "fire". Haha! That first chapter had me turning the page!

I loved that they don't stay enemies for very long (though I do love a good enemies-to-lovers with ALL the tension!), but become friends.
Despite not being enemies for long, there is some great banter and even tension.

As you can see there are so many favorite parts that I had--fake dating, a baking competition, donuts, forced proximity, a meddling grandma!, and so much more!

Dustin is like a puppy, eager to please! He is also strong, dependable, and loyal. He has a burning desire to help others, especially Emberleigh, and it's so cute to watch him doing so. Oh and when he falls for someone, he falls hard and fast.

Emberleigh is beautiful inside and out--she lights up a room with her smile, loves fiercely, and doesn't want others to give up their dreams. She has her insecurities about people coming into her life only to leave. But I love the way she overcomes them.

I really liked the fact that Dustin and Emberleigh communicate about things in their relationship and talk things out, instead of having a misunderstanding or miscommunication.

There are themes of forgiveness and not letting one thing get in the way of a long-standing friendship, and also themes of sacrificing for those you love and care about.

I adored Dustin and Emberleigh's story and think you would too!

P.S. Fair warning, this book will have you craving baked goods and, ahem, firemen. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Dustin is the new rookie in town at the fire station and he makes one not so great first impression on Emberleigh when he saves her from a house fire.

Her dislike of him quickly turns to like which turns to more after he agrees to fake date her for a baking competition.

Dustin is new in town and he has his eyes set on a different goal in Nashville. Is Emberleigh willing to give her heart to a man that may walk out on her like others have in the past?

What I loved:
🔥Dustin is the most adorable golden retriever MMC who wears his emotions on his sleeve. He’s not afraid to shout his love for Emberleigh from the rooftops.

🔥There’s soooo much to this book! Not only do we get to experience Emberleigh and Dustin’s relationship, but the growing pains of Emberleigh and her best friend Syd.

🔥The bromance budding between the guys at the fire station. Those guys are the best!

🔥The musical aspects. Dustin is talented and wants to share his voice and loves being on stage.

🔥 The sparks between Emberleigh and Dustin. The two balance each other out and I loved the honest, open communication between the two.

This was the perfect first book in this series. I can’t stop thinking about all the characters. I’m looking forward to the next one!!

Words can’t describe how happy I was to get another Savannah Scott book in my hands!

While we may have a new location (hello Waterford) for this next series, it still holds that special brand of Savannah Scott charm. You’ll laugh, swoon, and find yourself seriously considering moving to a fictional small town.

Savannah just has a way with characters, not all you love but they all feel real. The whole town is full of lovable, sometimes meddling characters that just feel like someone you know.

Here I am gushing and haven’t even gotten to our main characters yet. Dustin is the epitome of a golden retriever and I absolutely loved him for it. Sweet, friendly, loyal, and always trying to do what is right. The perfect man to win over Emberleigh who has a bit of a wall up after being burned before. But underneath that tough, independent exterior is someone so kind and caring. Plus their meet cute (or meet ugly depending on who you ask) is definitely one to remember!

"I'm afraid I want what I can't have."
"No girl, you're so afraid you can't have what you want, you won't even let yourself own your own dreams."

This was a sweet and fun series starter centered around a rookie firefighter and a local baker with a small town setting. I loved the firefighters and their dynamic, and I am looking forward to knowing the rest of them better as the series progresses!

I really loved rookie Dustin who was a total golden retriever hero, and won Emberliegh over with his kindness, sense of humor, his honesty and care. It took me a while to warm up to Emberliegh, she had a lot of baggage and judged Dusting off-the-bat, but I slowly grew to lover her big heart and tenacious character - the "firecracker" within. And the baking competition and show was a fun and fascinating setting! Especially with a bit of an "arch nemesis" twist.

Savannah has done it again!!! She pulled Dustin from her Love Trippin’ series and brought us to Waterford, TN. Even though he’s a hot firefighter, Dustin is a big time golden retriever. 🔥 He has a funny, meet-ugly with Emberleigh on his first day of work. She’s a local baker in this small town that quickly becomes his favorite. 🍩 They end up in a forced proximity situation which only gives them time to get to know one another while they are fake dating. Emberleigh is trying to protect her heart from getting hurt again but Dustin fall hard and makes that difficult. It quickly becomes real between the two of them, but they do not shy away from those feelings. Emberleigh’s past affects the “third act conflict” but it’s not the typical one you would expect. I cried reading the epilogue too. So sweet!! 😍

I loved this read! It hit the I-want-a-read-that-makes-me-laugh-not-cry-but-also-has-substance bullseye. Who knew I needed a firefighter and baker romance in my life?!

I adored Dustin and his relentless golden retriever attitude! His willingness to prove himself a part of the team and keep apologizing is pure gold. No oafs here! IYKYK

Emberleigh is a true boss woman! She makes sure that she is a staple of the community, creating and cultivating friendships, while providing the friends and neighbors with booked goodness.

Also, their meet cute is one for the ages. I laughed so hard!

