WOW… WHAT A WAY TO START A NEW SERIES!!! Eternal Fire by Mariah Stone is book one in the Threads of Time series and I can’t even tell you how great this book was. So much action and I found myself saying… I didn’t see that coming. This time traveler story is was so very well written and I found myself escaping into another time and place. I could not put this book down. Mariah has a true knack for writing such am axing books and this one did not disappoint. I am holding my breath for book 2 in this series to see what is going to happen. This story has a women cop, a viking port owner who was conceived in the 21 century and born in the 900s, a family to support, drug smuggling, the mafia, being a suspect, on the brink of losing their job, misunderstandings, telling the truth, the end of the world, riots, climate change, starvation, a time machine and find in love when they were not looking for it. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and you will not be able to put it down. I am highly recommending this book.

I have not read the related novel to this series, but the opening sets the action in move.
From there beginning a non-stop violence, betrayal, lies tale.
Channing as he has to reinvent himself to become the man he is today, a man with no place to belong and only dreams and a goal to sustain him. My heart ached for him. The loneliness and pain to know he could not intervene and has to live with the open wound it leaves in his heart.
Ella is different, she has known heartache and loss but not to the degree of Channing. She is surrounded by love when he has no one.
She might struggle to make ends meet, she has a warm and caring home to go back, even when days are challenging.
I won’t summarize the story, there are too much to tell, too many side characters. Just Channing and Ella each stands on one side of the law, as well as at the river of time’s shore. How will they manage to come together when both worlds will do anything to make him disappear, you will have to read it.
My biggest complain is it ends on the worst of the cliffhanger and my brain only pictures the worst to come for the heroes, more specifically for Ella. And when I checked the release date for book two, it is so far away. I so dislike being left hanging like that.
Why I was torn how to rate this book, I loved the adventure and hated the end.
So I decided to compromise to 4 stars rate. Had I have the next books in my hands, it would have been higher.

Another great read! A twist from Mariah Stone other time travel series, but I haven’t read them all. The story is about Channing who travels from Viking 9th century to present day Boston. His only goal is return home. Channing has adjusted well to the 21st century and after 14 years here he is even a billionaire, giving him enough funds to build a time machine. The world around him has changed, riots, unrest, blizzards in October, wolves in the city. So many signs of the end coming.
Trying to avoid a crazy driver, Ella almost runs into a crowd of rioters. Not a good thing for a police officer to do. Her partner catches the license plate number and Ella is out for revenge. When their paths across it is the most beautiful man she ever has seen. Channing feels the pull to the angry police officer and so the tension begins. Action packed throughout, the bad thing was that it ended in a cliffhanger…..I want to keep reading! Write fast Mariah, can’t wait to read it next installment.

Oh my gosh what a journey! You have swept us up in the magic and mystery of Norse mythology and I loved every moment of it! I love Ella’s spirt she is a fighter and doesn’t take no for an answer and goes toe to toe with Channing. She is trying to fight the strong unearthly pull that she has to Channing, she looses in the end. Channing is this Viking warrior out of time, thrusted into the modern world but still has that Norse/ Viking way about him. When Channing and Ella meet for the first time there is something unearthly connection between them and there is no going back from there. The mystery of who Ella’s mother truly is, I have my guesses, but I will not reveal them. Can’t not wait to learn if I am right in the Later books. “How can she understand Old Norse???” amongst other things..They are good together, great couple. He is so good with her family,especially her brother. Can’t wait for the next book so you can FIX the cliffhanger ending you gave us!!

Excellent start to a new series. This time travel story moves in the opposite direction of all Ms Stone’s other books, from the past to present day. The characters are well-developed, and the storyline grabs your interest from the start and won’t let go. The action scenes throughout the pages keep the reader on the edge of their seat at times. The heat between Ella and Channing builds quickly the more they see each other. With an awesome cliff hanger at the end, I will definitely be reading the next book in this trilogy. It can’t come fast enough.

Great start to a new series! The author brings strong characters and weaves an interesting time travel romance. It's well written and moves fluidly with detailed and descriptive scenes. I enjoyed and would recommend reading.

No…no…no…I hate cliffhangers! This is a great story, great characters, action from beginning to end, it is entirely different from a lot of stories I’ve read but I hate the ending.

