Stories for the Kid Next Door

Rate this book
A collection of short stories, rhymes and jokes from by Emma Holland, one of Australia's leading comedians. Easy to read and impossible to put down! Think a blanket knitted out of body hair; balls held hostage by a disgruntled neighbour; an awful lot of broken glass from a school with a daily window-smashing problem; mysteriously mayonaissed burgers. It's Paul Jennings meets Kate and Jol Temple meets the Worst Week Ever series.

The greatest stor(ies) ever told. The perfect book of hilarious stories and poetry for middle readers, with insane plots, quirky characters, and an extensive vocabulary to boost any child's language skills.

I cannot recommend the audiobook version highly enough, where Emma shines as a narrator, using incredible voices and pacing to bring her work to life.

Showstopper! Can't wait to see what comes next for this promising young author

This book is hilarious for both adults and children, it taps into the silliness that children so easily see the world with while remaining accessible at any reading level. The expansive vocabulary accompanied by illustrations is the perfect marriage of challenging and leisurely necessary for a children's book. As an adult reader, it's hard not to chuckle and smirk while reading the short stories, while it is at it's core silly and quirky, the cleverness of the writing left me feeling like I'd be gotten again and again with jokes I didn't see coming.