“It’s going to take more than charm and boyish appreciation of my baked goods to fix that oafish first impression.”

I’m all about this new couple in Waterford–Dustin and Emberleigh. Not only do they have a “meet-ugly,” but the sparks are immediately present and instantly combust into something sweet, beautiful, and oh, so entertaining with all the things I love.

🔥Small town? Waterford has it covered with all the mischievous antics of beloved small town characters and a deviously matchmaking grandma. And a mother who tries too hard.
🔥Initiations? This fire team thrives on initiating this rookie and his golden retriever energy takes it in stride. And I loved them all–everyone but the chief is single, so…👀😍
🔥Forced proximity? That’s what a meddling grandma and a baking competition will do–cuddling included.
🔥Fake dating? Did I mention a baking competition? Yeah. Fake with flames only make this relationship flammable.
🔥Swoon? This big, lovable, tree oaf falls head-over-heels first in an almost (but not quite) reverse grumpy/sunshine.
🔥Beautiful banter, chemistry and interactions that had me racing through the pages for more.

I can’t wait for more in this new series! Savannah Scott is a beloved favorite and she completely delivers with Fire and Icing.

Savannah Scott has done it again! Once again I am blown away by her wonderful characters and their love story.

I love how Dustin and Emberleigh meet and how Dustin has to work for Emberleigh's forgiveness.

The banter between these two is so great. I loved every moment they interacted with each other. The baking contest they were in was perfection (and totally made me want to watch a baking show! And eat really yummy goodies 😋 )

I love how well Dustin and Emberleigh work together. Their communication was perfect, and even though they still had their struggles, it wasn't over one of them not saying something. I absolutely loved that!

I also really enjoyed the side characters and am looking forward to the rest of the Dustin's fire crew getting their stories!

This is the first book in The Firemen of Waterford TN series.

Thanks to the author for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

This book was 100% deliciously cheesy, fluffy, cliche small-town romance and I’m HERE for every last bit of it!

Sometimes, you just need a lighthearted read and that’s exactly what you can expect in “Fire and Icing”! I absolutely loved all the detail gone into building this community and all the characters we will likely see more of in future books! I loved the fake dating, and I really liked the emphasis Dustin and Emberleigh made to navigate their relationship like adults and to encourage good communication 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 THANK YOU🙂‍↕️

Meet the main characters:

Dustin🔥🐶🥹: the lovable, lighthearted, golden retriever MMC!

•••Watching how Dustin stepped up into the protective role and became that safe place for Emberleigh was just so heartwarming! There’s just something about a man who can be fun and silly, while still knowing when to step up and take charge. I loved how Emberleigh often said how he held such a good presence in the room, like he brought peace and confidence with him creating a feeling of safety for her. Dustin was all in for his woman, and we LOVE TO SEE IT🙂‍↕️

“It's not about how adorable she is or how I can't stop thinking about her. I'm over come with this urge to make her life better than it's ever been
—to show her how good it can be to depend on another person and to let them love you well. I want to be a better man for her.” DUSTINNNN🫠😭🫶🏻
————————————————————————————

Emberleigh🧁❤️‍🔥😉: the sassy, driven FMC with a heart-of-gold!

•••Seeing the growth in Emberleigh as she learns to let go her hurts from the past and allow herself to be loved was inspiring and hit close to home! ❤️‍🩹 She’s a fun character with realistic fears, which makes her relatable. I love when authors show tangible growth in MCs; where their love doesn’t make them something they’re not, but actually makes them better versions of themselves!

I’m excited to read the next book❤️‍🔥

“You’re scaring me,” I say slowly. “You’ve got that look in your eyes.”
Sydney’s eyes widen in mock innocence. “What look?”
“The one you get when you’re cooking up a plan that’s going to make me question all my life choices.”

Savannah Scott does it again—Fire and Icing is everything I love in a sweet romance: laugh-out-loud moments, a golden retriever hero, fake dating, forced proximity, and SO much heart.

Set in a charming Tennessee town (that I know I’m going to love just as much as Bordeaux and Marbella), this story has the perfect mix of swoony kisses, small-town vibes, and banter that’ll have you smiling from page one. If you love bakery settings, meddling besties, and rookie firefighters with more than just a little charm, you need this one on your summer TBR.

Fire and Icing is available NOW!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content/trigger: abandonment issues, romance—kisses only.

Once again, Savannah Scott has woven her magic and created a small town with colorful characters and delightful romance. Waterford, TN, just got a new fireman straight from California. When he rescues the local baker from a small house fire that she had mostly under control, it does not set the right tone for the relationship. However, as Dustin the rookie grovels with his puppy like exuberance, Emberleigh can't help but forgive him. When Emberleigh needs a significant other for a baking competition, Dustin gladly offers himself as her partner. As their friendship grows, so do their feelings for one another, and the fake relationship quickly changes to a real one. If you enjoy a sweet romance with character growth and found family in a small town setting, then you definitely need to read Fire and Icing.
