Summer Hustle: A hot mess of sweat, spice, and sarcasm

Rate this book
She’s there to save the gym. He’s the reason she keeps losing focus, and her panties.

Molly Quinn is out of options. No money, no apartment, and no backup plan, just a marketing degree and a closet full of clothes that scream “girlboss” louder than her bank account ever did. When she lands a job at Southside Strength, a gritty South Philly gym in desperate need of help, she’s hoping it’s a stepping stone. Or at least a temporary distraction from her rapidly spiraling life.

She wasn’t expecting Nic Rosetti.

Grumpy. Brooding. Hot as sin. He hates attention, loathes cameras, and wants nothing to do with social media, or Molly’s plan to save the gym with a fresh coat of paint and a few viral reels. He’s spent years trying to stay out of the spotlight, and now this infuriating, pink-lip-gloss-wearing whirlwind is setting up ring lights in his sanctuary.

Their tension is immediate. And combustible.

One heated moment turns into a full-on meltdown, and now neither of them can quit. Not the hookups. Not the fighting. And definitely not whatever this is turning into.

The gym is still on the brink. Their lives are still a mess.

And the last thing either of them expected… is that maybe they’ve finally met their match.

Book 2 in the Summer Series by Brooke Straiton, Summer Hustle is a standalone spicy romantic comedy full of laugh-out-loud, emotionally-charged, extra-steamy moments about falling hard for the one person who pushes all your buttons and knows exactly how hard to press them.

If you like your romance packed with sexy workouts, sarcastic one-liners, and characters who can’t decide whether to fight or make out, this one’s for you.

Tropes you’ll find
✓ Grumpy sunshine
✓ Slow burn
✓ Workplace romance
✓ Forced proximity
✓ Found family
✓ The hot guy teaches her how to lift (and it’s very suggestive)

Hi, I’m Brooke Straiton—rom-com author, chaos wrangler, and the woman most likely to cry over a reality dating show like it’s high art. I write spicy, hilarious, and emotionally unhinged contemporary romance with heart, heat, and an occasional butt plug joke (you’ve been warned).

My debut series, Summer Heat, takes place on a fictional reality show and includes undercover missions, ex-NFL players, and more sexual tension than a shared shower scene. Book 2, Summer Hustle, turns up the heat in a gritty South Philly gym. It has enemies-to-lovers, gym sex, and a girl who thinks she’s there to save the business—but he’s the reason it’s falling apart. Book 3, Summer Heartbreak, is coming soon and yes, there’s an ex, an ex’s brother, and a bad decision in a barn.

Unfortunately I also find the need to address the use of AI in my books. I have been very transparent about my usage of AI for organizational and editing purposes. However, at no point do I use GENERATIVE or unethical AI which is the source of all the controversy and outrage. My words, characters, plots, and ideas all come from my own brain. Hopefully that clears it up.

When I’m not writing, I run a photography studio in Bucks County, PA, blast 90s hip-hop while editing videos, and bribe my husband to appear in TikToks he didn’t agree to be in.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the early review copy of this book. These opinions are my own.

My Unhinged and Messy Thoughts
I love the short chapters that actually have titles. That’s right. You heard it here first — Brooke Straiton has chapter titles in her books! I feel like that just never happens anymore and I actually miss it. But enough with that, let’s dive into what I loved about this book. It’s super easy… everything. I don’t know Brooke’s secret but she is a phenomenal writer. She has the best banter, the best tension, the best plot points, and she’s the best at figuring out where spice should go without it being over the top or cringey. Seriously, this Indie Author needs a huge book deal for this Summer series. First we had Summer Heat that literally felt like a reality TV show and now we have Summer Hustle which feels like an early 2000’s sports romance movie like The Replacements, Just Wright, Fever Pitch etc. I love that there were some cameos in this one from the first book. I’ve been blessed with the ARC of book 3 and really hope I can get the one for book 4 as well. I’m loving Brooke Straiton and cannot wait to share more about her books!

I received an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, this review is my honest opinion!

Note: After finishing the book, I stumbled upon a post where the author announced that they use AI to help organize their characters and their backstory, to edit and rework paragraphs if they don’t sound right, and create images of the characters using her own descriptions of the characters. I do not support the use of genAI in any form for writing books or for any character art and think it is right to warn other readers who may stumble upon the book and feel the same way. Due to the authors use of AI, I will not be reading any other books by this author.