Channing and Ella’s story was one of the best I have read in a long time! Conceived in the 20th century, born in 829 Norse and by magic he is thrown back into the 20th century. A beautiful police detective who is struggling to keep her job and her family cross paths with a suspect with strange beginnings. Their story is filled with intrigue, mystery, danger, sex and mystical characters. I couldn’t stop reading it. Now I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Fated – Die Bestimmung von Mariah Stone

Ulf hatte einen Plan. Ulf wollte im neunten Jahrhundert bleiben, aber das Schicksal hat einen anderen Plan und schickt ihn unter seinem bürgerlichen Namen Channing, ins 21. Jahrhundert. Sein Ziel? Wieder zurück in seiner Zeit zu seiner Familie. Denn Channing ist doch viel mehr Wikinger als Geschäftsmann. Aber wird das Schicksal oder viel mehr die Wissenschaft ihm diesen Wunsch gewähren?
Ella hat ebenfalls ein Ziel: ihre Familie versorgen. Doch leider ist ihr Job in Gefahr. Doch nicht nur ihr Job ist gefährdet. In ihrer Heimatstadt Boston passieren komische Dinge: Wölfe lungern in der Stadt, Umweltphänomene, Proteste und Unruhen. Und dann noch der große Drogenfund im Hafen von Boston. Alles scheint seltsam miteinander verbunden.
Das Buch Fated – Die Bestimmung war mein erstes Buch der Autorin Mariah Stone. Fated – Die Bestimmung ist der Auftakt der „Im Bann des Schicksals“-Reihe. Band 2 (Fated – Die Erlösung) und Band 3 (Fated – Der Untergang) erscheint im Januar 2024. Mariah Stone ist für ihre Zeitreisen-romane bekannt. Ihr Fokus liegt hierbei auf starke weiblichen Charaktere, welche mit Piraten, Wikinger oder Highlander konfrontiert werden.
Der Schreibstil von Mariah Stone war ansprechend, phasenweise richtig schön allerdings gab es auch Abschnitte welche ein wenig plump wirkten. Die Kombination aus Zeitreisen, Dystopie, Spice, Wikinger und kriminal/detektiv-Geschichte hatte ich so noch nie gesehen und so auch nicht erwartet.
Die Charaktere machen eine spannende Entwicklungen durch und ich wurde grade mit Ella sehr schnell warm. Die Bindung von Ella und Channing wirkt fast ein wenig Fourth-Wing-esk und erinnerte mich sehr an die Beziehung von Xaden und Violet.
Fated – Die Bestimmung hat mich schlussendlich echt gepackt und mitgerissen. Folglich bin ich mehr als gespannt, wie die Geschichte in Band 2 und 3 weiter geht.

Das Buch Fated – Die Bestimmung war mein erstes Buch der Autorin Mariah Stone. Fated – Die Bestimmung ist der Auftakt der „Im Bann des Schicksals“-Reihe. Band 2 (Fated – Die Erlösung) und Band 3 (Fated – Der Untergang) erscheint im Januar 2024. Mariah Stone ist für ihre Zeitreisen-romane bekannt. Ihr Fokus liegt hierbei auf starke weiblichen Charaktere, welche mit Piraten, Wikinger oder Highlander konfrontiert werden.
Der Schreibstil von Mariah Stone war ansprechend, phasenweise richtig schön allerdings gab es auch Abschnitte welche ein wenig plump wirkten. Die Kombination aus Zeitreisen, Dystopie, Spice, Wikinger und kriminal/detektiv-Geschichte hatte ich so noch nie gesehen und so auch nicht erwartet.
Die Charaktere machen eine spannende Entwicklungen durch und ich wurde grade mit Ella sehr schnell warm. Die Bindung von Ella und Channing wirkt fast ein wenig Fourth-Wing-esk und erinnerte mich sehr an die Beziehung von Xaden und Violet.
Fated – Die Bestimmung hat mich schlussendlich echt gepackt und mitgerissen. Folglich bin ich mehr als gespannt, wie die Geschichte in Band 2 und 3 weiter geht.

An excellent dystopian time travel romance that was not expected from this author. I enjoyed how she incorporated so many of the elements in our world today to lay the foundation for this outstanding storyline which is the first in a trilogy. The only thing that I did not like was that this book ends on a cliff-hanger and I am not a fan of those in any way, shape or form. Other than that, this book is definitely worth reading.

