She was raised in a palace built on lies. Now she must decide if she's ready to burn it down.
In the kingdom of Alinora, magic is a weapon of control, and 26-year-old Princess Ciara has become her father’s sharpest tool. Trained to deceive, she plays the role of the spoiled royal – masking her sharp mind and darker truths to protect her people and the only person she cares about. But when whispers of a long-buried rebellion begin to rise and the cracks in her father’s rule widen, Ciara finds herself caught in a dangerous game of secrets and power.
As strange surges of magic awaken within her and a prophecy she was never meant to fulfill begins to take shape, Ciara must navigate fragile alliances and unravel the lies she was raised on – before the kingdom she was born to inherit collapses from within.
First I should say that I’m not 100% the target of this book. I usually read fantasy without the romance subplot but this was a pretty good introduction to the romantasy genre or whatever you want to call it.
I got an ARC and I must admit I was positively surprised. I loved the character dynamic and how despite not being the most complex book ever, it still had stakes and kept me hooked.
Though I saw some things coming I loved how they were executed and how the book ended.
For the right audience, this will be “unputdownable”. Can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!
Although this isn’t my usual genre (I’m more of an everyday-life fiction reader), I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It was such an easy read that I flew through it, and once I started, I wanted to read more and really got in. I can’t wait to see how the story evolves throughout the series. The writing made it easy to picture Alinora in my head, and I completely understood the HOTNESS of her bodyguard: Joran❤️🔥
Lucky to have received an ARC! I loved the book and its characters and was hooked from the very beginning. I need the sequel ASAP to find out what happens. A great debut!!
One of the best original stories I’ve read in a while. I Absolutley LOVED this book, the writing, the world and the characters. Ms. Allen I love you and can not wait to read more of your work in the future
