It was my first from this author and probably not my last. It was a good read.

It's the first in the Forged Heart series, which looks to be a duet. There were a few story holes here and there, and I feel the ending was rushed a bit. I would have liked to know a little more about Eduardo's backstory in between his interactions with Emma, but you get the gist that he has been basically secretly pinning for her for the years they were apart. The "adult time" was definitely there but short.
Overall, I enjoyed this one.
It was my first from this author and probably not my last. It was a good read.

Black Wave (Forged Hearts#1) by L. Renee Richard. Emma has found herself with a much older abusive boyfriend. He is emotionally, physically, and sexually abusive to Emma. Her twin sister Evie knows something is up ,but Emma will not say. Their bond is as tight as twins can be.When Emma has had enough, she finally lets Evie know just what she is going through. Unfortunately, before she can escape, her family is killed. When she finally gets away, she has to constantly look over her shoulder. He has told her he will never let her go, and only he gets to hurt her. A chance meeting has Emma meeting back up with Eduardo. As kids, they had a special bond. Now Eduardo vows to keep her safe from her abusive ex. It's a story of cat and mouse with a cute love story. There are questions I need to have answered, and I am hoping book 2 will answer all of them. The ending was a nice setup for book 2. I certainly didn't expect what happened at the end. However, the ending has left with more questions than before. I can say that the interaction between Emma and her ex was a little tough to read at times, and I was so glad he got what he deserved in the end. Eduardo was so good. His love for Emma was so sweet, and I hope to see more of them in book 2. I hope I don't have to wait long and all my questions are answered in the end. Because of my many questions, I give this story 4 stars.

Black Wave by L. Renee Richard is the First book in the Forged Hearts Series. This is the story of Emma and Eduardo. Emma is in an abusive relationship that she finally confesses to her sister and parents. They attempt to get her out of it but it ends up with her family being killed. Emma does get away with the help of another family member and this puts her to seeing Eduardo again. Emma and Eduardo had a connection when they were young. Enjoyed this book.

Black Wave is packed with emotion and action. Definitely had me on the edge of my seat reading it! It’s an easy read. Some would consider it a dark romance due to the overall themes (definitely check trigger warnings if you have any triggers), but I would consider it gray because it’s not as dark as some others that I’ve read (but darker than a lot). That being said, it is a romance with action, suspense, a bit of mystery, and twists and turns. The story is about Emma, who is trying to escape a bad relationship and get her life back. It’s a story of resilience, revenge, and retribution. Will she be able to truly escape? You’ll have to read to find out!
What I liked about this story is that Emma keeps living her life, even as she continues to look over her shoulder and has to move a couple of times. She doesn’t let her bad relationship completely take over her life, though it does have an impact on how she lives. The trauma that she experienced isn’t shoved under the rug. She picks herself up and dusts herself off in a way that many women wouldn’t be able to, but is not unrealistic. I will say that the plot moved more quickly than I would have liked in some places, but didn’t feel rushed to me. I liked how we got to see all aspects of Emma’s life, not just focused on her trauma or the danger that she’s in (though that’s in the background, not forgotten). It seems to end in a HFN scenario, and there is a second book coming (though I can’t give any more details without spoiling the end of this one). I can’t wait for the second book!

Loved this Read!!
This read took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I loved every second of this ride, and the depth and range of feelings I felt were just incredible. This is my first read from this author, but it won’t be the last. Although this book has a mafia influence, it was so much bigger than just the mafia trope. This book was about a young person who fell for the wrong guy and the implications that can be felt for many years afterward. It was also about second chances and how true love can prevail and help us heal. I loved Emma and Eduardo, and my heart is full for them as I finish this book. The chemistry and heat between this couple is hope, and I loved their smexy times!!! I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This book kept me hooked from the jump. I had this pegged as a dark read but definitely would say its more of grey read, at least for me. I was engaged through out. I absolutely can not wait until the next book. That twist though.

Emma when a customer comes in pursuing her eventually winning her over she never saw the darkness in him until it was too late. When she confides in her twin sister, making a plan with her family to escape after their graduation. Sadly before graduation a house fire takes everything from her, the only family she is ultimately alone. Until her mothers family rescues her, but she’s never truly safe because the monster of a man will never stop hunting her. Fast forward years, with the help of her uncle she is able to make it through nursing school, all while always looking over her shoulder and never telling anyone of her past, it’s the only way to keep them safe. But someone from her past comes back someone she never thought she’d see again, but Eduardo never stopped thinking about her, and she never stopped thinking about him.
Eduardo as a young boy he thought he’d be promised the girl with emerald eyes, until he was told to stay away from her, to never contact her, that it was for her own safety. Now stepping into the family business but also running his own gym, along with his one night club, he’s doing pretty well for himself. Though he’s had women through the years no one ever held a flame to Emma. He’d heard of her family’s tragedy and searched for her for years with no luck. Who would have thought all it would take was a trip to the ER to find his flame again. This time he’d protect her, he’s fight for her, he’d never let her go again.
Will Emma’s past come rearing its ugly monstrous head out? Will Eduardo truly be able to protect her from the darkness of her past?

