Son of the Stars: A Mothmar Novel

Rate this book
Solyana brought the green, but the prophecy is far from fulfilled. Fully embracing her destiny, she charges toward the city of Thonethren to save her sister, and all of Mothmar, from the Taka Reu worshiping King Erval.

Pallah thought she found the home of her dreams in the courts of Erval, only to stumble straight into a nightmare. To find her brother, she must redeem her broken soul, or lose them both to destruction.

Jonas spent his life unraveling truth from legends, but the greatest truth continues to evade him. Uncovering the secrets of the stars means the life or death of his friends—if only he can get it in time.

These three, along with an abandoned girl, an ousted queen, and a sneaking steward, must run head-long to save the world before the coming Red Moon and certain demise.

In an absolutely stunning turn of events, Emma loved another Mothmar book!
Just kidding. There was no doubt this book would have me in a chokehold. Pallah fans, you won’t be disappointed with the character arcs in this one. Aaaaa it’s so good

I am in awe of what Auler accomplished. The scope of this third novel (and conclusion) is huge, and she handled every thread of story so well. The character arcs were satisfying, the villain was a top notch creep, and the ending gave me Much Anxiety (in the best way). Auler understood the assignment.

Son of the Stars is the third and last book in the Mothmar Books series, and it delivered, just like a final book should.

Lots of tension, lots of new information, and so many answers!

From book one I loved the idea of turning the chosen one trope on its head and have a prophecy written wrong (that's actually what got me into the books in the first place), but then also the way the storylines intertwine? It's like some complicated two-orchestra symphony played to perfection.

Pallah was an interesting character from the start, but in this book she's at a whole new level. Honestly, a fascinatingly written character - I'm a little jealous 😁.

I'm fact, all of the characters were amazing (some were amazingly evil, but it counts ). I know this review is a bit of a mess, but I try not to give away too much. Also, since I NEEEDED to see what happens next, I didn't even take notes as I usually do. My bad, sorry. Or maybe it's Amanda's fault for making me crave answers.

Amanda, this was so good! Did it answer all my questions? Not all of them, but I would love to return to Mothmar one day if/when you decide to take us on a new journey there.

What an amazing feat this book was for Auler. So many pieces that finally fell together, characters who had their purposes, successes and reunions. I enjoyed that not every thing was wrapped with a bow but there were some things left to the imagination and just hinted at. (Jonas's vision was *😚🤌*)

I didn't love Gam's storyline for the first half but that was forgiven later on.
I looooove Jonas and I would read a whole series on him if Auler ever decides to write more of Mothmar in the future. (I'm thinking era 2 would be amazing).

I loved Pallah and Rhuth becoming unlikely allies (kind of), and how one person's faith can impact even the darkest of souls.

The themes of faith, discovering truth and overcoming darkness in this finale was so beautiful! If you've been waiting to read the series for it to be complete, quit waiting and read this trilogy! it's just so so good.

I'm so sad to be saying goodbye to these characters and the world of Mothmar!

A very satisfying ending to an epic trilogy. And I don't say that lightly. The characters had depth and personal growth. I really enjoyed Jonas' development even more than I thought I would. I just loved who he turned out to be.
What I loved most about these books is that the villains are not %100 evil and even the "good guys" aren't %100 good, since real life isn't like that anyway. I usually simply let the story take place in front of me, but with this one I was truly invested and had hopes for the way it would turn out; it exceeded expectations. And even tho it had a great conclusion, it wasn't exactly a "happily ever after" either. Things are never really all bad or all good, and that resonated with me.
If you are looking for a book with a fight between good and evil, with warm animal friends, with magic, and with a villain playing mental games, start with Daughter of the Sun (: And then hang on for the ride!

Whew. It is not easy to stick the landing of a trilogy but with this sweeping concluding Amanda Auler did it.

In Son of Stars return to Mothmar and your favorite characters (as well as several new ones!) and traveling along to the epic conclusion of this series. What happened on the top of the mountain when Solyana reached Ahren? How did Pallah become the priestess in hiding? Is Solyana the answer to the prophecy or is there more than meets the eye? Auler beautifully answers these questions in her epic story of a world grappling with faith, religion, power, and mortality. She wraps up story lines but leaves the story just open ended enough that you are satisfied but wanting more.

If you have read Auler’s other two books in the series (and if you haven’t what are you waiting for?!!! Make haste!) you will not be disappointed.

WOAH I am in awe of the complexity and skill that this book displays. All the moments throughout the series, all the characters, and interconnected plotlines layered through time all wove together like strings to form an epic conclusion. It also had this deep meaning of finding truth through it that I LOVED! All of the characters I loved even more, seeing how they all came together.

The ending wrapped things up and left me with some questions to think on and make inferences for myself. I may have also cried a little. But altogether it was an absolute masterpiece. The sort of masterpiece that takes skill and talent to create!

3.5 stars rounded up—good book, nothing major/glaringly wrong, not a mind blowing forever favorite, but still an enjoyable read!

SOTS is a well-woven conclusion to the Mothmar trilogy. I’m always impressed with Auler’s ability to write so many viewpoints without confusing or losing me!

As with her other books, SOTS is twisty. This one did feel slow here and there, but just around the corner there was always a bombshell in the plot to keep me going.

I definitely recommend this trilogy to readers who enjoy large casts, slow burn plots, good vs evil battles and fantasy with nature & animals.

Really enjoyed this one. Some twists I didn’t see coming, and I’m kind of mad at myself for not spotting. Amanda did a very nice job integrating all the strands from the previous two books into a fitting conclusion, which left this arc finished but leaving me wanting more of Mothmar.

I’m really happy I enjoyed this one, especially as I joined her Kickstarter without having read any of the books ahead of time. I’d definitely recommend this trilogy to others. Solid YA Fantasy.
