Deepak Tailor really knows the ins and outs of living for free - it felt like I highlighted most of the book to come back to later and try out. The suggestions in travel alone had me daydreaming about some adventures I should be going on and now potentially could be going on! Throughly recommend this book and giving some of the ideas a go.- by Nick M"I am an avid follower of Deepak's web site and some of the other people he recommends in the book. This works as a primer of mostly practical life hacks which are well-known in the frugality community. The occasional suggestion is at best morally ambiguous or ethically questionable. Some advice strikes me as theft-of-services. This is written for a UK audience but many countries have similar organizations.
Some genuinely good tips for living frugally, but not many would be able or willing to go to the lengths suggested by Deepak. Still, it was a fun read. Written in a no-nonsense style.
It's interesting and some parts are still relevance yet I kept thinking and comparing such activities in today's society. So much of what the author achieved, I feel would be restricted now adays .
Ever looked at your credit card bill or bank statement in despair? Ever wondered how to get the things you buy for a cheaper price? I know I have. That’s why I volunteered to read and review a copy of Deepak Tailor’s book How to Live for Free in exchange for an honest review.
As the founder of the UK’s most popular freebie website - latestfreestuff.co.uk - I expect Deepak Tailor to have a lot of tips and tricks under his belt already. Despite this, he still spent three years researching, interviewing, and travelling the world to discover and unearth the best ways to live for free.
The result is a definitive guide to living for free. The book is divided into handy sections, featuring everything from free restaurant meals to free clothes to free cinema tickets. This makes it clear and well-organised, making it easy to find specific sections and navigate through the book. It’s also interactive, with a helpful checklist at the end of each section and steps to follow for every item. If you follow each tip as you read, you will end up equipped with a wide variety of ways to live for free by the time you reach the end of the book.
This book has given an great insight into to how to live for free with ideas, links and true stories of how this can be achieved. This has the potential for being an extremely useful resource for how to refuse the cost of living.
I would not necessarily call this The Definitive Guide as maybe hasn't reached that level just just, but the author has realised that they will need to compose other editions and continuously add and adapt as they come across more money saving techniques, examples and stories.
The one thing I would change about this edition is to pull all the resources, websites, books and links and place in an appendix at the back of the book.
This is one of the weirdest books I have ever read. While I think the premise is good, it is incredibly off putting to read a book advocating things like squatting, going to conferences just for the food, and more. I was hoping there would be some realistic and applicable life skills to put towards reducing cost and waste, but it is the most ridiculous book I've read in a long time.
A worthwhile read and some useful links although some ideas are beyond reasonable.... Finding an estate agent that let's you stay in a home rent free without the owners knowledge.... Seriously!?