Oh L. Renee Richard you’ve done it again, this one was a totally different story from what book 1 but wow what a ride this one was! Emma found her light in the darkness. Eduardo was an amazing mmc so supportive and spicy! I cannot wait for book 3!!

This isn't the first Richard’s book I've read, so I knew I was on the safe. To my great joy, I must admit that expectations were respected, and also in Black Wave we find all the elements that distinguish this dark romance as born from her pen: we have twists, humor, action, a good dose of tragedies that don't hurt never and, what I really appreciate, the presence of the second chance trope.
I'll start by saying that any reader who would like to approach reading this book should first check the Trigger Warnings, given that some contents and situations are particularly sensitive. In fact, at the beginning of the story, Emma (the main character) finds herself in an abusive relationship and, when she finally manages to open up to her family to seek help and get out of it, her counterpart makes his move and leads her into abyss. All this, however, leads her to see again that boy with whom she had a special relationship as a child, a boy she hadn't seen for a long time but who seems to be all she needs to truly heal, Eduardo.
Obviously, nothing is perfect, and there is no shortage of difficulties for Eduardo too, especially when it comes to Emma. Thanks to Emma and Eduardo's story, we will learn how important the support of the people we love is in times of need, that we don't have to do everything alone and that, sometimes, being in difficulty is not synonymous with weakness.
Although it may seem, at least from the outside, that classic dark romance where everything revolves around shady business, in reality, the reader will often find himself more moved by the feelings and significant moments that dot the narrative.
Obviously, this is to say that the pace is smooth, and one is always in suspense in an attempt to discover something more, to see how everything will evolve and what will become of the characters.
And – ooooh! – that final plot twist! But I won't tell you anything else!

Black Waves is definately what I would call "Edge of your seat" read where you constantly feel like something is going to happen, but your not quite sure what.
Emma's life has been punctuated by events over which she had no control. Now she's in an abusive relationship and when she finally decides enough is enough and takes some action to escape, a fire takes the lives of her parents and twin sister. But far from pushing her into her abusers arms, it gives Emma the strength to leave, reclaim her life and plot her revenge. With her parents mafia family help, Emma has escaped her abuser and although she's still in danger of him finding her, her Uncle has helped her re-build her life.
Eduardo is Emma's childhood love, but they lost touch when Emma's parents moved them away. But neither Emma or Eduardo forgot each other and both held on to the memories they had.
Emma and Eduardo finding each other again was really very sweet. But keeping her safe is not as simple as it seems. Eduardo is clearly extremely protective of Emma and goes to extraordinary lengths to protect her. I felt like crying so many times for Emma. Tears or laughter and love with Emma and Eduardo steamy reunion, tears of frustration when she felt like she was letting her friends down and tears os sadness when she blames herself for her parents and sister's death.
There are so many twists and turns in this story, it really does keep you on the edge of your seat. As I got towards the end, in my head I kept telling myself, no this will work out, even though everything that was written was going the other way. But that final twist - ........ All I can say is please don't make me wait a whole year for Twisted Tides ... that is nothing short of torture.

I don't know how to feel about this book. I loved the idea behind it, but think it wasn't properly executed. The couple both had a crush on each other since childhood, but due to things out of their control they drifted apart. They don't see each other in the book until about 40% into the book.
There wasn't much character development of the characters, besides Eduardo deciding he's going to pursue Emma again and stops sleeping around.
The abusive ex was taken down at the very end of the book and felt rushed. I wish there was more action in the plot rather than just the love story.
In the first part of the book when Emma is in high school I completely understand her fear and hesitation to ask for help regarding her abusive relationship. When she finally finds the courage to ask for help with the push of her sister everything turns out for the worst. After seeking help from her uncle it's decided she goes into hiding, but she stays in the same state as her abusive ex, that also has political power. I get Texas is a huge state, but maybe going a bit further with be helpful? She also seems very careless at times.
Eduardo seems sweet. He's had a crush on Emma since they were children, but with the warnings of her family decides not to pursue a relationship with her, until he hears about the tragedies she's been through.
The second book in the series looks promising and am excited to read it, but I do hope the execution is better.

