Red Moon #5

Pale Moon

Rate this book
Unlike his siblings, Nicholas Williams has no desire to find a mate. But when a group of strange Lycans arrive at his home, bringing with them a human woman named Max, Nicky finds himself oddly attracted to her.

On a dangerous quest to the outskirts to save his birth father's life, Nicholas is drawn to Max in a way he does not understand. His urge to protect her and claim her as his own grows stronger with each passing day. But when Max reveals her strange powers - powers that can harm the people she cares about most - he must find a way to convince her to trust him.

Author's Note: This is Book Five of the "Red Moon" series. Book One ("Red Moon"), Book Two ("Red Moon Rising"), Book Three (“Dark Moon”), and Book Four ("Alpha Moon") should be read first in order to have a better understanding of both the characters and the world they live in. This book contains some violence and some hot and sweaty sex scenes, and is intended for adults only.

Hated Emmett he was such an ass and I had his number from the beginning. His sister, really what an idiot. There were times that I just wanted to smack her upside her head and tell her, are you really this stupid?? Violet, loved how she kept calling him puppy that so made me laugh. Loved Max, she was a kickass heroine and was the perfect complement to Nicholas. I loved this story/series and am so saddened that this is the last book in the series :*( Okay off to read Dani's story.

I just got finished reading Pale Moon, and it is so much more than just Nicky and Max's story. So much more! Elizabeth Kelly sure can weave a wicked tale. I started my addiction to this series with Red Moon thinking that this shifter story was so compelling that I simply had to read Red Moon Rising the very next day. These are full stand alone novels, not just a couple of chapters. I got sucked in to this family saga that will just not leave my head! Next was Dark Moon followed by the novella Alpha Moon. Today I finally got to read through this latest installment and I am still hooked! Nicky and Max are so good together, but that thing with Max I did not see coming! The obstacles that they have to get past are a step above the stories that came before them. For instance, in the case of Nicky's birth father Emmett...I just keep thinking that it's crazy how so much evil stuff can exist in one person. This is one more incredible read from Elizabeth Kelly, and I can almost already feel the need for a story for Pavina and Doran, but that could just be my addiction talking here.. Well I can hope, anyway. I am not saying you HAVE to read all of the books in the series, but like, you really, really should! Red Moon, Red Moon Rising, Dark Moon, Alpha Moon and Pale Moon are all stand alone full books, with only Alpha Moon being a novella, but they all feed nicely into the next one, and all of them leave you waiting impatiently for Ms. Kelly to finish with the next group of characters already! I know it has to be crowded in her head but I'm really glad that she lets them our for us on a regular basis!

After reading this series, in record time, I am very disappointed to have finished so soon. Every book in this series will be stuck in my head for a long time to come. I'm very glad to have stumbled onto them. I have fallen in love with the entire family and frankly amazed at how well the author was able to not only keep up with so many characters but also bring so much life to each of them. This is a family I would love to call my own. I wouldn't mind reading more on future generations - hint, hint.

★ This is my favorite series by E.K.
❤ Book 2, about James & Bree, is my favorite.

The final book concludes the overarching story of the Williams' family, that started with Tristan & Avery.

Nicholas, who was a baby in book one, finds his mate.

Previously, a group arrived at the homestead to inform Nicholas (Nicky) about his biological father, Emmett. Emmett was taken by leeches, and Nicky is needed to help rescue him. It turns out that the leeches are kidnapping lycans for experiments aimed at creating hybrids of leeches and lycans. Andric's family and pack have either been killed or captured by the leeches.

The group that comes to the homestead includes:
Meridan, an older lycan;
Max and her 3-year-old daughter, Violet;
Nina, Nicky's 15-year-old half-sister;
and Pavina, another lycan.

Meanwhile, evil Ryker and his hired lycans are hiding in the woods nearby.

🚨 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗪 🚨

🄿🄻🄾🅃 🅃🄷🅁🄴🄰🄳🅂:
✦ Many characters embark on a journey to find the leeches, facing killer fairies, a dangerous town where Nina is stabbed, and deadly gogmagogs. They eventually rescue Emmett and Jackar, Andric’s brother.