Mariah Stone is one of my all time favorite authors. I’ve enjoyed her time travel stories so much. Eternal Fire: A time travel romance (Threads of Time Book 1) is a great way to start a new series!
Billionaire Channing Hakonson is of Norse descent, born in the ninth century as Ulf, son of Hakon, he has to flee to the future to save his family. Raised as a Viking, and thrown into the modern-day world against his will Channing becomes a successful but lonely billionaire with one thought in mind, build a time travel machine to return to his family. Owning the Port of Boston he comes under suspicion for drug trafficking when the mafia wants to control the port which is how he meets Ella. Some believe according to the prophecy, he is the reason for Ragnarök Twilight of the Gods and has to die.
Ella O'Conner is a detective with the Boston P.D. trying break up a drug smuggling ring. Her thoughts are for her family too. Her mother left when she was four years old , leaving only a piece of tapestry behind, her father is wheelchair bound and she is working towards helping him and her extended family to survive. In 2021 Boston there seems to be mayhem and strange forces wreaking havoc as well.
Channing and Ella have both known tragedy in their lives. When they meet while Ella is investigating a drug trafficking ring there’s an instant connection and an undeniable bond that neither her can deny. They are two fascinating characters, complex, well drawn and defined.
Mariah Stone is known for her fantastic characters, great world building, intriguing plots, and beautiful love stories. In this wonderful series she once again weaves the threads of magic creating a tale of romance and adventure. They are more twists in this story than a country road, it’s chock full of action, mystery, intrigue, secrets and love. I loved it as I have all of her books. I wasn’t prepared for the cliffhanger at the end of the though. While I would normally avoid such books, if only because I am so impatient, I still have to admit that I loved and enjoyed this entertaining story! For me, that was the only drawback, otherwise she’s done another amazing job!

A riveting read starts this new series off, original scenario wonderful characters
I have been waiting earnestly for this new series and I have to say that I was not at all disappointed it was simply wonderful, the characters were unforgettable and the scenario was absolutely amazing.
Channing has completely reinvented himself and in doing so now believes that he is a much better man than he was previously but he has left himself without friends, family and all he seems to live for now is his work and nothing else.
Ella is a different kettle of fish and although she has known heartache and loss, she has still continued on with her life in the best way she can, she is generous of soul and even though she is poor would never turn away anyone in need. She has however been working very hard on one particular case and now that Channing is nearly in her net she breaks an oath by allowing her heart to rule her head by being more than just a little involved with a suspect.
I do not want to go in to the plot too much because I do not want to spoil the plot for other readers but this is a classic tale of love, betrayal, hate and loneliness, and a need too be loved and needed so desperately you can almost feel it with every breath.
As well as the time travel element and the desire to return to that time if at all possible after trying to build a piece of apparatus that would allow this transportation if at all possible.
I will not say any more than this so I hope that like myself you will be as enamoured with this book as I am and also with these characters and the plot.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

I love Mariah Stone's books and with the start of a new series, a trilogy, which goes beyond her previous books, you are once again drawn into time travelers.
In an earlier book by Mariah Stone, you read about a woman in the 21st century who ends up in 8th century with Vikings. Pregnant with a man who abused her, she falls in love with a Viking. Going back to her own time meant saying goodbye to her beloved. If he gets the chance to get her back, he will. (The Marriage of Time)
This story begins with the son, conceived in the 21st century, raised in the 8th century, who chooses to stay there with his family. An event causes him to be seduced by the 3 Norns and ends up in the year 2007.
All the while he is desperately looking for a way to get back to his mother, stepfather, sister and brother. He doesn't form relationships, works hard for what he achieves and tries to build a time machine with his money. He's almost there when he meets police officer Ella. She investigates his involvement in cocaine smuggling through the Port of Boston that he owns. The attraction between the two makes him question his choices. Does he have to go back to the year 896 to save his family or is she his rescue and stay in the year 2021?
Wonderful characters have been created. Both Channing and Ella show a lot of emotion, their fragility and their fears. Together they find what makes them stronger.
But Ella remains the cop out for justice and Channing is innocent. And when she tries to stop him from returning....?

I was SO not expecting to be so unsettled by one of Mariah Stone's Viking time travel romances! Violence and steamy romance for the leads, yes, but not a gut wrenching dread. This story, the first in a trilogy, really had me caught in its web with two leads on opposing sides desperate to protect their families while trapped in their seemingly doomed passion for each other in a 2021 Boston where havoc and strange forces have been let loose.
The apocalyptic, Armageddon elements in Channing and Bella's story related to the Nordic Ragnarock Twilight of the Gods myths just cut awfully close to home. Poverty, hate and desperation in a past time is much easier to deal with. When riots, extreme climate catastrophes, food shortages and hopelessness are staged in the present, and particularly the crazy reality we are experiencing in 2020-2021, it made the threat so immediate.
I don't usually read dystopian stories and only read one previous series (also with great world building) that mixed time travel and Ragnarock elements. While it's not my usual thing, I could not avoid getting swept up in the story!
This book ends in a whopper of a cliffhanger, a situation I normally avoid when I choose my reading material. But I am hooked so I will be looking for the continuation to see what the author has in store for these stars crossed lovers.