Here is the link for post in reference: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1YxJ...

I really enjoyed this book, I ended up getting hooked from the start and finished the book quickly. Prior to knowing about the AI, I did enjoy the characters, the spice and the overall story. Due to the authors AI usage, I personally do not reccomend reading this book if you do not support AI. I am also choosing not to leave a star rating on the review.

Solid 4⭐️ read!!

If you are looking for a grumpy x sunshine , dom/sub, acts of service, steamy treat - look no further!

This book was delightfully fun and spicy!

The chemistry between the two main characters was PALPAPLE. The small-town vibe of this book added a nice touch of found family. The side characters all definitely have their own personalities and gave a lot of humor and heart to the story.

Truly the only reason I am not rating it 5 stars personally is because I didn't get ✨️that feeling✨️ but I can totally see how it could be someone else's!

5/5 ⭐️ NetGalley

Could not fault this read - kept me engaged and intrigued from the get go.
Former MMA fighter meets a social marketing manager for the gym he co-owns, what could go wrong ?
He’s mysterious and closed off and she’s tempting to him from the moment she walks in.

Very well written.

Summer Hustle is a fantastic Grumpy vs. Sunshine romantic comedy that had me hooked from the start. The male main character (MMC) is the perfect blend of grumpy and golden-hearted—moody in all the best ways, but undeniably lovable. He’s the kind of character who grows on you with every scene.

The female main character (FMC) was written perfectly. She’s strong, confident, and relatable, with just the right touch of girly charm. One of my favorite parts was how the author portrayed the everyday struggles of going to the gym—it was hilarious and incredibly true to life. It made her feel like someone you could actually know (or be!).

If you're looking for a light, laugh-out-loud rom-com with heart, Summer Hustle delivers. It’s the perfect read for fans of witty banter, feel-good romance, and the classic opposites-attract trope.

4 stars for me. My first book by this author, and it will not be the last.

Molly Quinn has no choice, her ex put her in the debt, and there is no other options then accept a job at Southside Strength gym. She have to help the owner to get more clients and make it more popular.
One of the workers/owners Nic Rosetti, don't like the idea of Molly walking and making videos.

Trough workouts, tension and just hookup maybe they find more then they expected?

I enjoyed this book, Molly dislike and suffering the workouts make me laugh, I understand her pain:)).The chemistry between Molly and Nic was executed well, they didn't just meet and jump at each other, there was first dislike, cutting comments, heated conversation, and then explosion. Hot,hot hot.
Read the warnings first.

Overall I would recommend this book for steamy, fun romance fans.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for my copy.

This was super intense and I loved it!

Molly was such a vibe, she started the book with literally two suitcases and her willpower, and ended it with the job of her dreams and the man of her fantasies. Total girlboss babe

Also, I don’t know what’s with me but a dominant/broody guy that’s also a consent king? I was weak at the knees every time Nic said “use your words” or “baby, I need words” before going feral.

I loved loved loved the first book of the series, and my heart was ecstatic with every character from summer heat that we saw or heard about here. I love the interconnected stories.

It’s not five stars for me because I found myself skimming a bit after the 50% mark, some of it felt like it dragged a little too much. But I would most certainly recommend it, and I will be reading book three when it’s out.

I received this book through NetGalley and am leaving a review voluntarily.

It’s 1 AM as I’m writing this review. I couldn’t put this book down and read it in one sitting! GrumpyXsunshine with a bit of dom/sub. The spice is spicing in this book, and there’s plenty of tension too. 🥵🌶️

This story had me literally laughing out loud. The side characters are all amazing. They add so much to the story. Tina is hilarious! The storyline and character development were solid and executed well.

This book is absolutely worth a read! I already downloaded the author’s other book and can’t wait to read it!

And I did read the acknowledgements. Can I please get five points for Ravenclaw instead of Gryffindor? And can you please keep writing books like this?! Thanks!

This was really fun, steamy and funny summer read.
The gym members were very entertaining and made me laugh out loud at times. I really loved viral blooper reels chapter.

Nic and Molly had a great chemistry and great banter. Lots of spice. I would have liked to have seen a little more about their background. The author only touched on it here and there but never a complete answer. The story as a whole was a fun easy

This was easily one of the best books I’ve read lately!