Nicholas & Max start a relationship.

✦ Leta's amazing healing power helps people, but the villain eventually discovers it.

✦ Max fears her telekinesis after killing a rapist as a child. Nicky forces her to learn control to aid their quest, and keep others safe.

✦ Emmett is revealed to be an evil villain. He wants Max and Leta for their powers, and to kill everyone else. He, along with Ryker and hired lycans, are defeated in a final battle.

The Good:
✅ Plenty of action.
✅ Truly evil villains.
(🥳 when they were killed.)
✅ A satisfactory conclusion to the series.

✅ The Epilogue:

The Cute:
🐶 Max's daughter, Violet, who called Nicky 'puppy'.
🧚🏻‍♂️ Kala, the pixie, who often blew or gave kisses. (She soon became overly sweet.)

The Okay:
🆗 The MCs' relationship felt muted in the overstuffed plot, with insta-love and little on-page development. The sex scenes were lukewarm.

The Not-So-Good:
☹️ Practically no character descriptions.
☹️ The MCs' ages are not given.

🄼🄰🄳🄴 🄽🄾 🅂🄴🄽🅂🄴:
🤷‍♀️ That no one tried to find out who killed Tristan. At the start, he was shot in the heart with an arrow by an unknown assailant. The only reason they learned it was Ryker, was bc they saw him with the arrows.

🤷‍♀️ That Emmett, a loan shark with thugs, was rescued. IRL, he probably would've been left with the leeches. Max and Meridan wanted to be freed from their debts.

🤷‍♀️ That Ryker, a smart guy, wanted to find his boss. It's more likely he would've wanted to take his place. Emmett's stupid decisions led to their defeat.

🤷‍♀️ That Max didn't tell the truth about Emmett. Her weak excuses were needed to have an exciting conclusion.

💪 Leta heals with a touch and brings back the dead, like her father Tristan.
💪 During a fight with gogmagogs where Meridan is killed, Max kills several by herself. She then kills over 100 leeches. Her OTT powers save the day.

I was so keen to find out what happens after the cliff hanger in book 3 that I went straight to this one! Book 4 can be read as a stand alone novel and I'll be reading it now. Aside from dealing with the cliff hanger, this book focuses on Nicky (Nicholas) and Max. Max is human with a child, 3 year old Violet, who seems to have fallen under Nicky's charms immediately. Violet's father died before she was born and Meridan, who we met in Book 3, has been something of a father figure for her as he has for Nina, Nicky's human sister.

In Book 3, we learn that Nicky's birth father Emmett has been taken by the leeches (vampires) to be experimented on. Nicky agrees to travel to the outskirts to try and rescue him as well as get to know Nina better. During the trip, romance blossoms between him and Max but as is usual, the romance is fraught with problems. We see more of Andric who helped Dani in Book 3 as he believes that his pack were also taken by the leeches and he hopes to find survivors whilst Leta gets up to even more mischief. We also get to meet Kala the pixie.

This book is hard to review without giving spoilers but just when we think everything is sorted, another perilous situation arises which puts them all at risk of harm. Although this is the last in the series, it would have been nice to see what happens to Leta, Evan and their cousin Doran. I would absolutely recommend this series.

I loved and enjoyed reading the awesome & amazing, exciting & thrilling, full of romance & intrigue, paranormal, love story of Nicholas and Max.
While Nicholas's father is shot by an arrow and healed by his little sister, Leta, Nicholas finds out his biological father has been kidnapped by the leeches, has a half sister, meets Max and her daughter and the leeches are doing experiments on werewolves to find a solution to walk during the daylight. On the journey to try and free his biological father, his attraction and feelings for Max grow and finds out firsthand Max's secret.
Read the highly recommended, fabulously written, fifth book in the Red Mon series by the outstanding & gifted author Elizabeth Kelly.

Read them all

I finished the whole series this weekend. I think perhaps it was because I loved the characters and became invested in each of their lives and stories..I had started having a hard time finding a new author to read because I read so much..then I found this series...I read one and then the next immediately.. I am sure there will be others who may not like the series etc., however I loved them.