This is book one in the forged hearts series and I'm kicking myself that it's took me so long to read it. I loved it. My heart was literally aching for Emma and everything she went through. She's been through so much but is still fighting.
Emma is in a relationship that is truly horrific, her partner is vile, he physically, emotionally and sexually abuses her. Her family know something is going on but she wasn't ready to tell them, but now she does and they decide to help her escape, but tragedy strikes and her family is killed. But she still makes it out and away from her ex, but she's always looking over her shoulder.
She meets Eduardo someone she knew along time ago, when they where kids, they always shared a special connection and they still do after all those years. She tells him everything and he promises to keep her safe.
Wow just wow, this author has left me speechless. What an emotional rollercoaster ride that was. I couldn't stop reading it, I was hooked from the beginning to the end.
It's dark, twisted, gritty, raw and emotional. The characters are amazing, the storyline really well thought out and the plot fucking fantastic. It's filled with twists and turns, angst, hurt, suspense, drama, action, spice, secrets and loads more. That ending was done very nicely, paving the way for the next book. I can't wait for it. Highly recommend.

This second chance mafia romance showcases the truth behind the saying “there is always light at the end of the tunnel.” Emma has gone through some dark times. She enters a toxic/ab^sive relationship at the age of 17 with an older man. When she finally tells her family what is going on she then loses her them, including her twin, to a house fire. Luckily for her, her mom reached out to family for assistance.
The light at the end of the tunnel appears when her mother’s family brings her home to Mexico. The planning begins to keep her safe and away from the ex. Flashforward several years and she reconnects with her childhood friend and crush, Eduardo, in a Houston ER where she is a nurse.
Eduardo never forgot about Emma and has always kept tabs on her throughout the years. When they reconnect, it’s instant heat. The chemistry is amazing.

This is the 1st story in the Forged Hearts Series where we meet Emma and her twin sister Evie along with family and friends. Their history is from family in Mexico where her uncle is involved in the Cartel and when Evie has been attacked their parents decide to leave that life and the protection it offered. Emma lost family and the one boy, Eduardo who’s held her heart since she was a young girl. When a ruthless controlling man, Julian sets sights on Emma he mistreats her sexually and does some unthinkable things to her. When the truth is revealed Evie and her parents make decisions to find safety only for Emma’s world to get destroyed in one moment. Years of hiding has allowed some freedoms but when a man obsessed with her, Julian returns seeking Emma for his own. Eduardo is a successful powerful man himself and does what is necessary to keep Emma safe with the support of his family and Emma’s. Secrets and lies are Emma’s norm but caring for her best, Liv takes its toll on her. Emma and Eduardo have one special 2nd chance at love that has many challenges, scary moments, danger, mistreatment, unexpected twist and turns, stolen happiness and above all LOVE!

A darkish read full of twists and turns that begins with the heroine Emma falling for Mr Wrong and finding herself trapped in an abusive relationship with Julian. When she finally finds the courage to ask for help and break free it all goes wrong in the worst possible way and although she gains her freedom, the cost was immeasurable, and she’s left looking over her shoulder as she tries to rebuild her life. Eventually she reconnects with Eduardo, a former childhood friend but just as she’s beginning to think of a future, her past catches up with her.
This was the first book I’ve read from this author and if Black Wave is any indication, I’ll definitely be checking out her other books. The overall story was fast paced with plenty of action and a twist in the tail I didn’t see coming. I loved Emma’s development as she ran the gamut of emotions going from victim to survivor all while living in fear that Julian would find her and after that ending, I can’t wait for the next book in the Forged Hearts duet.
This was the first book I’ve read from this author and if Black Wave is any indication, I’ll definitely be checking out her other books. Emma and Evie were twins. Emma worked at a coffee shop and that is how she met Julian. Emma couldn’t leave him because he was saying certain things to her to keep her with him. She told her sister everything that was going on. They then told their parents. Her mom had some connections because of her family. She called on her brother for help. He came through but a little late. Emma had a major heartbreak. She had someone who looked familiar to her tell her to be ready that night. He didn’t disappoint and he rescued her from Julian. He turned out to be her cousin and he took her to his father which is her uncle. Eventually she moved back to Texas after finishing nursing school. She made a great group of friends but she still had the worry of Julian finding her. She was working at the hospital one night and a familiar face walked in and she was so surprised. They got close again and she told him everything that was going on. Great mafia book.

Emma is in an a very abusive relationship, when she finally breaks down and tells her twin sister Evie and her parents they make a plan to get her out.
It doesn’t happen. On the night the should have been escaping back to her mother’s

Black Wave starts off with a bang, throwing you into the whirlwind of Emma's vengeful rage. L. Renee Richard crafts an wonderful atmosphere of tension and secrets, that kept me on the edge of my seat as Emma's path intertwines with the abusive Julian. While the plot unfolded at a very fast pace, the characters left something to be desired for me. Emma's motivations, while understandable, could have been explored with more depth, and Edwardo felt a little one-dimensional. This is the first book in the Forged Hearts Series. This was a great book to read about overcoming trauma from an abusive relationship. The first bit of the book is a lot of the backstory into the trauma Emma has had to go through with Julian, her abusive boyfriend. Once we get all the facts we jump into the future where Emma is coping with what she has gone through and trying to make the best of her life.
The plot thickens when we find out Julian has found Emma and she has no choice but to turn to her childhood sweetheart, Eduardo. Eduardo is possessive and protective of Emma. He makes sure she is as safe as she can be. I loved how protective and caring he was of Emma.
This book had a lot of twists and turns, but it was worth the read. The best plot twist is near the end. If you know, you know.