Nic and Molly have a chemistry and banter that was displayed perfectly throughout the story. Nic was a broody trainer and coworker while Molly was bubbly and determined, despite her setbacks in her life. One thing that I loved about this story was that it touched on their backstories but didn’t focus the entire story on their history and demons.

There were a few unexpected twists in the story and some side characters that weren’t super important to the story. The ending did feel a little rushed but the overall story itself was fast paced and energetic which was great.

Overall, 4.5/5 ⭐️ with 3 🌶️ because some of the scenes between Nic and Molly were SPICY😅

This book is hilarious. The first in a long time to make me actually laugh out loud. The chemistry between Nic and Molly is off the charts hot. I took pictures of a couple spots in the story to send to my husband, laughing the entire time, both because they were funny, and because maybe they could be inspiration for our own lives. If you like your books with hilarious banter and a whole lot of spice, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Summer Hustle by Brooke Straiton is a fun and flirty gym romance that surprised me in the best way. Fitness and gym settings aren’t usually what I gravitate toward, so I wasn’t sure how much I’d connect with the story. But once I got into it, I found myself really enjoying the ride.

What makes this book shine is the relationship between the main characters. Their banter feels natural, the attraction builds quickly but believably and there’s a playful energy that keeps the story moving. Even though I’m not a “gym person,” the setting never felt overwhelming or too technical—it was just the backdrop for a romance that had me smiling more often than not.

And buckle up for plenty of spice. The intimate scenes are not only frequent, but also well-written.

Overall, Summer Hustle is the kind of book you pick up when you want something light, sexy and easy to sink into. It’s a great summer read, whether you’re at the beach, poolside, or just looking for an escape into a fun romance with plenty of heat.

I hope you’ll call me good girl and give the points to gryffindor (it happens to be my house)

This was really fun, steamy and well very spicy (but you’re warned by the author at the beginning so, can I really complain)

The side characters were very enjoyable and entertaining. I really loved the chapter with the clip videos, it was relatable and well written.

Nic and Molly had a great chemistry. I love a good banter as well! The spice scenes were like a new generation of 50 shades of Grey and were legit guilty pleasure but aren’t we adult here!

I liked that there were more to them and that there were some character growth in there.

The end felt like those christmas movie ending well. Maybe Nic was a bit too soft there. I think I’d loved to see more of Nic’s Mom, more of their own background. I do believe it’s hard to go in depth in 310 pages but it felt like I knew more about the side characters than Nic and Molly by the end of the book.

The whole book felt like those books Rachel in Friends would read and share to Joey 😉.

Side note : the author admitted to using AI to help in rephrasing, organizing the characters, reworking paragraphs. Every post on her position on her facebook account. As this is a controversial topic, up to us readers to have a critical thinking about it and either way is ok, no judgement ☺️. As for me, I think I won’t be reading more of the author.

Summer Hustle was pure serotonin. The kind of book that wraps around you like warm sunlight and doesn’t let go. It had everything I love in a summer romance. Chaotic ambition, laugh-out-loud banter, swoony slow-burn heat, and just enough emotional depth to make it stick with you.

The chemistry between Nic and Molly was off the charts. The main character was messy and real in the best way. And the whole story felt like a love letter to figuring it out as you go. It struck the perfect balance between hilarious and heartfelt.

Brooke Straiton captured the magic of a transformative summer and turned it into something that feels fun, fresh, and genuinely empowering. I devoured this and didn’t want it to end. Add this to your TBR immediately if you want something that brings the sunshine with a side of sass.

I'll start by saying this book was steamier than I expected, and I loved it!

One of the things that attracted me to this book was that it is set in a gym. I'd never read books set in gyms, and this book didn't disappoint. This book managed to transmit that sense of community we feel when we go to the gym, when we workout with people who end up becoming friends.

I have found this feeling and have found amazing people along the way; and this book made me look at my gym community and appreciate them for who and what they are.

The romance in this book was just the added bonus, the cherry on top.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I guarantee that you will enjoy it, laugh out loud with some of the crazy antics of the characters, and the next moment you will just want to hug them.

Enjoyed this book so much!
It's  Grumpy/Sunshine, Enemies 2 Lovers, Workplace romance.

Molly is a Marketing Content Producer hired to improve and promote Southside Strength a gym that ex-MMA fighter "Nic" is a silent partner of.

They don't hit it off straight away but oh boy! When they do!? Look out! There is some Dom behavior and binding that is so 🔥

The depiction of gym-life and member friendships and bonding was so much fun to read.

