Everyday Spiritual Habits by Hanna Seymour was written for women like me: moms of small children, or other busy folks who want to find time to grow their spiritual practices. Inviting Jesus into the tiny moments of our lives, to cultivate the spirit, learn scripture, and feel closer to God, even in the mundane of every day.
I found Hanna and her writing style to be very relatable, authentic, and inviting. She has been a Christian for what sounds like her entire life, but I'm a little baby Christian trying to find a way in to a spiritual practice for the first time as a grown up. This book is exactly what I needed.
It builds upon the framework of James Clear's Atomic Habits and the scripture itself, teaching how to choose good habits, how to break them down, where to fit them in, and how to make them actually stick. I do a lot of self-improvement, and I got several new insights from this book on general habit forming, too. These techniques can work on any goal you have.
I love that she gives real world practical advice on how to fit in the most foundational, integral pieces of a Christian spiritual practice, specifically studying scripture, and prayer. She also emphasizes the importance of friendship and community and really gives an excellent pep talk on that subject that has really inspired me.
One of the biggest takeaways I got from this book wasn't even a major point of emphasis in the book. It can apply to any fill in the blank:
"Was that time spent with God, or just time spent?"
Oof, the impact of that statement.
It's a lesson on presence I will carry with me in everything I do.
Excellent book you have here, Hanna. I believe this has the potential to impact a lot of people, women, specifically, to live more intentional lives, and nurture their relationship to God. Thank you for sharing it with me.
Note:: I received an early copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

The book is easy to read and understand. A wonderful resource. I recommend this book. Everyday Spiritual Habits by Hanna Seymour is a 5-star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Hanna Seymour. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.
This book gave me really practical strategies to actually start habits, not just think about them. "Everyday Spiritual Habits: Small, Simple Ways to Transform Your Faith, Starting Now" takes a topic that usually feels secular (habit building) and applies it to faith in a natural, doable way.
I listened to the audiobook, and Hanna is the narrator. She is relatable, genuine, and makes it really fun to listen to. As a stay-at-home mom with little ones, I loved how realistic the ideas were to apply. So relatable. To avoid making this legalistic, she also continues to remind readers that being a "good Christian" does not require daily habits, and that nothing we do or don't do can change God's massive love for us.
I look forward to starting some new, practical habits to deepen my faith. 10/10 would recommend!
This was my first Hanna Seymour read and I am now a super fan. Hanna made this so easy to read and enjoy while also learning so much. I listened to this one as an audiobook but I will be purchasing the tangible copy as well to always have in my home. Throughout this entire book she brings in evidence and scripture to support rebuilding and reshaping our habits and how simple it can be to turn mundane moments to opportunities to pray or praise. This book encourages and challenges you in all the right ways. This felt like a tight hug and a challenging pep talk from the best “big sis”. Every tired mama needs this one. 1000/10 recommend!!
I really appreciated that Hanna didn't say "well just be less busy, make time for God he needs to be first!" but instead proposed a reframing of the problem of being too busy- establish habits, not just make time that you feel like you don't have when that's so much more easily said than done!
There is so much good truth in this book! "He loves you because God is love...it's the essence of who He is"
I've already been able to take some of the principles Hanna lays out for habit forming and make small changes to my routines. I look forward to diving in deeper to one of the chapters as she suggests and creating "sticky habits"
This reads as a hybrid between the recent books and studies on the power of habit (e.g., by James Clear, Charles Duhigg) and those on spiritual exercises or paths to holiness ... these tips and tricks are presented from a lay perspective with an emphasis on incorporating these habits in a family life context (such as praying for and with one's children, meshing these habits with the travails of regular/real life. The writing is delightful and full of relatable personal anecdotes, along with scriptural support and encouragements.
Relatable, practical and actually helpful, Hanna has the unique gift of encouraging you like a big sister and equipping you with what you need. A fresh approach to spiritual disciplines, you won't feel shamed or like you being labeled "lazy" because you're not—you just need help forming habits to sustain you and bring the transformation you truly desire. This book is for every woman—college/grad students, career women and busy moms—and these spiritual disciplines will change you life
Loooovvveeeddd this book!! I speed read it and will be slowly digesting and going back throughout the year. This is one of those books I’ll keep on my bookshelf and refer back to. So helpful for the millennial mom who wants to grow closer to Jesus but feels guilt and shame for not knowing how. Hanna helps you reimagine what your walk with God can look like in the midst of your busy life- because she’s bee there too!
I just finished listened to this audiobook, and it was so encouraging! Hanna's passion for growing in her relationship with Jesus is contagious, and I really appreciated all of the practical ideas she gave for us to implement little habits into the busyness of our everyday lives. I will be thinking about this book for a long time, and am already starting to incorporate some of these spiritual habits into my life.
It is truly one of the best books I have read and that is saying a lot because I’ve read many books. It shows how you can incorporate Jesus in your everyday life no matter how busy it is. It’s so thought provoking that I had to grab a journal to write down things.
Love love loved. The science of habits + scripture in a way that moms can easily incorporate into their lives. I have so many takeaways that I’ll be implementing into my spiritual habits!