Eine wirklich überraschend gut aufgebaute Zeitreisegeschichte. Channing oder auch Ulf wandert durch die Zeit, wird im 21. Jahrhundert ein reicher Mann und des Drogenschmuggels beschuldigt. Ella als Polizistin ist ihm auf den Fersen aber auch viel mehr.
Dabei will er eigentlich nur zurück ins 9. Jahrhundert, zu seiner Familie ins Reich der Wikinger.
In dem Buch ist wirklich alles dabei. Information über Raknarök, Mafia, Drogen, Liebe und Spannung.
Mir hat der Auftakt wirklich sehr gut gefallen. Es war für mich das erste Buch von Mariah. Mich hat es vorrangig wirklich angesprochen, weil mir das Cover so gut gefallen hat, aber ich muss sagen, mich hat die Geschichte auch sehr überzeugt, und ich bin auch sehr neugierig auf die Fortsetzung, wobei das Ende für mich vorhersehbar war. Finde ich aber nicht störend, steigert den Spannungsaufbau und natürlich die Neugier. Channing fand ich sehr sympathisch, er hat sich in die heutige Zeit gut eingelebt und integriert, aber in seiner Brust schlägt noch immer ein Wikingerherz. Ella ist eine taffe Polizistin, die hin und hergerissen ist, zwischen Dienst nach Vorschrift und Gefühl. Ein facettenreicher Auftakt, macht richtig gute Laune auf die Fortsetzung.

Good writing and an interesting premise; time traveling and vikings! Cool ideas! I didn’t quite connect with the characters; Ella annoyed me a bit, but there is some spice between Ella and Channing. Channing’s mom is from the current time period and was pregnant with Channing when she time traveled back to viking times. Channing lived in the viking times until he was 18, but some craziness goes on and he ends up time traveling to the current time period. Channing has been trying to find a way back to the past; he’s been trying for years to build a time machine. Problems start arising for Channing when the cops start searching around Channing’s ports for possible drug trafficking. Ella happens to be one of the police detectives on the case. Channing and Ella feel a connection, but he plans to return to the past and she has a conflict of interest going on. More craziness ensues! Entertaining story! This story is part of a trilogy, so this book does have a cliffhanger. Looking forward to reading how these characters end up; they are dealing with quite a lot!

Me encanta este tema de los viajes del tiempo y me gustó mucho esta lectura y conocer la historia de Channing (Ulf) y Ella.

Me encanta este tema de los viajes del tiempo y me gustó mucho esta lectura y conocer la historia de Channing (Ulf) y Ella.
Channing un hombre multimillonario que esta atrapado en un tiempo que no es el suyo y hará lo que sea par volver con su familia por esa razón por todos estos años no ha mantenido relación con nadie hasta que conoce a la detective que lo quiere encarcelar.

This was an action filled and mesmerizing story. Channing was sent to 2021 to save his family. When he left they were fighting the king to give him time to get away. He has become a billionaire. He wants a time travel machine. So he can go home.
Ella O'Conner is a detective with the Boston P.D. Channing is under suspicion of being a drug dealer. So Ella must investigate. As she starts to investigate, strange things happen
in Boston.
The novel is well written but it has a cliffhanger ending. I hate these and the next book does not come out until July, 2022. It kept your attention and your interest. It was excellent.
Except for that very important fact about the ending.

I was not a huge fan of time travel romance, until I found Mariah Stone and she converted me! I now am hooked on most everything she writes. So I was so excited about this new Threads of Time trilogy and it has started very, very strong. Ulf (Channing) is sent forward to present time from the 900 AD to find a way to save his Viking family from King Harold. Ella is a Boston PD detective trying to break up a drug smuggling ring and suspects Channing is a part of it. This book is well paced, has a ton of action, drama, twists, turns, and crazy steam. I loved these two characters and am anxious to read the entire trilogy. You can read this book for FREE with your KU subscription. Enjoy this time travel read!!