Loved this: 𝖨 𝗌𝗎𝖽𝖽𝖾𝗇𝗅𝗒 𝗎𝗇𝖽𝖾𝗋𝗌𝗍𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝗐𝗁𝗒 𝗀𝗒𝗆 𝗆𝖾𝗆𝖻𝖾𝗋𝗌 𝖻𝖾𝖼𝗈𝗆𝖾 𝗌𝗎𝖼𝗁 𝖺 𝖼𝗅𝗈𝗌𝖾 𝗄𝗇𝗂𝗍 𝖼𝗈𝗆𝗆𝗎𝗇𝗂𝗍𝗒. 𝖶𝖾 𝖺𝗋𝖾 𝖺𝗅𝗅 𝗍𝗋𝖺𝗎𝗆𝖺 𝖻𝗈𝗇𝖽𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝗍𝗁𝗋𝗈𝗎𝗀𝗁 𝗌𝗁𝖺𝗋𝖾𝖽 𝗌𝗎𝖿𝖿𝖾𝗋𝗂𝗇𝗀. 𝖯𝖾𝗈𝗉𝗅𝖾 𝖿𝗋𝗈𝗆 𝖽𝗂𝖿𝖿𝖾𝗋𝖾𝗇𝗍 𝗐𝖺𝗅𝗄𝗌 𝗈𝖿 𝗅𝗂𝖿𝖾, 𝖺𝗀𝖾𝗌, 𝖺𝗇𝖽 𝖻𝖺𝖼𝗄𝗀𝗋𝗈𝗎𝗇𝖽𝗌, 𝖺𝗅𝗅 𝗎𝗇𝗂𝗍𝖾𝖽 𝖻𝗒 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖿𝖺𝖼𝗍 𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍 𝗐𝖾 𝗁𝖺𝗍𝖾 𝗍𝗁𝗂𝗌. 𝖳𝗈𝗀𝖾𝗍𝗁𝖾𝗋.

Summer Hustle is a sizzling, laugh-out-loud grumpy-sunshine romance with enough heat, heart, and gym-floor tension to keep you hooked from start to finish. Molly Quinn is a chaotic, determined girlboss trying to save a struggling South Philly gym—and Nic Rosetti is the broody, maddeningly hot trainer standing in her way. Their chemistry is instant, explosive, and deliciously messy.

The banter? Sharp.
The spice? Scorching.
The emotional payoff? Surprisingly tender.

Brooke Straiton balances the steam with heartfelt character growth, giving us flawed, lovable leads whose sparks evolve into something deeper. While some plot points lean a little familiar, the dynamic energy between Molly and Nic makes this a standout.

Perfect for fans of workplace romance, slow-burn tension, and emotionally messy leads who can’t stop pushing each other’s buttons—in every way possible.

I really enjoyed Hustle Summer! The story moved quickly, which made it super easy to get into — I found myself flying through the pages. I liked how the tension built early on and how the plot didn’t waste time getting started.

That said, some parts felt a little rushed, especially at the beginning. I would’ve loved just a bit more time with the characters to deepen the emotional connection. But overall, I appreciated how everything came together in the end — it was satisfying without being overdone.

This is a great read if you’re looking for something fast-paced and engaging, with a strong summer vibe and just the right amount of drama and heart. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for more from Brooke Straiton!

Ooof, this book!

I really enjoyed this story and LOVED Molly! As a social media manager myself, it was nice to see us depicted accurately and to see that we do in fact, have so much fun planning content, and heck yes, we are smart!

The spice in this book... well, it was certainly spicing! It was a little more aggressive than I normally enjoy, but I think that was mostly because of Nic being an MMA fighter and generally all around grumpy! It would have been nice to see more of his softer side!

I did find that the repetitive nature of each point of view for certain moments a little, not boring, but it made me a little frustrated!

The humour, though? HILARIOUS! There were so many quotes I saved!

Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial, for this intense read!

Sold 3.5!! I had a fun time reading this. Grumpy X Sunshine is one of my favorite tropes. Nic was a grumpy MMC. He did make me mad in some chapters, but in a good way. Molly Quinn, she’s super cute!!! I love that she’s bold and always pushing Nic’s buttons. The banter and chemistry between the two good lord!!! This book was so funny, it had my type of humor. I was giggling and kicking my feet. I needed a quick summer read, and it was a good one.