In my exploration of Black Wave (Forged Hearts, #1), and while it was undoubtedly a captivating read, I couldn't help but notice that the narrative delved into numerous situations that, in my perspective, didn't significantly contribute to the overarching story. While I appreciate the author's attention to detail, it felt at times like certain passages were devoted to unnecessary tangents.
I want to emphasize that this observation is made with the utmost respect for the author's craft. Every reader has their own preferences, and I believe a more selective approach to certain situations could elevate an already compelling narrative.

Emma loses her best friend and twin Evie and their parents. She is in abusive relationship with Julian, and is desperately trying to get out and not give up. She gets rescued by her cousin Adrian and is taken to Mexico to be with her family. She is learning self defense and remembering a boy Eduardo from the past. Emma knows Julian will never stop coming after her. Emma’s Uncle helps her go back to Texas. Will she be able to stay away from Julian, and be with her friends and new love? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. I love Eduardo and Emma’s character development. Great supporting characters. There are so many twists and turns. This book had action, spice, angst, and humor. Check your trigger warnings and then go grab this book.

Now Emma is in an abusive relationship, and her family tries to help her, which ends with her parents and her twin sister and best friend Evie’s deaths. Another family member steps in to help her, and this is were she and Eduardo connect again, and he is extremely protective of her.
This is a well written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with angst, loss, grief, family, humor, and love, which leads to an unpredictable, twisted, tragic, and steamy page turner, which had me on tenterhooks throughout.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

First I legit thought that this book was gonna end a cliffhanger. Don’t ask me why I have been traumatised by authors for so long makes you nervous when it comes to dark romance.

I had no idea on how this book was gonna end. Was thinking the absolute worst when I was getting closer to the end.
But thankfully didn’t it and gave a little cheeky sneak peek into the next book.
I had this feeling every time that I thought something was gonna happen to fix it didn’t never been this nervous about a damn book since The Veil Trilogy By V.B. Emanuele.

‘Black Wave’ packs so much emotion, strength, revival, and hope into one book and it is wondrous. Emma has been through hell… and back… and she's still trying to get through the pitfalls…. Until a good part of the past comes calling…. She knew Eduardo from childhood and they meet again. Their chemistry is amazing!! I love their relationship as they make it work, despite all of the impending forces. The suspense is one curve after another and I am here for it!!! I really enjoyed this one!! A heads up, please be sure and check the content warnings as this book deals with some difficult subjects.

L. Renee Richard wrote a gripping dark mafia romance with so many twists, found family, and second chance love. It had me sitting on the edge of my seat from the prologue. The huge life event that occurs leaves you wanting to find out the full story. I loved reading about Emma and Eduardo’s childhood crush and their reconnecting as adults into a very steamy relationship. Eduardo becoming a cinnamon roll with Emma was such a treat because he is morally gray but genuinely wants to keep Emma safe, make her his but also doesn’t want to take away her choices! With that cliffhanger, I can’t wait to read the next book!

This is Book 1 in the Forged Hearts Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a second chance romance between childhood crushes, Emma and Eduardo. These characters are likeable, the connection strong, and the unique plot makes for an entertaining read. Once they reconnect, it is an emotional journey with drama and steam, forgiveness and redemption, sexual tension and chemistry, and engaging secondary characters. An engaging page turner.

Heat level: 2/5. This is the first novel I've read by this author. It was a very interesting story. I feared the MMC we're introduced to was the love interest, but I'm glad I kept reading to see he wasn't. This childhood friends to lovers, second chance romance was such rollercoaster ride. What I hoped was true came out as a twist in the end and I was so happy. I want to read the next one to see the rest of the revenge done. The only reason I didn't give this story 5 stars was sometimes dialogue and parts of the sex scenes sounded off to me. Almost formal, stiff, or clinical which throws off the flow.

Not going to lie the beginning was slow. But that’s the only thing that bothered me.
By about 40% of the way through I was hooked.
Emma and Eduardo, their love story was beautiful.
Emma made some dumb decisions throughout the book but, she was young and it was choices I feel a girl her age would have made in real life.
I couldn’t stop reading to see what happened in the end. And wow was it a twist I did not see coming
Now I can not wait to read the second book to see where the story goes
