A royal murder shatters Lady Elizabeth Hawthorne's family holiday on the glamorous French Riviera. Under pressure to quell the scandal and preserve Cannes' reputation as a playground for the wealthy, the Chief Inspector hastily targets Elizabeth's cousin, the cash-strapped Earl of Wexford – the very man Aunt Beatrice had hoped would wed the ill-fated princess and save his crumbling estate.
Convinced of the Earl's innocence, Elizabeth and her cousin Meli launch their own investigation, only to uncover a tangled web of secrets, scandals, and hidden motives among the glittering Riviera elite. As shocking truths emerge, Elizabeth realises that in this world of opulence and deceit, no-one is who they claim to be.
With Alexander's freedom at stake and the family's reputation on the line, Elizabeth must navigate a treacherous maze of lies and shifting alliances to unmask the killer before it's too late.
In this gilded cage of luxury and vice, can she trust anyone?
Immerse yourself in the dazzling intrigue of 1920s France as you follow Elizabeth on a heart-pounding race to solve the mystery. Brimming with suspense and shocking twists, this captivating whodunit will keep you guessing until the final, breathtaking revelation.
I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review. This is a good clean fast read series that keeps getting better. Lady Elizabeth and her cousin Meli have to find a murderer that has their cousin Alexander as the only suspect. Lots of red herrings, and suspense as Lady Elizabeth sleuths out the murderer. This book is hard to put down and can be read in one sitting. I can't wait for the next one in the series.
This was the first time I read a book by Olivia Rose. The Murder on the French Riviera was a good, clean, suspenseful mystery, like an early twentieth-century who-dun-it.
Lady Elizabeth is a quasi-sleuth who, along with her cousin Meli, helps the French police find the actual murderer while her cousin Alexander sits in jail charged with the crime. Along with her stuffy Aunt Beatrice and a cast of unsavory and exciting characters, this adventurous story kept me guessing. I was in stitches several times throughout the book. With a good plot and several great plot twists, the author created a great story loaded with suspense, wit, and several well-developed oddball characters.
I couldn’t put the book down. It intrigued me from start to finish. The cover art and book jacket synopsis hooked me. I found this book to be a pleasant surprise. Please give it a whirl on your next rainy, weekend, or lounging day. You will love this book if you like a quick, witty mystery with the occasional annoying character and a strong female protagonist.
A five-star cozy mystery perfect for a sea day or a private vacation away from life for a few hours. It’s a fast read, quite cute, and enjoyable.
I received this as a free, advanced copy. This review is voluntary and is mine alone.
I received an advanced copy of this title for free provided by Booksirens and this review is being provided voluntarily without reservation. The author is poetic in her usage of descriptive language. As you read you can imagine the scenery and costumes of characters all around. The usage of descriptive language can get very wordy at times especially towards the end when you just want to know who done it. But I did appreciate the details and the character development. I felt the rollercoaster of the characters’ emotions throughout, especially the main character, Elizabeth. I appreciated lady Elizabeth’s observation skills definitely helped her through out and her genuine compassion for her family and others. What would have pushed it to a 5 star read is a more developed, twistier ending. I feel there was so much build up then it went so fast and left some questions for me. Overall this was a very enjoyable read and I am interested in reading other Lady Hawthorne Mysteries.
Aunt Beatrice was not to my liking at all. She was stiff and overly formal and a bit full of herself and much too pushy with Alexander and his future. I liked Elizabeth's courage to investigate. She found clues where others were lacking- ie: police! She put the pieces together and came to an astounding conclusion. Thankfully Alexander's future is sorted out without further interference from Beatrice. A very entertaining and enjoyable mystery. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
A murder of a royal princess - how scandalous, how sad and how tragic, especially when Aunt Beatrice had decided that she would marry Lord Alexander, her bestie's son. But perhaps not that heartbreaking as Alexander's heart belonged elsewhere. But does murder really help this love triangle?
I have read all the Lady Elizabeth's books and I must say (without being condescending) that they are getting better and meatier. This one gives Meli more of a piece of the stage which is great and all the characters are developing very well. Good read.
Page turning escapades ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a phenomenal read ~ to quote Lady Elizabeth ~ a whirlwind of danger, intrigue, and unexpected alliances! It's fast paced action especially in the last few chapters and was impossible to put down till I'd finished! Lady Elizabeth is no vapid shrinking violet ~ she's got a brilliant deductive mind and faces danger head on! Meli is a bright addition to the action. There's also a bonus scene available which is best read after the book!
A truly wonderful mystery…. however I think if it more as an old fashioned caper. Lady Elizabeth and her impetuous cousin Meli, need to find out who the real murderer is whilst their cousin Alexander is falsely accused of the crime and has been arrested. Lady Elizabeth and Meli are in danger ….Read the story it is very interesting and entertaining.

This was a lovely read. The amateur detective and her family are very engaging, especially crusty old Aunt Beatrice whose ‘bark is worse than her bite.
This was a good ‘whodunnit’ with plenty of possible suspects and people who weren’t who they purported to be.
All in all, it was great fun.

This is an enjoyable cozy mystery series set in the 1920's. This time Lady Elizabeth and the gang are in Cannes when a body is found and one of the family is arrested. Lady Elizabeth knows her cousin is innocent and has to prove it before the scandal hits the papers and reputations are irrevocably harmed. There are a lot of twists as secrets are revealed. This book can be read as a standalone.
This was really fun as Lady Elizabeth, her Aunt and her companion and her Cousin Meli head off to France to enjoy a vacation she spots her Cousin Alexander. At the hotel they meet a Princess who flirts with her Cousin Alexander and then is found dead. Alexander is arrested and Lady Elizabeth is determined to find the killer. This was so fun and I recommend it.
Lady Elizabeth is facing both a mystery and juggling her aunt's interference in this one. I loved that her cousin was able to join her for this one. Interesting to see how things twist and turn to get to a satisfying ending.
I had hopes after seeing the great reviews. Sadly, I couldn't get beyond the first chapter. Was there a sale on adjectives? The overblown, repetitive prose defeated me.
