A short collection of essays that pack a punch. Full of invitations, stories, and wisdom, this book is barely 100 pages but serves as a clear, earnest guide as to what Indigenous knowledge has to offer our suffering country.
My favorites were, THE PATH FORWARD: TRANSFORMING EDUCATION WITH INDIGENOUS WISDOM and STORIES AS MEDICINE: THE POWER OF NARRATIVE IN HEALING.
Hard to put into words what my heart feels….This has motivated me to be more proactive in connecting with Indigenous communities close to home as they can relate to my position in the community as a parent, teacher, and librarian.
We need ALL the support and wisdom that modern science and Indigenous practices millenia in the making can provide to bring our world together. We need to stop isolating our development as human beings into boxes, subjects, letter grades, and numbers. It’s time to educate ourselves and the future generations with whole-body and whole-heart seeing. This book makes that seem possible. I feel less alone after this read.
A beautiful book about the power of embracing indigenous wisdom alongside newer technologies and eurocentric systems of education. Darren Parry uses stories throughout the chapters to teach lessons and to communicate the value of the indigenous place based knowledge. This is a very inspiring and hopeful book to read in such today's political climate. How can we do more to build community with the people, plants, animals, water, sky, and earth around us?
A great look at the world and the potential if Indigenous voices were not only listened to but relied on for guidance. Parry explores all aspects of life, including education, land use, etc.
